[Q] Does UMTS networked evo 3d = GSM? - HTC EVO 3D

Folks,
I just bought two new HTC EVO 3D's from Rogers. They came loaded with crap apps that can't be removed and that doesn't sit well with me.
What I know today: HBOOT=1.49.0008 and they're S-ON.
I'm not entirely sure if the GSM rooting instructions I found here (by happyhillsy8) apply as they run over the Rogers UMTS network. As I understand it, UMTS is a GSM variant.
Question:
1 - Do GSM rooting instructions apply to these devices?
2 - How do you determine which ROM version they have?
Thanks in advance

well there are a few different ways to root the 3d. The simplest and most effective imo is revolutionary (revolutionary.io). The program is compatible with the evo 3d gsm with your hboot, just make sure you dont upgrade it before using the program. the complete list can be found here:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
as for determining which rom, im not quite sure what you mean. You can figure out which rom you have by going into your settings and looking at your software information. If you're asking about which roms work on the gsm 3d, theres a whole gsm developement section.
Cheers. I just got my evo 3d (cdma) a few hours ago, and rooted with revolutionary. running infectedrom. works great

[Q] How to SIM unlock htc evo 3D

i just got the rogers version of the htc evo 3d and i want to unlock it so it works with any carrier. How do I do this? Whats the best way to do this and is it free or will i have to pay? Any help is appreciated thanks.

Moving to Q&A
I have a Rogers Evo, unlocked, go here: http://www.mobifree.ca/
costs $10, just need to provide them your IMEI.
Got mine in a few hours.
*edit
holy necrobump
CellUnlocker worked for me
I have a Rogers Evo 3D too and I got it unlocked through cellunlocker dot net for ~$8. Just as amace04 did, I provided my IMEI and within an hour and a half they sent me the code which it seemed to work without a hitch (haven't had a chance to test the data side of it). I will pass back here and update this, after I test it properly in a few weeks.
As promised I am checking back in. I am in Jamaica using the phone which was unlocked from Rogers. So far I have used it with SIM cards from 2 mobile networks here and everything works perfectly (both voice and data). My only complaint which has nothing to do with phone or unlocking service is that 3G coverage outside of the major cities is sparse.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515a using XDA App
This worked for me, and it was free. Apparently for GSM (with s-off) models only.
Wish I owned a GSM device when I'm out of the us. Is the GSM model capable of working in the U.S?

Hmmm I thought it was S-OFF because I was rooted, I was tired when I rooted my phone (Did Taxes earlier that night).
I now notice that it S-ON. How do you S-OFF? Do you need a wire (Like I remember flashing the firmware on my Nintendo DS having to physically complete a circuit I suppose enabled write access)?
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-gain-s-off-on-htc-evo-3d-with-revolutionary/
That method doesn't seem to need a wire, but I already have Revolutionary and see no option for S-OFF. It also mentions a beta key, but I never needed one to download Revolutionary, TBH I don't even remember where I got it from.

Ramjet's guide is the easiest to follow to get s-off. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
That says Spring and Virgin Mobile only, I'm with Rogers

flashing htc evo 3d

My 3d evo is flash to pager plus right now will it be easy for me to flash it verizon prepaid and would i have to change a lot or little everything is working
It will be just as easy/hard as it was to flash to your current carrier. If you don't know how to do it, I suggest you find someone who does.

[Q] Flash a VirginMobile EvoV to Sprint?

Sorry for this question if it's been asked already. I see the thread on flashing evo3d to VM, but not other way.
Is there an easy way to flash a Virgin Mobile HTC Evo V to Sprint? I'm wondering if it is as easy as running the sprint RUU flash.
i'm happy with a rooted stock evo3d ROM with Wimax, is that possible?
There is a fire sale for the Evo V, so this looks viable to replace my OG EVO 4G.
Thanks.
edit: my bad,,, I'm reviewing the flash to VM thread and I forget that is will require a donor phone and the whole bunch of stuff. So i don't think this is as easy as running the RUU!!!

[Q] Possible to flash HTC Evo 3D to work on au KDDI?

Hello all.
I've searched through forums here on XDA as well as other sites on internet for an answer to this and nothing so far. I own the HTC Evo V 4G (Evo 3D for Virgin Mobile) and I love the phone, especially after flashing the new radio firmware and MidnightRom. I just found out though that I have come up on military assignment to Japan. I know the mobile carrier au KDDI has the same phone in Japan (HTC EVO 3D ISW12HT) and that they have WiMax coverage in the area I'm going. My question is: is there a way to flash this phone to operate on au by KDDI networks? I've researched the Japanese flavor of this phone and as far as I can tell it is the same phone spec-wise and both can operate on the same CDMA bands. I assume I would need to flash new radios for KDDI, but would I need to flash a stock KDDI RUU.executive altogether? If I had to flash to KDDI stock ROM, could it be flashed with a custom ROM after? The specs for my phone configuration are below:
Software: MidnightRom 1.3.9
Model: PG86100
Android: 4.0.3
Kernel: 3.0.52-ck1-Anthrax
Baseband: 1.09.00.0706
Build: 1.13.652.2_R2
PRI: 153_144
PRL: 61009
HBOOT: 1.57.000 Stock (Locked)
Recovery: TWRP 1.1.1
S-OFF: JBear method
I know how to and have flashed almost everything on this phone when given good instructions. The only thing I haven't flashed on this is the Hboot but I know how to do that as well and should have no issues now that I'm on custom ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated and please, before you go and say it can't be done have some proof to back it up. I have seen this phone flashed to almost every CDMA carrier there is. The only thing I know of that might be an issue is if the US and Japanese KDDI has different partitions or mount points for the phones internal partitions, otherwise the phone is pretty resilient for what is supposed to be a carrier "locked" phone. Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, there's only two things I can think of. The first isn't very likely:
au KDDI may be able to flash phones from other carriers. My current service (MetroPCS) allows for that. They'll reprogram the phone to work on their service. I'm really not sure if au KDDI does that.
The next thing I can think of:
Buy a phone from them (a cheap one) and have it activated. Then use it as a donor phone to swap the ESN/MEID on to your Evo 3D. I think Boost Mobile users and Virgin Mobile users do this to flash Sprint Evo 3D's on their service. Setting all legality aside, I think it would definitely work since they are both the same model and both CDMA. Although, you would need to obtain au KDDI's programming information & PRL somehow, which probably exists somewhere on the internet (ie the MMS settings, data settings, etc.). I'm sure you could even flash any ROM you wanted to.
It's not too hard of a concept, there are similar guides for other services, for example this:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/460035-evo-4g-boost-mobile-guide-evo-3d.html
Maybe you could be the first to come up with a solution?
Thanks for the helpful and informative reply. I have seen a tutorial similar to the one you linked with a way to flash the HTC Evo V 4G to Straight Talk (basically prepaid Sprint network to prepaid Verizon network) by using a fairly inexpensive 3G capable donor phone for the ESN/MEID. The only downside was that the phone lost 4G (WiMax) capability and they were some tweaks/mods to get MMS working. I believe SMS was functional. If I did something like this, I would really like to keep the WiMax capabilities of this phone as even though I don't have WiMax here where I live, WiMax is available where I'm going (apparently WiMax has really expanded in Japan in comparison to the US). I will see what I can work out. Hopefully au KDDI offers phone flashing services, but I have read they are more stringent in their policies of locking/unlocking phones than here in the States. If someone knows of a tutorial somewhere on the net or has done this before and can post a tutorial I'd greatly appreciate it

You need to go to the EVO 4G forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-evo-4g
The EVO View 4G is a 7" tablet made by HTC for Sprint. http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/htc-evo-view-4g/4505-3126_7-34555254.html
It is a bit confusing for Sprint's line of HTC devices, much like Verizon's Droid line, where they use a similar naming convention.
There's the EVO 4G, the 4.3" smartphone.
Then there's the EVO Shift 4G, a smartphone with a physical keyboard.
Then there's the EVO View 4G, a tablet based on the HTC Flyer (which is the first device mentioned in this forum's title).
Then there's the EVO 4G LTE, a smartphone based on the HTC One X but modified to be the successor to the EVO 4G.
