Hey all. I downloaded Boot Manager through Android Market. I noticed Samsung Fascinate was not supported but I thought what the heck let's try it. Since it's unsupported, I need to put in some variables. Can I get some help with these questions or where to find them. I'm really trying to have a dual boot phone so I can use my normal rom during the work day and test out different roms so I don't ruin my good rom. Thanks all!
What Device Do You Have?
**I put Samsung Fascinate**
What is you sdcardblock?
What is your system's size in mb?
What is your data's size in mb?
What is your cache's size in mb?
Sorry for the double post. I have figured out from some serious digging some of the questions. The only one I have left is "What is your sdcardblock"?
I found that someone else from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190372&page=4 put down this for a different phone: /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 Does this hold true for the fascinate as well? I don't want to screw anything up to bad even though I made a nandroid. Thanks
Working?

Did you ever get this running? I would love to get this on my Fascinate.
Fisrt let me say thank you to all who contribute! Two weeks ago I had no clue this info was available for us common folk. I was given a Nook Tablet for Christmas, researched it's capabilities and found xda. I did successfully root it(thanks to Indirect and the grace of God).It worked majically but I powered down and upon restart I have lost ability to access android market, android keyboard, or TitaniumB Pro. Any help at all would be appriciated greatly!
I went from to in 2.2 seconds...

That most likely means that you got the upgrade to 1.4.1 so you lost root and sideloading. You'll have to go back to stock 1.4.0 then root and block that OTA as much as you can again.

Well that blows lol, I tried to do the ota block with TB, that;s why I paid for it but I guess I didn't do it all the way. I went thru 3 different computors to get the root and ended up having to do it at work so i guess I'll go thru that process again and see what happens. Thank you for your input. I have alot alot to do today but when I get to it I'll relay the outcome.
And btw, all of you here at XDA are AWESOME!
Be sure to check to make sure it is at version 1.4.1 before doing a downgrade.
Right now it still says "unknown" as if it's rooted, does that mean it still is?
Veronica, I know its been a long tike since we used this thread. I gave up on my nook for awhile when I got my new phone but I picked it back up in time to get your CM7 ics ribbon mod. Its been over a month since I did it and its preformed flawlessly! Very pleased and content with it so wanted to say thank you very much, excellent work!

Is it possible to access my internal SD card for storage? I've looked everywhere to find a way to use it but can't find anything so now when I go to download games it won't due to insufficient space. I thought this rom was allowing free access to that sdcard but i could be wrong. Thx!

I've tried to port JoyOS to our Nook Tablets 3 times and I've failed every time with a boot loop. I was just wondering if the Nook Tablet can run it. I also tried different versions of JoyOS. I've ported JoyOS to my HTC Evo Shift and I've also ported it to the HTC Hero CDMA but someone has already posted one. Back to topic , please reply!
~Thank you for your time! =)
The closest you can get to porting anything is from the Kindle Fire or Nook Color. Another problem, if you are porting from a phone, that will DEFINITELY not work due to the screen size.
Thank you so much for replying! My smart self went and did the phone version lol. Thank you a lot, I'll be porting it
I've tried porting it from the Nook Color but no boot logo O_O. Anyone think they can help? Thanks!
I think I may need CM7.2. I don't think regular CM7 will work with JoyOS. I've tried so many things and still failed.
Anyone have any ideas i mean over 200 people have seen this. Anything will help
Hi folks.
This is my first post here. I've been through the "noob's guide" and stuff but to be honest it's all WAY above my head. I'm just not a techy type. Anyway, thing is, I have a Note 717 and Samsung just "updated" it to the new 4.0.4 OS. I loved it before, it was great, but now I've got all kinds of problems and I really want to go back to the old OS if possible. It was working brilliantly before and I wish to heck I'd known what it was going to do when the upgrade notice came up because I'd have hit 'cancel' faster than you can say it. Now it's slow, it crashes, it's lost a bunch of my stuff, yadda yadda.
I understand that I might have to "root" it to reinstall the old OS, but I haven't got a clue where to begin and, to be honest, I'm scared to death of killing an expensive phone.
So anyway I just wondered if there's anyone willing to wet-nurse a complete, green-as-grass newcomer and help me through this process? Be warned first though; I'm really not that great with computers and may ask a lot of very stupid questions. I beg your forbearance.
So anyway if someone could please help me I would be very grateful indeed.
Thanks in advance.
Sandy.
Sandy,
When you did you up rage it probably wipe all you data right?
My first step for you would be to do a factory reset and see if the issue you are experiencing get resoleved.
Do you know how to get to your settings?
If so, look around in there and do a factory reset.
Hi Alperin.
Thanks for getting back to me.

Oddly, my data appears okay. But now the phone's painfully slow and crashes frequently. The new email client is dogs**t, I get a "process has stopped" message every time I power it up, the interface has become user-unfriendly and some of my widgets and apps are missing. It's just RUINED this phone that I was so enjoying having.

I can find that, yes, but I don't want to go erasing all my data, it took me forever to get it all in there. Is there another way of backing it up than sending it to Google?
Thanks!
Sandy.
One of the apps on your Note is called Kies or Kies air. Use this to backup your data.
Then do your factory reset.
Sorry I do not have Kies but if needed I will try to assist.

Thank you again for the ongoing assistance, I really appreciate it!!

Hooray! Kies actually performed the backup flawlessly (that's a new feature in my experience). The only way I can get Kies to work is with an older version, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Doing this for my father in law as we speak. Upgraded to ICS, was too slow. Rooted, Flashed custom ROM, got cold feet. Wants to go back to stock Gingerbread.
If you are with Rogers:

The only extra thing to note in this one is the main ROM file, make sure to unzip it.

I can certainly relate to being hesitant to root your phone and start installing g custom ROMs, I had mine almost 3 months before I did which is a long time on a stock Samsung ROM for me. Try watching some of the tutorial videos on YouTube, they helped me a lot when I started with my Captivate. I particularly like the ones from Mobile Tech Videos but I'm not sure if there are any from them for the Note. Hope you're able to get it sorted out.

Not sure what to tell you. I do not have that on my build.
Is it just a question?
There is another way to do the factory reset. I will try to find it.
---------- Post added at 01:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:45 AM ----------
Ok here is another method.
1) power off the phone.
2) hold down the up and down volume buttons at the same time. And while holding them down press the power button
3) the phone will start and you will feel it vibrate. Release the power button, only the poer button
4). You should be in recovery mode.
5) select to do the wipe data/ factory reset
6) let your phone do it's thing
Set up the phone and see if it runs better.
This is a pain in the ass to type on an iPad.

Thanks for passing that over. I'm going to give it a try. Do you know if this will restore it to the Android 2.3.6 or did the update fundamentally alter the phone so that it's always going to be 4.0.4? Holy cow I really hope it comes up 2.3.6!!!
I'll let you know what happens post-reset. Thanks again for all your help.
Cheers,
Sandy.
This will keep ICS but put it back to the all default setting and remove all apps that are not part of the upgrade package you installed.
Let's see how this works for you before going back to GB.

Okay I did that and it worked. Thanks for the instructions. However, as I feared it came back with the dreaded 4.0.4. But, this being said, my data and stuff is all backed up, so I feel a bit more ready to proceed.
Now... how do I get the wonderful 2.3.6 back on it please?
Thanks again!!!

Right I think I've got the hang of the names... ICS is version 4.0.4 and GB is 2.3.6 right? Forgive me if this seems elementary to you - but its all new to me!
I don't want to sound like a Luddite but there's so much I dislike about ICS that I really want to go back to GB. The functionality was way better, the phone was faster, it didn't crash, it performed like I expected it to, the interface made sense... and so on. So I'm eager to get started on transitioning back to the former OS. I don't know how busy everyone here is, but I'm going to take the USB cable to work and maybe I can get into it there. I pretty much just answer the phone these days, so I won't get into trouble, don't worry!
THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!
Sandy.
A factory ROM and fast be it GB or ICS don't belong in the same sentace.. if you tried a nice vanilla ROM such as CM9 you might be surprised what a fast phone really is.
Sandy, stock roms tend to be full of bloat software that will reduce the performance of any phone. Gb as you say worked better because is a more mature os than ics. So if you decide to root your phone make sure to try a custom ics rom which may be fast and stable and your phone will stay on game with the newer stuff instead of using an older os.

Thanks guys, I very much appreciate your responses, input and suggestions. I'm sure that it's all good stuff, but I really just want 2.3.6 back. Whilst all this custom stuff sounds interesting (and is, I'm sure, great fun for you clever whizzes that understand it) my plea is a relatively simple one; I just want my phone back the way it was!
But, again, I really do appreciate your input, thanks!

It hasn't crashed since the reset and restore that I did 1½ hours ago, but it hasn't done anything else either (well, except turn on the GPS without asking me haha). No email, no calls, no texts - and that's very unusual because I normally get a lot of those throughout the day. I hope it's not indicative of a problem, but I understand that it's a work-in-progress.
Slight update: The Wi-Fi is working, that's a good thing.
Thanks again!

I'm afraid the only way to revert back to GB is more technical than a simple factory reset and involves using Odin to flash back.

I've bricked my nook PLENTY of times. There's always a way to get it back. Try charging it through a computer overnight (NOT through the wall) and see if that does anything. If that doesn't work, have you looked at all the unbrick guides here? It should be fixable.
As a last resort, I could e-mail you and you could send it to me and I'll try to work my magic on it. Assuming I get it fixed, you should get it in a couple weeks (as long as you cover the return shipping cost).
But before any of that, just go through all the unbrick guides here. One of them is BOUND to work. I personally recommend this thread here:

Sorry, I'm just frustrated. And yes, I would love to be the one that fixes it. I've been modding my phones for years and just did my Samsung Tab 3 7.0. I'm addicted. The Nook is my nemesis....!
I'd rather you give it a shot first! I erased my ROM partition from clockworkmod and had to use the factory partition to fix it. You'll have to use ADB to fix it but it should be VERY easy to fix. Just copy and paste somebody's factory partition on to your nook and you should be good to go. You may have to edit a file in there and input your nook's serial number (located on the back of the microsd flap). The feeling you'll get after you fix it yourself is a GREAT feeling!

Sounds easy enough, Where can I get the rom and instructions? I'm totally willing but need guidance. Believe me, I have tried what I thought was everything and always knew that what your'e telling me is what I needed to do but was unable to get what I needed. Frustrating to say the least. I really do appreciate everyone's help. You have my email or the web, I will take in all that you have to show me, such as....."where to go to get what I need" What is the difference between "the factory partition" and "somebody's factory partition" or is it one and the same? And for the life of me, I could never get the nook to show up on my desktop or notebook while in CWM. I can sit here and whine all night but I wont.... I will look, read , search and try again and keep you posted as to what happens. If you have any good links, shoot them to me in an email please..... Next time I post, It will be to say I have trashed it or fixed it, preferably the latter. Peace people and thanks.
Do you remember flashing the 10-point touch firmware? If you never flashed it, then go to the following link, download one of the stock recoveries from one her file host sites, and then do the 8 times failed reboot thing (when it's attempting to boot up, hold down the power and home button to force shut it off; do it 8 times maybe more if it doesn't work) and then it will restore it back to factory.
