I have tried multiple times to install the USB drivers for my Optimus T (LGP509TN) running CyanogenMod 7.1 (6.5.8). I've tried installing, uninstalling - tried using the LGmobile agent to install... 5 of the 7 install fine but the LGE Android Platform USB modem and the USB Mass Storage Device fail. (see attached image called "usb installation")
When I turn on USB tethering, another USB installation routine runs and fails. (see attached image called "after turning on USB tethering". In Device Manager, I get a bunch of exclamation marks. (see attached image called "Device Manager".
USB storage actually will work - but takes a long time to kick in - and often crashes. Same with USB tethering. I've tried numerous different USB cables so that's not an issue.
Although I have an LGP509TN, I'm not sure if I should be installing LG509 drivers or LGP500 (as I'm running CyanogenMod 7.1 for LGP500). I'm not sure if there actually is a difference between the two. I've tried both and get the same issue.
Any direction would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
Hi ,
I am also finding same problem. installed cyanogenmod
I took back up in ROm manager but not in recovery mod.
LGE android USB Modem fails to install.
Rest things are installing and working fine.
Help me out if you have found the soultion.
For you what i suggest is.
1. uninstall LG united drivers through control panel.
2. Re install it and turn on USB Debugging mode in your phone and connect it.
Everything will get installed. But not sure of LGE Android USB MOdem. IF you get soultion let me know even
I've tried everything that's been suggested. I've tried many different versions of drivers. Uninstalled, reinstalled.... Sometimes I'm even getting the Blue Screen of Death on my laptop when trying to connect the phone using USB. Wireless tether continues to work flawlessly. It's simply the USB connection that doesn't seem to want to cooperate.
I'm starting to think it might be a hardware issue - except that everything else with the phone works perfectly. I'm also going to buy a couple of new USB cables to try to determine if it might be a faulty cable.
1. Turn on USB Debugging mode
2. Connect USB
3. Then drivers stopped installing, turn off USB Debugging mode, but do not disconnect usb cable.
4. It will install some drivers and says all OK
5. Turn on USB Debugging mode (do not disconnect usb cable), and all drivers will be installed.
This is my method, and it worked for me.
Thanks for the instructions. The challenge I face is that the 2 devices never complete. (See screenshot.) If I close the dialogue, it tells me of the failure. When I switch on USB Debugging, it doesn't connect.

Experiencing similar problems with getting the USB drivers required for native tethering installed successfully. Running Windows 7. A walkthrough of clearing any existing drivers then reinstalling the proper ones might help. I've tried uninstalling via the control panel, system, devices area, but a complete purge/deletion of the drivers might be needed. Any pointers to a proven way to do so would be appreciated.
dude this happens to me week ago
first tell me are you running .32 kernals ??
if yes then flash it once aganin
or use .35 kernals it's best for cm7 series

I can no longer connect my Vibrant to my PC (it doesn't pick it up). I could try using another kernel but I can't use Odin to flash to...obviously. : /
Solutions?
i am having the same exact issue. this is the second time this has happend. the first time was during the dead horse test kernels which is what i believed to have been the cause when there were mount issues going around. a warrenty exchange was done and now that this has happend again, i am beginning to think this is due to hardware failure of the phones usb port, even though the phone still charges. suggestions are openly welcomed. have tried...
swapping usb cables
switching usb ports
different computer
flashed back to latest bionix (mount & odin was working fine)
flashed back to older overstock kernel 1.4.2 (when working fine)
rebooting phone while usb connected to pc
enabling / disabling usb debugging
possible cause may be not safely removing hardware from pc? but if that was the case, i would think curruption of the sdcard(s) would have happend.
Install the Nexus S USB drivers
Thanks I'll try that when I get home from work.

Where did you get the nexus S drivers? I'm having a hard time looking for it.
Just search Nexus S USB driver. Should be the first link. Download is on the top left bar. (be sure to run the SDK manager as admin on windows 7 or it won't download the driver)
After I flashed the new kernel on my phone I plugged it into my PC but windows couldn't assign the driver automatically so I had manually add the location.
C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
So when i try to connect my galaxy to the computer nothing happens. i plug it in and it will start to charge but the phone will not have recognized the fact that it is connected to the computer and the computer doesnt even say "unrecognized device" how do i get the phone and omputer to recognize each other?
Did you install drivers for the phone? What operating system are you on?
yes i have. ive tried both osx and windows 7 and i have made sure to download teh drivers for each
Have you tried to connect it in usb debugging mode? (goto settings, applications, devlopment, check debugging mode?
(I dont know of it will help, but it would be the next thing I would try)
And try different usb ports. I have heard before that it can help.
yeah ive tried all of that it and still nothing, the switching usb ports too
Did you restart the computer after you installed drivers?
I would try installing Samsung Kies (from samsung website, GS2 support page). It also installs drivers and fixed a problem I had with connection.
If all these don't work, I don't know what to tell you. Sorry. I am sure someone here with more experience will be able to help.
yeah haha ive done all of these unfortunately and still nothing, thank you for you suggestions though
Kies had an update within the hour of New years (Pacific).
I discovered this morning that USB debugging mode MUST BE OFF for Kies to recognize and connect to the phone. I'm currently backing up my device in this mode right now.
"Kies Air" also works well, without having to worry about any USB issues.
"Droid Explorer" connects fine with debugging turned on. I have to wait until backup is complete to see if it works with debugging turned off.
I'm having USB port issues right now, so your mileage may vary.
Hope this helps.
Hi, I have a Galaxy Player 4.0 that I rooted with SuperOneClick. It was working fine at first then a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my PC no longer recognizes it as a device, it just charges when I plug it in. So, I looked around andn tried a few things:
Restarted it several times
Tried with all the different modes in USB settings
Tried with different cable
Tried with two other computers, a Mac Mini and a Win7 laptop
Tried to unroot, couldn't get that to work
Did a factory data reset
Nothing works. I can't remember anything I did since rooting that would cause this, except I installed the Samsung Kies driver on the PC. I can't remember if the USB mass storage was working after Kies. Does anyone have other ideas?
Bump. This is rather a big deal, as I cannot transfer files between my PC and Galaxy player in any way other than over WiFi, which does not work reliably. I don't have a microSD card adapter either.
You might want to check if anything related to samsung/android appears in the device manager. Alternatively, to use heimdall I use Zadig to switch from samsung's driver to libusb but it does show you everything connected to your computer via usb when you check the option to list all devices. You should try this with and without usb debuging enabled. If nothing shows up you know it id your player that is at fault.

Thanks,
The first time I plugged it in without USB debugging enabled nothing showed up, when I enabled USB debugging, in Zadig and Device manager there showed up an unknown device, trying to update driver in Device manager showed that it already had the best driver, and in zadig driver replacement failed. Now, when I plug it in, either with or without USB debugging enabled, nothing shows up anywhere. I have tried with other computers and other cables, and nothing works, so I am pretty sure it's the player. I am willing to to a complete factory system reset, but I don't know how.

I'm having the same problem with my rooted 5.0. Although it's not a huge problem for me (I use dropbox for file syncing) I would love to sort this out, let me know if your factory reset works!
You can find it in the Privacy section of the settings menu.

I suspect you have a faulty usb connector on your device, but it doesn't hurt to do a factory reset. But you might want to backup your data first Did you try to jerk the usb cable in your player? A loose/broken connector would explain all your problems. Even if it is a software problem, I can't see how to flash your device with the original firmware since you don't have a sdcard & usb doesn't work...
Btw, I was referring to zadig only to show the devices attached to your computer, not to change the driver!

Thanks, I only tried to change the driver because it showed no driver already installed. I have a bit of electronics background so I may crack it open and take a look at the connector. I already tried the factory reset in the privacy menu, but that only wipes data apparently, not the system. I do have an sd card, I just don't have an adapter to the PC.
EDIT: After wiggling the cable around a bit, it showed the USB icon in the status bar, so I clicked connect USB mass storage, but the computer still showed a badly installed driver and then after some more wiggling the icon disappeared, so I am pretty sure it's a problem with the connector. BTW, how would I flash the stock firmware to unroot?
I plug my phone into a USB port.
The first time I did so, an AutoPlay window pops up prompting me to run LGAutoRun.exe. I click to do so.
The LG United Drivers are installed onto my computer great.
But then an AutoPlay window pops up prompting me to run LGAutoRun.exe. I click to do so.
My computer attempts to install MTP USB Driver, but fails. According to Windows, the device is unplugged.
The AutoPlay window reappears. Repeat from the beginning of the paragraph.
What have I done to deserve such trouble, LG?!?!
Apparently the drivers installed directly from phone are not enough. In any case, I was observing similar behaviour *until* I installed LG PC Suite (which you should have been prompted to do too). It's stupid, it sucks but again, it's LG.
Install the LG drivers first. After that, when you plug your phone, it will be recognised as an mtp device.
Have you got Windows Media Player installed?

Plug the phone, go to device manager in windows and uninstall the driver for the phone( or whatever shows up with the yellow triangle). Then unplug the phone and connect it back again. It should work. If not, uninstall the lg drivers and clean every trace of them and start from the begining.

Tried uninstalling the LG U2 USB Driver, then disconnected and reconnected phone. Same problem. LG U2 USB Driver was installed but MTP USB still shows up as unplugged.
Then uninstalled LG PC Suite and LG United Mobile Driver, reinstalled LG PC Suite and reconnected phone. Problem still occurs. I run LGAutoRun.exe and United Mobile Drivers are installed. Same problem. MTP USB shows up as "device unplugged" and phone keeps disconnecting and reconnecting to computer, saying drivers were not properly installed due to MTP USB being unplugged.
Interesting to note the phone is listed as a CD-ROM drive.

Install the software from the CD image. It will load the correct driver. After this re-connect the device and the CD image will show up for a few seconds and disappear. After this the storage will show up. That is how it worked on my device.

I have already tried what you said as I posted before. The LG United Mobile driver gets installed but the MTP USB Driver does not get installed due to the device being unplugged according to Windows, even though I have yet to disconnect the phone from the computer. The phone still says "Connected as an installer".
The phone is recognized as an F: Drive by Windows but LGE Mobile but keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 20 seconds or so.
I am going to have to upload a video to YouTube to make things crystal clear.

Try a different USB port or cable. My P769 would not work on my USB 3 ports, but was happy on the USB 2 port. I had already installed the drivers and LG PC Suite and it picked up each mode just fine.
Plugging the phone into USB 2.0 makes the phone show up in portable devices, but LG Suite fails to identify the phone. I tried using both LGE Android Net MTP USB Device and MTP USB Device but they both fail. I have LG United Drivers and LG Suite installed already.
got thesame problem here mate..i search all over here and google the driver but still cant find any solution..this is so frustrating to fix this issue,,got install and uninstall the pc suite and driver many times but still cant get the solution..so what could be the fix????
no one can suggest..someone told me that maybe its causing the broken data cable but i have 3 cables now..
everytime i intend to install the MTP driver thing my pc always failed to do so,,saying that the filename, directory name or syntax label is incorrect..but i manually direct the search to lg driver folder but same error occurs..or there still other alternative apps that can transfer files without removing my sd to my phone,or atleast transfer files over the wifi..??
Any fix for this one? Already tried uninstalling, installing LG drivers, removed and reinserted SD card and everything. But still to no avail. It installs everything successfully EXCEPT USB MTP device which is the one I needed the most. Any solutions? Thanks!

You must be on 64 bit windows. Not even on 64bit, Still try this...
1) Uninstall LG Drivers, LG PC Suite and anything you see named LG. Restart PC.
2) Install latest LG Driver from this post (step 4)
3) Install Optional MTP Driver from this post (step 4)
4) Open Windows Device Manager (just to watch whats happening.)
5) Disconnect Internet (To avoid stupid online WDM drivers)
6) Connect phone with Usb and let drivers install automatically. Give it some time to install drivers keeping watch on Device Manager window.
7) Keep changing USB connect modes to all modes one-by-one on Phone and let drivers install.
You should see MTP drivers installed now. If this does not help, cant think of anything else. If this works, press THANKS button
EDIT: Connect USB at backside of pc, directly to USB on pc motherboard.

Need:
1. LG USB cable that came with the phone,
2. Media Player 10/11 preinstalled,
3. your LG Driver,
3. LG Phone,
4. and Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit (mtppk12.exe)
1. with phone disconnected install Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit
2. when asked to restart the PC, go ahead and restart
3. open device manager, connect phone to PC
4. install driver and watch LGE Android MTP disappear
5. be sure to toggle between Charge and MTP on the phone to install all drivers
this also works for HTC MTP
Hello xda users,
I'm having a really strange problem. When copying files from my PC to my phone (be it the internal storage or the SD card) the window that shows the transfer process just hangs and nothing happens. Example: see transferhang.png from attachments (sorry, can't post links yet)
After leaving it "copy" for a while I get this error:
see cannotcopy.png from attachments. (The error says: Cannot copy item: the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.)
I am running Windows 7. My Galaxy SII is rooted and I am running the MIUI rom. I have searched around and have found no working solution.
However, if I change the USB port from the front of the PC (USB 2.0) to the back (USB 3.0) I can transfer small files like photos but larger ones (like 150MB for example) hang up.
Copying files from the phone to the PC, however, works. I find this whole thing really strange.
If anyone has any idea as to how to fix this please tell me.

Haven't tried another cable, don't have one.
Did you face the same problem before the MIUI rom? Sometimes the ROM could cause the problem

Running stock android (4.1.2) I did not experience the same problems, but I had other issues.
While on stock 4.1.2 my computer couldn't detect my device for some reason. It always failed to install the drivers and the "Troubleshoot connection issue" option in Kies did nothing. Every time I connected my device to the PC I got a "Device not recognized..." pop-up. I was able to get my PC to detect the phone but I had to do really strange things (strange as in I have no clue why it works) and it didn't always work.
What I did to get my PC to connect to my phone was:
1. Open settings
2. Go to USB options
3. Choose "Mount USB storage" (most likely not worded this way)
4. Connect my phone to the PC
5. Get a "Device not recognized" error
6. Go to developer options -> Enable USB debugging
7. Boom, it works. (but as I said not 100% of the time)
While doing all of this I had Kies running, otherwise the method doesn't yield anything.
I tried just enabling USB debugging and connecting the phone, but it didn't work that way. For some reason the only way to get it working was to mount the USB storage and enable USB debugging after that, all the while running Kies on my PC.

Currrently Im using Neat ROM for my GS2. I have kies totally uninstalled. I plugin my phone to the pc and it recogonized it. I have the USB debuggin set on. You can try to install another ROM tho, and make a full wip etc. I cant tell u that getting a new ROM will 100% solve your problem, but you can give it a try tho.
/Amiroslo
I have tried doing a full wipe and it doesn't help.
The only roms I have tried are stock 4.1.2 and MIUI.
I can't tell whether it's a Windows problem or a problem with my phone.
Try new stuff
Either
Try a new Rom, stock or aosp or aokp
update your usb drivers, just google and you will find the new one
Got a new cable. Worked.
