Htc has made numerous statements that it will review the bootloader policy but as mentioned in many text we all know that just spin, I say we boycott HTC and dont buy on launch day unless the lock is down
Dear sir, I see this is your first post and I welcome you to the site, but how many of these threads do we really need?
Unfortunately, even if this entire website were to buy a EVO 3D, it would not even make a dent in the amount of profits they will get on launch. Everyone wants a 3D phone, most people don't know about rooting phones.
im not new to the site been around for 6 years under three names i keep forgetting my old passwords and i dont have access to the old email on file but my post is for boycotting upon release date not just making a statement but rather not purchasing until a fix is present
HTC doesn't really give a flying **** about our *****ing. If all of us who were previously considering the Evo 3d don't buy it, HTC wouldn't care. We are the minority, the mainstream people who don't know what root means will continue to buy It regardless.
From my Gingerbread Hero.
Htc better care, who do you think makes all of the apps that are the reason why ios and android are what they are today? If they're not smart enough to care today then they'll start caring a few months from now when all of the 3D apps are designed for the optimus and the E3D is irrelevant.
Theyre already one of the last out the gate with dual cores

That is correct. But who do the majority come to when deciding which phone to buy? The geeks. Imagine if engadget, phonedog, cnet, etc... were to give the EVO 3D bad reviews? Can you imagine what the comments will say in those articles? Even if we can't make a direct impact with our own sales, we influence the minds of many of those people that are not as tech savvy as us. My whole family has HTC phones cause of me. That will soon change. I am sure we can have a very powerful impact.

Still could have fit in with the other threads. Just saying - not trying to be a jerk or anything.
Honestly it's tough to follow so many threads and the numbers keep growing. Somebody should just merge them lol.

Not true. We are the enthusiasts who shape consumer sentiment. This news has made it to all sorts of popular blogs recently. Even a friend of mine who rarely reads tech blogs stumbled across the news. My fiancee won't even think of buying it anymore obviously because I won't -- and I'll recommend other phones to her, my friends, and my family.
That's already ~10 devices for one pointless random person -- me. I know the effect isn't as dramatic for some others, but what we show off, what we brag about, what we get excited for and lust over... is highly contagious. The legendary HD2 didn't merely sell because of its "awesome features." It's still moderately (shockingly) popular today among enthusiasts and is happily sold and traded online -- because of the community.
Even if it's just a placebo effect for the masses (who won't ever know what "flashing" could possibly mean), placebo effect and public sentiment is one of the biggest influences the advertizing world has ever known.
Now the clincher -- many people besides the forum-goers here look to HTC as an alternative to Apple out of principle (or bad experience). They need just ask one enthusiast or read one of the many popular tech sites now posting this news to know that they shouldn't buy the device. How? They'll just read that it's "locked, unopened, encrypted, spurned by uber-geeks" just as the Apple product was.
Don't underestimate our power. Use it. Such social gathering and protest won revolts in random middle eastern countries. It even won a partial concession from Motorola and its formerly horrific bootloader policy. It's powerful, and it works. Vote now (link in sig, takes seconds) and/or contact HTC. Better yet, have your friends do the same. Welcome to Web 2.0 power, people.

Actually, with the amount of discussion on the bootloader it might even make sense to have another subforum for it! Lots of useful content but it's all split between threads.
we need time to assess
Just tweeted this - not really any different than the others but still
@HTC - Say no to locked bootloaders and say yes to open development. #EVO3D - #Sprint - #youlockwewalk
Let's also get Sprint's attention! I just posted a thread on there. Respond or start your own. The more attention the better. I am sure Sprint is in on this also.
http://community.sprint.com/baw/comm...ew=discussions
I disagree with you completely. The N64 emulator and the 3D capability of the EVO 3d alone would attract so many people, its like a phone and a 3DS. We are a minority, we may be able to convince other people to not buy it, but a 3D phone is attractive to the masses sort of like an iPhone is.
it is still a damn good phone with gingerbread and sense 3.0, people wouldn't give a damn about locked bootloader, ask 10 of my friends and they probably wont know what the hell a locked bootloader is. Even if it is a locked bootloader there is always a way around.

wrong, you should really take a proactive approach to this and tell your friends about the locked boot loader. Second, yes there is a way around LOCKED BOOTLOADERS, but not an encrypted hboot, recovery AND kernel. With those being encrypted, we are essentially screwed.

Lol i say on htcs sites and email that i will not be gettin the evo 3d bc of this to try and change there mind . But really who thinks its gonna help ? Sprint and other carriers have a roll in this to they dont want you to be able to get hot spot free anymore,
Im gonna get thr evo 3d for the phone itself
No matter if they change it or not , the evo 3d is the bEst phone coming out soon its htc , htc has the best build quality other then apple and i hate apple
But you people or can say ur gettin samsung or lg can go ahead i will wait 6 months for a full root with a leaked eng bootloader half root wont hurt untill then . What will hurt is u people going to samsung or lg and couple months down the road ur phone falls apart i would rather a great phone then a phone with a unlocked bootloader
We will get full root, some how, some way. If htc does it the way that sony is (they unlock, flag as voided), I'm sure we will find a way to use that and unlock that biotch.

Came from a friend on another forum:
The bootloader will be unlocked, it's just a matter of when; we're trying to get it ready to release and hope to have this soon. Our official announcements, since this is a priority situation, will go directly to our social media outlets when they're ready (like the previous announcements). You'll hear about it when I do. I do hope that it is soon for you.

I don't see any evidence that their definition of soon matches with my definition of soon...it is a relative term, after all.
I'm going err on the side of caution, unfortunately. They have 2 weeks.
Regardless of time frame, we are all at the mercy of HTC sadly enough

I realize when the date is.
Everyone is rather impatient here. I understand it, but It is not like a company can output a perfect unlocked everything for a phone overnight without bricking a large number of them. It takes time.
I apologize for the repeat thread. Half these threads present have people up in arms and intending to return the phone. So I posted a new thread in hopes of lighting up the mood.

I would imagine it has more to do with appeasing partners (read: Sprint) than it has to do with technical hurdles...though I'm sure there is still a redundantly redundant amount of testing involved. Most of it is probably policy and politics than anything else.

Thats not how they are going to do it simple as that. I asked given xHausx suggested they just post up a firmware.zip on their site for those that wish to flash and get the ENG bootloader flashed and achieve s-off. Their response was that "...that is not the way they choose to fix the problem, and they will do so with a OTA software update.."
end of story is that it WILL get done, but there is no ETA as they NEVER provide ETA's specifically. And they do this b/c there is no telling what problems might arrise while developing the fix. If they said 2weeks and ran into an issue and got delayed then there would be another uproar tossed at them.
Also why when they say they are releasing a new OS update they usually say by the end of X qtr. so they have a TON of leway.

If teamwin does it great. However I would be very surprised if there weren't strings attached to HTC's solution and no thanks to that. If the SGS2 would be announced for a pre-September release date the 3D is going back.

Well, in if that happens in 2 months from now you and the 3 remaining devs will have a blast I'm sure. This technology moves way too fast for delays like this. The first 30 days is a given, return period, time to root, etc...but this time we are up against heavy duty security for heavy duty securities sake.
While I do exaggerate a bit my point remains. We don't have time to wait as much as you think we do...developers want to develop, and when they put a commitment into a device, well, not being able to develop a god damned thing for that device is kinda a turn off. Few of our best ROM developers are also the low-level guys doing the heavy lifting and intense probing and testing required to attain root/s-off...there is an overlap, yes, but most of these guys just want to make a rom or work on a kernel, and that is to say nothing of the theme guys who operate as creative talent before technical talent...
This is an elaborate ecosystem of skills and talents here. If you happened to be one of us lucky ones in the EVO4G community from the beginning you should know that it was a bunch of coincidence and a pre-release root (and the happenstance of Sprint getting its first kickass superphone--now a regular event)...so don't expect that magic to sit around waiting for this phone to be opened up.
I'm not saying it can't happen, but that there were a lot of factors that went into it happening last time--just having a decent phone and a forum weren't what made it happen.
Let me start by saying yes, I am dying to have root myself. I miss cm7, wireless tether, even stock themes, tb, and a whole list of things (my ORD is definitely flaring).
Now let me go on to my real point. All you "omg they have two weeks" people... Is the phone really that unusable as it is? My old hero, I couldn't live without root for overclocking. My shift originally ticked me off with crappy old sense, and then I didn't understand why they didn't make the new update sense 3.0. This phone, at least for now, is up to date, and blazing fast. Root is not a deal breaker on this phone for me like my past phones. And I hack everything... Wii, cr48, router... But I don't find it completely neutering on this phone like other devices

It's a very capable phone, I agree. But it has far more potential than it has capability...and I didn't buy this phone to only be as capable as the phone it was replacing (a heavily modded EVO4G) with the only difference that I can actually see is a resolution difference.
Sure, we knew it would come locked. I knew I'd have this decision to make. It's a very capable phone. But it is also capable of so much more...that's what I want out of it. My 4G was doing everything at least as fast and with at least as good battery life with far more flexibility...
...the only reason I am so impatient is for the reason I posted above. If it doesn't happen relatively quickly the spark will fade rapidly. I feel very comfortable in the 30-day window. But as the 30 day window closes I am not going to be the only one who sizes up this situation and has to make a decision...more important than me and you and all of the other users there are the developers. The ones who provide the value-adding goodies that we love so much...without them we just have a phone like a million other phones, excuse me, that takes 3D pictures and/or Video...the only differentiating feature really....sure, HTC didn't sell a device that was intended to do the things I want to do with it--but it could...until they made it so it couldn't specifically...artificially...
You might not get it...if that's the case, congrats, this is the phone for you. No regrets. Rock on. But for me and what I would imagine are the majority of others here that is a deal breaker.....
@daneurysm: very, very well stated. I'm with you 100%
my email exchanges...
I have purchased your mogul, evo, and now evo3d. I would like to say that I love the evo3d, its an amazing device. But, if the bootloader isnt unlocked or rooted by the time my 30 days is up, I will be returning it. I feel as though I own the device, and used my hard earned money to buy it, and like a computer I should have access to it. I understand the consumer doesn't matter at all in todays corporate run world, but this is my stance, as is many others. I bought it, I own it, it is no longer yours or sprints as I'm not leasing it, I own it, its mine. Thanks, maybe.
their reply.
I certainly understand that you're looking for the bootloader of the EVO 3D to be unlocked. This is indeed something that we're working on, true to our word. We don't have a date set yet for when the update to do so will be available, but as this is a high priority situation when there is news on the subject it will be posted to our social media outlets, like our Facebook and our Twitter just as the previous announcement was. I hope that it is soon.

7>> This is the final straw! Motorola had the nerve to give me an abysmal response to my BBB complaint, today. Read it and my rebuttal here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26423420&postcount=287
7>> Just got off the phone and managed to snag a HTC Droid Incredible 2 replacement!!! > Here are the details!!!
It has been pure hell over the last 8 months with My Droid X2. I initially saw both the Dinc2 and the DX2 at the showroom when I was deciding between phones. Naively I chose DX2 because it has TWO cores . Bi-Hig mistake!!! I could've enjoyed 8 months of peace and bliss with that phone! Oh well, it is never too late! ^_^
It has been very nice AND encouraging to hang out with you guys! I wish you all luck in either making Moto do the right thing OR get VZW to bail you out like me!!! All the best and keep up the good fight!!! May you prevail!
Stay hungry. Stay foolish!!!

5>> Major Update 4/4/2012:
I called Motorola Corporate office! My call went all the way up. The person said damn near nothing I haven't heard before! But the fight continues. I shall NOT rest till I get a god damn answer! Click here to see what happened.
4>> Major Update 4/3/2012 #2:
After sending a BBB complaint, emailing Moto and talking to an online customer care rep via live chat, I completed a full circle by calling customer care @ Motorola. So, far this has been the most productive and responsive action! Click here to see more details!
3>> Sort of Major Update 4/3/2012:
Okay. So, being impatient and all I didn't want to lay around while Motorola ignored me. So, I poked the beast with a stick eek:) and I chatted with a customer rep. Now, I'm waiting for a call from her "supervisor". Click here to read more!
2>> Minor Update 4/2/2012:
Not a single peep from Motorola. After sending them a direct email yesterday, I waited for 24 hours for them to reply. They said they will reply in 24 hours. So, far not a single peep! The nerve!
1>> UPDATE 4/1/2012:
Submitted an email to Motorola directly, reminding them that they have till 4/5/2012 to reply to the BBB complaint. Click to see the email!
0>> MAJOR EDIT 1: RESUBMITTED MY COMPLAINT
I resubmitted my complaint, since last time I didn't do it correctly. This time I filed it directly towards Motorola, Inc. Here it is!!!
Note: Old complaint removed as it is outdated, and mostly rehashed and improved upon in the new compliant.
***>> HOW TO FILE A BBB COMPLAINT TO MOTOROLA << Credits to iBolski!
__________________________________________________
ORIGINAL COMPLAINT:
I suggest as many people as possible do this. We really need to show up on Motorola's radar! And I really hope they do something...
Here is the complaint:
Complaint description:
Hi,
I am a disgruntled owner of a phone that Motorola feels is not worth their while anymore - the Droid X2. It is about 9 months since the phone was released and I purchased it in August. The device was plagued with issues. There are so many things wrong with it - music playback has major glitches and overall performance of the device is severely hampered. This is unacceptable given that it is a dual core phone and competitors have better products.
I would be okay if Motorola did something about it, like release updates to fix the problems or admit that the phone is faulty and that they will do their best to rectify the situation either by replacing a customer's device if it is faulty or by offering a different phone. The few updates Motorola released do so little to rectify the issues the phone has and neither did they own up to its faults.
Motorola has done almost nothing to rectify faults with the phone or improve their customer relations. For instance, I learned that Motorola claimed, in the past, that it would unlock the "Bootloaders" on its Android phones that would allow users greater flexibility to tinker with their devices and install 3rd party software developed by individual developers. Many competitors allow this on their devices, such as Samsung and HTC. This allows users to improve upon the phones faults, and circumvent issues by using custom builds of Android, called ROMs, hence making the device more useable. Despite Motorola's claim to unlocking the Bootloaders they never did it, citing Verizon Wireless's policies to be the reason. However, HTC also sells phones via Verizon but they managed to unlock the Bootloaders on their phones. This amounts to false advertizing for their short term benefit.
In contrast, I had better experience with Asus's customer support with regard to the Asus Transformer Prime. Not only did Asus own up and apologize for the faults of their device, the company also ensured that there is active support for it and maintained very good customer relations.
Furthermore, Motorola accepted a pledge that Google made many cellphone manufacturers take to ensure that they update as many phones as possible to the latest operating system, namely Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) or Android 4.0. Motorola claimed they will update the software of their phones to ICS as long as it is within the 18 month window since ICS's release. The Droid X2 fits the bill, but recently they told another person who too filed a BBB complaint that they are NOT updating the Droid X2 to ICS. I call this a real slap in the face by Motorola to their customers - a true insult to an injury.
The reason I am upset with Motorola is that they have willingly crippled the hardware of this phone by locking the Bootloader. Then, the software that they install on the phone by default is sub par, causing this phone that has significant power to work sluggishly. Despite the heavy lock-down of the software, some 3rd party developers managed to build some custom flavors of Android, and it is only due to the effort of these people that I and many other owners of this device are able to live with it on a daily basis.
I was hoping to get ICS on this phone because I truly believe that it would solve many of its problems. The phone is capable too - it is dual core, has 512 MB of RAM. Even HTC is updating Incredible 2, which is a single core device, to ICS. Though Motorola is on its way to release an update for this device, it isn't ICS and hardly has any significant upgrades. Most likely, it is going to disable "root" access that so far allowed me and many other users respite! The only way I am able to survive with this phone is the work of 3rd party developers making great custom ROMs, something Motorola's developers can't seem to do at all!
If Motorola continues to display such poor public relations and turns a deaf ear to us, I am not interested in continuing business with them. I will definitely purchase a different brand phone next time!

Desired Settlement: Other
I request Motorola to do the following: They should firstly apologize for not testing their device thoroughly and ironing out the bugs before releasing it and for the poor customer relations and poor hardware support. Furthermore they should release ICS on this device, given that other phone manufacturers have pledged to release Android 4.0 on phones less powerful that this. I sincerely believe that this phone is capable of running Android 4.0 (ICS). Finally they should honor their claim and unlock the Bootloader on this phone. I honestly cannot understand why Motorola is unable to unlock the Bootloaders on their phones when HTC, who also sells phones via Verizon Wireless, is able to do so, since Motorola claims that it is due to Verizon that they are unable to unlock Bootloaders.
Unlocking Bootloaders is a very key issue and I want Motorola to answer this immediately. Why is it that HTC is allowed to unlock the Bootloaders on its devices but not Motorola, though both sell phones with Verizon? Is it that HTC is given special treatment or is it that Motorola is hiding the true reason from its customers? In any case, unlocking the Bootloaders allows 3rd party developers to build custom versions of Android hence rectifying bugs and glitches present in Motorola's own software that it releases for the phone and helps people support the phone long after its end of life. I don't mind voiding warranty on this device to unlock it, since it offers a more palatable alternative which is greater flexibility to improve the user experience on the phone beyond anything imaginable. This will help users enjoy their phones better and make better use of it and will also make customers more loyal to Motorola, since it shows that Motorola cares for its user base.
Motorola should also significantly reduce the number of devices they manufacture per year and focus more on quality than quantity. With fewer phones, Motorola will have ample time to develop, test and debug each phone and have enough time to develop quality software for their phones. Most of the problems with customers will immediately be solved if they follow this mantra since they will have less bugs and more time devoted to supporting each device, leading to happier customers. If you look at Apple, they make only 1 phone per year. Yet they sell the most phones every year. Clearly, quality is more important and it doesn't matter whether you launch 20 or 30 phones in a year. Also, by launching so many phones so quickly, Motorola is shooting itself in the foot by competing its own products against each other. Take for instance Droid Bionic and Droid Razr. They were released so close to each other making the sales of Droid Bionic plummet.
Despite the many foibles, Motorola phones do a few things exceptionally well - they have excellent call quality which is number 1 as at the end of the day all these devices are phones, and they have great build quality. But still, poor software and support is Motorola's Achilles heel. If they want me and other current Motorola customers to continue supporting their company, then they SHOULD step up and answer these issues and support their products better, by unlocking the Bootloaders, for instance. Otherwise, I and many other customers have no incentive in continuing business with a company that clearly doesn't care for its users.
Unless these issues are resolved, I am definitely purchasing a different branded phone next time, and will never return to Motorola, i.e. I will be a lost customer. It is up to you Motorola. Do you want me and many other customers to abandon you?
Sincerely,
A disgruntled Droid X2 user.

Guys, I urge as many of you as possible file a BBB complaint. It takes hardly 15-30 mins. Let us make a dent on Moto!
Awesome job. Hopefully, the more people complain, the more Moto and Verizon will have to answer less they wish to lose customers.
I've already tweeted to both that I'm looking for a new phone manufacturer and possibly, a new carrier.
I just might have to hand the torch over to you, now!
Can you post which Motorola you chose on the BBB's website? It seems that there are a ton of choices and I wouldn't want to pick one that no one's going to care to read. I will be filing a complaint as well. I bought this phone like 2 weeks after it came out and have had small issues ever since (until I learned that there are devs out there that care about the performance of a phone). Anyways, I'll be watching this for some direction. Thanks.

First off, I updated the OP to include the actual Desired settlement. Secondly, BBB sent the complaint to the Business and waiting for a response by 31st March.
unt0uchable, I filed the complaint as for a cellphone or carrier. Then chose Verizon Wireless and then chose phone maker as Motorola. Apparently BBB sent the complaint to VZW :/
I hope VZW sends the complaint to Moto since it is they who really should respond but I really don't mind Verizon getting it either, since they too are major jackasses. But I suppose this is how BBB operates with regard to Cellphone complaints.
iBolski, how exactly did you file your complaint? I wanna know if what I did was right or wrong! Can you give the public link for your BBB complaint?

Mine went straight to Moto. I can't remember exactly how I filed it, but I don't remember filling it out with Verizon. Mine definitely went to Motorola though as that is who responded.
I feel we are going no where with this, the phone is listed for $49.99 on VZW's website. I feel they want to get rid of the stock they have and completely dump this phone. I'm getting my Galaxy Tab 10.1 back from my dad to enjoy CM9 on it. F*$# Motorola

at least with Samsung we have a decent CWM Recovery!
I'll probably drop Motorola altogether and end getting some other brand when I can. Money is beyond tight right now. :-(

Sorry for being anti-kill-Moto here but I have yet to hear of a great computer/phone candidate on vzw that has great call reception- as good as our phone.
I just told Verizon that they have until April 28th To figure something out with this phone And it's lack of updates and lack of ability to modify or I'm going to cancel my Verizon Wireless account my Verizon fios account and every Verizon account I have associated. ...... And I will if they want test me. The money is not an issue with me it's the principle!

At this point, that doesn't matter to me. From the reviews I've read, both the galaxy nexus and the rezound have pretty good clarity on voice reception as well as good signal retention as well.

Well I actually like the hardware. Just not to happy about the locked bootloader.
Got a Reply from Verizon
Well, I guess my BBB complaint may not have been as fruitful as iBolski's. I got a call from a guy at Verizon Wireless who talked to me on the phone for about 10 minutes. He acknowledged that my complaint highlighted the locked bootloader issue and the ICS update and said that he pretty much can't help it since Verizon is just the service provider. That sounds fair, and he did mention that the upcoming update may help solve some problems
Anyway, he suggested that since I addressed Motorola as well in the complaint, may be Motorola also got a copy of the BBB complaint. Nevertheless, irrespective of whether they got the complaint or not, I plan to file a new complaint specifically directed towards Motorola. One thing that did strike me in the phone call is that it didn't sound as if Verizon is holding back Moto from unlocking the bootloaders. The guy posed it as if it is in the hands of Motorola and it is up to them to give it or not... So, when I do file a complaint directed to Moto, I'll try highlighting this!
Cheers!

Just go to the Better Business Bureau web site (http://www.bbb.org) and file a complaint (https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started)
When you get to the first screen asking about the business, you want to choose the following:
Is the business in US or Canada - Choose Yes
Your complaint involves a - choose cell phone or wireless carrier
Next, you won't see Motorola as a choice. On the right side of the page in the Help block, click on the search link to search for Motorola.
The first one (Motorola, Inc) is the one you want to select.
Next, a pop-up window will come up. Choose Headquarters as the office location. This is the information you should see for the choice you just made:
BBB of Chicago & Northern Illinois
330 N. Wabash, Ste. 2006
Chicago, IL 60611-7621
(312)832-0500
[email protected]
After that, you are on your way to file a complaint to Motorola. Remember, be civil but firm. Don't get nasty, don't make nasty threats but you can inform them that you will move on to other hardware if the issue isn't rectified. But, you don't want to name call, you don't want to curse. You want to be professional about it otherwise, they more than likely will not take your complaint seriously.
In any case, if other people want to file complaints, the instructions I outlined is the way I filed my complaint.
Good luck! Hopefully, everyone can make a difference and actually get Motorola to change their ways. At this point, even having an ICS release would be enough for me because at that point, CM9 could be compiled against a true ICS kernel as opposed to a GB kernel.
But, if no ICS comes, then unlock the bootloader. I guess for me, it doesn't matter. I'm moving on to another phone when my upgrade comes. I can't wait to get rid of this phone.

Just got a call back a couple days ago and they basically said the same thing to me as well
Sent using XDA app from my abandoned DX2 running CM7. In dragonzkiller we trust ;p
Yeah. Next person to get a phone call I want a name and quotations. So we can trap them in this silly circle of finger pointing. But to me it has to be Motorola because HTC unlocked and verizon sells them...
whoa look at that....
Just decided I'm filling against Motorola today.
whoa look at that....
I may have to try this. I've been calling verizon and complaining 2-3 times a week. Yesterday I was offered some new LG elephant phone or something as a replacement because its an equivalent phone, when I asked for the specs and was told it had a 3.1" screen I started laughing and said "um no, that is not equivalent by 1.2" inches." Then she went and talked to a supervisor and offered me the Droid 3, which is somewhat tempting, but I told her I wouldn't do anything until I checked into it.
I'm starting to believe that as great as verizon's network is, that because of the restrictions and other things that they impose on the manufacturers, don't expect to get a phone that has gone through enough testing to be fully baked. I'm not sure it exists on verizon.
Then again maybe all us hackers just are asking to much, lol.
I just spoke to sprint costumer service and they did infact told me that htc evo 3d is not getting ics. I also asked if we would be able to get an erly upgrade becouse of this and they said no. They also told me that if you get a new htc evo 4g lte or samsung galaxy s3 insurance will increase to 11 dollars and 99 cents a month. Deductable also increases to 200 dollars for this phones. By the way i got s-off 1.50 using the wire trick very easy i just thoght you should know.

Also the 3D is definitely getting ics.

Hey man, a lil hostile there eh?
1) how do you know for certain Sprint will release ICS for the EVO 3D? Do you have a contact in Sprint? If so, pic or your lying out your ass.
2) I like how you shot down his notion that the price will increase. When has prices in this economy ever decreased or stayed the same (especially in the telecom business!). I feel you just want to start beef with OP.
3) Now lets see...this is a forum about phones, and specifically in this section we are talking about general EVO 3D subjects. Since our phone is indeed able to run ICS, what's the problem about talking about the official update in the forum? Its not like this subject is way off topic, its regarding a much anticipated update for our phones. Stop being a Negative Nancy, get off your high horse, and say something positive.
I may have not been around during the Hero days but I was around during the OG EVO incarnation (I still remember toastcfh's God Mode). I feel XDA been getting more hostile by the day and its sad to see such a good community get tainted by negative nancys.

Guys if you disagree with a post just ignore it. Flaming back only encourages useless posts like these and I guarantee you the mods have better threads to moderate then another ICS update thread full of crap.
E=MC420
Maybe it feels hostile because of the redundant **** that keeps getting posted. Or how about the continuous negative feedback that people post that the EVO 3D isn't getting this, or it can't do that, or that this new phone is better.
I know I get irritated when I constantly see posts like that.
Not saying yours is, but that's the feeling I've been getting when I sit down and try to catch up on my forum when I'm finally off work.
Personally, I'd rather see threads that talk about what my phone can do, not what it can't. Don't know about others, but I have this phone for another year. Not trying to constantly read about my phone's deficiencies.

First of all, the only definitive answer to this is that a person who is higher up in the food chain (Sprint Executive John Tudhope VP of Product David Owens) did slip out that it would be coming in mid-June. This was on Engadget. Granted, it's still not here, but this could've been misinterpreted by him to mean mid-July. The fact is, Sprint stands to lose A LOT if they don't release this update. Why it's taking so long, no one really knows.
Second, you're right in the fact that the increase is imminent. They even state when you buy the phone, and you must agree to it, that the insurance and deductible do go up for the phone.
Third, while this may be the place to talk about it, creating ANOTHER thread about a date where there still isn't ICS for the EVO 3D isn't exactly the way to go about it. I understand the frustration from many people about cluttered forums. This probably isn't a necessary thread. This should have, instead, been posted HERE.
I mean look at the title and its enough. No ics for evo and a date
Like he's Sprints ceo announcing it? Every one is aware that no one has any real clue when we're getting it. But it's about ninety percent sure we are.
Kthxbye another thread on the subject is never needed again, but we'll have three within the hour.

Sprint isn't going to lose anything by not releasing the update.. what do you think they are going to lose?
You can follow me on Twitter - @NotSo1nter3stin
Fact is HTC has already put out ICS. Therefore they have to provide source and will for it. We don't need the official Sprint update. Just source. When that happens you'll see. Doesn't matter what Sprint does now at this point. We need kernel source which they have yet to provide but will and have to.

Educate yourself.
Both Sprint and HTC are listed there. And to top it off, with an Executive (My apologies, this was actually David Owens, VP of Product that stated this) saying on a very well-known blog (on a video none-the-less), that the update is coming, I think that's a lot to look out for.

How will you see it, if they don't do it??
Having been very satisfied with using MeanRom Gingerbread on my Evo 3D, I didn't know if I would like moving to ICS, but now I absolutely love it. After all, I could get nearly 2 days out of my battery with the cpu tweaks available for the GB ROMs, which are not available for ICS kernels yet.
That being said, from what I have been reading, it is a safe bet that your Evo3D will never see an OTA update from Sprint, and if you want ICS, you're gonna need to root your phone.
After being so impressed with MeanRom (GB), I decided to tryout the MeanRom ICS version, but the battery life is really not very good, and the phone seemed to lag terribly at times. I was holding out hope this would be improved, but considering the developer has recently purchased a Evo 4G LTE, I think he is moving on, and I have given up hope on this ROM. I considered going back to GB, but decided to try two other ICS ROMs that I really like. They are lightning quick, and have excellent battery life. First is Cool ICS, which has built in Beats Audio, and makes a surprising difference via Bluetooth to a Bose Soundlink (which is awesome, by the way).
The other ROM that I am fond of, but seems to be lacking a few features is the NegaLite BluRom ICS. I wanted to send a request to the developer, but unfortunately, I am unable to do so until I get 10 posts, so I guess this is why you had to see me ramble away on this reply.
Its getting mighty chilly in here.
Me thinks the zero tolerance rules are about to kick in.
I usually optimistic regarding updates, especially with Sprint (HTC is ok, i feel someone in HTC is the source of our VM leak in the first place). However recently I've been feeling this phone is slowly becoming a bastard child for HTC/Sprint. They want to forget how they weren't able to hit their sales mark with this device and they are looking towards the future (One Series).
In a business sense, ICS will not give Sprint their ROI if they were to spend time delivering it as an OTA. They will rather allocate their limited man-power to supplement their latest and greatest devices. Sadly, its just business, and there's nothing we can do about it since we're sadly slaves to the Tele-gods.
Personally, now that I know I love rooting/hacking/modifying my phone, I know my next purchase will be a Nexus device that will bypass Telecoms entirely.

I've been doing some searches regarding that 18-month upgrade cycle Google mentioned last year in their I/O conference. Sadly it was a hollow promise:
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/...nt-get-an-upgrade-to-ice-cream-sandwich/17295
Again we don't need Sprints update. Just HTC's source which they will provide. This is all useless.

I was passing by on my way from the One X+ Forums, and I recently got confirmation from this wonderful man that my phone would be receiving the 4.2.2 update by the end of the year.. While browsing through his Twitter feed, I came across this tweet from him, which at least confirms that a plan is being worked out to release the same update for you guys. That is the same response he gave about the One X+ not too long ago, but now that has been confirmed, so I would expect a full confirmation soon for the EVO. It looks like you guys haven't been forgotten after all. :highfive:
Update 1: I contacted him directly about it, and got a slightly different and more vague response here. He won't confirm anything, but he says he is "working on it", so take it for what you will. I still believe it will receive the update, although @Fifth313ment is willing to bet $100 that it won't.
Update 2: We've got an official comment from the President of HTC USA here. It's still very vague, but it looks like we'll be hearing about a possible update plan soon.
Update 3: It's official folks! https://twitter.com/JasonMacHTC/status/386284246521769984 And it's a version newer than most were even expecting! I believe @Fifth313ment owes me a healthy chunk of money and an apology to HTC. ;D
Update 4 (11/26/13): It looks like the update is still on track for the end of the year, but a delay is not out of the question. It is in internal lab testing right now though. https://twitter.com/JasonMacHTC/status/405422654338777088

I'm sorry bro the EVO LTE is not getting another update. They simply don't have the stomachs to tell us. They know this will banish users from HTC so they will not give a confirmation for as long as they can, IF EVER, hoping w simply forget about it. Also in that tweet he said he is working with the "Carriers" on a plan, but Sprint is the only carrier carrying the EVO LTE. So it's simply a canned (no pun intended) response.
Why hasn’t HTC and Sprint fixed the MMS picture bug yet? It’s been a year and a half?! WTF? Every time I send a MMS picture I get angry as I have to add another pic, then another to get a full screen pic you can see that isn’t compressed, then delete the first slide, then retype or paste (what I previously copied) and then send, rinse and repeat! FLUCK YOU HTC! I shouldn’t have to use a third party app to send picture messages or do 50+ things to get a decent picture to send! And the pictures that send when I don’t do anything are unreadable! Blurry to the point where huge text gets garbled! This is pissing me off, as I just had to send one, so this is a rant but I’m still pissed!
+1 on why I will never buy another HTC!
+2 I’ll never forgive them for the year I spent having to turn my screen on and off a million times as my proximity sensor wasn’t working (proximity bug)!
WindyCityRockr, you're a dev, will the newest EVO LTE update kill your and S-OFF app? I want to take the update but not if it kills the option to root and S-OFF. Thanks.

I understand your guy's frustrations. For the longest time, we over at the HOX+ section didn't believe that we'd get the 4.2.2 update, but we did. And now that 4.2.2 has been confirmed for the HOX and almost confirmed for the EVO, I believe that HTC won't leave you guys behind that quickly. At least not until after the 4.2.2 update.

And now that 4.2.2 has been confirmed for the HOX and almost confirmed for the EVO, I believe that HTC won't leave you guys behind that quickly. At least not until after the 4.2.2 update.

Did you see my post above? I STILL can't send MMS messages without going through a huge task or another app altogether. HTC doesn't care about their customers sadly. They will leave us in the dust, I'm willing to bet $100 and start a pool if anyone is interested?! LTE still sucks on the phone as does signal strength. I used to get a better signal with my OG EVO and I have a list of other issues. But I'm stuck on my contact and there is not much I can do for now. I can tell you that I will never give HTC another dollar of my money as long as I live! WindyCityRockr keep up the good work bro!

Just because the HOX got the update doesn't mean we will. We're not the same breed. It's like assuming that because we share so much DNA with chimps, we will be able to have chimp babies too. Not happening until it happens, which, in all likelyhood, will be never.

Thanks.

I'm not seeing anything in your link to suggest we'll be getting 4.2.2 or sense 5. Do you have a more direct link you could share to that information?
All I see is a reply from him regarding the Evo LTE saying, "No worries, nothing confirmed yet..."
With the keyword being "nothing".
He didn't mention 4.2.2 or Sense 5, or that we would even be getting anything at all.

The HTC Developer who tweeted the information specifically responded to a question about Sense 5 and 4.2.2 here, stating that they are working with the carrier on a plan for the update. There's some obvious speculation here, but it confirms that there is plan being made to release the update. Whether they go through with that plan is another thing. Many people thought HTC had completely left behind the EVO, but this is proving that work is still being done towards it, however large or small it may be.
Edit: Yes, he did make that clarifying statement afterwards, but he did confirm work at one point in time. Most likely he is waiting on a specific timeline, as his response is similar to many other phones before the update was official.

To be honest, it just sounds like normal PR spin. This latest update doesn't exactly inspire confidence in htc's resolve to support the device if their own maintenance upgrades are using a version of android that's over a year old.
We have a handful of people here who, in their free time and without any proprietary information, can get the device working very well on the latest version of android, yet htc is unable to devote enough resource towards it to push out a proper upgrade?
If this was just a stop-gap until a larger one could be pushed out it would be one thing, but, in my opinion, the comments so far do not suggest that's the case. It sounds like he's leaving it open for interpretation in the hope that people will look upon it favorably and spread rumors that are inaccurate.

I completely understand. I'm probably being too optimistic here with my hopes for HTC. They, and most manufacturers, have bad track records when it comes to these kinds of updates, though HTC has improved recently. Improvement unfortunately means already 1 year old software released as a new update, but it is progress towards the ultimate goal of quick Android updates. There is most likely a lot of PR going on here, but he did confirm they are working with the carriers, one of which, I'm again assuming, is Sprint, as they're working with AT&T for updates on similarly older phones, such as the One X and One X+. Yes, they are very different phones, but the One X+ was a mid-cycle phone and has a considerably smaller user base, and they are still releasing 4.2.2, so that gives me some hope for the EVO.

xHausx I tweeted to HTC as well and you are correct, that is the normal PR spin, I got the SAME response. WindyCityRockr, do not forget all of our talented DEVs that will bring us 4.2.2 & 4.3 to our phones. They are keeping it alive!

I am by no means, at all, trying to diminish the work that the Devs have done. They are some of the most important people for maintaining a device and keeping it up to date. I'm just trying to be optimistic about HTC's prospects for the phone. There isn't very much evidence at this point, but they haven't outright denied it, which makes it more of a possibility than most people around here have made it seem.

I was actually kinda expecting this from them. I got shat on with the Hero and was really not expecting much in the way of constant support from HTC. Especially when all you hear in the news stories is how badly they are doing as a company. I guess it's a good thing I've grown tired of Sense anyways.
Update from President of HTC USA in the OP. Again, nothing confirmed, but he did corroborate the developer's original tweet in that they are working on finalizing a plan for the update.

Would require no plan if they were to drop support entirely. Optimistic since the one x shares the same hardware.

IMHO, they are working on it. things could change, but the president of the company doesn't tweet that unless it is getting worked on.
who knows whose hands the update is in right now (htc or sprints) but it is likely that this device moves up in priority now that the One has 4.3.
I can't think of many devices more popular on sprint that are more popular than this other than iphone (os updates go much quicker), HTC one (already up to date), the GS3/4 (not sure where they are)>
Fingers crossed for maybe middle november.
