Cricket - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone ever flashed the thunderbolt to cricket? I would prefer to stick with vzw but i was unemployed for a short time and couldn't pay my bill and lost service. So i been looking to see if i could flash to cricket and start using it again. Unless anyone knows if vzw will work with you to get yer phone service back on after your bill has gone to collections....

if you pay off the bill, then verizon will free up the esn on the phone. If they give you another contract or not might be a different story.
I have my tbolt flashed to cricket, send me a message with your email, and I will pass it along to my friend who flashed mine

I'm not too worried about keeping the number but i would like a hand switching to cricket!

sprint won't activate phone..

A rep offered to use the air rave line for an upgrade, so I bought and paid for a new evo lte.. when I got it I called sprint to activate and they told me no and that I have to send it back because the rep wasn't allowed to do that... any suggestions? I already have the phone...

Do u have a sprint phone line with the data card? I mean if u upgraded and got it at discount I would connect it to my other line just make sure they give u a two year update on the data plan one.

Call them back and tell them to activate. If they say the rep shouldn't have done that, tell them that is not your problem. You were told you could, you bought the phone, you received the phone, and now Sprint needs to stand behind what the rep said.
They give you more run around, tell them to transfer you to a manager. If that doesn't help, get on phone with retentions.
Replace the old phone with the lte on the main line.

Are you unable to activate it from your account on the website?
Ya I agree with these guys. Wether they should have done this or not means nothing. Don't even bother talking to them. Activate it online yourself. It is very easy just sign in to sprint and it walks u through it. Doesn't take any time at all. If u don't have a login just sign up for one. I never talk to sprint when activating a new phone.

Tell Sprint word for word this:
Please just go ahead and activate the phone on my line, like I was originally told.
Otherwise, just go ahead and cancel my account right now. I've had WAY too many issues with Sprint as is. I don't even mind paying the early termination fees.
They'll jump on your dink(lol) and do anything you want. Maybe even offer you a few food coupons and a trip to Vegas.
Also.. why not just go back to that same Rep who sold it to you and say "here. Do it now."

Go to www.sprint.com/activate
You can get it done there without dealing with those dummies in Customer Care.
Let me know if this works for you. I also have a upgrade on my Airwave and would like to do this for my wife's phone.

I don't think you can activate this phone online, the old data feature code has to be removed and the lte code has to be added. Then after that is done swapping/activating should work.

The fourth rep finally activated it for me without any questions.. you can try... But its taken me more time then its worth to do.
Can't do it online it won't work. Hands free didn't work because of sero.

That is insane. I do that ALL the time!!
I manage the Sprint account at our company of 100+ Sprint devices, we just borrow upgrades from what ever device has one available and activate it on which ever line we want.
Also to sweeten the deal. one of the guys here has an airave on his personal account. He was not available for an upgrade yet but he went to Best Buy to pre-order the EVO LTE and the guy told him his phone is not yet available but his Airave is and they could use that line to activate it.. and now he has a EVO LTE with no problems from Sprint.
Honestly, just call Sprint. Tell them you want to activate a new phone on your line. ALL you need to tell them is the MEID HEC and nothing else. You don't need to tell them where you got the phone. If they give you trouble ask politely to speak to their manager and if the manager doesn't help say this "can I please talk to the retention department" the retention department is the people who are paid to keep you as a customer.

Inc 2 to Thunderbolt: VZW Q:

Family member gave me their Thunderbolt, I now have the Incredible 2., which is 3G. I have an unlimited data plan for some time. If I drop my sim into the thunderbolt and activate is it going to wreck my plan and put me on the new tiered system?
No and the sim from the dinc2 is worthless in a thunderbolt. That's a gsm sim. I came to the thunderbolt from the dinc2 and I still have unlimited data
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Maybe call vzw and ask just to be sure but I believe it only applies if you use an upgrade and buy the tbolt from them. Because anyone can buy a phone from anywhere ie(craigslist, ebay, etc) and put it on there lime as long as the ran is clean. But like I said check with them to be safe.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
It shouldn't mess with your plan, but you will need a different sim that will allow you to get the 4G lte network.
Like he said above, the sim you currently have is useless.

Thanks guys! Where would I find that SIM?
Just walk into Verizon and they should just give you one. They shouldn't really ask any questions, but if they do, just tell them you picked it up used and just need a sim card for it.

It may cost you $25 to pick one up
And btw you should ROOT The tbolt

Sims are free for VZW customers. You have to get it from a corporate store or order it though because the licensed retailers will charge for it.

Upgrade to EVO 4G LTE by buying out contract

My sister wants to get this phone and she is still on the EVO 4G.
I told her she could just buy out her contract if she wants the full discount. It's only $50.00 (she's a few months out).
The Corporate Sprint store said she had to hand in her old EVO 4G to do the Buyout. She wants to keep it and sell it (she already got offered like $130.00 for it).
She called Sprint and she said she had to go to a Store to do it.
I thought you could just call up sprint, payoff contract and then buy and Sprint phone after full discount from any authorized dealer with a 2 year renewel.
And sell your old phone any old time you want.
I bought out of my contract no problem...they never asked for me to return anything back....besides that she paid for her of EVO with her money I would call again and speak to a diffrent service rep....

I called sprint retention and bought out my contract over the phone. Kept my phone too (sold it back to best buy for like $200)

You were most likely given bad information. Call again.
Sent from my EVO LTE
No point in calling again. That info is correct. Sprint modified the program. It is no longer being performed thru customer care. It is now being done in the stores and a buyback of the old device IS required. You were told correctly. Customer care can't offer this anymore. It must be done in the stores. This was done to reduce issues from the previous program.

Unless that changed in the last couple of months, its nonsense. Or unless my situation was different. I had three lines on my account and terminated two of them for $50 each over the phone and didn't have to give them a thing.

Couldn't a person just buy some piece of junk on craigs list, activate it on the line and give them that? (moment old blackberry etc) My kid has an epic touch with a crack in the screen that only can be seen with the screen off and they want to give him 40 bucks for it, i don't think so.

Completely different. This discussion is about essentially buying an early upgrade, not terminating lines

You may need to do a little checking yourself. Both my parents and sister did this. 2 paid $50 and my mother payed $100.

A couple of internal docs regarding the new buy-out program were posted on Inside Sprint Now, which of course doesn't exist any more. Yes, starting in the second half of June early buy-outs are only supposed to be done through corp stores and yes, you have to turn in the phone that Sprint gave you in the previous upgrade cycle. The fee depends on the age of the current phone. It is a new program though, so you might still be able to do it the old way by calling customer service and without trading in your current phone, just depends on CSR's knowledge and luck.
Wow, just another reason to leave Sprint I guess. I think that's pretty dumb, as you essentially loose the money you paid for the device. Unless the money you paid to get the device is somehow subtracted from the price you pay to buy out the contract.
yeah this is bs, why would i pay off the rest of the fone just to turn in the fone and buy a new contract.... if sprint keeps this, they are gonna use alot of business....
You people are ridiculous....
How about you wait until your contract is up then? Then you can upgrade and keep your phone. If u want to upgrade early this is how you have to do it. Otherwise don't do it. Simple. Yet another reason to leave sprint? Lol. That sounds silly. Please explain to me how other providers run their buyout programs.

She had an old flipphone she activated and handed that over.
They do buy back the old phone so it's not a bad deal.
I never let a "contract" sway when I do anything.
I think it's ridiculous when folks say I can't do X because they are under contract.
ok so i guess we're pretending that they didn't just take away the premire upgrades. you should be able to buy out the rest of your contract and not have to turn in the phone too, thats not a good deal, say you pay 165 to end your contract and then have to turn in a 500+ plus phone just do get a new one, might as well just pay the etf and keep the phone, u could actually make more money to get a new phone this way.

Just depends on the phone you have.
This is one specific program.. there are others
The push with buyback of the current phone in this specific program is the increased need for phone recycling, which sprint currently leads in.
The crying over contract changes that happened 6 months ago or more is just silly. Premium customers received one last upgrade to be used by end of year.

Data

Looks like Verizon finally took my prepaid unlimited data away. Would use the 1 gb they gave me but if your rooted and use an app for tethering it appears to be the only work around. Just their way of trying to suck the money from us poor folks.
Sent from my MB870 using xda app-developers app
Can you be more specific? What did you do to loose unlimited?
^^ Right because they can't just take it away out of nowhere. Did you upgrade or change your plan in anyway?
Were you on a contract? If not, taking it away abruptly could be well within Verzon's rights (sadly). Between payment times they could just be like "well, we're done with this tough ****". I truly hate that. Not a lick of obligation to the customer on their part.
Nope. I paid for the X2 straight out for prepaid and I haven't changed anything to my plan. Instead of unlimited data now I get 1gb.
Sent from my MB870 using xda app-developers app
Maybe it just depends on the phone you traded for. A prepaid phone, I believe, wouldn't get the unlimited data plan. I could be wrong though.
I'm not really sure what the prepaid plans offer.
If you previously had unlimited data and made no changes to your plan, they will allow you to keep you current plan and be "grandfathered in."
Throwing the word "prepaid" into the equasion makes me wonder if there is more to it.
I took a phone, not on my line or belonging to me, and had it activated on my account. I still have my unlimited data. The phone was actually an upgraded phone from my wife's account. She took my X2 and I took the Gnex.
If you changed your plan in any way, that will definietly cause you to loose your unlimited data.
I haven't change anything since I bought the phone last year. Same plan and all.

Straight Talk Experiences?

I just got this phone passed on to me and will be leaving Sprint to use it.
I keep reading about straight talk and how cheap it is but still runs on AT&T towers etc...
What are your experiences with Straight Talk and this device? Worth it or should I just go to AT&T and pay double?

Yours won't work with Straight Talk because it runs on CDMA
He is leaving Sprint to use his inherited i777. I have seen others who are very pleased with his phone on ST. Look in the general section.

ST on AT&T is epic. Awesome service, awesome coverage, no issues at all. The one time I called Straight Talk's customer service, I did actually get a helpful, English-speaking person on the line.
I've never tried pushing the data limit but everything has worked very well for me. Coming from Sprint (depending on location of course) you will be a big fan of AT&T. I wouldn't pay even $30 a month for an unlimited plan with Sprint. Good luck.

He doesn't have service on the new phone. Hence the question. Some of us have multiple devices.

I have no issues, I've been using it for almost 1 1/2 years and I refuse to ever go to contract. Do it dude.

I am going to be waiting out my contract and purchasing a phone at cost and using straight Talk with it. No more contracts for me. 45 bucks a month for unlimited everything? Can't beat that.
After reading this thread and a few others, talking to our companies AT&T Rep and a few face to face discussions surrounding straight talk I've decided to go with AT&T.
I think it would be great for a light user who checks email and refreshes Facebook etc... But I'm more data hungry and it sounded like that may be an issue with straight talk. Maybe not right away, but eventually.
I'm now on AT&T contract free.
