My prime has some minor problems (something Loos inside and one corner of the screen is like unstuck or something) so I'm gonna return it to best bug soon. But I'm wondering how long I need to wait to get the second generation of primes to get in stick at places like amazon.

there is no second generation prime. if you exchange now, chances are good to get one with issues fixed found in some units. As far as GPS goes, depending on when u get the prime, its likely to be taken out of the Prime or drivers for it disabled. Since Asus knows of the issues now, most new units should be corrected now. wait at least a week or 2 if you can. the longer you hold off, more than likely get a newer unit with problems fixed.
Actually reading your post again, if its just a screen issue, you could just exchange it now and new unit should be fine. I have one of first ones when it came out and have no screen issues.
Thanks I think I'm gonna go to best buy this weekend to return it. If Amazon has then in stock I'll probably get it from them this time.

Better yet,
#1 Since no one know when primes or docks are being shipped until they are given a tracking #
#2 Since, we can get no real straight answers on GPS/WIFI etc...
Why would you muddy up the forums with questions like these? Not trying to be a ****, just get tired of people posting things that NO ONE can answer, or if they can won't.
IMO, some people have too much time on their hands and will never be happy with a product unless they make it themselves, then they will be the only on happy as others will find flaws. THERE WILL NEVER BE A PERFECT PRODUCT PEOPLE!!! If there were there would never be "The next best thing".
Jumps off soapbox....
Also, I was a lucky one and got the 1st TP at my gamestop and I love it! My Dock arrives Tuesday from Newegg, screw you Amazon! (I was one one the ones who had my TP and dock canceled in their big SNAFU and re-ordered it when they allowed us to and canceled after I got confirmation I was getting from others that I ordered afterwards but getting it sooner.
I think it's a very valid question just in case someone might have a good idea answer. There are tons of folks on this sight with loads of information.
I am happy with my Prime but I am also not quite sure if it's *right*. I know the browser is slow but I've switched browsers and I still get rendering problems and blinking checkered board swatches all the time. I've read the touch screen calibration thread several times over and I think mine is kinda iffy there, too. Especially corners and when I'm trying to place the curser back in the middle of a paragraph or sentence.
So my thought right now is to wait it out, see what more I can find out, I have until early February to return it. Maybe by then newer production units will be out and perhaps there will fewer issues. Sometimes I think mine is perfect, other times I wonder. Now that more are available I am going to compare mine to a friends, look at the at Best Buy, and make sure mine is "right". It's damn close, I just want to make sure.
I'm not due to receive mine until the end of this month and maybe it's a blessing in this case since Asus' production line is probably going through an overhaul in quality and inspection. Your decision to wait it out may be worthwhile, at least until the ICS is ota and then you'll find out if it fixes your problems.

Removing GPS from the spec sheet or the Prime?

The ASUS FB posting said they were removing the GPS from the spec sheet not the chip from the tablet. Have you seen other information regarding any other action they are taking? I assume their FB announcement meant it would not be an advertised feature but the capability would still exist as an unadvertised feature.
Today was the official launch of the TP in The Netherlands and Asus Benelux confirmed there will be a 3G version within 3 months.
BTW Preorders were up today, ordered a 64 Gb Amathyst Grey.
Delivery Januari 10
[Q] May I assume that a 3G version could be used in wifi only mode and the only drawback would be the higher purchase price (no data charges if you never sign up for a 3G plan).
It appears something new may be on the way:

Prime 3G
And though the company’s German arm previously stated that there were no plans to bring a mobile broadband version of the tablet to market, another part of the Asus seems to think differently. Tablet Writings reports that the Asus office in charge of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg stated that a 3G Transformer Prime will be available some time in the future.

It is a great device that while it has a few issues here and there its nothing to throw the level of fits some do here. At very least give it a try and make your own judgements.

If you read through some of the longer threads you'll see references to "good" Prime's and "bad" Prime's. The loyalists will say their "good" Prime's are in the majority while those with issues will say the "bad" Prime's are. There have been Prime's in the first batch w/o issues and samples of the latest build with them. Some people have had to go through quite a few exchanges to get a Prime they're happy with while some got a "good" Prime from the first batch built on the first shot. Keep in mind that both "good" and "bad" are subjective. With that said, it's your call.
I would definitely get it. I have one and yes there was wifi and GPS issues but a recent update has fixed the wifi issue on my prime

Which, indirectly, is an answer unto itself.
who needs GPS?
Well, i decided to open my box. it's the new champagne version and as the wifi works (so far) the gps doesn't at all.. then again it's snowing here so it may not work until there's a nice, clear day. i'm giving mine the benefit of the doubt and we shall see over the coming weeks if it was a good decission or a bad one as i will end up making a thread about what issues i come across eventhough i haven't gotten even midway through a quarter of the threads based around this workhorse.
stay tuned. but as for me, even with the gps not being amazing, or even working... i'm still happy at this point
There is quite alot of complaining going on here. But dont let yourself be fooled by that. There are/were some issues with Primes, my guess is that its mostly early models that had some preproduction problems.
Most users here are very happy with their Primes myself included. My wifi is perfect wherever i am in our house, i could even use it in the garden if it werent -10° Celcius
In fact if i compare it with wifi analyzer to my phone its almost always a bit stronger. Also my GPS works pretty reasonable when i'm outside, getting a fix in under a minute, not the strongest but it works.
Everything else is just astounding. Browsing, gaming, reading books/comics ist just an amazing experience. Everything is smooth, battery is amazing (no .13 patch in europe yet), in fact i hardly ever power up my desktop pc anymore. High quality flash in fullscreen or even outputted to an HDTV is just nice.
Oh and i have a perfectly smooth and working n64 and psx with me now. All the time Wh00t!?
I really have nothing bad to say at this point. And btw, this is the first unit i got. No exchange was needed.
If you are comfortable dealing with bugs, exchanging the product several times until you receive a good working unit, receiving little to no support, being without the tablet during RMAs, and probable hardware issues which cannot be fixed with software, I say buy it.
Myself, I returned mine for something more stable, the acer A200. I'm waiting for either a fixed TF201 or a different quad core tablet.
I received a bad unit and might seem negative. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Get it, try it. If you like it, keep it. If not, return it. But, do NOT keep it past the return period if you actually want to return it.
Keep in mind that any future update may make you wish you had returned it.

- If you want to use GPS with your tablet I would recommend waiting.
- If you do not have a pressing desire/need for a tablet right now I would recommend waiting.
Given those two qualifications I would say go for it but do so with open eyes. Know your return window and if your unit has problems, or you can not live with the limitations, then be sure to return it in time. Personally I am quite fond of my TP but it would be foolhardy to deny that many have had problems.
If you can wait till June/July then I would recommend waiting for the 700 series transformer. Chances are Asus will have learned something from the TP and will update the wireless. Additionally by then the tegra 3 chipset will have been around long enough for the supporting code to be better situated. Finally the reported 1920x1200 screen is very enticing for me.
Ignoring the 700 I am sure the other manufacturers are not sitting on their laurels either. It might be worth a wait to see what comes out.
Thank everybody for your comments....

Are you a betting man (or woman)? Now that your question's been answered, I'll bet you an accessory this post is up to four pages by this time tomorrow and never leaves the front page. Such is the emotion the Prime evokes.

Janet said it best. If you don't need a tablet right now, there's zero harm in waiting. Hopefully Asus will work through the issues and a Prime purchased in the future will be more stable. If not, there are other tablets coming out so there will be something to compare to. Hopefully at MWC on the 27th manufacturers will do more than have a beauty pageant and actually announce some release dates.
If you are going to give it a try - make sure you buy from a store with a good return policy. 30 days, no shipping back fees and no restocking fees.
I have returned 2 and will return the 3rd. All of them had problems.
From my experience, I was amazed when it was advertised. I bought it, wasnt satisfied, exchanged it, wasnt satisfied again, in process of exchanging it, then the update screwed my wife's prime, so I returned that hers and cancalled mine for a full refund. We choose to wait for the prime to get its bugs out or a newer or better one to come out that we can try out and see if it something we can rely on.

+1 the future does not look good for this particular model of a new line comes out maybe then it would be worth it if they get QC under control with the processor.
I was speaking with Aaron from the special TF201 hotline for GPS/WIFI/BT. I have removed the phone number due to ASUS preference that TF201 owner use their product support line at 1-888-678-3688.
I called to arrange to a second RMA for a TF201 unit that he would personally check over for me. But he informed me that I should now wait because new parts are currently being manufactured that will "fix a lot of the problems with GPS/WIFI". He said they're expected to arrive in USA by the end of March. Aaron said the news came from Taiwan this morning.
All I can say is awesome! This is the hardware update we've been waiting for. Keep your fingers crossed that the engineers get it right this time.
This is good news for the ones who are stuck with their Primes.
For me, that's too much of a long wait. I'll probably just return my Prime and get the TF700T instead and forget about all the Prime nightmares.
ASUS may not want this phone number posted publicly. The reason I gave it was for others TF201 owners to be able to call and confirm the new part story. Perhaps, if the phone number is removed, ASUS could make a public statement here in order to give credibility to the GPS/WIFI/BT fix.
Thanks.
Works for me
Now I do not have to figure out how to get a TF700T back for my prime. I don't the mind "lower" res screen I have now

Exactly what I was thinking. And good for ASUS because they keep my money.
This is indeed interesting, because if they really can resolve the GPS/wifi/BT issues with some new parts, that'll mean that the Prime will definitely continue on as a product and the TF700 really will simply be a higher-end device. I'd probably go ahead and send mine in to get fixed, although I'm happy with mine as it is now.
Personally, I'm still torn between wanting the performance benefits of a 1280X800 screen vs. a 1920X1200 screen (that's 2.25 times the pixels when the TF700 will only have about a 10% increase in Tegra 3 clock speed) as compared to having better text for ebook reading. I'm thinking I'm happy with what I have now, but I have to admit to a nagging doubt. If the rest of the issues could be resolved, I think maybe the money I saved over the TF700 will make up the difference.

Sounds like good news. But I don't trust the RMA ogres handling my TFP.
Not sure if I will send mine in when the fix is available, my Wifi works fine and my gps works outdoors(but not good indoors--but I don't care).

Right. The TF201 then fits in the middle of the pack. Thanks for not abandoning us ASUS.
hopefully when the new parts are available, RMAing the prime will be quick and shipping paid by asus
I hope these changes make their way into new units soon. I have an extended warranty with the retailer that I could exercise instead
This is good news indeed, thanks for posting it. But yeah, as it's been mentioned, it might be best to remove the number. By the same token, it would also be nice if Asus could confirm that these fixes are coming. They may not want to do so publicly if they don't want to deal with a colossal flood of RMAs, though...
There is nothing wrong with he gps. It will never get better.

They can probably base it off your serial # as to when they shipped it out. I know Acer does it if you dont have a receipt. Which in your case should still be well within 1 yr.
Order # should work too in most cases.

Wow, great news and really hope it's true.
I'm still waiting on replacement for my current prime, but I heard it could take another few weeks. With a possible fix in sight I can wait 2 extra months if needed
Will keep the prime, because it's perfect when wifi is fixed. GPS will be nice.
This resolution is good enough for common use and for ebooks I'm still going to buy a Sony eReader: too much reflection on the prime although IPS+ is indeed bright.
BTW this resolution is better (faster) for gaming than HD on Tegra3 (T700 does come with Snapdragon and tegra3 model right?)

Now, if that was made official, then there would be some hope. As it stands, we cannot yet believe it. Would not be the first time tech support people misinformed customers.
Sent throught the wormhole from my CoinInserted Sensation OG.
Thought I might as well open a new thread 'cause everybody should have access to the good news easily:
Gary Key stated in his unofficial thread that spare parts are shipped to the service centers around the world:
The spare parts have arrived at service center in Switzerland. In my case it is a new mobo. The technician just called back and told me he would repair and test the tablet this afternoon.
Still missing mine since 120207
You might give me a thanks if this info makes you happy!
Update 120315:
To me it seems the mobo is the fix we all have been waiting for. It got replaced with my Prime which failed the final test at the repaircenter. My wifi-thing is wrecked, so they ordered a new one. This means: they got my device five weeks ago and they knew already from Asus there would be a new mobo released in the future so they assumed my trashy wifi (bad receiption, bluetoothlag and finaly unable to connect to my home router) was related to the faulty mobo design. Be sure it is, unfortunately my wifi is crap as well. I guess they found out after they'd assembled and reassenbled the tablet - lol -
The service center is contacting ASUS now after I complained mildly for being pushed aside during more than a month.
Well, that's why I hate frigging computers they all suck!!!!
Hopefully I can keep you updated otherwise I just got sick of it and my androidexperiment will have died.
Nokia N9 Meego ist the best, no frigging buttons just plain swipe. but this is another sad story ...
Zcech Rep. service centre? Or where?
What was the issue you RMAed it for?
I RMA'd mine to Czech, sent it friday morning:
Picked up Friday morning
Arrived in Manchester Friday evening
Arrived in Germany on the Sat Morning
Left Germany 3am this morning (Monday)
Arrived in Austria at 6am
Arrived in Czech at 8am
Return to shipper at 9:46am
Does this literally mean, they got mine, and have either:
1. just sent it straight back to me or
2. just sent me a brand new one and will deal with my old one later on
Any ideas?
@kevinm2k
Depends where you getting that tracking info, if its from couriers site it looks like it didn't get to service centre and for some reason being returned to sender
I went through the official return system with UPS, the tracking is from UPS here:
http://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking/...ns=yes&loc=en_GB&tracknum=1Z7634WR9390800355#
If I get the same one back unfixed then I won't be giving them another chance to RMA it and will demand a full refund - so hopefully that isn't the case!

When you unlocked your bootloader, you agreed to invalidate your warranty and to no longer receive any support from ASUS. I don't quite understand why you are asking this question.

This is exactly why I haven't unlocked yet. If there's new components or motherboards to be swapped out, I'd rather get that done first. Then have my fun unlocking and flashing roms. But it gives me time to let the roms mature more and build confidence in decision of unlocking and the consequences involved. I'm in no rush really. Stock rom working great for me. Plus with root(which I can easily remove if I want) and overclocking @ 1.6Ghz, I'm enjoying the very fast n slick stock experience.

Thank you, I don't understand why people who read the terms, and still decided to go ahead and unlock the device anyway, then want start a thread/post complaining that it's not fair. This is one of the reasons why Asus didnt want to unlock the bootloader to begin with, because no matter how you explain it to people, they still don't seem to be able to comprehend. Gary probably wont respond, because it was clearly stated that you VOID ALL updates/help
First off no one cried it wasn't fair. I understand the difference between not providing additional support and not fixing a pre existing well known initial design flaw. Do you guys?
Edit: just thought I would add, the first two messages sent to Gary were BEFORE I unlocked.

I agree you wasn't crying about it. I'd still give it a shot to see if they fix device. Hopefully they would show discretion and make it on a case by case decision on whether to fix or not. Just like places like best buy n Gamestop said they wouldn't take returns past due date, alot have been doing so. MAYBE ASUS will let some people slide also.
But we do have a mini epidemic of people, not you, blindly unlocking device(thinking its part of rooting..lol) and not realizing consequences involved. Like no more OTA updates and warranty voided.

I don't get it.
Everywhere dealing with the unlocker including itself says what it does and what it's for. Amazes me people just jump in like that.
Once we start seeing results I may send mine in. Every day that goes by it gets harder not to go on and install my own antenna lol

I went through the official return system with UPS.
If I get the same one back unfixed then I won't be giving them another chance to RMA it and will demand a full refund - so hopefully that isn't the case!

I am pretty sure that "returned to shipper" shows up in this case because the UPS label was created by Asus, so UPS "thinks" it was returned to the shipper.
It shows that it was signed for, so they do have it.

Yeah I hear ya. Seems like you can't say anything in these forums without getting flammed one way or another. I do completely understand that by unlocking my bootloader that I have no more support from Asus. That's why I've done research on how to flash and also why I have an account here so if I really screw something up I can ask someone much smarter than myself how to fix it =)
That is also why I bought a square trade accidental warranty so if I burn my cpu by flashing some of the awesome custom overclocked kernels, ill be covered.
I do however have the expectation that my wifi works to at least a similar level of my cell phone. I am not naive and I don't expect it to go toe to toe with my laptop but definitely similar range and throughput of my other mobile devices.
If Asus is making actual hardware changes because of a manufacture defect, I expect to get those very same changes.

how long after purchase can you get squaretrade for prime? but yeah its only fair if it was a manufacturing defect. I would think Asus should let unlocked people slide on that. maybe Gary can clear that up. not sure he will though because it would have to be worded correctly so not to be improperly used against Asus since alot of legal stuff around that. its a fair question to ask though. if you haven't already, you should ask in his new thread. you could could send another pm but I know his pm box is swamped with pm's.
at least with squaretrade you could always find a reason to send it in and get a replacement unit. which will either come with new components or be eligible for warranty since its not unlocked.
we have to remember this though. Gary did state that the new component pieces was only going to be implemented on a device by device basis. so basically only if their testing shows it to be faulty, will that device qualify for new component piece. its not like every device sent in will get it. as not all devices will qualify if they already meet Asus factory spec from new testing.
plus we not sure of what this "Great Prime News" coming up is.
I believe 90 days after purchase if bought retail. Don't quote me though as this is my first one. Bought mine with the amazon deal, I figured I've dropped it twice before and got away with just minor scratches but one of these times it will be broken gorilla glass lol.

Hey, my apologies if I came off rude benefit14snake, your question was indeed a valid one. It's just that I've seen so many post from people complaining about not being able to update after unlocking their tablets. Asus should fix ALL devices that have weak wifi, or they will end up losing customers in the long run.

Could have sworn it was 30 >.>
If it's 90 even I could still get SquareTrade
So I have a 64gb Prime, 1, almost 2 months with me after buying it from "AMAZON." this is a fraud product. it is not "primed to perfection" like the prime's slogan states. i have expeirenced the faulty wifi, and gps just like the others and is bothering me alot. i really want to exchange it for an infinity, or at least a newer prime w/o connection defect. has anyone tried this and successfully exchanged it for a infinity/fixed prime? we should also make a petition about this on asus for making a defective product to us consumers....
I too bought my prime 32gb from amazon, and would like to hear if we could exchange it for the Infinity
Staples wont help

I tried to return at staples , no go. Sent mine in to Asus waiting for an answer
No candy coating. Its not going to happen. Best thing you can do is send it in for RMA. If you plead your case enough and sound convincing enough, there's a minute chance of refund. They not even really doing refunds anymore but you won't know unless you ask or try. But don't get your hopes up on them exchanging prime for an infinity pad. Its not going to happen. Not to sound negative but just being realistic. I've already looked into this. This came from Gary and Tien. No exchanges for infinity pad happening. If you experiencing problems with your device, best solution is to RMA it. Depending on what the issue is, good chance it will come back fixed. even for wifi issues, there have been sligght improvements made from rma. On the flipside, some have no noticeable improvements also coming back from rma. It all depends on how the performance of it falls into thier baseline standard or whatever. They do havea new method of reworking the antennae sttenuation to improve its reception.
Just call them and see whwt they say. A petition wont really do any good, IMO. We have seversl other similar petitions that seemed to fail or not produce any results.
Good luck!
Actually, Never say Never. They could change something in the near future. But at present time, what I previously said was the response on exchange from them. Aside from possible wireless issues, I still believe JB update will bring about a huge improvement in prime performance. JB will include new rom, newer updated kernel, newer up to date drivers, more optimizations.
Sound like interesting on the up coming JB for the Prime. I hope that it is worth to wait.

It is probably based on his experience with JB on the Nexus 7 and the fact that Asus has publicly stated the TF201 is scheduled to get JB at some point in the future.
The current Asus policy is no refunds or exchanges but Asus could always have a change of heart. The Infinity is just now hitting the stores. If demand is weak and Asus is left with a lot of product sitting in their warehouse they may be more open to some kind of upgrade program for Prime owners.
I hope there is a change of heart. I bought mine from newegg. Really wish BB had one in stock when i was looking to purchase, otherwise this thing would have been taken in for exchange like all the other lucky members have been able to do.

I seriously hope I don't have to go this route... my prime is getting back from RMA sometime this week. If they couldn't fix the problems I mentioned, (specifically WiFi and Bluetooth) I have enough faith that they will have someone reasonable enough I can talk to who can get me an infinity replacement. Considering the infinity is being sold side-by-side at the same price as the prime, I don't see why they would argue against that. The infinity model simply doesn't have the defects the prime has which are covered by their warranty.

My prime has just entered RMA for a cracked screen. I'm kind of hopeful that there might be some QA type improvements so GPS might work better - and that's really all I need (assuming I/O can be improved enough with unlocking - was holding out for an RMA reason before i unlocked, but was hoping it would be something minor!).
If the repair is not free, it'll be small claims court for me too.

I now find asus as idiots, releasing a defective model. even when they know millions of primes are experiencing the problem, they still do not do anything but repair nothning. a simple recall and change for a really fixed version or the infinity that really fixed the networking problems should be implemented. wahahha
A recall is not necessary if only a small percentage of devices have bad problems - they need to be realistic about replacing genuine bad units though.

Could it make sense to head to a collective lament, incl. international customers? Even if we wont get it through, it might forces ASUS to move and avoid negative press.
Reading these latest posts are like experiencing deja vu from months ago. They are filled with newer users filled with hope that ASUS will fix the issues promptly via RMA and surely have people ready at the phone to assist with issues.
My greatest fear for you all, since this is a development forum afterall, is that the rma process doesnt turn off your ability to unlock your device, as it has for so many, once you get your device back and you eventually decide to unlock to actually partake of the "development" and use roms that actually fix many of the issues.

Why would we, or should we, has to unlock? Possibly voiding any ASUS warranty for a device we expected to be 100% out of the box. And paid over $650US for.
Unlocking is a bandaid that ASUS should supply.
The guys who bought from Best Buy are incredibly lucky and yes I am jealous, lol
Getting an exchange from my point of sale (Dixons) is out of the question
If it wasn't for the Asus presence on this forum stating that the teething problems were being worked on and would be fixed, I would have returned the tablet shortly after receiving it.
I'm very disappointed that they claimed the Prime was *not* being EOL'd and now look at where we are.
Personally I feel like Asus has just abandoned this tablet and the loyal customers that bought it.
(I've lost count of the Asus motherboards, soundcards, routers etc. I've purchased over the years...)
RMA'ing is just beyond a joke, and support is next to useless.
I would love to see Asus do the right thing and offer an exchange program for remaining Prime owners, but I cannot see that happening
Heck, I would even pay £££ to exchange and be rid of this tablet and it's sluggishness, under performing WiFi/BT and the plethora of other problems.
Oh, and I do not see the GPS dongle as a true solution to the non functioning GPS that was advertised as I cannot use it with the dock attached (which peeps in the UK were forced to purchase with the Prime as there were no tablets being sold without the dock.) or even a power cable.
Sorry for the rant, but after living with the problems of this tablet, and then seeing people able to return in exchange for a fixed version, It kinda pisses me off and I think that everyone should be treated fairly and be able to use the same/similar service no matter where you are or what store you purchased from.
Don't get me wrong though, I am very happy for those who managed to get an exchange, I am just annoyed that others like myself cannot do the same thing.
And before anyone suggests unlocking and flashing custom ROMs. Why should I let Asus off the hook and void my warranty?
Asus should be fixing the problems or replacing the hardware with something fit for purpose.
