[Q] e: can't mount - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone got disconnected improperly when transferring files from my laptop in USB mode. Long story short I have tried many different files thru Odin but only Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5 is the only one that allows my phone to work but I have no access to download any files as my internal card is not being recognized by phone or any computer I hook up phone with and yes I have the correct drivers and yes ADB does work.
When I go into recovery I see the message:
Moviand Checksum Conformatyion Fail
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(no suc file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
copy default media content failed
Please help and tell me some way to fix

try a different computer? or format the drive?

Need to format internal storage i believe

Not able to format the internal drive. Thru settings nothing happens and phone not recognized when i plug into pc.

You might google eugenes froyo that will not brick, I have to use it to flash from eclair to froyo almost every time, follow the op. It will take you back to recovery, then use command or battery pull to reboot. Hope this helps.

Can you even get into download mode?

Yes i can get into download mode. Yes I have tried to use Eugenes no brick froyo but when I then try to download to stock I am not able to get past the boot screen. I think it has to do with something with the internal drive corrupted. any ohther suggestions?

I think I had the same problem and trying to follow the directions I found the XDA didn't help. I was actually able to boot using the Eugene No brick FROYO but it still showed my internal memory as being unavailable. See my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637508
I gave up and sent it to Samsung. I just checked the status today and they had to replace the motherboard.
Check out for first post and try to format the internal memory. If you have the same problem as me and can't find the internal memory, you might be out of luck my friend.

Hero RecoveryROM wont detect via usb, SDCard not mounted etc!! Help please?

Hi, people...
Just wondering if there is a way out of my situation, last night I installed the latest recovery image (RA-hero-v1.5.3.1), prior to that I put the latest Villian Rom on to update, but I think I messed things up, with some of the new menus in the Recovery rom as I accidently hits a few things :-(
Messages I'm getting are on almost every option I try is : E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0 (no such file or directory)
and
E:Can't mount SDCARD:/nandroid/
If I try any other options aswell I get "Error: Run 'bart' via adb" which is no good when I get the adb messages as for some reason my windows 7 pc has stopped detecting the phone in adb mode?!
The normal Hero bootloader get's detected fine in windows, is there anything I can do here to restore the system. I think some messages flashed by saying missing image! Which don't sound good.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
if you have access to fastboot as you say, I'm sure you could fastboot recovery (just in case there's some weird issue there), then format the SD card and restore from a nandroid backup on your PC (I hope you took a copy of the backup on a PC).
Other than that, you might need to wait on someone like kendong2 to spread his words of wisdom here, as he seems good at solving stuff like this.

Thanks for the advice, my heart started pounding very hard when you mentioned about the nandroid backup being backed up! Luckily, I done an SD card backup a few weeks ago and found the folder, phew.
Sorry for being a little foolish, but when you say do a fastboot recovery how is this done in the bootloader, i'll search google in the mean time. To format my sd card im going to have to get usb adapter I presume as you can't format the SD card from bootloader? Correct me if im wrong.

Thanks for the reply. Nothing comes up at all anymore, I can't see any changes when I plug in the device under recovery mode, and even when selecting the USB-MS mode, nothing is detected or shown on the USB devices list. However, when I first tried originally it came up with the device not recognised.
Got to get myself a SD USB adapter first to format the card.... so I'll give that a try.
Ok, got myself a USB adapter to format SD Card, i've put my backup of everying back on. I now understand about how to use the fastboot command via command prompt etc....
Where do I go from here? What commands to type etc.. I've looked at the options but cannot seem to use flashall command succesfully.
The device is listed when typing fastboot devices, so I take it that's one good thing for a start!
Again, thanks for any help with this.
Just another question does the SD card have to be formatted specially? Ie partitioned etc... perhaps this is why I can't get it mounted under the recovery options. Because I accidently done one of the partion options and from then on I had all the problems.....

USB Storage Damaged

So i was about to check something on the internet by using 3g data, but for some reason the 3g wasnt working, so i thought id refresh the phone by giving it a fresh reboot.
Upon doing so, after the phone fully rebooted, i got a notification in the notification bar 'Usb Storage Damaged' with sub-text 'Usb storage damaged. It may need reformatting'.
I have checked and i can access everything in CWM recovery, so therefore backing up the stuff i want/need shouldnt be a problem.
My question is, that is there a way to fix this WITHOUT reformatting?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Ideally copy off the data first so you have a backup then run chkdsk in Windows as it's FAT32.

Hi, I have a similar problem on my unrooted S2.. I have read that using chkdsk in Windows on an unrooted phone wont work (and didn't when I tried). I don't mind rooting, though I'm not sure if I could even do this while there is a USB storage error. I have hours of recorded lectures on my phone, and exams coming up soon so I am desperate not to reformat if possible!
I've been using my phone without USB storage for about 2 weeks now trying find a fix, and I guess this is my last hope, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your answer , But when I connect my phone to the PC and choose USB storage ,all I get is grayed out I and J drives.
how do I preform a CHKDSK? I tried running CHKDSK.exe but it doesn't seem to do anything (it says it's in read -only mode) .
EDIT:
I got it ,it's working again ,a couple of restarts and connecting \disconnecting to pc solved it.
as for CHKDSK.exe I copied it to the sd card and ran it from there.
thanks a lot
Hi,
I have a similar problem...
My SGSII battery ran out and when I started the phone after recharge, it started to give an error that the internal storage is damaged and also stopped to recognize the microSD card.
The microSD connected to the PC it is recognized and does not accuse error with chkdsk. I tried to format the MicroSD (on the phone) and then to mount it, but it does work.
Also, connecting the phone to PC in mass storage mode simply shows teh drive letters, I can't access the drives.
I did not want to format the internal storage before be able to copy my data, and I think the problems are related.
I managed to mount and access the internal storage using the terminal emulator (running on the phone) using the command
mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p11 /sdcard/
But the rest of the system does not recognize even after this procedure, and I don't know the command to do the same with the MicroSD; or copying data to a PC to then try to wipe or factory reset.
I've tried to reinstall the ROM with ODIN and did not solved the problem.
Also tried to install CWM recovery, but it can not mount / sdcard (gives error).
Could anyone help me?
Thank you!

[Q] Hyperdroid 5.2.21 cant access internal sdCard

Hey ppl..
I just flashed Hyperdroid v5.5.21 on my GT-I9100 and it really worked like a charm until i flashed docs mated black surgeon over it and restarted it once.. now i cant access my internal sdcard, when i connect it to a pc with a usb cable, it does not mount anything and i also do not have any access to any of my data with my files browser.
Now everytime i flash the surgeon over the system, i do have full access on my files but as soon as i do restart my phone (regardless of which kind of restart i choose, meaningly recovery download or normal) i loose access to them.
CWM 5.0.2 also cant mount the sdcard or usb storage and comes up with a failure message about cant mount /sdcard and something about.. Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)when trying to mount the usb storage but i do not think that it is directly related to the rom..
please help me, because i really want to use that rom cus it kicks ass but if that issue continues, i will have to go back to lightening or something like it.
Ive asked the same question over at the androidmeda forum. Pongster said that the file 01efs in /system/etc/init.d should be removed. It worked! So if anyone else gets this fail.. Just remove that file.

[Q] Connect mass storage via CWM recovery

I've recently flashed my phone with Nemesis kernel using Flashtool, and installed "MoonBreaker 3.5". Unfortunately it is horribly, horribly broken so I have tried to do a full wipe and reinstall. This also failed to work, and somehow wiped my internal storage, so now I have no kernels or roms available on this phone.
The phone boots, but the market doesn't work, downloads app doesn't work, there is no file explorer and no network connection. The phone will not mount as usb storage when booted, or when in CWM recovery. When booted it gives me an "MTP USB Device - Failed" message after attempting to install drivers (win7 and winxp). When in CWM it does nothing at all.
Therefore my question is, how on earth do I get files onto my phone now?

What model of phone do you have? I had the same problem with the Sola (I insanely forgot copy .zip on sdcard before flashing bootloader) and i solved copying the archive on external SD then with CWM selecting Install zip from external sd. Of course this method is not valid if you have Xperia U. In this case or in another case where you haven't any external SD slot try reading this guide.
I have an Xperia P, sorry the forum denied my edit for some reason. Thanks for your ideas!
I've had some success booting into fastboot then, while it's connected, switching to flash mode. Stock kernel reinstalled! Thanks for your help!!

[Q] Help! No ROM, USB not recognised!!

Hi all,
First off, get the laughs out the way. Not posted on here before but used the forum a lot over the past year or so and i desperatley need someones help.
Long story short.
1) Currently i can only access CMR 6.0.3.2
2) I have no ROM available on int SD due to doing a system wipe while flashing Cyanogenmod 11 nightly which failed due to Status 7 error ( did not think this error would happen!)
3) My PC & Laptop will not recognise the S3 through USB despite all correct drivers being correct.
4) CMR will not let me mount the 8GB ext SD card. I have tried formatted to NTSC and Fat 32 and both not mounting, get the mount error message.
To sum it up, im fooked. I cannot access the int SD to drop a ROM on it and cannot access the Ext SD card through recovery which DOES have a ROM on it.
Do any ofyou fantastic people have any idea what i can do apart from dress it up nicely and make an ornament out of it?
Thanks!

Yes Scott. Do not make an ornament out of it!
Okay, serious .. download the ROM of your region from sammobile.com. Install Odin on your laptop. Boot your S3 in download mode. Flash the firmware from sammobile.com on your phone using Odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2323847 - Follow this guide from step 2. No need to make the binary counter 0. It is important to recover your phone.

Hi Hamza,
Thanks for the reply. This is one of the problems noted above as that my laptop and PC will not recognise my S3 via USB. Tried different USB wires and installed various versions of the drivers, uninstalled, reinstalled etc It just will not connect be recognised.

Sorry, I thought that your phone will get recognized when in Odin mode or download mode. I am afraid I am out of tricks for now, but let me search and get back to you in case I find anything
Hello Scott,
Can you enter in Download mode on phone?
"First shut down your device, then power on by simultaneously pressing the power button, home button and volume down key. Now you will see download mode and you will be asked if you want to cancel or continue. Press volume up to continue or volume down to cancel and reboot."
For that part you don't need connection to PC (yet).
If u succeed entering in download mode, then use the link that Hamza posted, to restore your device through Odin
HI!
Its no problem to get in to download mode but as the laptop and PC will not recognise my S3, neither does Odin.
The very 1st think i knew to do was to try and flash a stock ROM via Odin, but sadly can't
I've flashed ROM's a lot however it was a rookie mistake not to make a backup on this occasion that was accessable in this situation. My backups and ROMs are on the Ext SD card....
Ive searched and the only 2 outcomes i can see to resolve are to mount my Ext SD card, which i can't do on CMR or to make the handset visible o use Odin or to drop a ROM on the Int SD but again, can't.

We have 5 or 6 USB cables for our phones around here, and only 3 work for our S3 phones. Worth a try?
One more thing crossed my mind... In CWR, did you try "mount usb storage"? Under "mounts and storage" setting.
I had a similar problem few weeks ago, changed recovery and new recovery didn't want to read exFat card...

Proceed here uninstall old samsung usb drivers too.

There is 3 methods of installing it clearly written there with step by step instructions. Hope with this method your pc recognize your phone.
If that method fails.
Like many said you have to manually insert rom files into your external sd card using a reader. I hope your problem is not similar to this guy

Hi,
Tried various USB cables and nada. Due to this Odin, Kies or anything will else will not recognise the handset and that's on a PC and a Laptop.
As for the Mass Storage in recovery, the version of CMR doesn't have that option otherwise i would have tried!
I was focusing more on trying to mount the Ext SD card on CMR. Is there any suggestions on this? Tried NTFS and Fat 32 with varying cluster sizes but not happening. Any other suggestions?

Fat32 should work, not sure about NTFS... Did u tried another card? Or removing battery and reinserting after SD card format?
Thanks for all the suggestions.... Had a family emergency.
Tried everything, i now think that there is a hardware issue with the phone as its a Code 43 error whenever i try to update the driver so the handset can talk to my PC. Seen as this option looks fooked i can only now and try to figure why the Ext SD wont mount on CMR and how to resolve it.
If i can;t then no option but to send it to the big warehouse in the Sky,
Just to exclude, did you tried another SD card?
