Hi guys, I have a gigantic problem, which I hope you can help me with.
I installed the siyah kernel yesterday and ontop the cyanogenmod 9. Phone did not charge over night. To be more precise, my phone ist not charging at all.
Any idea what I can do? Any suggestion that gets my phone running again is welcome. Otherwise I have to run out and purchase a new battery and give it another shot.
Thanks!!!!
pefix
1) CM9 is very much an "experimental"/alpha build. All manners of problems/bugs/issues are to be expected.
2) To the very best of my knowledge Siyah does not work with CM9 because there are no ICS kernel sources available at this time.
Flash stock firmware to get your phone back to square one, then root your phone with a CFRoot kernel, then you can install Siyah. From there, if you're still keen, choose another rom.
CM9 is not for n00bs.
I had used the cyanogen stuff multiple times before... I am not even certain if it is the ROM that is causing the problem.
As I said. The phone just won't charge for some reason... I did follow your suggestion and flashed a stock firmware again and finished. Since about 5 minutes I can't even get into the download mode because the battery is too low.
I don't get it.
Its almost as if the battery is busted.
Oh well... I guess thats the price for stupidity.
Same problem here. I assumed after flashing cm9 all old kernel stuff would be replaced. However if phone is dead the phone will not charge. So I've switched batteries and its not the battery it is the old kernel. Perhaps it messes with the boot loader. Im go
ing to Odin back to stock and hope that will fix it.

I bought a T-Mobile Galaxy S T959. When it turns on, it says "Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000", then the screen changes to "Samsung VIBRANT" I reflashed back to stock using odin, but it still shows the same gt-i9000 boot screen.
Does anyone know how to change it back to normal? So far, I have rooted the device, installed clockwork and flashed to the bionix rom, and installed sgs kernel flasher from the market.
I watched some videos online that showed the kernel boot screen changing after flashing a new kernel through sgs kernel flasher, but I dont know much about kernels or which one needs to be flashed.
Does anyone know what needs to be done, or have any ideas I should try?
Thanks
Well theres nothing wrong with that but it seems like it bothers you so which kernel did u used to odin???
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
This is happening because the phone in the past was flashed with an I9000 based kernel. Eugene I beleive used to make some back before we had Froyo. I also had that bootup screen for a while. I don't have it anymore.
I believe I lost it through one of the many kernel flashes I have done. Just flash some of the latest kernels. It MAY clear this issue for you though it really is not an issue.
It is just the wrong picture stuck in some folder on the phone. There is no harm done to your phone nor is there anything wrong or defective with it. The only thing is that it may bother you. If it does bother you, go on a flashing spree and flash some kernels and roms. I think sooner or later you will get rid of it without even trying when you upgrade your ROM/Kernel.
Thank you, I appreciate your replies.
I bought this phone from someone online, so it was like this when I got it. Therefore I am unsure of which roms/kernels were flashed onto it in the past. I have flashed many roms, but those only seem to change the boot animation. The kernel boot screen is staying the same. Like I said, I dont really know much about kernels.
Would there be one which you recommend I try that might fix it?
I know its not really a problem, but for some reason it just annoys me seeing it say gt-i9000 at startup.
My ultimate goal is to be running the latest build of team whiskey's bionix rom. I have no clue which kernel I should flash or that would work with it.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Try the bullet kernel.
http://edtdev.com/forum/topic/86-kernelbullet-1420ghz-4202011/
It is the fastest kernel for the Vibrant to date (1.42Ghz STABLE on most phones, outstanding battery life, all features and tweaks). It also has a custom boot screen which MAY replace your I9000 one. I'm saying MAY because I am not fully sure. In either case it is either the best or one of the best kernels for this phone to date.
As for ROMs, Team Whiskey quit Vibrant development around late February. They have moved on the the Nexus S and G2X so I'm not sure their latest ROM is the best. It's certainly an amazing ROM but there may be more recent ROMS which have more features or speed. Choice is yours.
You may try flashing some Froyo kernels from Eugene. Since his kernels likely introduced the I9000 boot you have now, flashing newer versions MAY get rid of it...who knows. Alternatively, there is another option if you are SET on getting it out.
If you flash with ODIN and also check repartition, I beleive ODIN will WIPE everything off the phone completely. Yes, all backups...everything will be gone but it should in theory also take that I9000 with it. It's a bit more risky than normal ODIN but the choice is there if you are set on it. Try the other options first and if you decide to do a repartition, READ on how to do it properly first.

Thank you, I tried to flash a few kernels and it seems to me like what you said about the wrong picture being stuck in the phone is what the problem is.
I Re-flashed with Odin and did a re-partition as well, but the image is still there. After rooting and flashing the bullet kernel, it still shows the gt-i9000 screen and then it switches to the bullet screen instead of the vibrant one it used to be.
After trying a few kernels, they all seem to replace the screen after the i9000 kernel screen.
Im going to keep trying to get rid of it, but i wanted to thank you for your response as I am one step further now.
Ah. Dumb-stuck image problem then huh. I thought the kernels would flash it right out. Well...you can ask someone above me about how to get it out.
Go to the EDT dev website. www.edtdev.com and join their IRC. See if a developer there can help you out with getting rid of it.
Also try the Team Whiskey IRC chat. They have more devs and people in their IRC that may be able to help. Their chat is located here:
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=teamwhiskey&uio=d4
I'm sure someone at those IRC chats will help you out.
try flashing the stock "param.lfs" file through odin
Okay I have had this problem and know exactly how to fix it. What happened was whoever had that phone before you flashed an I9000 gingerbread kernel with I9000 gingerbread bootloaders, that's why it shows that every time. Here is what I did to fix it. I don't know if it has to be done this way, this is just how I did it.
Step 1: download both of these files
PDA:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23420259/Eugene_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5
PIT:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23420259/s1_odin_20100512.pit
Step 2: Flash those files through Odin, but make sure you uncheck repartition, as I have read that if you leave it checked while flashing those files you might end up with a hard bricked phone. It will boot straight into recovery after it's finished flashing and will have some errors, that's okay just click reboot system now.
Step 3: Odin back to stock 2.1 like normal.
After you do that and Odin back to stock 2.1 wait like 10 minutes and then flash whatever rom you like. After step 2 though you should be rid of that awful GT-I9000 boot screen. I just Odined back to stock 2.1 to get rid of the broken recovery. I don't think you have to do this.
Let us know if this helped you, so that if it doesn't work someone might have an alternate way to fix it.
Oh also before I forget, I have to give credit where credit is due. Those are files are Eugenes files and I am in no way saying that I developed or had a hand in developing them.
Hi guys,
I've had an S2 for a few months now, and although I've managed to root the phone I'm still pretty green and need help.
I've had an OTA update from Gingerbread to ICS which I only installed as it popped up when I was using the phone.
The battery died earlier than expected and now it's stuck in a bootloop.
I don't want to have to ROM it as frankly I'm still in the "full theory" stage. I've heard of Odin and SamMobile.com, I've seen hours of vids on Youtube but I'm hoping there's another way to get around it. My confidence levels are improving but not there yet.
I have a Titanium backup on the phone from 2.3.4, if I wipe the phone from recovery will it work? Is there anything I can do apart from a new ROM?
If you had my lack of experience with this, what would you do? Thanks.
Can you get into download mode?
If so, you may have to bite the bullet and use Odin to flash the original firmware. You will be able to find it on these forums.
Don't sweat it, just download the Orange ICS ROM and put it in PDA on Odin and flash it, it'll take just a couple of minutes and you are done.
Thanks guys. It sounds so simple when you don't have a bootlocked phone to panic about.

Thats because it is simple! Ive never rooted because it looks confusing. But I've used odin many times to flash stock firmwares.

Nothing confusing about rooting either.
Download one of chainfires cfroot kernels or siyah kernel and flash via Odin.
That's it you're rooted.

if ya have a look around the forum, theres plenty of pre-rooted roms to flash via odin that wont increase ya binary counter, nothing hard about that.

I'm still reletively new to it
and I've had a couple of bootloops. A bit of a panic and then I figured out what I'd done wrong. As long as you follow instructions to the letter you'll be fine.
Edit: *Relatively, damn it.
Rooting it was easy enough. I went to unlockroot.com and a download later I was rooted. It's the ROMs that terrify me.

getting a custom rom isn't something you should be afraid of
getting a custom rom (or kernel) can improve your battery life (some of them).. but just be sure that getting a custom rom, it should be for whatever you're running (Gingerbread or ICS) usually, roms are flashable via CWM
take a leap, when you get into bootloop or get some problems along the process, just flash a stock firmware with odin..
@saywhatt
A mate (who's been doing this for years) has installed CWM7. It's odd how the things I liked about Gingerbread were added by Samsung, not Google.
I suspect I'll run with CWM7 for a week or so and decide then. First impressions aren't always correct (especially if you saw my face!) but after a week I should have a pretty good impression of the new ROM. I'm hesitant about ICS as the official version killed the phone but ultimately I may end up there.
It's good to watch the Youtube vids on how to flash stock ROMs with Odin. It's something I may try next week if CWM7 falls from favour.
Ultimately I'm sort of glad it happened. It's given me new confidence to try these things as I know there's a good chance it can all be recovered.
Q
I've never been too afraid of rooting or flashing. My first android device was a cheap piece of rubbish (an LG GTsomething i think), so I built up confidence in rooting and flashing because I didn't care if i damaged my phone.
I would recommend anyone who's not too confident to go out and get a cheap phone, it's a pretty significant investment but if your unsure about what your doing and just want to experiment, it's definitely worth the peace of mind.

no m8 it didn't, your battery dying while you were updating killed your phone
It had finished a while before that. I was selecting a new font when it died.
You can't stuff up your phone anymore - its already in bootloop, what do you have to lose?
Odin is indeed very easy. Just make sure F.Partition is unchecked. Put the ROM in PDA and flash! Of course, after your phone has been put into download mode and connected to pc via usb and one of the Odin blocks have turned yellow.
Your phone is already rooted? If you made a backup in CWM (NOT Titanium Backup, this won't help you right now, as it's only for apps) you should restore that in CWM. A wipe and factory reset wouldn't help you right bow.
I understand you are a bit skeptic of ICS stock ROM right now, but remember you probably got pushed an early version,.the latest versions are very stable! Though Custom ROM's are the way to go eventually. Try the latest stable Cyanogen ROM.

Good point.
The stock ICS ROM was 4.0.3 if memory serves. It wasn't there for long but I was curious to see which version I'd been upgraded to.
I'm planning to see how this CWM7 ROM sits with me. If I can find out which app is causing this: http://t.co/9GfdXmD I'll probably be happy with it. I need to have a good play about with it to give it a fair chance. May end up with ICS/Stock ICS but for now we'll see how it goes.
Why on earth would you use Cm7 when Cm9 is far better, plus to flash a fw & then root with SuperOneClickRoot, or use the cf root kernel. The whole process takes 5 mins. Honestly M8 there's nothing to worry about. One thing I will say tho, Google Nandroid back up & once you know how to use etc, use it & make it your best friend coz that's the only thing that will fix the bootloop in the future

I didn't. A friend who's been doing this for years did it for me. I was hoping to get something resembling the stock Gingerbread on the phone, instead I got CWM7.
After rooting my phone for the first time about a month ago, I though to myself "This is awesome!". After thinking that, I dug deeper and deeper into the Android Universe and found custom ROMs. The first one I flashed was just a standard 4.0.3 ROM that worked fine. The second one I flashed was a CM10 JB ROM (for my device), and this also worked. But yesterday, (22nd August) I realised that flash player wouldn't work, even though I had the .apk installed on my phone. I found out what dual-booting was when I flashed the CM10 ROM but I didn't need to do it at that time. I downloaded the latest Siyah kernel, flashed it, turned on my phone and it worked fine (CM10) and then I realised I had to go back into recovery mode to change my primary and secondary ROM. I did this, and then next time I tried to turn it on, it just stays on the boot logo. (Siyah logo when I had the SIyah kernel on there and the default SGS2 boot logo with the yellow triangle when I changed back to a plain, old, boring, nothing special kernel). I am currently downloading an OSP file to see if that will help.
That is pretty much all the info I can supply with my knowledge of Android devices but I can try and give some more if needed.
Also, do you think if I took my phone back to **** Sith (Australian retailer where I bought it from) and played dumb (eg. I went to turn it on and the screen just stayed like this, I even left it like that over night and nothing happened) they would give me a new one? I know it voids warranty when you root but maybe if I get someone who doesn't know much about these phones I could get lucky.
Please give me as much help as you can. I haven't told my parents yet because I'm not prepared to face their wrath yet. God knows what they'll do to me!
So your hoping theres someone like you on the other side of the counter when you take the phone back?
Can you get into recovery/download mode lol

Can you still boot to your second Rom ie CM10?
Can you still get to CWM recovery?
If your answer are yes.
-boot to CWM recovery
-flash your Samsung custom ROM again
-wipe dalvik cache
-wipe permissions
-flash Siyah kernel
-reboot phone

Dude, take a chill pill. This is XDA, there are a lot of awesome people here who might know a solution to your problem
Luckily, you are not the only person alive to screw up their flash player while they were on cm.
If you can go to download mode, you can start all over again from scratch by flashing a stock firmware.. and from there, let your custom stuffs begin!cheers

I think I'll stay away from dual booting!

I just purchased a new battery and wall battery charger. now I thought initially it was an issue with my battery being dead, but have two fully charged and still having issues. Issue I am having it when I try to boot it it will get to the s2 splash screen then it just repeats it. And yes I even tried odin to no avail. Same issue still persists. any idea to a solution? It appears I can only access download mode, no recovery, or normal booting.
EDIT: Fixed that issue...now trying to remember how to flash the CWR on it haha
You don't install CWR on our phone, it's included in the custom kernels.
You need figure out which firmware version you're running, such as Gingerbread, Jellybean etc. Then flash a compatible kennel and you'll have the recovery you want.

Hey.
I've been working recently with my brother's AT&T i777 Samsung Galaxy S2. I couldn't root it at first, then i found the note that i777 does not have the bootloader lock, and then i proceeded with installation of CM stable version, step by stop, according to this page:
Install_CM_for_i777 (cannot post links)
So...i downloaded file, renamed it and placed it in my Galaxy S2 internal memory (the same folder where i put files to my Galaxy Nexus).
Phone does not have stock recovery, so i thought about flashing it via Odin after changing file format in Total Commander.
Anyway, i took out battery, placed it in again and...BANG! Phone only boots while on charger or USB cable. I am able to get it into Download mode. That's why i tried to repair it using almost all firmwares (via Odin 1.85), i used Siyah kernel to get it right, and i even flashed the proper bootloader to make it move. On the way, i also flashed some i777 firmwares that were already rooted. No results.
IT ONLY SHOWS THE EMPTY BATTERY SCREEN, FLASHES, AND BACK AGAIN. LOOP.
I would reallly, Reallllly appriciate help.
Thanks!
You've mentioned a lot in your post, some of which isn't very clear to me, so I'm going to ask a few questions in an effort to fully understand where you are. (I'm less worried about how you got there).
The immediate goal will be to get your pone booting into the stock samsung distribution.
We'll cover rooting and custom firmware later.
You are able to get into boot mode (that's a good sign), but are you flashing the stock UCMD8 firmware via desktop Odin?
If no, then flash the stock UCMD8 firmware (see sig)
If yes, when the flash is complete, does the screen show the result: pass?

Thank you for your answer and concern Cyril. But i don't know how (i'm still wondering why) i managed to get it right. In rage, i pushed the battery from the model i9100 (GSM Galaxy S2) and....it BOOTED! The rom and kernel was not right so i flashed already rooted version of firmware 2.3.6 and from that step, when i noticed i had superuser, i installed CM 10.2 stable ROM. During the process of installation of CM 10.2 i had to switch batteries (at most 3 times change battery in order to push phone to recovery and escape bootloop during installation of gapps). Now the phone works well with both batteries and is safe and sound. BUT STILL!!! I wonder why it reacted on the battery from i9100 model? Why this was the factor the phone needed to procede with further modifications? Any ideas? Feed my curiousity, lol.

I've raged on this device a time or three myself, I promise.
The most abnormal part of each of your posts is the battery involvement. You shouldn't have to touch the battery at all for recovery mode, download mode, or flashing, so I would guess that you're up against dirty or failing charge port, a near-dead or failing OEM battery, or similar issue which made your flashing journey more troublesome than it should have been.
There are several posts [like this one] about troubles using i9100 batteries. They fit and function, but exhibit undesirable charging issues, which consequently tend to get blamed on some other aspect of the device.
The symptoms of a dirty or failing charge port also commonly mis-direct users to blame firmware, batteries, and everything-else.
