Verizon upgrade question - HTC Rezound

This doesn't pertain to htc rezound specifically, but wasn't sure where else to ask this question...this is the only phone forum I visit on a regular basis. Currently, I have 4 lines on my account including the primary and pay $349 per month for service. Last June I upgraded my primary line through Amazon, but this month Verizon charged my account $310 for "adjusted device charge" and when I called them about it they said it was because I didn't return the signed paper contract they sent me so they charged the full price of the phone(Droid charge). This made no sense, but all of a sudden today they credited the $310 dollars to my account and even though I'm not eligible for upgrade till June of next year on the primary line...I'm still able to upgrade to any phone with discounted pricing now on that line. Is this a error in their system or is it something else ..like customer satisfaction deal...or something? I've been with them since...well forever ...first and only carrier. Hypothetically, If I upgrade using that line...what's the worst that could happen?.. I'm not going to because everyone is currently happy with their phones, but if I were to.thanks!

If it allows you to upgrade then that is their problem on their end. Once you have the phone in hand they can't ask you to send it back, especially since you would have paid for it and "signed" a new contract.

Same thing happened to me awhile back on a dumbphone for the wife. I took the auto draft off my account and sucked it up knowing I could use her upgrade at any time. I've been able to stagger our upgrades so I have one every year. I get a New phone and the wife gets my hand me downs. Until she cares, I'm set. Omni, Inc, TBolt, and now the Rezound. I didn't get too pissed so no credit but the extra $100 was worth it in the long run. I would have raised hell if it were a smartphone.

The weird part is I didn't make a big deal about it...I made NO DEAL..I called and simply asked about the charge and today I was credited. I hope that upgrade sticks on my account..getting one a year and half before you are eligible is quite handy

I would recommend that you use it soon as they have offline time that often audit accounts that have large credits applied to them to make sure everything is legit... If they notice this, they may change it but YMMV...

Buy the nexus and resell it

I was thinking of doing that but then reconsidered..especially since the rumor of Verizon getting the galaxy note..named galaxy journal or something. I'm happy with all the phones currently on the account!

Root & bootloader/custom ROM access?

I've been using custom ROMs on my Touch Pro (GSM) for quite a while. It's my understanding that GSM and CDMA phones have different crack/root methods. The international Galaxy S phones are all GSM right now until Verizon and Sprint release theirs, correct? Does this mean that the root process and the ROMs in the Galaxy S forum that are already there will not work on the CDMA Galaxy S phones that are launching shortly? (in other words, the CDMA version hasn't been rooted and the bootloader is uncracked still, right?)
Anyone following the current instructions for rooting a Galaxy S with the CDMA version about to come out could permanently brick their phone, I presume?
Only time will tell. Looked at the galaxy s root method and its simply a root kernel flashed. I don't know if it will have to be modded for the fascinates software and hardware change but I hope not. as far as the euro version the boot loader is open. Lets hope it stays that way. Or I'm off to HTC
As I understand it will have to be modded becuase kernels for CDMA & GSM are very different, but I think that Samsung is going to be releasing these phones with unlocked bootloaders, so they should be very easy to root, which is a really good thing because that touchwiz UI is just horrible.
Honestly I would rather have touchwiz and Bing than a locked down phone. You can always install adw or launcherpro and maps to replace Bing

Yeah. If there is still no release date announced for the Fascinate by Thursday evening, I am cancelling my Droid X pre-order at Best Buy. I'm only picking up a Droid X if I can use it and then change to the Fascinate when it comes out, assuming the date is less than 30 days from the X launch
I'm going to buy, and stick with, the Fascinate either way. Screw Motorola and their Apple-like "locking down" mantra.
i feel the same way wont buy another motorola phone even if it comes out with a 12mp camera prints money and has the omap4430. dont want my phones locked down

There is no way verizon is going to say the release date before the droid x comes out, because it would hurt sales for the Droid X. What I am going to do is purchase the droid x and use it. There is a very good chance they will tell the release date between now and 30 days from now. If the release date is within a reasonable time frame then I will return the droid x at the 30 day mark and hold out for the fascinate. If not, I will be sticking with the droid x. Yes you have to pay a $35 restocking fee, which in itself is absolutely ridiculous, but I would much rather have a phone that I am happy to have for 2 years than a phone that I would want to get rid of within the year.

Yep hopefully, it will make my decision a lot easier. The one only reason I would go with the Fascinate is because of it being unlocked. I love the hardware on the droid x, but I want to be able to run Ubuntu and other OS's off of it. I plan on using my phone like a laptop basically.

Is this guy serious!!! Does no one at all have a clue as to why they have a restocking fee? First off the exchange policy used to be 14 or 15 days or something like that. Now that its 30 a lot more people probably return phones and now that phones cost so much more than they used to it is likely Verizon did this just to put a slight reduction in the amount of returns.
Do you think they resale that phone you return? Do you think Motorola just gives them the money back for it? How about Definitely not for answer 1 and probably not for answer 2 I used to work for a company that sold pioneer elite products they had a no refund policy to us meaning even if it was defective. So what happens to a phone when you blatantly misuse the refund exchange system? Well I would guess that every single plastic/metal exterior part is replaces and it is used for a refurbished unit when someone thinks there perfectly fine phone is broken.
Soooo.... what is the end result? I pay more for my phone and my service because Verizon's cost is artificially raised by someone who just lacks either understanding or ethics. If you are one of these people which one are you? After reading this and you still do it you are the later.
Do not think that renting a phone is your right. What right do you have to ruining a $500 phone? Are you engadget are you writting a big review? Why don't you just save $35 save Verizon and its customers $500 and wait for the Samsung to come out.
I bought the X yesterday before finding out that it is super locked down when I receive it in the mail today I will choose one of 2 options. ... I will return it without activating it or I will use it until the samsung comes out then I will give it to my girlfriend since she doesn't care about rooting except that it makes everything on her phone pink (she will live without).
If you want the samsung get the samsung just wait for it. Also the correct game plan for Verizon would be to put the phone about 45 days outside the droid x launch. It would stager their sales and reduce the chance exchanges for the droid x. We will see what happens but who knows.

I would have considered returning the Droid X simply because something better is coming out and I decided I would rather have it than the Droid X. I thought that was the point. I can see your point though, if you know for a fact that you will want this other phone and are "renting" the DX that is pretty low.
At the same time, so what. Verizon ultimately has to remain competitive with the other carriers, and I have a hard time imagining that the very small percentage of the overall market who "rents" phones that have to be sold as refurbished are artificially increasing your price that much. I could be wrong.

Oh, also I am going to return the Droid X within 30 days and wait for the Fascinate. I was hoping to like the Droid X and didn't even consider the Fascinate, but I've had problems with the Droid X hardware and software so far and have buyer's remorse pretty bad right now.

You make some good points, and it irritates me when people return a product because it didn't overclock as much as they'd thought, or that they flashed an unofficial update that bricked it, or something else. But, with a phone, there's no way you're going to put that device through its paces to know if its right for you after playing with it for 10 minutes at the store. I don't think an All Sales are Final policy would be a good idea, personally. Can't speak for everyone, but if I knew I couldn't return a phone, I'd wait weeks before purchasing it for reviews and user experiences to proliferate.
You hit the nail on the head with staggered launches though. I'd rather see high end phones launch every 6 months or so so that I've always got something to look forward too when my contracts run short.

I'm so glad to see this. Way too many people return phone for phone knowing they will never keep phone #1. That is wrong - there is no other way of looking at it. Verizon will let you sit there and play all day on a phone to try it out - there is no necessary reason for someone to have to go home to try your possible new phone. If you make a purchase and come to realize that there is something you just can't live with... then you have a viable reason to make an exchange. If not... maybe try to live with a little honor and respect in your life?

I have an upgrade on April 3rd..how can i get it sooner?...I was wondering how I can persuade a Verizon rep into giving it to me now, (or when TB comes out) anyone ever accomplish this? or is there no way they would do that?

1) Good luck on the early upgrade. My NE2 is due in May. If it works for you, send him my way
2) If the TBolt release date keeps slipping you and I will both be able to use our upgrades

I did it when my OS went out on blackberry storm and when my HTC Incredible's display got sweat behind it. I was also having signal issues with the HTC. Now I have a Facinate (my third) with all kinds of issues and am hoping to get it swapped out too. The bottom line is... I don't think they will swap out phones without you having major documented issues with your current phone. I'm very lucky that I have a great Verizon store by me and understanding reps. Just my 2 cents. Heck, who knows!!? It doesn't hurt to ask! I Good luck!

Someone on here awhile back suggested getting your upgrade date moved forward under the guise of wanting to order an iPhone, then since it is changed in the system, get the Thunderbolt instead.

If you want to get the T-Bird before your upgrade date, you can buy it new by adding another line to your account -- $10. (The price of the T-Bird is the same whether you're upgrading or buying it new.) After you buy, go to Verizon store and switch the phone numbers so your current number is on the T-Bird. Once your upgrade date is passed, cancel the extra line. You'll pay $10 extra for a couple of months, but you'll have the new T-Bird.
This may sound shady, but it's perfectly legit if you think about it. And no, they won't move up your upgrade date.
I spoke to a rep on the phone yesterday and asked about the same thing (my upgrade is on 4/8). She told me that the most they can move your upgrade date is 30 days. So I suggest calling them on 3/3 and asking them about it.

Aren't they going to require a data package on the new line, and require keeping the data on the old line as well?
Each line with a smart phone needs a data plan.

I keep an old flip phone just to use as a third line phone..... but yes you need to have a data plan with every smartphone and I think you need a phone on every line.
Before Verizon changed their upgrade rules, you were able to upgrade after 13 months on a 2yr contract. If it was on a family plan, it had to be the main line. I was able to do this every since the BB Tour came out. I got an Eris 4 months later at the discounted price. I did this when the D2 came out as well. Now it took me calling back and forth until I got a cool rep and did it for me. Each rep had their reasons why they couldnt and why the others did it for me werent supposed to. To get the D2, took me 3 days of trying of about 3-8 calls a day. I upgrade on that time, 11 months early. When I called today, I was told, wont be happening anymore because of their new policy.
W/e you decide to do, you have a better chance of doing it over the phone as the rules are different for them than retail. I have to wait until July, so I feel your pain. =( But it will be the first time I have ever used my new every 2 cuz I have never waited this long before, lol.

This information was good to know, I have the upgrade on the same date (4/3) but I'm not going to bother pulling strings until an exact release date is announced. How exactly did you convince Verizon to move your upgrade date? I'm just curious which number I should call when it gets announced so I can try to negotiate with them.
I just went through the 611 on my phone and selected the upgrade option. When the rep answered, I straight up asked lol. The only catch is you have to call within the 30 days of your upgrade. You can't move your upgrade date until then.

[Q] Worth the upgrade from thunderbolt or wait?

I'm able to upgrade from my Thunderbolt to the Rezound for $99 (I can't seem to stomach the 2-yr contract even at that price!). I like my Thunderbolt but I have the itch to upgrade.... I can probably even sell my Thunderbolt on Ebay and make $100 lol. Anybody coming from a Thunderbolt wishing they stuck with the Thunderbolt and waited for a quad-core?
It's head and shoulders better than the Thunderbolt, but you may as well wait. With only two-year contracts these days it's worth the wait.
I've owned both, and I love my Rezound, but I got it as a replacement. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

How did you manage to get it as a replacement?! I am on my 3rd replacement for the thunderbolt and they absolutely refuse to give me anything else.

It was kind of a mess, and it took a week of ****ing up customer service, executive customer service, and some nasty emails. I don't recommend it.
Did you get your TBolt on a one-year contract? That's probably the problem. They told me they pretty much wouldn't give someone who was about to be off-contract a new phone. They eventually did, but it was awful.

Did you get your TBolt on a one-year contract? That's probably the problem. They told me they pretty much wouldn't give someone who was about to be off-contract a new phone. They eventually did, but it was awful.

Exactly the problem. I paid extra for a one-year contract so they told me the same thing: We can't change your phone if you are able to upgrade. I am more than happy to go through the process if it means me not having to be in a stupid 2 year contract lol
Here's the best question...what would you be waiting for? All of the announced HTC phones aren't for CDMA carriers. Who knows when the next crop of phones would be hitting and what they would be.

There will be an HTC One on Verizon soon enough. The MSM8960 SOC supports CDMA and LTE.

rumored HTC fireball is CDMA and modeled ADR6410 which would be a successor to the Thunderbolt. If it's quad-core and coming in the next 4-6 months it may be the way to go...

I was only able to because a CS agent ****ed up. Or, rather, did their job, and Verizon claimed they ****ed up, and so I appealed to a higher power.
A Verizon CS promised me a Rezound as a replacement, said it was in the mail, blah blah blah. I called a few hours later when I realized I wasn't sure if had included a battery and back in the package. The nice lady I talked to saw the order for the Rezound and no order for a battery and a backplate. So she ordered that and sent it to me.
Two days later I get two packages. One with the Rezound battery backplate and battery, and one with a Thunderbolt. One of those wtf moments. So I called in, asked what happened, and after hours on the phone they finally determined that the original CS agent was not authorized to give me a Rezound, and so the order had been cancelled, and they just sent me another Thunderbolt, all without telling me. All the while they gave me at least three or four different reasons, the first being that they had never ordered me a Rezound in the first place. So I asked the obvious question of, so why did I get a Rezound battery and backplate?
In the end they wouldn't budge. Only a Thunderbolt for me. No Rezound possible, despite them promising one to me.
I was kinda pissed, so I wrote executive CS an email detailing the situation. They called me, sorted the story out, and shipped me a Rezound.
I think the only reason I got a Rezound was because of their enormous series of ****ups. Without that they probably would have given me the same brush off they gave you. Well, they tried to give it to me. I'm not sure you'll have any luck--my situation was pretty particular.
Ironically I have a very similar issue. The customer service rep lied to me and said there is no other 4G HTC that is any better than mine so my option was to downgrade to a 3G HTC or take another Thunderbolt. I said "what about the rezound?". He told me the screen size was bigger on the Rezound so that is not possible. I responded by correcting him about the size. He said, "Ok fine, I will try to ship you the Rezound and you may have it by Tuesday but it will probably get denied. I will call you tomorrow if that happens". Sure enough, I was on the phone with his supervisor the next day because he never called me (shocker). They basically told me to pound sand in nice words. Eh whatever...

That's weird to me. Because if you're able to upgrade then your contract is coming close to being up and you would be free to go to another carrier. A long time ago on Sprint or Cingular my phone broke when my contract was over and they said they didn't want to give me one for free (I had no insurance or anything) but at the same time they were unable to diagnose what the problem was since it couldn't turn on. So I told them if you can't tell me what's wrong with it and you won't replace it I'll just go get a free phone from another carrier. Within 5 minutes they were giving me a phone. They offered me a particular one and I asked about a different one that was the same price and they let me have that. This was in flip phone days, still it was $100 price on phone.

I'm able to cancel in June... Verizon allows you to upgrade 4 months ahead of contract renewal.
It probably depends on your usage habits. My wife has a year left with the TB, but it's a great phone for her. The Rezound screen and camera are leaps and bounds better, but the battery life and overheating issues make me hesitant to say its a substantially better device.
If you are a power user who will really appreciate the screen and speed, upgrade. Otherwise wait for the next batch of phones that we're sure to see late summer or so. May as well stay on the cutting edge if you have the option!

Don't take this as a wiseass commnent or anything but...Doesn't the Rezound have GSM hardware? When (other than the iPhone) has a manufacturer retrofitted a phone to work on Verizon?
From my experience and other's, they will pretty much only bulge ONLY if you are still a year or so ahead from the contract being done. People where able to upgrade from a Droid Charge to other 4G devices, same with the Bionic. Im getting my wife her 3rd Droid Charge replacement, it keeps dropping 4G like there's no tomorrow whereas my Rezound is perfectly fine. One more complaint and they guranteed me a different 4G phone.
From reading a bunch of other similar posts like mine, I think I'm gonna make the jump. @ $99 for such a powerful device, I'd probably be crazy for passing it up when it very recently came out

I agree, I do have a feeling the Rezound will stay the best HTC phone on Verizon until the summer and even then still stay relevant.
Don't tell that to Verizon, they did a piss poor job of marketing the phone.

[Q] Any discounts available for a new customer?

I am thinking about coming to Verizon. I am on Sprint now with 2 lines with data on both. Because of a recent billing change I can get out of my contract until Saturday, March 10th. Sprint has went downhill in my area over the past year or so, but their prices are still good. I am looking to get a discount of some sort to help deal with the price difference. I will be getting 2 smartphones with data (likely used month to month at first until newer phones come out). I work for a small electrical contractor in a small town so I won't be eligible for a employee discount. Is there any tricks I can use to get a discount? Maybe somebody else's work email or something like that? If anybody knows anything please post or PM me with details/ link to thread/ anything. Thanks
I don't plan on signing a contract immediately because I would like to wait on HTC's next big phone. I have had the Evo3d since launch day and am a smartphone junky, so I don't think I could handle such similar phones for almost 3 consecutive years with no upgrade. I would like to go ahead and sign a contract now, use a used phone in the meantime and have an upgrade waiting on me when I get ready to use it, but the customer sales rep for Verizon said that wasnt possible. If anybody has any input, info, or advice please help me out. I have to swap carriers and get my 2 numbers ported before the end of the day Saturday, or I'm stuck with Sprint for another 14-16 months...That would be AWEFUL!

getting discounts here isnt as easy as it was on sprint. i came from sprint, all you needed was an email and you were set. here they want proof of employment or if they use email, they send confirmation to that email from what ive seen. not to your own email. but those are few companies that do that so its harder. lol

No.. What they do is waive the ETFs AFTER you've ported out in a case like this.
Trust me.. they more than pushed me out last month with their attitude about the whole thing.
Sprint did indeed go downhill and while it is cheaper and truly unlimited.. you AREN'T getting what you're paying for anymore. VZWs 3G speeds blow away sprints and let's not even talk about 4G because it's night and day too. Sprint isn't even going to expand their current 4G network (wimax) because of the soured relationship with Clear. Oh and by the way... my 4G works just as fast indoors as it does outdoors. After 9 years with sprint that contract change was the final straw.
Make sure you get in during the double data deal because i'm not sure i would be comfy with a 2GB monthly cap.

unfortunately not. The guy I talked to said I have to be off the network completely by March 10th or I am stuck for the remainder of my contact. I have read that a few were allowed to go month to month and many that had 30 days after they called, but the rep told me it is 30 days from the February billing cycle. I just found out about this today and called right after work. So I have basically 3 days to have my numbers ported over to Verizon or I am out of luck.
Anybody have an account with no discount for 2 lines, 700 minutes, unlimited text, and 2gb(4gb under promotion) on both? If so what does it end up being after all taxes, surcharges, etc? I pay $167.XX on Sprint right now, and really hope Verizon can keep it under $200.
What if you port to att or verizon off contract? Then just port the number back to sprint off contract.

Somehow I think that would be a nightmare-ish idea.. especially if the OP needs his line for work.
If you need to port that quick you'll also need to do an in-store purchase. I think $167 for the package you stated is probably close to doable. You'll also get much more friendly/helpful customer service with verizon. Playing devil's advocate you should also be aware that verizon's mobile to mobile only includes other VZW customers unlike sprints any mobile to mobile.

That sound very tempting to try, but just sounds risky. I know I have read somewhere that if you cancel your contract on Sprint and come back within 30 days that you basically are just on your same old contract again. I maybe wrong, or whoever said it may have been wrong, I don't remember where I read it. But if someone has experience doing something like this I would love to here about it. It would at least get me through until HTC releases a quad core, or s4 based phone.

If you like HTC phones like i do.. just compare the specs of the verizon phones to the sprint phones (htc->htc). You'll see that verizon has much better specs on the phones than sprint too.

The on network mobile to mobile is now problem, because 90% of the people around here have Verizon anyway. The package I put together online was about $173 (before taxes and surcharges) , but I think I had insurance for 2 rezounds for that price.

I have to disagree. My Evo3d is very similar to my coworker's rezound . It has basically the same processor only .3ghz slower, same amount or RAM, same screen size, QHD screen vs 720p (the difference is honestly not noticeable when held side by side) and it came out about 4 months before. Don't get me wrong I really like the Rezound, but I feel it hardly has much better specs, slightly better specs at most.
That's what originally drew me to Sprint, they get the hottest phones first, and low monthly costs. But their service has let me down recently.

Well if it's close.. I would say to you exactly what I told my wife when I dropped Sprint. Sprint has done NOTHING to keep my account. They have not done anything with their local infrastructure. They never respond to trouble tickets. Their status quo really sucked bad.
Verizon on the other hand, has done extensive network upgrades and is very responsive to any problem you have.

A Month Battle with AT&T and I WON!

RECENT EDIT TO EXPLAIN SITUATION:

I've been royally screwed by AT&T so many times, them overcharging me, accidentally adding services and removing services to my account, charging me for a replacement sim when my calls would drop and would still charge me every single time to swap out a sim. When I had mobile insurance added to my account, I lost a phone, paid the deductible and they STILL would send my "reconditioned" phones that have flaws, scratches, issues. Took multiple devices before I got a half decent working one. Assurion is a POS company, honestly. Those who are PMSing over my post, seriously? You've never in your entire life lied, or done something for your personal gain? Against an organization or group that gains and benefits more from you? I really hope that all of you who're preaching ethics to me, really do live a righteous, sin-free life on a regular basis.
When I traded the S4 for the HTC One I did not know it had issues or broken. If I had a perfect working phone why would I want to go through this hassle?
Also...I pay for mobile insurance, if I wanted to take them on a ride and screw them over I could have claimed my device lost or broken and asked for a replace for the deductible of $199. MANY colleagues and people I know have done this. I didnt go that route.
1. In the past when I traded phones on craigslist, friends, family, etc. ATT would give me a tough time about it, Idk if this happened to anyone else or just my bad luck. They would ask me 100s of questions about what, why, how etc. I did not feel like dealing with that. I didnt like the S4 and hated touchwiz.
2. I didnt steal from them or not pay for anything. One of their reps told me to keep the other refurbished model as a spare, I didnt suggest it or as for it. They messed up, so I guess they felt like making up for it.
3. Yes HTC would take 14 days to send me back my device I send to them, all the while I would be phoneless. Dealing with AT&T was the best way to ensure I'd atleast be able to make and take calls in the mean time while this situation got worked out.
4. The original iPhone 5 I paid for I bought without an upgrade and paid full price of $500+, so I'm pretty sure they made so much money off me lol.
5. The new tax of 60 something cents to each customers phone bill will more than pay for a measly half broken HTC One
6. I've been grandfathered into their Unlimited Data plan and when I used to go above 2 gb or 3gb they would restrict my speeds and Bottleneck me every single time
7. To the idiot that said mentality like this gets us into recession? Lol really? I pay for the service with money I work for and want a working device.
8. The reason I had to raise my voice and yell at the reps was because they refused to let me return the defective device and wanted me to just live with it or try a different phone instead. They refused to admit that AT&T and Assurion's quality control with their "refurbished"/"reconditioned"/"like new" devices have flaws and aren't tested out properly before shipping out to customers.

So I originally had an iPhone 5 when I decided I wanted to try something new. I fell in love with the HTC One after reading about it and playing with the store model, so sold my 5 for $500 unlocked and went to AT&T store and used my mom's upgrade and got the 32 GB One. But for some reason that did not satisfy me initially then I returned it and went to the Galaxy S4 and decided I was gonna stick with it, till the same old TouchWiz ruined the experience for me over time. Decided I wanted to go back to the HTC One because I missed the front facing speakers and blinkfeed SO MUCH. Plus Sense 5 felt a lot smoother and quicker. I was past my 14 days so traded this kid on craigslist for a 64 GB HTC One Silver. After going home I noticed dead pixels and screen discolorations on the One, I talked to AT&T and *****ed at them that the phone has issues, and dead pixels. They were skeptical as to how I went from the S4 to One again and I just told them I traded with my uncle or something. So they said they would send me a replacement warranty exchange right away.
So here it goes...
Device 1 they sent me had scratches all over the unit, non centered camera lens in the back and the vibrate rattled. So I called complained and then they sent me another one.
Device 2 had 4 dead pixels and 2 HUGE gaps. Called and yelled at them again and they said they would send me another device.
Device 3 would not charge past 85% and hold it for more than an hour. Called them and yelled at them and demanded that they fix my issue and send me a brand new device. All the while the lady that I was talking to accidentally put a request for a warranty exchange to be shipped out and she got a manager override and shipped out a brand new device to me.
Device 4 (New) & Device 5: The new unit had no vibration AT ALL, tried everything and every setting NOTHING. Device 5 was the used refurbished and was actually closer to perfect than the New in Box and Sealed device they sent me. I called and made a big fuss about the new one yet again and they said nothing could be done and I had to return both the devices and we could go from there and another new device being sent to me is out of the question. I argued some more and yelled some more before they said send back Device 4 and the manager told me to keep the Device 5 refurbished unit for now.
Device 6: I had to wait a week till they received Device 4/"New" unit before I called them and spent an hour on the phone arguing with them. So turns out they sent me out another brand new device and they're letting me keep the Device 5 refurbished unit thats working well. I asked what to do with the extra phone and their manager said "use it as an extra MP3 Player or camera..."
LOL so I'm giving one of the phones to my dad and keeping the other. Took a month but I got the better end of the deal no?

Not to be that guy, but you traded your brand new Galaxy S 4 on with someone on Craigslist, *****ed at AT&T for the Craigslist phone being messed up, and then lied to them on how you received it?
I could see how karma worked itself in your experience with AT&T.
True that...you made the trade for the scratched up One. How is that AT&T's fault? I find this whole thing to be pretty unethical.

Getting the extra phone is great, but you should have called HTC. They'll repair any HTC device as long as it's still in the 1 years warranty period.

no dude that guy got the phone from ATT warranty exchange, he didnt even use it, when he gave it to me cosmetically it checked out ... i noticed the dead pixels after i got home... MOST of ATT's warranty exxhange refurbs have dead pixels and other issues ... and ATT deserves anything bad that could happen to them with the amount they overcharge their customers and the new little maintenance charge they added to each and every customers bill? ive been grandfathered into their Unlimited Data plan and when I used to go above 2 gb or 3gb they would restrict my speeds and Bottleneck me every single time ... F**K ATT lol

I did call HTC, and they said it would take over 14 business days before I would see my phone again .. i didnt wanna wait that long

no dude that guy got the phone from ATT warranty exchange, he didnt even use it, when he gave it to me cosmetically it checked out ... i noticed the dead pixels after i got home... MOST of ATT's warranty exchange refurbs have dead pixels and other issues ... and ATT deserves anything bad that could happen to them with the amount they overcharge their customers and the new little maintenance charge they added to each and every customers bill? ive been grandfathered into their Unlimited Data plan and when I used to go above 2 gb or 3gb they would restrict my speeds and Bottleneck me every single time and sometimes i wouldnt even get HSPA+ speeds let alone LTE speeds ... F**K ATT lol... im one for morality and ethics, but not when ive gotten screwed over by someone or an organization ..
You seem not to understand that the Corporation NEVER, gets screwed. When AT&T does its audit at the end of the year they will just determine that they have to make people pay more.... Like by not honoring 18 month upgrade cycles any longer, next they will add another hundred bucks to premium devices on contract like Verizon. This stuff only screws us in the end.... You should have taken this up with HTC.

I agree with this. It's people with a mentally like the OP is what got us into the recession. Getting stuff and not being responsible for their decisions or actions and getting bailed out somehow.
I've had att warranty cover phones I've bought on Craigslist. Don't see a problem. I don't yell at anyone when I call though. More flies with honey ya know?

Yeah, that's a pretty accurate estimation. I'm on prepaid and I've never purchased a phone from the carrier, so I've never really been able to complain to them.

That's different. Warranty states it covers any phone you are using.

Wow... Did you seriously just post a topic on how you cheated at&t to brag about it? I don't like at&t at all but to do this is just wrong. Not only is it unethical it's just plain stupid. Like someone mentioned you did not win in the end. AT&T will rape your ass for the next 2 years.
Personally why do we give a F about a billion dollar company like AT&T?
I personally screw them by getting the HTC One on a subside price and then porting out without getting ETF. Now that's a whole different story.

I find this whole thing odd. I bought an HTC One locally, it was only 3 days out from the purchase date. The camera wouldn't focus at all. I took it to a retail store, they wanted a receipt from where it was purchased, no go. I went to the service center, they said they can exchange it when the 14 days are up. I called up 611, said I bought it locally from a 3rd party, and that the camera was broken. They checked the notes from the service center who verified the problem. They sent me out a new device, not a refurb, without any hassle, even gave me priority shipping for free.
AT&T is getting another $75 over the course of my 5 two year contracts with that new admin fee. They have also pushed upgrades from 18mo to 24mo in the last couple years, which means I pay way more than buying the phone outright. I have no problem with what the OP did, if you are getting fu**ed in the ass, at least fight it, don't sit there and take it and buy into the fear of more fees, they are coming regardless.

He didn't cheat them. The phone has a warranty on it for the first year. Doesn't matter if you are the original purchaser or you bought it used. Lay off the op.
