Hello a simple question please.
I want only root to delete the att apps, so Its necessary unlock the bootloader or not?
I don't want to install another room, only have root to delete system apps, so, I need to unlock bootloader and next get root or I can get root with the bootloader locked.
thank's in advance.
You just need root. It's also recommended to just "freeze" the apps instead of deleting them. Here's a good root tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548
To freeze apps you can either pick up an app that does it for you like Titanium Backup but more than likely you'll need a paid app. Or you can just get a file manager that can get root access and find the apps you want to freeze/hide and just add a ".bak" (with the dot) at the end of it.

Yes you can root without unlocking the bootloader.
thank's but using titanium backup is risk free?
thanks!!! for the answer, I was worried if I need to unlock the bootloader first.
so I'm going to use the tool sugested for root, and buy the app titanium backup to freeze.
really apreciated!!!
another question, it's possible that if I freeze a important app (for mistake) and my phone can't turn on???, after restart my phone? or is a risk free using titanium backup??
rom
just be careful what kind of rom you put on i have put the wrong rom on my atris and the ram dropped from 1gb to 370 mb so make sour you put the right one
Well, if you freeze your launcher, you may not be able to launch any app... If you freeze an important system app, you may experience loop force stops which make you unable to do anything.
Always use caution when you are accessing system files on your phone.
Here is a pretty good list of apps that are safe to freeze, it's a little old but it will give you an idea:

hello
i am on unlocked at&t atrix. (4.1.83 froyo)
i don't want to loose my applications.
should i unlock the boot loader first or root?
can i make a back up of my apps before rooting?
root first then use titanium backup to backup your apps.
rooting won't cause you to lose any apps or data however unlocking will.
i found this way for rooting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046626 and it said WARNING: THIS WILL DELETE YOUR INTERAL SD-CARD, BACKUP FIRST!!!

You have to root first so you can back up your stuff with Titanium Backup
Yes, gingerbreak will delete your internal and external sd card, but that's not Apps. You can just copy all the stuff in yuor internal and external SD card to your computer and then root.
then you install titanium, back up all your apps. Install mybackup root to back up your texts if you want to keep them.
Then you can unlock.
Personally I had no issues as far as losing apps or data when rooting or unlocking, but I would suggest rooting first and using cwm recovery to make a backup then unlock the bootloader.
Also if you're concerned about losing data on your internal sd, just take it out of the phone. Use the root and unlock instructions on briefmobile.com

Backup your apps with Titanium Backup.
Use Mybackup Root to backup - Sms/MMS/Bookmarks/settings
Backup the contents of your internal SD to external SD.
And you should be safe
Once you unlock the BL and install CWM, you can backup your entire rom with CWM backup feature. Do that before starting modding.
Hi!
I've been wanting to root my Canvas HD for the past month but did get success with sp tool..So I'm gonna try the Motochopper method which has reportedly high success rate... but because that tut was not very detailed, I have some doubts.
•I wanna know if I follow this method will I lose any data, app data, game progress, contacts etc etc.? And if there is a chance of that is there a way to backup these things? Apps like titanium and nandroid require root access which I don't have.
• When trying out the sp tool method some people reported that they lost their IMEI no. after rooting which is clearly a very serious issue and I don't wanna end up like that so does this method poses the same threat? if it does, is there a way so that I can take a backup of my IMEI no.??
•Do I need to take out my memory card/ battery?
Note: I am a noob in android rooting and stuff so please don't be harsh. I am currently in middle of the process
Thank you any help is much appreciated :fingers-crossed:

You won't lose any data or IMEI and there is no need to take the battery out. it's not like flashing an entirely new firmware. i assure you it's very very safe.

Hi Vemajai,
Removing Boaltware is a kind of hit and miss.
The way i do is
1) Open ES file explorer
2) Click on Root Explorer
3) Mount Write Permissions
4) go to /system/app
5) Cut the Apps that I dont need and paste them into any folder on external card.
6) Go to CWM recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and fix permissions.
Choosing the apps to remove/delete is important, you can search internet to which apps are safe to remove, but it will be device specific.
There are few scripts available on the xda that do this job automatically, but we dont have one for our A116 (correct me if i am wrong).
If you remove a wrong apk accidentally, you can end up with FC's(Force Closes) and few functions or apps may not work.
So its better to have a Nandriod Backup (can be taken using Recovery like CWM or TWRP) so that if some thing goes wrong we can go back to working state.
-- I am not responsible if some thing goes wrong with your device, do the above at your own risk.
Hi all...
I wish to root my android device., I know that rooting itself is not a deadly procedure(i had not not done it before myself).
since my device is brand new, I'm not planning to flash a custom rom.
I would like to ask some questions:
does the supersu app notify me regarding an application's intended to run as root?
The main reason for rooting is to free up some space by deleting apks from /system/app.
what happens if delete these apks from there? is this a backup ?
expecting valuable replies...

I came across this same dilemma a while ago with my SGS3. You can backup everything and I mean everything on your phone once it is rooted with Titanium Backup or any other app that has similar capabilities. It yields a fairly large file but you can have every stock item restored if you make a Nandroid backup. (which I strongly recommend in case something goes wrong).
You can find all the how-to´s in this forum with detailed videos and instructions. Just search for your phone and follow the threads that interest you.
By doing this, most carriers will void your warranty so be careful not to brick your phone. (There are some ways around this but there´s some reading involved if you´re interested)
supersu
does the supersu app notifies about any of the installed applications desire to run as root?

Yes, the super su app does prompt for root access each and every time an app needs it. you can edit this option in the su app to either 'prompt always', 'deny always' and 'grant always'. Well, the sad news is, there isn't exactly a backup for all this. But, as long as it isn't something like the browser and such main apps, you can delete all the bloatware.
Before you ROOT the phone, be sure to backup.
I know there's plently of ways when rooted. The irony is, im trying to root but need to keep data! Im on gingerbread ofc and i cant find a way. Either that or root without losing data?

Perhaps you could try Helium (formerly Carbon), I did not try this but as it is developped by the talented ClockworkMod, I would be confident using it.

i use it on my phone. However it requires ICS+ and root, both of which i dont have!
Unless you're trying to backup system or app data worth more than a hundred bucks, simply rooting your device should be safe enough. I'm sure you know this, but documents, pictures, downloaded files and the like can all be easily copied to a pc without rooting or adding any additional software.
Here's the rooting/rom changing process for the ultra-paranoid:
1. Backup personal data (documents, pictures, screenshots, etc.) to a pc.
2. Root the device
3. Install root backup software and backup important app and system data
4. copy backups to a pc, also.
5. Install CWM or whatever recovery mode your preferred kernel has.
6. boot into recovery mode and create a system backup (and copy that backup to a PC, as always)
7. follow steps for installing whatever rom you want to use.
Hi,
This is my first time writing here so excuse any of my mistakes.
Its been one year that I own the galaxy s3 and it seems to me very slow, with too many lags. And becomes even slower any time I join wifi and even worse when I finish surfing at facebook.
I always have 700mb RAM out of 830mb. I tried everything, reduce animation, disable ripple effect, clear cache etc. Nothing !!!
Im afraid rooting, mainly because I don’t want to start all over againg setting up wifi passwords, apps etc.
I would like your advice, either for improvement without root, or for the best way to root, cyanogenmod etc.
Thanx

Rooting can speed up your phone alot, it did for me. You won't have to put in passwords and whatnot if you just root and modify the stock rom. If you say install cyanogenmod, then that's installing a new operating system so you wont have all your settings saved, apps and data can be backed up by using titanium backup though.
Best and easiest way to root would be CF-Auto root http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/gt-i930x-t-n-cf-auto-root-t1957273 Just follow the instructions on that.

The reason you root your device is to gain access to the root directory of your device. You won't lose apps or data, only if you flash a custom rom (unless you make a backup).

Follow Instructions & do carefully. Rooting is justa one time process.
Later on you can flash new roms any times.

Rooting is just granting access to the root directory on your device, this wont speed your phone up at all. Depends, if you want to overclock it with a custom kernel then you can speed it up, otherwise because you have just granted root access you would probably still have all the bloatware on it, removing this can speed up your phone aswell, because this will give you more ram.
Then there always another way, which is to flash a custom rom, they dont usually have any bloat, if any at all, so they can be faster

Not to worry though,if you read everything before you flash a custom rom and follow the developers instructions, you should be fine. But never forget a backup of your apps and data or youll just have to download them all again. Also making nandroid backups is recommended if anything goes wrong at any point, I said that assuming you would have custom recovery
Thanks
