Case sensor app to automatically sleep when case closed? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Does anyone know of a good app that works with the Prime to auto-sleep when the carrying-case is closed? I've heard of some that use the light/proximity sensors to do this on other tablets but haven't found any recommendations so far.

CaseSensor for Tablets, but it is not free.

CaseSensor is a really nice app actually.. I have Galaxy tab 2 10.1 with official samsung book cover and CaseSensor works wonderfully. When I close the cover 3 seconds later the screen turns off, when I open the cover.. the screen comes on right away and there's a setting to disable the lockscreen when the screen comes back on so it's pretty much perfect now.

Something seems to be wrong with my proximity sensor as well..it worked before but since .13 (now on .15 and still not working)..It was working back when I was on .11.1 though.
I know this because I was trying out apps like Smart Screen Pro etc. which turn off the screen when the sensor is covered and all.
Now apps like those don't work for me anymore...and I got AndroSensor to check on my device sensors and the Proximity Sensor sometimes says failed to start, while other times it says "Waiting for event" either way, it never works now
Any help with this?
On my SGS, I had a problem with accelerometer before and I just had to delete a file and let the system recreate it and the problem was fixed. Perhaps something similar can be done with the proximity sensor since it's kinda similar to the accelerometer in the sense that well..they're both sensors of some sort lol
While it actually has a chip that supports the proximity sensor (and thus reports having one), the chip is only used for the ambient light sensor. It doesn't have a proximity sensor.

Ohhh thanks for the info! I soon realized this as well when I was looking through the apps I was testing out before.. Turns out they were using light sensor and not proximity. D'oh!
Oh well, a proximity sensor on a big tablet doesn't make much sense come to think of it.
Ya it does light sensors use more energy than proximity sensors and control via cover state is quite desirable

The Prime has a cover state sensor, its magnetic just like that other tablet it is close to the webcam. It is used by the dock to turn off the screen when you close it.
Why no other covers are using it... I have no idea.

There are some reports that the magnetic sensor only works when the dock is connected. If thats true then one would have to find a way to trick the tablet into turning on the mag sensor manually before it would be any use.
There were some people wanting to use tasker to check the status of the mag sensor for various reasons, detect if its in a case, etc. but they had minimal luck.

Hrm. No.
I have tested this already myself, going to mod my leather case to allow a small magnet on it so the screen turns off when i close it.
The right spot is tricky to find, but it is there, it works and the dock does not have to be connected for it to work.
You can try it yourself, get one of those weak magnets from the freezer and put it around the frontal camera until the screen turns off. Just remember to deactivate the auto-off timer first
Nope. It does not have one.

Can you post a pic with the EXACT placement if this sensor, if it exists?
I have rubbed a magnet over every inch of my Prime and the screen never turns off because of it. With regards to the dock it makes much more sense that a mechanical switch would dictate when the screen turns off, since this would be more reliable and since the dock hinge can function like a switch, and the dock plugs directly into the tablet usurping certain tablet functions so it wold be easy to make the dock take over the function of the power button in certain conditions.

It makes absolute no sense to use an ambient light sensor to turn off a screen. Going from a room or a place with a bit of light into a dark room would turn the screen off.
There are 2 holes on the top of the prime bezel. One is the frontal camera, the other the light sensor. The magnet is not there.
If you are facing your Prime it is to the right and a bit down of your frontal camera.
The manget is in the dock right off the track pad.
You can get the exact location with a paper clip. it will stick there.
So, here is the video...
Sadly like other user noticed, it does not work without the dock Probably happened after one of the updates, cause it was working without dock before.
I found the spot myself.
On my BBOK Transformer Prime, the magnetic sensor is just to the right of the camera, but about one inch down into the screen area. If you play with with the keyboard using a magnet you can find a magnet under the right end of the spacebar.
Unfortunately I can confirm that the tablet won't turn off in this way without the keyboard dock connected.

[DIY] SmartAss Cover for your Asus TF101

Yup, it's here, and you can do it!
Hope you enjoy it!
Don't carve your cases/buy any special thin strong magnet until you're sure you have the functionality you want!
Jelly Bean!
Some users reporting it works great. In my XP, it works perfectly on RaymanFX's JB rom.
-On ICS:
Some roms:
Lock+Wake - Same functionality as in iDevices!
Tested on: Megatron Rom, (derived from CM9)
May work perfectly on your ICS rom.
On some ICS roms:
It will work the opposite way.
Meaning that the device will unlock (wake) when the magnet gets closer to the screen, instead of further away (like Apple's, or other ICS roms)
-Non-ICS roms:
This only WAKES the device, doesn't unlock it.
If you want unlock you can set locking method to None in the preferences.
It does NOT Lock the device on honeycomb roms.
Haha! Brilliant.
Awesome. Now to find a very thin magnet.
Don't get it. So just placing a magnet on those coordinates on the tablet will make it do this?
It works.....
doh! but the main question I have it - WHATS THE COVER? how is it named and where did you got it? I cannot find any transformer-related case with such thin borders and not covering its face at all.
The case has been reviewed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401135
In my experience, the best ebay search you can do in order to find it is : "360 TF101 case".
Many sellers ship it worldwide so you should be able to get it no problem!
Thanks a lot! Found and ordered it
So THAT'S how the Tablet knows when you hinge it up from the keyboard when docked!

The case emulates the opening of the lid on the keyboard dock which wakes the tab. The keyboard has a magnet on the dock that corresponds to the coordinates on the tablet. He says this in the video with the little stringy things floating around.
This mod would work great in conjunction with Power Switch, which sleeps the tablet when you close the cover.

my power button is flaking out, takes atleast two jabs for off/on this magnetic trick would have been a great bypass.

[App] Flip Case Control - Auto Screen On/Off

I had a bunch of requests for Wave Control to have this functionality. I thought it best to do a dedicated app so here it is!
Flip Case Control was designed to work with Samsung's Flip Case on the I9300 while using as little battery as possible. (I left it running all night ~8.5 hours and the battery dipped 1% more than usual)
IMPORTANT: If your case is black or dark on the inside, the sensor doesn't read correctly when the case is closed. To fix this, put a piece of light colored tape on the inside of the case where it lines up with the sensor (located next to the front camera)
Note: A Samsung based ROM is required. CM won't work well.
Here's a demo video:
Play Store Links:
24 Hour Trial Version
Full Version
Could you guys with the Flip Case test it out?
All feedback is appreciated greatly!
I would like to try it for you but unfortunately i don't have flipping cover for this lovely device as it is not here yet everyday im searching everywhere but nothing
Waiting OP to give us their opinion about this app

There shouldn't be but it is conceivable that if the case surface facing the proximity sensor is black and absorbs too much of the IR from the LED on the prox sensor then it wouldn't register a near reading.
The proximity sensor is an IR LED and light sensor. It detects distance by the amount of IR light that get reflected back off the surface in front of the sensor.
If this is the case, you could try to put a piece a light colored tape on the inside of the case where it lines up with the sensor.
Let me know if this works. What's brand of your case?

According to me proximity autolock works well and it is available on play store
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
It works OK at the moment, I think the sensitivity should be decreased though as something passing an inch or two above the proximity sensor will still turn off the screen. Seeing as flip covers get up close and personal with the proximity sensor this seems a bit too sensitive.
EDIT: Definitely too sensitive, seems to turn off at random at times. Just had a phase where it wouldn't let me keep the screen on.
Maybe a failsafe of sorts could be implemented? Leave the screen on until timeout/power button press if turned on by the power button?
Edit 2: I uninstalled the app to stop it turning the screen off constantly, but it continued even after a reboot, I went into the display settings and saw the screen timeout had been changed to "()"and this was causing the issue, as soon as I changed it back to 30 seconds it was fine. Is this supposed to happen?

Proximity Autolock is a nice app with some excellent features but uses too much battery on The Note 1, an additional 8% overnight. And it doesn't work well on my Note 2.
The app works well. I bought it
It's a very useful feature that Samsung should have built in, but hey, I don't mind supporting you.

I agree Samsung should have made this app. When I first showed it to a friend, he said "Isn't it already supposed to do that?"
A Beta
Here's what I'm playing with right now.
It should hopefully fix the bug D3_ ran into as well as reduce the false triggers. There will still be some due to sensor placement but this should make it much less sensitive. Also response time to turn on the screen should be a little bit faster. It's working well on my I9300, hopefully it should be the same on the Note II.
Let me know if this is performing better for you guys.
Still coming:
Disable in Landscape Mode
Disable when plugged in
[Edit: Removed Old Beta]
Just installed the beta, will report back after some use of it.
V1.05
Just uploaded version 1.05 to the Play Store
Changes:
Reduced false triggers for screen off
Changed button UI
Added notice about dark cases
Updated icon
Sped up screen on response a little bit
Cant you just do this using Tasker? I already spent money on the flip cover, so kinda hesitant to spend more for this functionality (which should be there in the first place!)

Yep it's strange, what's the point in having a clear section when 2 seconds after closing the case, the AOD turns off?
Seems like a software fix is required on this as it seems to defeat the purpose of the case design.

because you can see anyone calling and answer or dismiss them, see alarms and cancel these.
True but the marketing images shown certainly give the impression that the screen will be displayed with time/notifications etc, not be there briefly for 2 seconds and disappear.
Agreed, great case but having the aod stay on, umm, always would be great
If you close the case, then hit the power button, the AOD will stay on. Only just discovered this, so not sure how long it stays on for - it's been 3 minutes so far... I've set the screen sleep to 10 minutes, so it might go off then. Not sure how I set the screen not to sleep at all, as it wasn't an option in the settings?

It only stayed on for about 5 minutes, which isn't really that useful. That is a bit of a design-flaw in the software. The AOD works fine with no flip cover, but becomes Sometimes On Display when used with the flip cover. Not the end of the world, but annoying. I'm trying some 'screen always on' apps to see if they can help, but so far, no joy.
Did somebody find a solution to this problem?

Yes it does that, BUT after about 5 seconds the display goes off, until you either open the case or press the power button. IMO the display should stay on in the little window to the right.
Just had mine delivered.
Cover doesn't settle flat on the screen. I suspect it may be because I have a tempered glass screen cover (Spigen).
I like the case (looks smart) but I'm not convinced I want to take the protector off. Will see if it settles over the next few days.
Similar issues here, when closing the case the screen goes off.. If I power it on then it stays on for the 2 min duration where the "auto screen off" is set. I'd expect that to be overridden by the "always display information" setting. And it seems to work perfectly well without the case attached / kept open.
I have also removed the screen protector which was on when I got it, seems redundant now I have a case, and attracts a lot of fingerprints too... but that has made no difference.
Really disappointed this doesn't work.. had smart cases on the last couple of HTC's and this looked like a step up, but in fact it does less, as the notification range is more limited.
I wonder if the case covers the sensor.. because if I let the screen go off with the case open, then the screen stays on correctly..

I use this feature always on my M5 8.4. I don't have it with me to test the sensor location, but you can test it yourself placing a magnet in different places on the screen. Somewhere it will turn on and off.
Are you using stock rom?
The location the magnet test should be made (based on my 8.4) is bottom left corner of screen about 1-1.5 inches in if holding portrait. I don't know where on 10 inch model. My case is the same turns out the magnet in the case was either misplaced or not powerfull enough to trigger the auto screen off.

Head to settings to find the option to check the box smart cover, provided you have the supported cover.
It's working on mine
Finally I changed the case and in the new one it's working. So it was case's problem
