Failed new OTA update - Motorola Photon 4G

Hello, Im a botón 4g user.
I bought de ir trought ebay ano use it un Colombia un a gsm network.
I hace root it, y unlock the bootload and has the rom homenaje, last update
Also delete (anterior a precios backup) the files that skip the sprit activation cause was os annoying after every reboot.
Anyway, it was working just fine, right nos Im un brazil os Im using the phone just over wifi.
Just now started downloading a ota update and reboots, but fails un the process of installing the update, y has no news about what kind of update is the one I downoad. I turn on the phone but artea while it power off attending to insall the update
What can I do? Hola aniones has idea o the ota update. I had the 2.3.4 versión and already had the update released un septiembre ir october by sprit

whoa....
anyways you cant do anything honestly... as you tampered with the system so it wont pass the ota... if you want the updated software you are gunna have to flash using rsdlite. there are all teh files youll need in my signature (red lite as well as the various sbf's..) i suggest 198_7

I used RSDLite and flashed 198_6 (heard its more stable than 198_7)... All is well now... Even WiFi started throwing errors at first, later after few tweaks, it also started working and I rooted it with AIO root method from this great forum... (I am using Photon as my GSM phone)... I thought of thanking the members here, but since I am n00b here, I am NOT allowed to post in Development sub-forums (I guess)...

I do believe stability is about the same, it is that most the current roms are based on 198_7.
It is the prefered platform to rom from since it gives common consistency for when the devs need to get bug reports from. No need to chase down bugs from other builds your roms arent even developed for.
That is why you will see dev's prefering 198_7 over 198_6.

[Q] Is there any recommendation before upgrading to 2.2.2?

Hi! In these days I want to upgrade my phone OS to 2.2.2 [I currently have the V10a-OCT-01-2010].
Should I make any operation on the phone before updating with LG Suite?
Is this a required step to do in order to install the official Gingerbread update in the future?
Thank you
I do not know if its required, but my phone diffidently worked better, smoother after getting the 2.2.2 update. If you stay with LG's OS, and do not get a custom ROM, then you will be able to get the 2.3 update simple and easy, just like the 2.2.2 update (or so I've heard). However, if you put on a custom ROM, you will not be ale to get the 2.3 OTA update - you will have to install a custom 2.3 ROM. For the sake of simplicity, convince, and warranty, I would personally suggest just getting the update, and not ROM'ing your device, at least till after the 2.3 update.
Tho, if I'm misinterpreting your question and you're just asking if there are any pre-update procedures you need to do, then there aren't =P

just root via updated info
install custom recovery
install custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354 2.3.4 latest and is stable

Upgrading to 2.2.2 in not necessary to get the Gingerbread official update. You can directly upgrade from V10a to Gingerbread when it is released by LG.
And if you want to update to 2.2.2, you can directly connect phone to LG PC Suite and check for phone update. No data will be lost after the update, but just to be safe you can backup your data using the PC Suite backup functionality.
Is there any alternate way to update? one which does not require the use of pc suite. Cause my internet si too slow to download the update via pc suite (having the phone connected all the time) and update
You can update the stock firmware using kdz updater. For instructions on how to use the updater- refer to the following thread
HOWTO] Rooting, Installing -Android SDK, Custom Recovery, Custom ROM's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007244
I would like to warn you that using kdz updater is a slightly risky undertaking and that you should stick to updating your phone through the pc suite provided along with the phone whenever you are on stock firmware.
Difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 for optimus
Whats the difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2? Anything better??

I have to disagree with you. Updating stock firmware using pc suite is a far safer option than using kdz updater to flash original firmware.

Nothing much practically except for the bragging rights.
Edit - And, LG is supposed to have fixed the sd unmount issues with this update, though many users still report the issue as occurring even after an update.
Edit - lg has also incorporated a touchscreen lagfix into the 2.2 2 kernel.

Have they fixed the touchscreen bug? Heard the touch screen experience is better than previous firmwares.

well I can't update any other way. So this is maybe the only way I can flash official firmware v10e
Well then follow the instructions in the thread I linked to earlier to the word, and you will face no problems in flashing the original firmware using kdz updater.
My suggestion is dont update it. Well, sounds weird right?
I dont feel any obvious fix on the touchscreen lag, and the worse part is, the phone turns out to be laggier than 2.2.1!
when i running with 2.2.1, i manage to get around 460+ with the quadrant benchmark
while with 2.2.2, maximum score i manage to get was only 416 =(
Well, this happens to my phone, maybe others dont have such problem.
I successfully Flashed android version 2.2.2 v10E using KDZ updater
I was unable to do so with the LG PC Suite
this firmware is compiles by some LG engineer called vijay Kumar v10E
the previous one was made by someone called _____Yadav v10b
One major improvement is the app drawer
its much more smoother, also got two new icons to the app list, these are "app installer" and "Games"
the latter is just a bookmark to gameloft games. App installer gives a black screen (maybe its slow, so lets be optimustic)
facebook app icon is changed too.
In contacts, the facebook contacts have a yellowish orange box with an arrow protruding from it instead of the older facebook icon (which i liked )
Hi all! I opened this thread because after two month (since the hard reset) my phone suddenly started rebooting (or quitting itself) twice a day and that gets me nervous.
Honestly I would like to use LG software for 2.2.2 and 2.3, and I wanna start rooting my phone after 2.3 when LG finishes to support my P500.
Have I to unmount the SD from settings before upgrading with LG Suite? How long does the upgrade take?
Does this upgrade stop my rebooting problem? Sometimes I have to unmount/mount the battery to use my telephone again
Thanks to all

I admit that chances of bricking do exist when trying to upgrade via pc suite. But, for a user with stock android running on his phone and who hasn't fiddled with his phone in any way(root, custom recovery, kernel etc..), the best option to install the firmware upgrades provided by LG would be using the official PC suite provided by LG as the chances of bricking the phone using kdz updater is still greater.
And,if by using LG PC Suite anything goes wrong, you aren't left with a feeling that you have done damage to your phone using tools other than the one officially prescribed for the purpose. Just kidding..
It is in this context that I answered as I felt that the post opener was a person who hadn't customised his phone in any way and was just asking about the firmware upgrade process.
PS: Googling is a good pastime. But, selective interpretation kinda defeats the purpose.
It is funny seeing you tell me about searching the web. This, coming from the same person who after he had visited my thread and sought my help thru PM’s , then claimed to have no knowledge of a similar topic on the forums as exemplified by his opening line “Hi All! After huge search in the forum i found the guides scattered ,so i decided to put it in 1 thread helping all the newbies to install custom rom“ in his own thread on the same topic started a few days later ( an almost exact replica in terms of content but with a few grammatical errors thrown in, I suppose to cause the distinction and also a topic on apps2sd which in my opinion should be avoided in a thread meant for newbies to avoid confusion and more so as there are rom’s with apps2sd built-in.)And when confronted in his own thread , coming up with the lamest excuse possible that I had edited my thread after his pioneering work was posted. Well, I wouldn't go as far as calling you a THIEF & a LIAR, But it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine.
imo kdz is not for the newbs. one needs to read carefully each and every step for performing an update using kdz.
but with pc suite you dont need to know anything.
kdz is definitely a faster method when compared to pc suite.
but in the end even if the phone gets bricked by both the service center guys will not know (right?). you were, anyways, trying to flash official firmware.

How do you expect me to help you if you cannot even follow the simplest of instructions like the spacing of commands? You can't seriously expect me to physically type out the commands properly on your phone.
Don't blame me for your loss. Blame yourself.
And what did I receive in return for my help. A BIG NOTHING. No thanks and no mention of my thread on your copycat thread.
I don't claim to have invented the instructions in my post. I too collected the info from other threads, forums and sites (though unlike you, i had to search different places to get all the info). But, at least I give credit where it is due.

[Q] Updating Firmware on Rooted Device

I have never had the need but I am considering rooting. One item I am concerned about is the ability to get firmware updates after rooting. Do they still prompt/download? If not what do you guys do about this?
NEVER take a firmware update when you're rooted; thats never a good idea. Devs usually get the updates, cook them in the roms, then you would flash the updated rom over your current (if its same) or flash the newly rooted rom. Alot easier than it sounds, you'll get the hang of it. 9 out of 10 times accepting firmware updates will remove root. Just ask the retards that accepted the 2.3 GB update on their Evo 4G lol. Had to wait abt 3 months for root ...

Point in the right direction pls

Ok firstly im no stranger to Android, and not entirely new to Moto (Atrix 4G), but I have to say that the RAZR has me pretty confused.
I have a Rogers RAZR being delivered that I picked up on the cheap. Its brand new and supposedly "unlocked". I would love to get ICS running on it, but despite reading the treads here for the last couple of days im still uncertain if its possible
I have used RSD before with the Atrix, but it was only to apply a patch that would allow you to unlock the bootloader (also surprised to see that the RAZR is still locked down). I know that you can flash ROMs via RSD, but what I do not understand is whether or not root and custom recovery is required? I assume that if you're flashing an official ROM, then no it is not. Correct? I also thought that flashing full sbf files was dangerous to attempt. Maybe im way off here, I don't know.
Im still a bit confused about the GSM patch for CDMA ROMs too. People seem to report issues with their phones when this is done. So im not too sure that it is a good idea to go that route either.
I understand that when things start to happen for a phone in terms of ROMs, recovery, work-arounds etc... that it can get a bit messy in the forum and things can get buried a few pages back, but i've been reading until my head hurts and i'm still uncertain where to begin. Also, there is an update that is also "supposedly" beginning this month for official ICS, but we all know that could be delayed, and delayed, and delayed. Wondering if I should just wait.
I guess I'm really hoping for someone to say do this, then this, and this...viola! I don't need an in depth step by step as I know how to figure out instructions from their respective threads. But if someone has a min to post a point form list like
Root with Motofail
Install Boot to CWM
Flash this ROM
Then this ROM etc etc...
Any help is appreciated and I hope no one thinks im asking to have my hand held here, but im at a loss. Just don't want to F my new phone when it arrives.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help a fella out.

A. Yes. If you're flashing an official rom you do not need root/cwm. Flashing full sbf with rsd is safer than cwm restoring a nandroid backup. But if you do you'll not be able to receive further otas updates. Bootload is locked in Razr also there's a region signature verification. So you cannot flash another region rom. :/
Im still a bit confused about the GSM patch for CDMA ROMs too. People seem to report issues with their phones when this is done. So im not too sure that it is a good idea to go that route either.
A. Most of related problems on that is due bad procedure following.

A. There's one official update for latam razrs, like yours. The 2.3.6 > go into dev section and you'll find out. Ics will out in a month. Fingers crossed!

In the Photon 4G Android Development section, within the first four posts is a thread called !!!LOOK HERE FIRST!!! Motorola Photon Compendium a.k.a. all things MoPho 06/11/12 that was originally posted in December of 2011 and is regularly updated. The Photon Compendium is the single largest source of information on the Photon anywhere. There you will find information to root, unlock, and return your Photon to it's original software as well as a list/links of almost every ROM released. I suggest you look there.
well i fanally found how to flash stock rom ''Relocking via FullSBF flash'' and i did all the steps but it says ''flash 1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf'' but i flash my curent version and everything went great but sometimes i get wifi error, my phone was already unlocked and rooted and i would like to follow your tutorials but when i download all the ''Root-Unlock-Relock'' packs i cant extract them at least not with winrar any sugestions about this?

[Q] Help getting to neutrino ROM??

Just order a new atrix 4G. I have looked at the possible ROM's to use and I want to try out the Neutrino ROM. I have rooted devices before but I am new to Motorola devices. Please help me find the CURRENT steps I need to take to get to be able to run the Neutrino ROM? I have used the search bar but a lot of the threads that I have found contain links that are no longer valid. Such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600 Also I read a this link http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/motorola-atrix-4g/ which has me a worried that I may end up having an issue because all of the guides or seem to have been written before May 15th.
Thanks for taking a look and sorry if that was a little confusing I just didn't want to get flammed for being lazy. In the end I just want to know the most up to date way to get to the Neutrino ROM?? Below I will have included the specs. If I need to post anthing else please let me know
I recieved my phone last night and set it up on Striaght Talk.
System version: 45.31.0.MB860.AsiaRetail.en.03
Model Number: MB860
Android Version: 2.3.4
Your help is GREATLY APPRIECIATED!!
Also on the youTube videos they all seem to say "DO NOT DO TRY TO UNLOCK OR ROOT IF YOU HAVE 2.3.4 OR IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!"
Is this still the case or has there been a work around for it yet??
you have to unlock bootloader, but you can get FAIL with last step.
If you will get fail - don't worry, you can still unlock it via fastboot (tested on mine INTL Atrix, but every phone is a little bit different)
flash recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash rom, flash gapps. Done
Thanks ovitz. Can you point me to a thread describing how to unlock the bootloader on this phone?? I can do all the other stuff that you said I need to do after the bootloader is unlocked(clearing and flashing). Just really dont want to mess up my phone. I got 2 actually one for my girlfriend as well. I have java and all SDK/ADB and all programs that I may need. Just want a step by step for comfort.
Is the search not working for you?
http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/1136261/
The thread is sticky even.
DISCLAIMER: I used this to unlock the BL on my Atrix, but mine is an older one, dating back to around Feb 2011. I do not know if this still works on brand new devices, however I am not aware of any other way to unlock (there probably isn't any other way really).
What is the other way (not using fastboot) to unlock this bootloader?? I tried fastboot oem unlock and got this message "INFOOEM unlock is not implemented"
Do I need to use an SBF with RSDlite or something to make this possible? If so please point me in the direction of that thread!?!
Thanks for anyone that can help

Sorry ravilov...Did not see your post as I had started a post and then ventured off to seach XDA and some other forums again as well. I have gotten to the link that you posted several times. I just saw that is was posted a long time ago and that there is a lot of things in that post that dont make too much sense to me.
First it says "All phones If you have unlocked then try to use 2.3.4 update zip from Motorola servers, then revert back to a "pre-unlock" version(1.8.3 or earlier on ATT) you will get bricked! Do not use the OTA via experimental servers and revert to older versions WITHOUT pudding preinstalled in your sbf. ATT ONLY Get your 1.8.3 with pudding from the pudding/unlocker section below."
Then shortly after is says "Disclaimer: Tested on 1.8.3 and 2.3.4 using sbf_flash and RSDLITE 5.3.1 or higher, usual warnings being responsible for your own actions yada yada"
So I dont really know if it works or not on the newer atrix's. I dont want to brick a brand new phone and I would just like to see that some one else has done it recently. So yes my eyes are open and search did work for me if you did not see the 2 other threads I mentioned. I just want something up to date, not from early 2011. If it can be confirmed that this works or If you know someone who has unlocked it recently, that would be great to hear from them.
Thanks for posting the link to that thread anyways though. Much apprieciated!
Can anyone tell me if the IHOP method to unlock bootloader will work with my phone?? I cant post in that thread because I do not have enough posts. Here are my specs so I could get some help with which patch to use with RSDlite.
System version: 45.31.0.MB860.AsiaRetail.en.03
Model number: MB860
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: N_01.100.00R
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9

GAS_ASIA_USAOLYGBSEART_A003
GAS_ASIA_USAOLEMSEARET_M001
Build number: 4.5.2A-74_OLE-31
Something else I want to note is that it was bought on ebay as unlocked so I am assuming that is the radio. When I set up the APN for straight talk it did have the choices for AT&T US, AT&T US HSDPA, AT&T US Tether, AT&T US MMS. So this is why I am a little confused/scared as to which piece of pudding to use. It looks easy enough to unlock and clear the caches and flash the ROM I will want to use. Just would like to know which one to use.
Please, please somebody help!!:fingers-crossed:
Thanks you for taking a look to help. Much apprieciated!!!
For a phone with the Asia Retail firmware, you'll want to use RSD Lite to flash the IHOP SBF. Your phone will likely enter a soft brick as stated above, just proceed with the unlock commands in fastboot from the error screen.
Since its an international phone, if you don't load a new ROM soon after unlocking then you'll need to flash the "RAMfix" from the Development section here. Most ROMs have that built in to the kernel, though, so it's not needed if you're going directly to a ROM.
In case you need it in the future, you might want to locate your stock SBF for Asia Retail and keep it on hand. If you see the Atrix Firmware Superthread in the Dev section, find the later Page that has new links to updated download sites. It's a post with a link to all Gingerbread firmwares and a link to all Froyo firmwares. Yours will have "searet" in the name. Make sure it's the same version, 2.3.4. Flashing anything older will brick you.
Good luck!

Quite welcome.
APNs are usually set by your SIM, if it's provisioned properly and the phone supports it.

Good to know About the APNs. Just to let you know I unlocked, rooted, and flashed the ROM the day you first replied. So I've been running with a new ROM for 3 days and the battery life is great!!
If anyone out there has installed the Neutrino ROM, I have one more question. On the Neurino ROM page it say to do these 2 steps:
"Then, after booting, click on script manager, navigate to /system/etc and run NitroCharger.sh as ROOT and at BOOT!
It is also HIGHLY recommended to download the GPS Mod found in #2. Then you're done."
I tried flashing the GPS mod but I keep gettng an error. Then on my first boot I tried going to /system/etc and from there I do not know where to locate NitroCharger to run it for either. Any help on these two issues would be great!! Also another thanks for everyone for taking a look and helping.
I would post in that thread but I still dont have enought posts.
You really need to reread the original Neutrino thread, since all of this has been answered countless times.
YOU DO NOT FLASH THE GPS MOD DIRECTLY. Open the ZIP and read the instructions.
NitroCharger is only available as an OTA update, but you might reconsider if you really want it since it's been known to cause issues.
Again, I know the thread is very large, but whatever questions or issues you might have, it's very likely answered there already.
Thanks you for just answering, even though you think I should just reread the thread. That answered my questions very fast. I will just not run Nitrocharger, I thought it may casue problems if I could not get it to run, instead you said it is the opposite. As for the GPS mod I just did open up the .zip and read the readme. I pulled out the United_States.zip
Can I just use CWM recovery to flash the US.zip now or do I have to clear all my caches and the likes beforehand?
I know your very busy and I apprieciate the time you take to just look at it.
I have just started my own business and it is going great!! but I have been working 14+ hour days with usually 9 hours hour doing very hard physical labor 6 days a week!! I need to hire more employees soon, lol. I read the whole IHOP thread from front to back and the Neutrino thread but I was very exhasted and stayed up until 330 in the morning doing it!! So again I thank you for taking your time I appriciate it very MUCH that you are helping me to have a fun android experiance and also to learn something new to me!!
Yes, you can just go ahead and flash United_States.zip. No need to clear anything.
Awesome your the MAN!! Thanks again  :good:
