Ics - HTC Rezound

Okay what is different in ics vs gb for the sense roms? What new features?
Thanks

First I need to say that I am running Cleanrom, but I think a lot of it is what you'll see in stock.
The original, 3-button dock is no longer there. You have a center app drawer button and 4 custom slots. So a 5 button dock. You can actually group apps in a folder and place them onto the dock. Whatever is placed on the dock is your shortcuts for the lock screen. Change them, and they'll change to whatever you have on lockscreen.
I'm not sure if this is new, but the default Sense Clock widget has a shortened down version now. It takes up half the vertical space that the regular one does.
This could be the rom I'm running, but the status bar has some new icons and the fonts look like the roboto font. The drop down menu does have some ICS elements to it as well. It is now black (could be my rom?) and has the new icons in it. You can swipe the notifications closed or click them and load them (that part isn't new). The Quick settings tab has little switches in it instead of check boxes.
When you hold down the home key to go to recent apps, instead of the popup of 8 recent apps, you have the basic ICS recent apps now. It loads up a window with the list of apps and a preview window of the app in the background. You can scroll up and down and swipe to kill the apps.
I can't really see anything else at the moment that is new/different, but I'll let you know if I see something. Hope that helps.

If that is all thats new for ics... It seems stock Rezound with golauncher would be pretty close minus the Bugs...
I might be way off with this guess though, so correct me if I'm wrong guys

I was running stock Rezound with Go Launcher up until last night when I flashed Senseless ICS. Go Launcher may let you mimic some of the ICS functionality, but at the cost of eating additional RAM. Sure, it's not much, but most of us here like a lean device. All the 'little' things ICS does stock (swiping apps to end them, better Google apps, better dialer, better contacts) really add up. It's well worth flashing over to a stock ICS ROM, especially given just how stable they're becoming. The improvement in battery life made it worth it for me; my Rezound no longer chews through 10%+ battery on 4G inside of 10 minutes.

Go Launcher EX

GO Launcher EX is the extra version of GO Launcher, one of the most popular stock home replacement app in android market, provides beautiful themes, fast flip speed and tons of useful functions. Don't know how many of you use it. Its very fast has an inbuilt task killer also!!
Check out the website!!
http://www.goforandroid.com/
I've been using GO Launcher for a while now, it's by far the best out there. Only strange thing i noticed is that with GO Launcher EX you need to install a separate module in order to have missed call and message notifications down in the dock.

No but u can put them into folders.
Awsme launcher thanx
I've tried other launchers and this is the only one moving smoothly on my Optimus. In addition to that it has icon personalization and you can make those annoying never-used apps disappear in your app menu.
it has enough customization options and the battery use is quite low. A must-have!
very good ...... n.n
Go Launcher EX in my opinion has to be the best one out there.
I am one of the people who actually enjoyed Touchwiz at first....well, until my app drawer reached over 10 pages (That's 160 apps and I even had the bloatware hidden with TiBackup)
Anyways. I have just this completely crazy and awesome thing going with Go Launcher on my phone. The best thing is, I've gone from 10 pages all the way down to 4. This launcher has so much customization and features, and on top of it all, it runs extremely fast.
I have posted several screens of what I have done on my phone using Go Launcher as well as just some screens so people can see it and understand it more.
The 1st is a preview of the ui swiping side to side, the 2nd is all my home screens, the 3rd is what the new app drawer looks like (notice the folders INSIDE the app drawer), the 4th is just all the options I have on my main home screen. The 5th and 6th Images are showing how you can switch the dock back and forth. The 7th is showing the modded facebook app available here on the XDA and my personal mod of the Picture Dial widget. And the last is the Screen Shortcut Screen (when you pinch the screen at home).
I hope you all enjoy.
NOTE: The "theme" I have is purely from the customization features I had available. I did not mod it at all (with the exception of one widget) nor did I actually create a theme for the Launcher like those which are available for ADW.
You can find almost all of what you see via internet. I had to photoshop a few icons (you'll notice them on the screen shots showing my different dockbars as those images are more recent).
gunna have to give this one a try adw launcher just isnt cuttin it for me any more
Using 2.3.2 Mur4ik ROM what I find is that Home Manager shows both Go Launcher EX and stock launcher are running at the same time, stock can take up to 40mb RAM, and second that for Go Launcher EX, so I've changed to stock because I want more mem and when I AutoKill stock then Go launcher Running tab says there's more ram.
How can I customize stock 2.3 launcher?
I need to change number of screens to 3 from 5, I don't need more.
Is there any way to create folders in menu instead in "desktop" only?
Screen transistions are not my priority, but Go Launcher is much user friendly anyway, and allows quick access to most commonly used options by me.
Yeah just hold one app and drag ontop of another to put them both in a folder

How much memory did you say Go Launcher used up? when I'm in it's app drawer tab and kill everything I can only get a max of about 150 out of a possible 303Mb
I will say that you can clear up some memory if you "Freeze" your default launcher using Titanium Backup.
Oh and one of the coolest things about Go Launcher is that since I made a Titanium Backup of it before changing Roms, when I got my phone back up and running again, all I had to do was go into Go Launcher's Preferences, scroll down and hit restore configuration (I had made a back up, can't forget that) and all my custom icons were restored. I had to add my widgets back manually, but that wasnt too big of a deal (I didn't make a titanium backup of that, but I think you can).
...hold on, actually Titanium Backup just restored all my apps, the Go Launcher's configuration is completely separate from titanium backup. GO Launcher creates it's own folder on your SD card for it's backups. It's pretty cool.
Soooo..... has anyone happened to have talked to the developer or anything to find out about making custom themes? I haven't had any experience making themes for other launchers, but I'd like to give a shot at making one for Go Launcher and I haven't seen anything on how to make one unfortunately.
nice but crashes too frequently
for my it is the best launcher for now, and in the oficial page says that it going to have customs themes
Is there any way to decrease the number of screens? I find it incredibly irritating to see have 5 screens, I only need and use 2.
I found GO Launcher to work best with stock 2.1. There are buch of themes for it, but only several of them are good for me.

Your feelings on touchwiz?

I had ordered this without ever even giving touchwiz a thought. Figured the phone would show up, I would play with it about 5 minutes, install new launcher, never look at touch wiz again. After I ordered it I downloaded the user manual and did some reading and it appears that there is some interesting and useful work here that without having the phone I think I like. Watching videos to see if I could see some of the stuff in action seemed to me to confirm that there is some good stuff there.
My question is how are you liking touchwiz? Not the phone, the phone with touchwiz. I Have encountered an older version and was left heavily underwhelmed. Please be specific, I like this, I hate that, and give a reason. If its just because that works fine but have a reason.
Remember guys this is mostly about opinion and little about fact. Leave folks be with theirs and vice versa.
edit.... Also please add in your predilections toward flashing roms, or not, as it were. An opinion from a daily flasher is much different than one from someone who never flashes and runs the stock rom.
I thought I'd hate it but I'm actually really liking it! Some features I love:
- The lockscreen is great and you get little tabs you can slide when you get a text or missed call.
- You can reject a call with a text message (So handy)
- Resizable widgets
- Customiseable dock
- Hold down 'Menu' for search in apps
- Quick settings in the notification tray
- Movable homescreens
- Customisable app tray
and more Besides you could always replace it with another launcher and I'm sure custom ROMs are on the way.
I changed it within seconds to launcher pro. However the drawer in launcher pro isnt smooth at all, im actually thinking of changing back.

Try Go Launcher EX
It is faster than Launcher Pro
I have a lot of time flashing roms and all that fun stuff so I have an idea about the possibilities going that route. Going to edit the op in regards to people adding their experience and preferences as far as flashing roms and such go. Thanks for your input. As a question Im on a custom rom now and the widets are all resizable. Are you talking about the touchwiz widgets then?
Another question would be can you access some or all of the touchwiz widgets from another launcher or do you give them up?

If you go use a third party launcher, you usually lose access to manufacturer widgets, since they work in a slightly different way from plain stock ones...
But if you go Launcher Pro Plus (it's a couple of dollars for the plus version) you get more "custom" widgets like that in return I guess it just depends what look you are going for.
So you have the handset and can confirm they are toast? Figured they would be but I haven't done touchwiz yet.

Nope, hence why I say "usually". I've been in this business for a while, but not got the SGS II yet.
I have to admit that I like Touchwiz. On SGS, I dont have a SGS2 yet. In my opinion, Samsung Glass lockscreen is a way better than the Android stock lockscreen.
At the moment I'm in love with Zeam laucher but I always come back to Touchwiz from time to time. Launcher Pro and ADW have always left me cold.
Did more reading, I see that you can change the fonts system wide. Does this carry over to a new launcher or do you lose that? Pretty nifty feature.
In my personal opinion, touchwiz 3 was dire. But after using my Galaxy S II for a few days touchwiz 4 has come a long way. I'm sticking with Touchwiz for now

I've been playing with the demo models at the office solidly for the past 2 days, and as a Sense users for the past 2 years, I really don't like Touchwiz even in it's newest incarnation.
Probably more down to being used to how everything works in Sense though, I don't like change
Touchwiz 4 is a huge improvement over 3 in my opinion. Using it on both my SGS and SGS2 now. The new calendar widgets on the SGS2 are awesome as well Touchwiz 4 can also put folders in the applications menu now
Semi-regular flasher (ooer) - would generally flash a new rom every couple of months. Been with Android since the G1 so have a pretty good idea of what's possible.
Things you KEEP going to another launcher:
Lockscreen
Dialler (reject call with text etc)
Holding down Menu to search
Settings toggles in the notification bar
You can resize widgets with LauncherPro Plus
Things you might LOSE
Movable homescreens (most launchers do this, but not with the motion sensing twist action like touchwiz)
Customisable app tray (again, most launchers do this)
Resizable widgets (possible with LauncherPro Plus)
Customisable dock (most launchers do this)
Overall, I don't miss the touchwiz launcher, but I like some of the other features. Looks like the Samsung widgets are standard and work in other launchers too - just added Mini Paper, Ap Mobile, and Yahoo! Finance, and they seem fine.
krabman - I've changed my system font to Helvetica S (Settings -> Display -> Screen Display -> Font) and in general it looks great! Carries over to most apps too. The only downside is that it's slightly wider, so you get some buttons wrapping For example, the password "Remember / Not Now" dialog has one, I forget which . . .
Overall, ditch the launcher (I like LauncherPro, smooth for me) but enjoy the other aspects
TW4 is not as bad as many are saying. its still not nearly as good as SENSE 2.x. and I wont even attempt to compare it to the new 3.0 version. I sure hope someone port it.

You pretty much mentioned what I was about to! Using launcherpro plus with widgetsoid and pure calendar widget. I have to say that launcherpro work a bit smoother on the original SGS for be, but with the upcomming update that should be fixed.
Overall, combining the best of what I had on my SGS before, with the new functions from touchwiz 4!

[Q] Go Launcher loosing its settings

I have had not problems with Go launcher until wednesday when my copilot icon disappeared then the next day 2 other icons disappeared which is weird. Luckily I had done a Go Launcher backup so it was easy to fix but I might email the dev for the app and let him know.
left feedback on their home page and downloading/installing the 2.31 beta to see if this works
http://golauncher.goforandroid.com/
Im having the same problem too on KE7..
Its not a big deal but its kinda annoying when suddenly some icons went missing.
i've found 2 temp solutions for it..
1) if in portrait, switch to landscape once or twice, it should return to normal.
2)if point 1) didnt work..backup the Go launcher config under preferences,n restore the config when when icons missing again..
N other this little bug, the launcher EX is a fantastic app!
I get the same. Shortcuts disappear. I just restart the phone and the icons come back

Wow, I had the same happen to me today, while at the super markeg my wife took the phone to take a photo, of our daughter and the 5 buttons at the bottom gone and 5 pluses were there instead. They came back earlier when the app updated though.

I had a little bit of flakey behavior with this one too, not just here but on the N1. To be truthful as time has gone by all the big players (LP, ADW, GO) have become more and more similar in their features and functions and to me it has come to a few simple things, with ADW I get a little hitchiness in the launcher, not big but its there, with GO I get a little bit of assorted things as described, with LP I get no issues and it works smoothly. With touchwiz I get no issues and it works smoothly.
I had been using LP but thought I would beat around the stock launcher and see what could be made of it and truthfully I like some of the things touchwiz as a launcher alone does. It used to be that when I switched back and forth between launchers I felt like I was doing something new and different, rather than the same old thing which had grown boring. Its one of the reasons I switched in the first place, to spice things up. Nowdays though the big three feel much the same, I know I have switched because of the little differences but it feels like using the same launcher. With TW I feel like I'm doing something a little different, its nothing major but its there. I like that. I like the home screen slider that allows me to slide from one far screen to the other or any screen instantly with one hand. No need to pinch and pull up the overview or swipe across. The only real fault I have with it is that you cannot define rows and columns and other basic setup items that would greatly improve my ability to set it up the way I want. I had been hoping that someone might step in and offer a utility that allowed that. So far changing default home and sorting the app drawer alphebetically is covered if you're rooted.
At any rate IMO unless you are a launcher fanboy start checking out the rest of them and see how your performance with your setup is, if its good and you have no issues you're done because the difference between them as far as function, form, and features has become very little. Also consider giving TW a go, it really isnt too bad once you remove all the wiz and use it strictly as a launcher.

I think you may have just swiped the 5 buttons at the bottom of the screen mate. There is a setting in Go Launcher to have around 3 bars at the bottom of the screen. If you make it so its only 1 then you can't swipe it and get those +'s.
lol Good point Matrix, the buttons are swipable so you can add more shortcuts there. I can see how someone could accidently swipe over and think he had something screwed up when the shortcuts were "gone" and only the pluses where you would move new shortcuts were showing.
Same issue here. Icons sometimes disappear when restarting the phone. Restarting again brings them back though

[IDEAS][COLLABORATION]Let's Fix Sense 4

So, I like Sense 4. It's a lot more trimmed down compared to previous versions, and IMO 2nd only to Sense 1.0 (which ran like a champ on the OG EVO). But, it still has some issues, and I think we've all come along them. The point of this thread is to figure out ways which these issues can be fixed. Please, submit issues you have with sense. Here is what I have encountered so far.
1. Widget browser - Long pressing a screen will bring up the widget browser, which is very similar to Honeycomb. This is very clunky, and you have to scroll through page after page to find and add a widget. This is very annoying, and cumbersome.
What should happen: Long pressing on a screen should bring up the wallpaper chooser. To add a widget, the app drawer should be combined with the widget drawer like stock ICS/JB.
2. Multi-tasking - We all know that Sense's multi-tasking sucks. Not only the memory values, and the extremely conservative memory management which kills apps only a few seconds after you leave it, but the look. In stock ICS/JB, you can see and easily swipe away about five applications, instead of having a full screen, almost app in itself.
What should happen: Stock ICS/JB multi-tasking. This was implemented in the Charmeleon ROM, but that hasn't been updated in some time. Would be worth contacting the devs to see how they got the stock multi-tasking into Sense.
3. Overall memory usage - Sense uses much more memory than stock ICS/JB. Often free memory can get down to <100MB, which can hamper the overall speed of the launcher.
What should happen: Memory usage should be scaled down, using the already implemented memory tweaks, removal of un-needed services and applications, and more liberal task management settings.
So, feel free to submit any other problems you have with sense, and submit suggestions on how to practically fix it.

I agree with all of these but I really want the Stock ICS multitasking style.
"Widget browser - Long pressing a screen will bring up the widget browser, which is very similar to Honeycomb. This is very clunky, and you have to scroll through page after page to find and add a widget. This is very annoying, and cumbersome."
You're doing it wrong. You can use the dropdown menu to select the app you want a widget of, which can be quicker than the stock method. And the stock method isn't too much different from scrolling in Sense, besides the fact that you see more widgets at a time stock.
I agree. I'm moving storage from my phone, to my sd card just now, and I go into setting to cut my bluetooth off, and my transfer stopped. It's becoming very annoying by the day.
I'm definitely an unhappy customer at the moment. My phone doesn't restart my UI as much. Because I don't have Sense anymore. Thank god, for the Apex launcher.
Something has to be done asap. HTC should at least acknowledge the problem. Give us some hope. And to think there are some people, saying these things, doesn't bother them.

But didn't HTC fix the XL's multi - tasking issue with an OTA? And if so, I really wonder why our OTA didn't include that same fix?

What about the horrid IMAP/POP/Exchange mail app? HTC really botched that one and has let it slide since people brought this up back in May.
Surely it's not too difficult to fix the "download images" option and apply smaller zoom/font sizes. No, K-9 is not the answer.

[Q] Loving this phone, few gripes with Sense 5 and 4.1 JB

So I just converted from the iWagon to this beauty. LOVING the IR receiver for my TV and the UI for program tuning! MAN oh Man. I actually had a moment where I thought to myself I may be too stupid or old for this phone (I'm 28 har har). It's worlds above iPhone.
Speakers are amazing as well!
However....
I also own a Nexus 7 and I'm not sure if it's because my N7 is running 4.2 JB or what but there are some features that are sorely missed.
Love the dual status bar swipe (swipe left side of top bar and you get progam specific notifications, swipe right side and you get system settings type notes). Also missing is the widget for ANY OTHER EMAIL other than Gmail. Gmail has a nice 3x3 scale-able widget where you can view (and scroll) recent emails, however there doesn't seem to be one for OTHER email address such as Outlook or Yahoo. My N7 has this widget and my co-workers have it on their Note 2's. May be an HTC thing.
Also, I really love the visual style of Sense 5 and the information flow screen is pretty great. BUT, I feel that the Nova Launcher better suits my needs for the Dock icons. I want to be able to have 6 or 7 icons (phone, sms, music, chrome, camera, mail, apps) on the dock at all times. Sense 5 doesn't let you customize it. Annoying especially because I use Chrome rather than the stock browser.
I wish there was some way to have the Sense 5 flow style combined with the good parts of Nova Launcher... Anyone know of a way to do that? If there was a way to combine both seamlessly, I would be STOKED.
Anyways, needless to say I love this frackin thing. Can't wait to see what people come up with for personal customization.

You can customize the dock. You have to open the app drawer then pull one of the ones off the dock and then add chrome. It's kinda stupid that you can only change them by opening the app drawer (as you know they just come back of you remove them while on the homescreen)

^^This..is exactly why I switched to using Nova again. I like being able to customize my stuff. I do miss the drop down toggles as well. That is my only true gripe about this phone.
Nova user too. I switch between the two and have Sense as default coz I'm still liking Blinkfeed. I don't mind the folders on the dock coz I can always switch to Nova.

you can set a shortcut to blinkfeed using nova launcher. just go to shortcuts > activities > HTC sense. thats what i did and i deleted all the additional screens so it just goes to blinkfeed. after youre done with looking at blinkfeed then you just press the home button to go back to nova.

I have it the other way around. Sense is default, placed nova app on dock. Tapping Home takes me back to Blinkfeed then tap dock for Nova when I'm done with Blinkfeed

I have it set up the other way, but your way may even be better. Kind of like using blinkfeed as a lock screen, not really but like a landing screen.
