I've always used TWRP on my phones, for years...but recently I keep getting stuck at the custom samsung screen during a reboot. I've seen others with this problem and heard that it may have something to do with the way it wipes the phone during a full wipe. But what is the fix? I almost refuse to go to CWM. I'm just tired of having to unroot and reroot, just to get TWRP to work normally. Let me know if you've experienced the same and what can be done. Thanks.
Been a lot of issues that have been obvious and many others that have been suggested to be due to twrp.
I switched to cwm probably 2 months ago

I really didn't want to have to...such a bummer. I guess I'm holding out because surely TeamWin knows about it and is fixing it. At least I hope they do. I knew that I wasn't the only one, was just hoping someone would have a tip that would save me some headache and keep me from having to switch.
For me sometimes it takes quite a long time to start. It seeming hangs at the teamwin startup screen for many minutes. Eventually it loads though.

Maybe I haven't been patient enough, but it never seems to get past that screen. It's weird though because guys like DROIDMODDERX on youtube flashes a ton of ROMS on his phone with seemingly no issues. I ended up just switching to CWM, even though I can't stand it. I guess I'll switch back when and if TeamWin address the issue. I wanted to try OUDHS and the other one that I can't think of the name of, but I'm leery of recoveries that I've never tried.

There are downloads of TWRP version 2.5.0.2 floating around that do not have the freezing issue. I will look around to see if I can find it or if I have it.
edit: check out this post for download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45006486&postcount=289
Thanks for the reply. That's the version that was just before 2.6 right? If so, I was having the same issues with it as well. I read in another post somewhere that it had something to do with the format all function, the one where you have to type yes to erase everything. That being said, I emailed TeamWin and asked if a fix was in the works or if there was a recommendation that they could make about how to actually use the TWRP so that I wouldn't have problems. I never got a response. So maybe I'll try to go back to 2.5...this is just really weird for me because I never had issues with my Note 2, ever. The only time I ever Odin'd back to stock was to sell the phone. I could flash 10 ROMS a day and never get stuck. Could be that I'm just dumb or missing something and that I'm doing it all wrong, lol, we shall find out. Thanks again.
2.5.0.3 and 2.6 are buggy 2.5.0.2 is great. There is also a flashable 2.5.0.2 in the link on my Sig below.

Awesome! So Dubbsy have you had issues with the newer builds then too?
Also, just so I make sure that I remember how to do it correctly, I just flash the zip in recovery right? I have been spoiled with goomanager and rommanager.
Thanks.

Followed instructions completely after install going to boot screen it made my tab looked like it was fryed reloaded another rom just fine.? Not sure has anyone else had this problem would love to ask in actual thread but no permissions to. Wish xda would give newer people a little more credit with their questions, the development site here is awesome and so are the developers.
worked perfectly fine for me. A couple reboots later after my restoring apps and it's running like a champ.

Well, I've had my vibrant and my gs2 for a long time and have always flashed all kinds of roms on both. I'm no pro but I try to learn from the people here. But lately I can't figure out what's wrong with my vibrant. I tried resetting it with odin and flashing different, stable, well known roms on it but it still acts funny. It will work for a bit then start shutting off, not letting me turn it on and just shows the spinning star circle for a little bit. I have to plug it in and mess with it a little to get it to turn on or go in download mode. I've searched a lot, tried to find a solution but nothing so this is my last resort. I'd like to hear form people who had the same problem and what did you do please
I just managed to get it to turn on again but I don't know what to do before it goes off again. It is on ics passion v13.1. It's also unlocked. If this is some stupidly simple problem I'm sorry but I am seriously getting annoyed with the phone. Thanks for any help.
Well Passion is definitely dated, and not in a good way. If ICS is your choice flavor, by all means don't let me talk you out of it.....
However. I personally suggest you Odin back to stock, with repartition checked and flash up to Helly Bean. I haven't used CM10 yet (official build) so I can't comment personally on it, but you could try that. At least they are new and still very much supported.
GPS is broken, and 911 may not work, but those issues aside I've heard nothing but good things about them. I've been on Helly Bean since 8/12 and it's quite smooth.
Your issue might be kernel related. Keep us posted on what route you take, maybe we'll learn more about your problem and discover a solution.

Your battery could possibly be going bad. If it still acts funny on stock JFD then its probably your battery. I would flash back to stock 2.1 with Odin and see if the problem goes away, then flash back to ics if that's what you want. You could maybe try calibrating your battery too, not likely to be the problem but worth a shot.

Im no pro or even a novice at this, but to me it sounds like a pending hardware failure. This sounds alot like what happened to my Toshiba laptop.
Try installing a good kernal, try subzero first.
I think I'll try that before I give up. I'll let you know what happens. Thank you for the suggestions
OK, so I haven't posted much in this forum in general because I haven't had a need to really. I find what I need read and move on. But because of that I can't post in the developer section to ask this question before I flash this ROM so I will ask it here. So I'm going to take the plunge and flash Newts NOS m7 ROM. But after reading about 60% of a 949 page thread I do have some confusion. There were some updates and patches I'm going to call them for a lack of better term. I don't need to run any type of beast mode kernel. So what patches or fixes do I need to add in order for everything to work on this ROM? And I'm choosing this one over the alpha Sense 5 ROM based on data working with Verizon and not working with the alpha. At least nothing has been posted that it's working in all aspects now. I appreciate the help and hope that I can be rocking the NOS rom by tonight before I go to bed.
Really? No help out of 60 views?

If you install the full rom, you don't need any of the patches.
Well I have the full app plus a couple of the other downloads that are mentioned to have off the bat. But has the ROM download been updated with the patches that fix stuff? Thank you for your response by the way.

3.0.7 is the only thing you need to have as of today it contains everything, patches are minor small updates and newtoroot usually will tell you what patch you need when they are released.

So you are saying that the kernel patch, the call patch, and the other patch are all included in the 3.0.7 build and I shouldn't worry about them even though people are having issues with the ROM in certain areas such as what the patches fix? I'm asking for clarification because I can't afford to screw up my one and only phone. Besides Viper Rom this Nos 7 Rom seems to be the best out there for what I want until the update comes out. This is me being cautious and doing my research. I don't want to sound like a jerk. Just trying to have everything lined up right.

All you really need to worry about if it says full Rom or not. If it is a full Rom flash it after that there is nothing else to do.

Thanks for the help. I should just take the plunge but like I said before I'm just trying to do all the research that I need and to be as well read on it before I just jump into something. I'm not a first time rooter or flasher of ROM's. This one just has me timid because even the latest posts in the thread of the ROM is saying there are data issues. So I hope you can see where my concern is coming from. I'll flash it tomorrow and see what happens from there though.
OK, so I just took the plunge and did the flash. One problem I have right off the bat is that Gmail keeps closing and failing. I can't have that because all of my most important e-mails come in thru that. So is there a fix or do I just have to go back to stock?

You won't get any help if you don't tell us what you did..... I have never heard of ANY rom that gmail doesn't work.
and YELLING AT PEOPLE DOESN'T HELP EITHER.
Well, it wasn't meant to come out as yelling. And I didn't do anything but install the ROM just like everyone kept telling me to do. Oh and the weather on the lock screen is broke too. It always says no weather data available.
Well nothing like feeling even more of an ass. I never saw the replies I had already gotten from you guys. I guess my page wouldn't refresh. I'll wipe it and re flash it on I guess. I did all the stuff I needed to do before flashing it so I"m in the clear on that one. I'm not sure as to what all the extra apps that I've never seen before are but I'm ok with that for now. Oh, um isn't there suppose to be a swipe screen to wake feature on this ROM? I can't find it.
So G-mail is back to working now. I reflashed the ROM and did a cache and dalvik cache wipe. I also did the lock screen patch and volume to wake patch. I still don't have weather on the lock screen though. And the little click sounds that are turned on for me for when I unlock or lock the screen....yeah I can't hear them.
So, everything works now. Go figure....well minus those sounds that for some reason I actually really really liked having turned on before I flashed this. Maybe they will just start working again too.

So, in other words, all of your problems were self inflicted.
Do the flashing process properly next time and you won't have these issues.
Nope not self inflicted. I did the flash exactly the way I was suppose to. Not sure why flashing it a second time worked but it did. Now to figure out how my nanddroid back up got deleted.....or if it's just hidden and I don't know where it is. I use TWRP recovery by the way.
The past few days my phone has been rebooting constantly. Not a full reboot but like a hot-boot. It happens every single time I uninstall an app and more often than not when I install one. I have tried the phone in safe mode, as well as restoring back to mdk and the issue persists.
I am currently on HD15. No matter what I have done it still does this. I have also removed my sd card to see if that was it, and same thing happens. The battery isn't swollen and I really hope it isnt just hardware because I'd have to lose my mdk phone and that would suck. Any help or ideas is very appreciated. It's driving me insane.
Edit: The phone has also done it just when idling.

This has been mentioned a lot in the Hyperdrive thread. Apparently it's a pretty common problem with MDK phones. I think I read it has something to do with the kernel. You might want to check there.

Which kernel? I've tried 3 different ones.
I also odin'd back to stock mdk and still freaking have the same issues. Though I did the no-wipe tar. I wonder if a completely clean slate would fix it. I may try tomorrow after backing everything up completely and making another nand-backup. I have no idea what else to do other than replace the battery and see if thats the issue, or replacement phone and lose my mdk one.

Well that's good news! Hopefully that issue is no more. I've used this same Odin file a few times and it's rescued me every time. I usually always go with a full wipe.
Also I flash KToonsez Kernel with every ROM I flash, Touchwiz or Aosp and it's treated me good each time.
only mentioning that since it was said that maybe this was kernel related somehow although I'm not sure why after you flashed the no wipe Odin file it still happened. Sounds like your phone just needed a good cleaning. I'd start fresh with whatever ROM you choose to flash.

Hmm, yeah a clean flash would probably be best. But I will go ahead and restore user apps (and things like messages and accounts on my phone), I am fairly certain it had nothing to do with those.
Will report back with how that goes. But for now, a backup of the fresh MDK install, thanks for the help!
Right so I stayed on MDK for now, and restored pretty much everything. I think what may have broken things is trying to restore media storage (playlists) in titanium backup. after the clean mdk image I made a twrp backup and decided to only try the setting options that titanium backup does. Well one (or more I suppose) of those broke everything and the rebooting came back. I restored from the backup again and restored those settings one at a time, but left out some of the green colored backups in tibu, and all is well. I will however wait until HD16 before messing with another rom.

At least you know where the problem came from. I actually don't even bother saving and restoring with TiBu anymore because of issues that can sometimes pop up afterwards... I know for some though they really need to have their apps and data restored so just one of those things I guess

If you prefer stock, rather than AOSP, you could KDZ back to a completely factory clean state and do any updates you're prompted for at that point....otherwise get on over to an AOSP build - much better imho. Not perfect by any means, but much cleaner and such

i agree with ohlin, but would defiantly flash a stock img first, regardless, to clean things up first.
you dont know what the previous user may have done to the device. best to make it like new first.
btw, i really havent seen anyone mention this issue in any notable quantity.

There are more but here are two links to groups of people with this problem on the LG G3

I have not been able to find a stock image of 5.0.1. I suppose I could use an earlier KK image and then take the OTA. It may be easier to just pull the battery when it happens. It happens every couple of days. I've spent time getting this phone set up in the way that works best for me. I hate the thought of doing it all over again.

not to downplay your links, but the majority of the complaints are fairly old. a couple dozen occurrences out of the, conservatively, tens of thousands sold, is pretty minor.
its been my experience, and i dint notice it mentioned in those threads, many times most of these freak occurrences not confirmed bugs, can be fixed with a clean flash. i have seen it done countless times.
is it guaranteed to fix the issue? no, but its really the best, and only possible solution to your issue.
there are links to factory img's in various threads in the general forum, including the most recent build.
whats an hour or so to re-setup the phone, when there is a decent chance it could be fixed? i wouldnt use someone's phone without clean flashing it anyways, you never know what they might have had on there, and factory resetting doesnt make it like new.
You make a good point. Maybe not what I hoped to hear, but sensible
