Hi!
I've been wanting to root my Canvas HD for the past month but did get success with sp tool..So I'm gonna try the Motochopper method which has reportedly high success rate... but because that tut was not very detailed, I have some doubts.
•I wanna know if I follow this method will I lose any data, app data, game progress, contacts etc etc.? And if there is a chance of that is there a way to backup these things? Apps like titanium and nandroid require root access which I don't have.
• When trying out the sp tool method some people reported that they lost their IMEI no. after rooting which is clearly a very serious issue and I don't wanna end up like that so does this method poses the same threat? if it does, is there a way so that I can take a backup of my IMEI no.??
•Do I need to take out my memory card/ battery?
Note: I am a noob in android rooting and stuff so please don't be harsh. I am currently in middle of the process
Thank you any help is much appreciated :fingers-crossed:

You won't lose any data or IMEI and there is no need to take the battery out. it's not like flashing an entirely new firmware. i assure you it's very very safe.

hitting thnaks would not take much time...please hit thanks if i helped !!!!!!! posting something on xda is very difficult !!

Hi Vemajai,
Removing Boaltware is a kind of hit and miss.
The way i do is
1) Open ES file explorer
2) Click on Root Explorer
3) Mount Write Permissions
4) go to /system/app
5) Cut the Apps that I dont need and paste them into any folder on external card.
6) Go to CWM recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and fix permissions.
Choosing the apps to remove/delete is important, you can search internet to which apps are safe to remove, but it will be device specific.
There are few scripts available on the xda that do this job automatically, but we dont have one for our A116 (correct me if i am wrong).
If you remove a wrong apk accidentally, you can end up with FC's(Force Closes) and few functions or apps may not work.
So its better to have a Nandriod Backup (can be taken using Recovery like CWM or TWRP) so that if some thing goes wrong we can go back to working state.
-- I am not responsible if some thing goes wrong with your device, do the above at your own risk.

Hello a simple question please.
I want only root to delete the att apps, so Its necessary unlock the bootloader or not?
I don't want to install another room, only have root to delete system apps, so, I need to unlock bootloader and next get root or I can get root with the bootloader locked.
thank's in advance.
You just need root. It's also recommended to just "freeze" the apps instead of deleting them. Here's a good root tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548
To freeze apps you can either pick up an app that does it for you like Titanium Backup but more than likely you'll need a paid app. Or you can just get a file manager that can get root access and find the apps you want to freeze/hide and just add a ".bak" (with the dot) at the end of it.

Yes you can root without unlocking the bootloader.
thank's but using titanium backup is risk free?
thanks!!! for the answer, I was worried if I need to unlock the bootloader first.
so I'm going to use the tool sugested for root, and buy the app titanium backup to freeze.
really apreciated!!!
another question, it's possible that if I freeze a important app (for mistake) and my phone can't turn on???, after restart my phone? or is a risk free using titanium backup??
rom
just be careful what kind of rom you put on i have put the wrong rom on my atris and the ram dropped from 1gb to 370 mb so make sour you put the right one
Well, if you freeze your launcher, you may not be able to launch any app... If you freeze an important system app, you may experience loop force stops which make you unable to do anything.
Always use caution when you are accessing system files on your phone.
Here is a pretty good list of apps that are safe to freeze, it's a little old but it will give you an idea:

Hello
i need some help... i live in israel..
i just bought samsung galaxy s2 and i want to root it...the problem is i just cant find the right kernel.. my phone kernel is JHKJ1
i have searched for like an 2 hours without success..so if someone could help me i will be grateful.
I think you should flash it with the stock rom (first step) which has rooted kernel (second step). use odin. don't use ICS rom.
Root with this,its a KJ1 CF-Root kernel

but may i just ask..what does the superuser do?
does it gives me some special things?..coz i have now on my phone CMW and superuser but when i log in to the superuser it gives me only apps --> CMW..
and thats all... does it right?
CWM is the recovery on your phone, used for flashing ROMs, clearing cache and various other advanced features.
Superuser is used to allow or deny a given app ROOT access, and also to keep a log of when those privelages have been granted.

Yeah mate all explained. One of the things that you need to know about the CWM app is that it has the function to make a nandroid backup. This is a backup of your complete firmware as it is now on your phone, contacts, kernel, apps, everything. What this does is makes a backup for you to use if something ever went wrong while doing a flash then all you need to do is enter into revcovery mode and restore the backup and your will be exactly as it is right now.I suggest you do one to have a backup handy.Never know when you might need one.You can delete and create new ones as you go.
1.Open CWM app (give it permissions of course)
2.Select "Backup"
3..Select "Accept"
4..Select,if asked, "int.SD" (this is your internalSD.Sometimes externalSD backups dont register when you need them)
Now it will do a backup and you can reopen the CWM app and see it by selecting Delete or Restore. As you go collecting more apps and so on you can delete and create new ones.If for some reason your phone blows out you can restore the latest backup made by entering in CWM app or if you have done something really bad then by holding Volume up+Home+Power to enter into recovery mode.A good app to download now is Titanium backup. It also backs up all apps and data so if you ever flash a ROM you can pass the apps+data to the new ROM.
Before installing Titanium install busybox.Dont forget to give these apps root permission.Install from market, open and install only busybox. The Apps no.

Titanium is good because you can uninstall system app from your carrier that you dont want that annoy you

hi
I have a problem with internal memory, as usual with many
so i tried link2sd , and i figured out i must be rooted to mount 2nd ext2 partition using SU
by the way i have sony xperia c for only 2 weeks, this is my 1st android phone i have so i know just a little
so i guessed, i need the su only to mount 2nd partition,
so i wonder is there a way doing this other than rooting?? as i knew it voids warranty
for example using adb shell commands or executing a script doing this ??
as a last resort, i may consider rooting, and that leads me to more questions
is there a way to unroot after rooting, so the warranty is still there?? i knew about rooting apps like root master and another SU apps,
that enables fully unrooting, so maybe could i do it, after mounting 2nd partition n after link2sd recognizes it??
how bad is rooting n loosing warranty?? is there problems with xperia c that needs badly warranty??
thanks in advance

Definitely not a way to do it without root. Also, you would have to stay rooted to make Links2SD function after rebooting. Scripts and adb commands won't help with out superuser permission as you can't make changes to /system like that without root. Most Xperias can easily be returned to stock / non rooted with the Flash Tool and the correct firmware for your build version - assuming you have access to a PC. I recommend downloading the firmware, drivers, and Flash Tool and watching a video or 2 on YouTube or check out one of the many guides here on XDA about using it to return to stock. Once you are comfortable with that, you can fix almost any software thing you might need making rooting not so scary.

here is another method moving apps to sd using adb commands, how efficient is it??
instructables.com/id/How-to-install-apps-onto-your-SD-Card-No-Root/?ALLSTEPS
in this case, do i format the whole sd card as fat32??
i knew link2sd needs the 2nd partition to be EXT2->4 format to move data files, not only apks, so how it comes this method to work using fat32??
also here is another 2 techniques to unroot using es explorer to delete some files in /system, n another method, how reliable is it??
androidtipsz.com/two-simple-methods-to-unroot-any-rooted-android-device
but anyway it doesn't make sense to me to unroot to get back warranty, in other words, suppose a permanent
damage to screen, or whatever happened making it impossible to unroot, then how it comes i could do it??
maybe if i were lucky to get it back
anyway i'm hopeful i won't need warranty, n perhaps i won't need it...it seems to me to unroot is to 95% lose warranty, n maybe i'm lucky 5% to get it back

Not very. It only moves part of the apk and not the app data. Plus some apps just don't work well there such as 3rd party launchers and keyboards. FAT32 is fine for this method because it doesn't move the data.
As far as returning it to normal - it depends on if you have a custom recovery and root or just root only. If you have a custom recovery, you have to get that back to stock as well as do the unroot. Unrooting - which you can just do from inside the root app, but the best way is to just use the factory firmware and the flashtool because it will restore everything - including the recovery. This method will return the phone to stock whether or not the screen is broken as screen input isn't necessary.

first of all, i really appreciate your guidance, as i was really confused between huge stuff on google...thanks for your help...
so, that adb commands method isn't far different from stock android app2sd..right??
anyway, to take the decision, should i go for rooting?? and what is the best method??
i found apps, that needs no pc or usb, like root master, framaroot, maestro and poot, and usb debugging method like vroot,
one click root, and dozens of other names...all i know is just names..as i told you i'm just a beginner
so what method should i go into??
but first and all, should i go for rooting, i feel i'm still hesitated
as i mentioned, that's my 1st ever android phone for only 2 weeks and i don't wanna take a decision like this in a hurry
so, if the worst scenario happened like software breakdown, would it be to download stock firmware??
and if a hardware damage like a crash or screen damage or whatever, is it guaranteed to download firmware to
unroot it n to get it back to waranty??..i feel i'm still a little confused
thanks again for your help

Has most of the info you need there.
I'm all about root. But I might be a bit biased being a huge fan of making my phone better and I root/upgrade/customize phones for a living, but there's no way I would put up with the limitations of a non rooted system. But like I said, if you are hestitant, then download the original firmware, read the guides, and watch some videos on how to return an Xperia device back to stock and the problems that might arise from rooting won't be that big of a deal since it takes about 10 minutes to restore the phone if you have everything set up (firmware downloaded and drivers and flash tool installed).
Because I am new I post here. I want to ask you.
I have Sony Xperia GO so I want to root my phone before it I want to ask you about it.
I read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472

Thank you
Unrooting the phone is not necessary. Still you can remove root access from your phone.
first simple way is to flash Stock ROM using flashtool, it will clean install your ROM like PC companion. Phone will be normal again.
second, you can temporarily remove root access from the SuperSU app (that manages root access for you). go to settings, you will find an option there.
for more information read this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/issues/getting-startedrooting-bootloader-t2100529
you are new here, so you should know, no need to reply with "thanks" if any one helps you, there is a thanks button. use it.
and welcome to xda.

is need sd memory card for routing?only routing
and how can I backup my rom (oficial android rom)?
SD card is not affected in rooting.
And you cannot take backup of your complete rom without rootin your phone.
You can only backup apps without rooting.
Everything is given in the guide...

Hi,
This is my first time writing here so excuse any of my mistakes.
Its been one year that I own the galaxy s3 and it seems to me very slow, with too many lags. And becomes even slower any time I join wifi and even worse when I finish surfing at facebook.
I always have 700mb RAM out of 830mb. I tried everything, reduce animation, disable ripple effect, clear cache etc. Nothing !!!
Im afraid rooting, mainly because I don’t want to start all over againg setting up wifi passwords, apps etc.
I would like your advice, either for improvement without root, or for the best way to root, cyanogenmod etc.
Thanx

Rooting can speed up your phone alot, it did for me. You won't have to put in passwords and whatnot if you just root and modify the stock rom. If you say install cyanogenmod, then that's installing a new operating system so you wont have all your settings saved, apps and data can be backed up by using titanium backup though.
Best and easiest way to root would be CF-Auto root http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/gt-i930x-t-n-cf-auto-root-t1957273 Just follow the instructions on that.

The reason you root your device is to gain access to the root directory of your device. You won't lose apps or data, only if you flash a custom rom (unless you make a backup).

Follow Instructions & do carefully. Rooting is justa one time process.

Rooting is just granting access to the root directory on your device, this wont speed your phone up at all. Depends, if you want to overclock it with a custom kernel then you can speed it up, otherwise because you have just granted root access you would probably still have all the bloatware on it, removing this can speed up your phone aswell, because this will give you more ram.
Then there always another way, which is to flash a custom rom, they dont usually have any bloat, if any at all, so they can be faster

Only apps and their data, nothing else. Make sure you understand what you are doing, as you seem to be missing a lot of basic knowledge.

Not to worry though,if you read everything before you flash a custom rom and follow the developers instructions, you should be fine. But never forget a backup of your apps and data or youll just have to download them all again. Also making nandroid backups is recommended if anything goes wrong at any point, I said that assuming you would have custom recovery
Thanks

Rooting can speed up your phone alot, it did for me. You won't have to put in passwords and whatnot if you just root and modify the stock rom. If you say install cyanogenmod, then that's installing a new operating system so you wont have all your settings saved, apps and data can be backed up by using titanium backup though.
Best and easiest way to root would be CF-Auto root http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/gt-i930x-t-n-cf-auto-root-t1957273 Just follow the instructions on that.
