ok I got a question that needs a straight answer. I have a atrix4G from bell its on stock without root or anything. I have a lapdock coming in the mail!
What i would like to know is can i use the phone with the lapdock after i rooted and de-bloatware it??
even if i dont de-bloatware it can i use the phone rooted with the lapdock or will that be a problem. I just have some apps i want that need root
if i can is there anything that i need to do that is different then the normal root procedure?
thanks in advance and sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.
Root isnt a problem, but some of the moto system apps are needed.
Can I get rid of blur? And still use lapdock?

yes you can as long as you are running stock rom/kernel underneath
if you managed to delete your webtop you can install Rom Manager, install ClockworkMod Recovery within rom manager, and flash the appropriate version of webtop (find it in the fruitcakes thread in the developer section).

Hi All,
I have a rooted Atrix running 4.1.57 with the webtop hack. Every time I try an OTA upgrade, it runs into an error after rebooting, and I have to pull the battery to get it to normal.
I want to install Pudding and run GB (either stock, or a custom ROM), while retaining root. I also want to make sure that I don't lose my any game states - I'd hate to play them all over again.
What's the best way to go about this. You'll have to bear with me because I'm a n00b, and I haven't had the time to keep in touch with things lately.
Thanks.

You should really search these things yourself, but I will help. Don't ota update! It will "burn" the fuse and make you unable to flash down again ( it will hard brick if you go from 4.5.91 to any firmware below it) use the pudding sbf, it comes prerooted. Titanium backup in the market will backup apps and their data.

Thanks! That's exactly what I ended up doing yesterday. I flashed a 4.5.91 that supposedly unlocked the bootloader as well.
Its unlocked if it says unlocked when you first power up the phone.

Hey everyone, I am new to the rooting world however I have only experienced good things. I decided to root my thunderbolt using TB Autoroot+htc sync last night(had the original stock froyo, was going to installed cyanogen mod 7) and was successful. Unfortunately, I then installed the leaked 2.3.4 RUU GB which rerooted my TB before I installed the cm7(wanted to try the RUU out, bad idea lol). I was wondering if all or any of these are possible (dont care about losing data, just don't want to brick, ie avoiding command lines if possible):
1. root the phone while maintaining the leaked 2.3.4 RUU, just as was done for FROYO? Original reason for rooting was to remove the bloatware apps, but not having custom roms would be ok at this point if that is this is the only option. I know there is the revolution method to root, however will that work on the leaked 2.3.4 RUU?
2. root the tb with my current 2.3.4 RUU and install the BAMF 2.3.4/sense 3.0 GB build, or some other custom 2.3.4 rom?
A tutorial or walk through would be great! I know there are some out there, however I am looking for one specifically for those that have the leaked 2.3.4 RUU on the thunderbolt.
Also, can someone explain the difference in features of the GB builds that have been out for some time(customs) vs the RUU by verizon? I'm not talking about the physical aspects or the apps that come with, but more in terms of installing/switching between them. I know I need to root in order to install the custom roms, but assuming i can root the 2.3.4 RUU, will I be able to install any other 2.3.4 rom such as BAMF or cyanogen without problems? I have heard that you just arent allowed to go backwards, ie back to Froyo one you update to GB, but I should be able to install any 2.3.4 GB ROM once rooted via the bootloader(power+volume down) True?
Any help would be great! Thanks!
Yes you can. Just use revolutionary to root the new GB build. Here is a video tutorial for you.
Well, here comes your first less than pleasant reply...
Pretty much everything you wanted to know is posted in my thread stickied in the Q&A section. That's also where this post is going to end up. Please check my thread on basic noob questions, search before posting, and post in the correct forum.

If you are rooted, just use a program like root explorer to search for a file called otacerts.zip and rename it to otacerts.bak
When you open root explorer, make sure to put it into write mode. look at the top left side of the program and press on the mount r/w option
Cant find rom
I want to flash rom but I cant find it in my sd card through rom manager and also through recovery any suggestions its in the root of the phone highest directory

If you used your phone to download a rom, its in the "download" folder, move it to the root of sd card

Root Error
I am trying to Root my Thunderbolt but keep getting the following error:
Failed to get Root!
I am using revolutionary.
I have installed, made sure their was a connection, and then removed HTC Sync.
I downloaded and installed Android USB Drivers.
I selected USB Debugging
Thunderbolt Info:
HBOOT 1.04.000
Android 2.3.4
ROM Ver 2.11.605.9
What am I missing and where can I get it? Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance...
I've never rooted but I believe you need to downgrade. Revolutionary does not work with the latest OTA. There are several posts around that explain how to downgrade to the previous OTA (link below). Then you should be able to use the revolutionary method.

Yes you need to downgrade to 2.11.605.5 then use reveloutionary
Hi Everyone,
Picked up my Photon yesterday, gotta says I like it. Today I used the AIO 4G root method, very easy I must add, and I'm rooted and ready to go. I have a question about Clockwork Recovery for the Photon. My previous device, Moto droid X, used ROM Manager with clockwork 5.0.3.7, I think the numbers are right. What is available for the Photon and is there any requirements other than root? Do I need to be locked or un-locked? (I really don't want to break 4G to have CWM) I have Root Explorer and Tibu installed and can backup apps, but I would like to make a complete clockwork backup. Once this is possibble I'll be looking into Rom-ing and theme-ing.
Thanks
P.S. Is there a "Noobs Guide" to the Photon?

There is a guide in the Developer Section, but yes you have to be unlocked to use CWM, ROM Manager is not used on the Photon 4g, there is CM7 in the Developer section, that you will see once you go over there, I believe it says something along the lines of, Unlocking, Rooting, CM7, and more goodies with videos and links..
watch qbkings video on how to unlock mophos boot loader and flash clockwork its pretty easy i did it last night but remember to download android sdk cant unlock with out it
Looking for some help everyone.
Since I got the phone here in the UK, I have rooted it with the Bionic Bootstapper method, then the Razr Bootstrapper method and even though I thought I used Voodoo Rootkeeper, when I did my update to 2.3.6 via RSD I have since lost root again.
Now I believe I can root again with Motofail, but I cant find the app for this. I have looked in the Dev section and see a utility tool for GSM & CDMA but only the CDMA one appears to say root 2.3.6 motofail, the GSM one doesnt.
1. Can anyone help me with the right location of Motofail that will work for my phone ? 651.167.19.XT910.Retail.en.EU
2. Will I then be able to reapply the boot into CWM direct from start-up again ?
3. How do I get rid of the Bionic & Razr bootstrapper apps/utilities whatever they are if they they are no longer required.
Thanks in advance for your help
Can you not just uninstall the bootsrap apps? I can on my RAZR. Either by long press on their icon and then 'uninstall' our through the manage apps menu.
What fast boot files did you use to get to 2.3.6 on UK
I can't post links as this is my second post but googling root Droid razr 2.3.6 comes up with what you need.

bootstrap and safestrap
I recently rooted my razr; for the most part to use Setcpu for better battery life. My question is: which is better to use, bootstrap or safestrap when it comes down to flashing a rom? I have seen that safestrap is preferred b/c you can boot into safe mode so if there's an issue with the rom you can revert back.
any help would be appreciated.

In reverse order:
3. You need to be root to remove old boot managers. (use a root file manager to get ride of old apps when rooted - zedomax "Max Lee" in youtube have a nice how-to manually remove those old apps)
2. After re-rooting you'll be able to reinstall CWM, safestrap 2.0, if you wish.
1. Try installing cdma root method, it's the same apps that will be installed anyway, seems to be just a wrong device identification done by the utility you're using.
Thanks

I searched and searched and searched and couldn't find an updated clear answer to my question....
and that question is:
I have a rooted, unlocked tf201 running a custom ROM with the JellyBean bootloader...nvFlash NOT installed...can/how do I return to stock?
I don't want to return the tablet, no damage or anything....I just want to revert to stock (as close to stock) if possible...
I see a few "stock JellyBean" ROMs but I didn't see "JB bootloader" anywhere in the ROMs posts and I would like to wipe the tablet first if possible...then push a custom recovery through fastboot & flash a stock ROM if that is something that would work.
would this be possible without turning the tablet into a worthless POS?
Don't want to flash a ROM with the incorrect bootloader & brick the tablet...if I read correctly nvFlash must be flashed BEFORE a JellyBean bootloader is installed (is that correct?) and it's too late for that...
I saw a "Full Wipe" zip I could possibly flash if that will work for me (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1670824...
please let me know if this is possible and how to do it/where there is a post with instructions...
Thanks!

This rom is stock JB from Asus with a little help from the OP to make it faster. Just follow all instructions in the thread and you'll be fine.
Hey, I need to install AirWatch MTD agent for work to get email/other work stuff on my tab. I'm not sure if all air watch wants us unroot, it is not very specific when it says that it can't finish setup because of my current settings. I think it may even check to make sure you are on a stock rom, so my question is, will the rom on the link provided be "stock" enough to install AirWatch and get my work stuff? I don't feel nearly as bad about taking this TF201 back to stock as I did my GNex since there is a huge difference there and I use my phone way more.
Thanks for any help.
You can always temp unroot your tablet. That should work for your purposes

How do you temp unroot? Is there a way to unroot a rom before flashing it, maybe going in and deleting the su apk from the .zip?

Just do it from within superuser
Sent from my Zio using xda app-developers app
This is not working ... airwatch is super picky. I did the temp unroot in su and then went to settings --> apps and deactivated super user. Airwatch still has my device listed as compromised on the server. I think it wants a stock rom without root. Any ideas?
