Hi!
Which audio chip is built in Moto RAZR? I can't find any information. Only I know about audio codec TWL6040 by Texas Instruments.
I think that RAZR playback on headphones is a loooot better than on e.g. iPhone 4. I have installed TTPod, and I hear much more details... Better sound quality.
Playback on Creative Aurvana Live! surprised me. It finally judges that RAZR have better sound quality.
But i still don't know which chip produces sound...
I'd like to compare it to chip in SGS with Voodo Sound. But I never heard, how it plays. People says, that SGS with Voodo Sound is the best Android player.
So I'm just curious, how it compares with our RAZR's
I'd be really grateful for satisfying answer
I come from Galaxy s2 and now audio is much more better. But i feel that my ex iphone 4 was superior to both.
We need a supercurio's review
Sound quality is subjective really. We all have different ears, different headphones, some people use different players and depends on the quality of the audio you're listening to (bitrates, source etc). If it sounds good to you - who cares!
There is a list of the chips inside the razr here: wwwifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Droid-RAZR-Teardown/7048/3 (add a . after the www). you can maybe work out which the audio chip is?
ST-Ericsson CPCAP 3.2 will be the one you're after, I believe.

Yes, audio perception is subjective, but, based on my ears, RAZR has better audio. I am using same IEMs, the Westone UM3Xs universal IEMs and Unique Melody Mage Custome IEMs for listening. RAZR has an audio signature or quality as good as my Sony Walkman NWZ-X1000; which is the best Walkman ever. Also better than N1 and SGS.
The audio amp power seem to be higher than any phones' I ever had, and it is really a good thing for me. Guess what, during phone calls, I set to MINIMUM, if I am using IEMs, and I find it still loud.
BTW, I am listening to RAZR without any audio effect or EQ.

+1 on audio power of Razr...
it's only took half volume from my defy to drive my iem
n you could try to install DSP Manager from CM to get more improvement on music quality
but, i feel my old defy with miui rom n miui player produce more detail n natural sound than this Razr, also the speaker sound crappy... i hope it will improve after burn in IMO
Check the audio quality review in this link:

According to GSMArena, the audio quality is better that the SGS II, but worse than the iPhone 4

do not forget, in Razr, in the Settings -- Sound -- Audio Effects, you can adjust the loudness of the razr,
for me, I use Extreme Bass without 3D effect and bass are beautiful
By defaut, it adjusted on Great Bass
Bass is neat, high notes are discreet but not painful, best balanced sound reproduction I have heard since the W980(walkman maestro).....
I am using with an Audiotechnica IEMs and it is the best out there...
Dey u have to try an iphone4
On SoundMAGIC E10 IEM's RAZR owns :]
amazing mobile player, best I ever had (Nokia N73, N95, N82, iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4)
Other (better?) results can be achieved with a tweaking of the audio drivers (talking of the headphones), probably.

That good to here as I have some on order.
Should be here in a couple of days, can't wait.
How does this device compare to the Atrix?
I have the Atrix with Poweramp & Flac files & it's pretty damn good. Just wondered if anyone has comapred the two devices & which is the better?
Cheers

Many thanks for the reply.
The sound with a set of Bose in ear head phones is phenominal.
It's not exactly at Galaxy S with Voodoo Sound levels, but it's definitely above average. Just make sure you've turned the sound enhancements off.
I use Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 IEMs on the go, and the good old Grado SR60i's at home.

Much better than my old sgs2. Tested with both Sennheiser HD555 (high impedance large supra aural) and Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 (low impedance small iem).
It drive the senn without problem. With sgs2 i need my small fiio amp to obtain good result.

I have never heard an ATRIX, but I found that RAZR's sound is pretty good (Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10). As said above, it is nothing like Galaxy S's Wolfson with voodoo sound, but it is AWESOME in comparison to Galaxy SII ****ty Yamaha DAC.
I sold my Galaxy SII specifically due to it's ****ty DAC, build quality and useless GPS. Razr is pretty slow and has a ridiculous screen panel (mine come with 1 dead pixel), but at least it's build quality is a thousand times better than any Samsung's phone. Oh, point to RAZR's GPS, it is insanely fast and powerful.
Well, I hope we get soon a nice ROM that sends all motorola **** to hell and unlocks the RAZR's true power.
Good luck with your RAZR.

Compared to what? Seems pretty fast to me.

Compared to the Galaxy S II, yes, it is noticeably slower.
Although I didn't find the S II's GPS useless, the RAZR is better in that regard, and I'd say it's the GLONASS support that does it.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
I didn't even noticed that razr has glonass... And I must say: this russian thing rocks. GSII gps may not be useless, but it is still worse than a lot of other cellphones.
In terms of speed, razr's boot is the thing that is really annoying and makes me sad when I remember GSII extremely fast boot. At least, when everything is loaded up there's no pain in razr usability.
I think that razr's slowness is a bit due to moto**** bloatware, but specially due to worse access speed between RAM and OMAP, when in comparison to GSII RAM and Exynos. I would suggest slower flash memory, but it seems that razr's flash can be even faster in some cases. I haven't any conclusive data to this hypothesis, but based on what I know, seems to be razr's slowness reason.
Well, razr is pretty new in market yet, so there is still hope for us in getting a better software, giving us a faster phone.
Think you've hit the proverbial nail there. Moto make lovely hardware, but the software on the RAZR is rather...odd.
Although if what I've heard is true, the RAZR was rushed to get product on shelves for Christmas, and was intended to ship with ICS - both the hurried gingerbread port from the Bionic/Droid 3 flavour of Blur and the decision to release a 'GSM variant' when both the XT910 & XT912 (appear to) have exactly the same hardware with locked down radios were apparently last minute changes. Or so rumour would have it.
On the Samsung front, the Note has GLONASS support and benefits enormously from it, so that should be the end of their positioning woes going forward.

What type of sound question is this? Are you wanting to know how it sounds playing music files with the built in speaker? Voice sound quality?
Never used an Atrix but the Razr sounds great. No complaints here

I am wanting to know how it sounds through a pair of quality earphones with a good music player, preferably play Flac's.
The Atrix is very good but I wanted a larger screen. The razr ticks most boxes but I didn't want to take step backwards in the quality of music reproduction.
Can you shed some light?
just want to share with what I noticed today.was at a local shopping center, saw a stall selling mobile accessories, they have a casing for razr, which they claim improves sound from the tear speaker.I tried it on, honestly utter improves sound quality.
What it does is that it has some tunnels running around on the inside of the casing, enabling the sound waves to propagate to appropriate exit points, resulting in surrounds like sound.. It actually works.. But the price tag its ridiculously high.. So I did not buy it.. anyone else saw this housing? Some weird China brand.. Can't seem to find or on internet.

I have Razr, Atrix and Defy and I find they all have very close and decent sound(through jack), unless you use dollar store head phones, you might well be plugging into your butt. Speaker phone and ear piece, another story.
When I first listened to the razr with my Grado SR80i headphones, I was rather disapointed. After that, I found out the phone had some ****ty equalizer turned on for headphones. Once I turned that off, it sounded fine.

Cool, but which one has the edge, Atrix or Razr? Which do you prefer to use to listen to on a more regular basis?
Ta
Okay, i cant give the edge to either. Both are about the same volume maxed out and neither has more lows or highs than the other. I just blast my ears for 10 mins doing various hot swaps, and prolonged listening, to one intense orchestral song with some serious tones. This was a side by side, with same headphones, and eq options off using stock motoplayer with both set to volume one notch from full. I am not a bat or dog, but perhaps they could hear the diff.

I would just want to know how the DNA speaker compares to the iphone 5. I think the 5 has an amazing loud speaker which delivers great full sound and some bass, unlike some tinny HTC ones.
I just want to get a phone that has a good speaker, I don't like the boring iOS. So doed the speaker on the DNA have fuller sound is it louder?

The DNA has a good speaker capable of being quite loud. However, many pre installed notifications and ring tones are rather quiet on my opinion.

i have to disagree. even with the built in amp, IMO, the ip5 blows this thing out the water.
speaker volume is much louder on the ip5, music output thru headphones is much louder and crisper on the ip5, and bluetooth volume and quality for music is much better with the ip5.
I still chose to get rid of it because I was bored with it, but I tested both side by side for a while before making my final decision. The ip5 is a superior audio device.
to be honest, the speaker in the DNA is amazing. it sounds 50x better than the rezound did, and it's finally got some more bass and low end like the galaxy nexus did.

So which one is louder?

The only audio gripe I have with my DNA is that the sound gets muffled easily since the speaker is on the back. Other than that it sounds great!

I have both and the iPhone 5 has a better speaker. Not much louder but just enough to be noticeable.
Sent from my Droid DNA
Personally, I think the DNA has a better speaker after listening to both play the same song side by side. The iphone's speaker just doesn't have the depth of sound that the DNA's does. But whatever, I guess it depends on your personal preference. I really only use the phone speaker for the phone, and earbuds for music, so I'm not too picky.
The only phone that's safe to say has a better speaker than i5 is the Lumia 920, the sound is full and a lot louder.
But Windows phone is really boring.

have you listened to the dna via bluetooth in a car stereo? Or with bluetooth headphones?
Have you plugged up headphones to both? Im not iphone fanboy, I just know Ive had a iPhone 4s and 5, and AUDIO wise, they are superior to the DNA. Im not saying the DNA is bad, it is better than any other HTC device ive had, but even with beats audio, in MY OPINION apple devices hold a clear advantage. I even went and purchased a second hand ipod nano just to make up for the difference because I want apple audio quality but dont want to give up my dna.

i've tried bluetooth headphones, but the ones i suck are terrible..those LG earbud ones that a bunch of us got for free that time verizon messed up their site lol..they're awful quality in general, and i don't have any good bluetooth headphones to test with it
Alright I've done some testing of my own and this is what my opinion on the matter is being the audiophile that I am.
Speaker quality goes to the DNA for a few reasons. The iPhone5 has a very crisp speaker but that is quickly lost the louder it gets, this is not the same on the DNA as it's clear throughout the volume level. I feel as though the depth of sound is also better on the DNA (ex: a tom hit sounds like a tom hit on the DNA. Sounds more produced and false on the iPhone5).
Clear winner for Bluetooth headphones goes to the iPhone5 as volume tends to be quieter when using the DNA. Clarity is identical. (Tested using CD-BT603)
Now for the wired headset. Using Bose OE2, bass and treble is a big win for DNA as the sound produced is very big and very clear. Not that the iPhone5 isn't, it's just not as great as the DNA. Middles seemed to be just about the same and couldn't pick a winner.
All and all both of these phones create a great sound, but the winner in my opinion is the DNA. This was also tested with beats off as I have never been a big fan of the sound it produces outside of rap junk and maybe country.

I am glad that you agree with me
My point is proven again...but honestly the OP needs to do his own research because on this website you will find nothing but people who disagree and always want to prove other people wrong..I personally believe that the DNA is the winner but clearly we have people that think that the IP5 is the best.
So now that you have our opinions...I would do my own research and pick what you like best.
Objectively the iPhone has a higher quality sound, at least through the headphones:

OK so I just went to the Verizon store with my friend and we compared songs on the speaker of her i5 and the DNA and I have to say the DNA produces some decent lows and mids, it seems to have more bass thanks to the beats amp.
But still iPhone 5 seems just a little louder, there might be an app for the DNA to boost the volume without distortion hopefully

anyone else having this issue? i just bought this today and my iphone 5 speaker was louder than this. only time its somewhat loud if you lay it on a surface but thats because it amplifies it.
I also think its not as loud as my s3 but it sounds way clearer

Sound quality is a bit of a subjective thing (unless you're an audiophile). Personally, I think the beats eq sucks and introduces a lot of background noise and generally sounds like crap. The amp in the DNA can drive some larger headphones, but I wouldn't say it's stellar. I'm not sure about the DNA/One comparison, but I assume they're similar.
