[Q] wifi signal always low - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my Fascinate I my wifi experience hasn't been the best. It drops out in my room whereas my iPod touch 4 has no problems. And I almost always just get 1 bar, more if fairly close to the router.
Is anyone else having low wifi signal their fascinate?
Could it have anything to do with my ROM? It's JT's vanilla GB

fascinates have crappy radios. I took my first one back because I thought the wifi was broken, only to get the new one home and find out that it was only marginally better.

I agree. I'm using CM7 nightly 112 with EH03 radio and I be 15-20 ft away unblocked for the signal and not have full bars. However, I was able to get 1.89Mbps with 3G whereas I only got around 1.2Mbps on the EC09 radio. I thought it may improve the wifi which is why I tried it but aparently no dice.

okay, thanks guys.. At least it's not just me. so is it just the fascinate, or do all Galaxy S have bad radios?

Which Radio?

I am currently running the Evil Fascinate 3.6 Rom. With the official ED04 radio. Really havent had many missed calls issues but seem to not get the best signal and seem to lose gps location sometimes. Anyone recommend a better radio i should flash through ODIN to help for that and maybe anything else?
That's my golden question too... I have tried every modem from ec01 to ed04 (and all versions in between) and now ec09. I seem to miss about 1 or 2 calls a week on all of them with the same data and gps performance. So, for my phone, there doesn't appear to be any noticeable differences. But when you look around you will notice some people getting differing results.
I suggest giving each modem a test drive to see how your phone reacts. Good luck

[Q] Better Connections with BAMF than CM7!!??

Hi all,
I've been running CM7 on my TB for quite some time and absolutely love it. However, I decided to try BAMF Forever and immediately noticed better connectivity and a stronger signal after loading the ROM. BAMF is a great ROM, but I much prefer the functionality of CM7, except for the apparent strength of the signals. Both ROMs are running the same base band (1.48.00.0906w_1,0.01.78.0906w_2). It's definitely not my imagination. With CM7 I often get no signal inside my office and if I do, it tends to only be one bar. With BAMF I'm getting 4 bars and none of the connectivity issues associated with my CM7 ROM.
Is there a radio that's known to be a better match with CM7?
Thanks in advance.

Do Kernals affect signal and 4G/3G

I was just wondering, Ive ran a couple different ROMS lately based on the newest leak and it seems that my 4G signal is not as good. I see 3g more it seems to even get stuck in 3g for periods of time for no apparent reason and doesn't seem to change as fast.
Now with the current ROM I'm running its a bit better, but still I'm on 3g where I got 4g before. I was just wondering if a different kernel would have any effect on this. Im not really sure it would because the kernel controls the processor and battery, stuff like that doesn't it? Radios control signal. Im wondering if the issue may be 3g/4g switching though and not an actual issue with signal.
I'm really not sure about any of it

The kernel shouldn't make a difference. Did you upgrade your radios to the latest leak?
I have this problem with the latest leak radios. I actually went back to gb radios because of it.
On the past few ics leaks I spent more time in 3g than anything.

Modem For ICS

I am run running AOKP Milestone 6 with the Devil Kernel. I switched from the stock modem to EC09 because all I hear are good things about the modem. My signal strength actually decreased from -91 to -93. What other Modems are there that I should try. My 3G was really slow with the stock modem, so I am looking for the fastest speed.

Droidstyle's guide (which you may have used) listed the modems he recommended the most (EH03, EC09, and I don't remember the other). I believe your choices might be somewhat limited by the network your on (Verizon vs. someone else), but I could be wrong.
From what I understand the EH03 (stock GB) is the fastest, so if you're not getting good speed it could be just the network like Aesrys already pointed out. Just try them all and see if any show improvement for you, if they don't then it's probably just your area. Also, have you updated roaming lately? Try *22891 which when dialed will download an updated roaming list to your phone, possibly providing better reception. When I did it I actually noticed a better signal at my house. Not sure if it'll help data too, but hey worth a shot.
I'm currently EC09 which i was running back on eclair ,,, and i also tried EH03 too,,, i actually never ran any gb roms,,, went straight to ics,,, and tried both EH03 & EC09 and the building i work in (a real tin can) just kills signal... It does seem to be very slightly better on jb roms but i finally got a decent wifi router so I'm real happy with that,,, ,,,anywhere else outside of work i get good enough 3g signal too do all i want to do...
I could and can navigate w/Google maps great,,, surf web/twitter/fb,,,etc on 3g during lunch
Before jellybean I was considering greeting a newer Samsung phone in hopes of a better 3g signal,,, but I'm glad i upgraded to jb and wifi..:thumbup:

[Q] Horrible WiFi Range

I'm running Liquid's most recent AOSP ICS ROM with .19 radios. Using 4EXT, did a full wipe before flashing the ROM.
The range on the tbolt for Wifi is legitimately 10-15 feet. I get 2 bars when I am standing next to (~2ft away) the router, and if I leave the room that the router is in, I lose signal immediately. This is the case with all networks, not only the one in my house.
I had previously been running Thundershed until about 2 weeks ago, and the wifi was fine and worked throughout the house and in other locations, but when I flashed Liquid's ROM it got worse. I reflashed Tshed to see if it was a ROM thing and the wifi range was just as bad with the old ROM, so this leads me to believe it's something that got changed somewhere, or maybe I need to do another full wipe and re-flash.
Thoughts?
I can go from one end of my house to the other and almost to the back of my yard and still have wifi. This is probably a range of over 50ft or more and through brick and I still stay locked on to wifi.

Maybe the radios you have installed? That sounds strange. I have crap WiFi single as well, but not as bad as your describing it. My WiFi (which on other phones such as my dads Razr) on other devices get full bars. I get maybe 1 - 2 at the most - bars and drops every couple minutes... It's pretty bad. This is why we need an OTA release asap!
I just reread your post and it almost sounds like it could be an issue with the router you use. Since you changed roms and it still doesn't change the signal it could also be you phone but who knows. I can tell you that with liquid ics my signal isn't quite as good as it should be but it still gets good range.

why would I be getting issues with any router if it's the one I'm using? I'll test one or two more tomorrow, but I think that this is something other than a router issue.
Try a different radio.

Could be your phone too though and like I said I show low signal on liquid ics too but I still keep a good connection even from over 50ft away from my router.

I was previously running the leaked radios and it wasn't better, but I'm going to try reflashing to see if there is any change.

I wish this was the case, but I definitely lose the connection fully, it's not just the icon :/

Just try different ones, see if there's any improvement.
