Hi all,
I had installed a long time the cyanogem mod mincm6, now in version 3.01, but now i have a problem.
When i go to manage application, for example "adobe reader" with 5.54MB, and click in button "move to sd-card" show me the message error "Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left".
But i have 1.4GB of the extend type ext2 partitioned.
And no way wich i have 1.4GB of the application.
Have any application that manager this partition ?
PS: I dont have application app2sd, i use the native app2sd of the cyanogem.
PS2: I find this in FAQ, but i have 8.33GB free in sd card, and no way that have used 1.4GB in application in ext 2 partition...
I CAN'T MOVE APPS TO SD, WHY?
Can't move apps to SD?? -> Format SD Card or delete hidden folders on SD Card
Make sure you have 'Allow application moving' checked in settings>cyanogenmod settings>application settings

I think that anyone responsee because have a many many post about this. Whell, i repartitioned (erased the ext partition, formated, and copied all files back to sdcard). I have now 9.73GB free in SDCARD.
But i have moved only 20MB and show me same message "Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left".
Have any file controlled for the app2sd, have any folder or something that causing this error ?
Ty a lot for any response.

Have you enabald the setting 4 it in settings_cyanogen mod set ings_application?
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
Yeah, setting is enabled in cyanogen....
link2sd will works without partitioning? If will, i will kick app2sd, hehehehe, but i nedd app2sd works... its more prudent

First its in the faq, anyway delete ext2 partition not needed.
Second delete hidden folders on sdcard with root explorer (make backup) or format enitrely. Reboot
Some apps will need to be reinstalled.

nop .... Nothing.... Same error.....
Guys,
I think that the app2sd is moving the files to a partition that he created or thought or whatever, Not have explanation to it move less than 20MB and already say that the disk is full (9.73GB free ) .
Well, am I computer programmer and i programer in C / C + + too, i am developing for Android, and digging in to the internet to see if he has C code that "program", to see where is the problem.
The App2sd is not saving in SD. This is so real, that I searched on the SD the app that I sent to SD , "adobe", and not finding this "adobe" in anywhere.
Maybe some configuration file for app2sd, or whatever ... I found that app2sd uses /sd-ext, but not found anything with the root explorer, and windows not show the internal memory.
Also not found the link it to SD, alias, where is it? Anyone know? or anyone know how the shortcuts from the drawer? So I thought misinformation.
Guys, sorry for the outburst, but I want to see if I fix this as soon as I have many applications, very heavy, and to almost no memory.
PS: I Founded some information..... the froyo a2sd save in a folder named .android_secure, that only be showed in windows or another OS, the rootexplorer can't find file sin this folder. Well, after delete again this folder and others, i moved exactly 24MB and, after, the error was showed once again. This folder is not a partition, its only a single folder in a ocean of bytes, rsssss

In another thread (don't remember which), someone mentioned that you have to start a program at least once before attempting to move apps to sd.
Worked for me
How we say in warcraft, LOL, a BIGGER BIGGEST LOL...... works vry fine.... hehehehe
Ty friend...i will moving more applications, but vry ty again.
I can moved some app to sd, around 58MB, but now i can't. Running applications do any efecct. I back to initial problem.
same so, very ty friend.

Att,
Moacir Jr,.
Perhaps there's a limit to how much space you can use on the sd-card and if so, maybe you can find answers/help in another thread to how to make more space available (devs forum i guess)
Ty again.... This is exactly what i need.... Know how much space i have in 9.73GB for app2sd and where i can configure this....
But i not found in anywhere in the internet... i stay searching....
att,
moacir jr.
I'm having the same problem. To help you analyze it, install Titanium Backup Root. When you open the app you see the space left in:
-system
-data
-app2sd sd
-sd
I never understood why there is a difference between "app2sd" and everything else on the sd. And I don't know how to make the "app2sd" part bigger.
Ty Samuel,
Well,
System ROM: 22.1 MB Free
Internal: 113 MB Free
SD Card: 10.2 GB Free
But i think that same that app2sd uses Internal memory for cache or Ram memory, that have around 20 MB free, have space to move one application of the 3MB...
In this case, i need how much app2sd uses to move application on SD card.
Its very very stranger...
At,
Moacir Jr.
Huh that's strange.
I uninstalled Titianium Backup a while ago, I only knew that in v2.5 I always noticed that difference.
Well in v3.03 I don't see the app2sd part anymore. I have the same parts as you.
I'll test a little bit more and I'll let you know when I discover why "sd" and "app2sd" is not the same.
Well,
Guys, since as not working for me the a2sd with cyanogen, have any troble if i install and use link2sd with cyanogen 3.03 ? I question why i used lin2sd wich android 2.1 from SE, and works just fine....
Question responded: Link2sd Works fine. If any1 have any problem with a2sd, and can't solve, simple, change to link2sd.

Hi everyone,
First of all i would like to thank the developers over here doing a wonderful job,
Ok so this is what i have at the moment:
clockwork recovery installed
Flashed Neojn's devoid #froyo final ROM
franco's kernel v17
now i've followed the guides over here on partitioning and installing, but seem to be doing wrong some where..
Ok on to the questons:
1)Is this Partitioning and darktremor's A2SD flashing to be done before or after install of ROM, i did it after ROM install
2) In Clockwork... there is only an option to create partition but i don't find any option to select the format like ext 2 or ext 3 or ext 4... why is this..?
3) Ok After flashing Darktremor's A2SD (by selecting install zip from location)... i don't see any app icon related to it, how can i know that its working..
4) I went to application manager and checked my previously installed applications, they all have move to sd card greyed out, is it still on phone memory or on the ext partition..
5) i checked by installing a new apk which normally installs in phone memory.. i checked it in application manager.. it too had "move to SD card greyed out" did this app install in ext or phone memory..?
6) I have not been able to locate ext partition in root explorer.. where should be it located, although my memory card size seems to have been reduced after the partition...?
7) How can i transfer dalvich cache to ext partition, should i type in the commands after installing the emulator...
Sorry but i don't seem to get it..
1. First partition, then rom, then a2sd
2. Clockwork only creates ext4 partition
3. From adb or terminal emulator type su, then 'a2sd check' , and it will show you the status.
4. After installing a2sd, the phone treats the ext partition as internal memory (in other words it is tricked) and by default all apps get installed to this partition.
5. So all apps will show that they have installed in phone memory but they are in ext parition. You can check if this is activated by using a2sd check or if you want to check for yourself, navigate to /system/sd (froyo) or /sd-ext (GB) through root explorer and you will see the apps installed there.
6. And obviously, if you have 2 gb card, inherently it is not 2 gb but 1.7 GB, and then if you create a paritition of 512 MB and then if you check in settings it will show sd card space 1.7 - 0.5 = 1.2 GB.
7. To transfer dalvik to ext partition type via terminal or adb, su, then 'a2sd cachesd'. The phone will reboot.
For more commands in a2sd, type 'a2sd help' (after giving su permissions of course) .
If u dont want typing ,download a2sdgui from market and check if its installed it will show details ,otherwise automatic close ,you can check if apps are installed in internal or ext ,and can also move dalvik to ext through this app.
So give it a try ,if u facing any problems then u can pm me.

Thanks mate, i'll download it from market and post my findings here...
You're welcome I forgot a2sdgui, because i prefer the commands, get it from market, it will provide a GUI to those commands.
OK mates
I have located the ext partition using root explorer in system/sd, really i am relieved now, thank GOD
I ran A2SDgui, it started, i have the led on for "Apps are on SD button", however its off for "zipalign on boot" and "swap is deactivated" anyone knows what they do?
Whats the low memory tab for ?, by default its set to "strict low memory settings"
Under system info - general info
I have got SD-ext using some space, this shows its working i suppose, and whats the /cache/ i have total of 64mb and 63mb is free, what does that do?
And Suppose if i want say for a widget to be on phone memory, how do i turn off this feature just for that ?
One final question, Where does clock work recovery mod actually live in phone, is it possible that we can delete it and brick our phone, i always thought that flashing a new rom wipes everything on phone including clockwork, but i am wrong i suppose...
Sorry for my never ending questions .. but i am curious
Finally i am free from that dreaded low memory message, thanks to people over here
Don't touch the zipalign, swap and low memory settings unless you know what you are doing.
The recovery resides on a separate mount-point ( separate partition if you will) and flashing a rom does not erase it.
Unfortunately, with DT a2sd you cannot selectively choose which apps should be on internal or on ext partition. For that check out Link2sd on the market. It will allow you choose which apps to put on ext and which on internal. Keep in mind, if you want to use link2sd then it's best to use it on a fresh flash as a2sd and ink2sd don't work together.
The cache partition is another partition which stores cache files and as a temporary download location. Don't worry about it.

Thanks a ton bro. I have decided to stay with A2SD for now. will move to link 2 SD when a Rom based on the official gingerbread becomes available. BTW do you have any links that explain link2sd in detail..

Oh, I don't know; see the market description, or as always, google is your friend!
This thread answered a lot of my doubts about the partitioning. However, i did not understand if the card should be partitioned after or before the install of the ROM? Will there be a problem if it is done after because I am getting a 16GB card tomorrow but I've already flashed a custom ROM using the 2GB stock lg card? Or should i re-do everything again to be safe?

for your first question, it should be partitioned BEFORE you flash the rom and other stuffs
also dont forget to read the pink words in my signiture
and for card changing, its simple:
first make a nandroid backup, choose all stuffs including ext-partition
then partition your new card (better the same size as before idk just feeling better with that)
nandroid full restore.
and reboot then all things will be cool dont have to redo stuffs
but for the worst situations better make a full titanium before changing the card!
good luck and hope i helped
Hello all!
I installed the newest version of Miui ( MIUI 1.12.9 ) and i got some questiont..
Its all fine but i got one problem, i cant find my apps i had.. i did a factory reset in cwm and all but i didnt wiped my sd card.. my memory sais that there is 4GB of 11GB free so, my sd card still has the data in it, but it seems that i can not access on it? Someone had the same problem or do you have a solution?! please i dont know what to do.
Thanks for all answers!
you cant expect the apps to be there when you dont do a backup...the files on your sd are not the apps...that are just the files the app creates...you had to backup them with titanium backup for example...all you can do now is to download the apps from market...i guess it should work then.
jesh, that works i tried it, dl an app from market installed it and worked.. but ok, how to wipe my sd card?? and why i cant copy my contacts from sim card? and is there no app drawer?? or only the homescreens? thanks

You have to install app again..becoz /sdcard only stored data
sry im not miui user i cant tell you that much about it...if you wanna wipe sd either you can do it through settings or you simply delete anything on your sd card...and miui has no appdrawer...if you want that download it seperatly...google for miui sites and read a bit then youll find what you want to know
MIUI doesnt have an app draw, it has home screens much like you would find on iOS.
If you want and app draw and MIUI you would need to use a different launcher (ADW,GoLauncher, ect).
As it has been answered already, the files in your sd card are only files used by the applications. However i have noticed when i used MIUI for a while that some apps would install to the sd card and need to be moved manually.
From memory so it might be wrong, go in to settting and go to storage and there should be an option there to mount/unmount internal sd card, you should be able to format it from there.
hello, noobs here! i just want to ask how can i set up app2sd on my galaxy ace. im using jusada's ICS right now, and i heard that rom support darktremor A2SD enabled, so my assumption is, i just partitioning my SD card, so the rest will working by itself.
now i have partitioned my SDCARD, but when i restart my phone, it didnt happend and still the same, even my sdcard memory decrease.
so my question is:
how to set it correctly?

thanks but i think i found something on manage application menu. go to Settings > applications > manage applications, then tap the SD Card menu, just choose the application you want to move to memory card.
whats the diferent between this and s2e?

The big difference between what you're doing and what I'm doing is..
1) Your trick is totally manual. Means, you will have to move each application one by one to the SDCard & also from what you're moving apps to sdcard, will leave "some" data (esp dalvik cache) of that app in actual device memory. So you won't have the full advantage of moving an app. You will have some saturation point at some time.. like even if all of your apps were moved to SDcard and you have about ~60 apps installed, but each app will leave some data to your device memory. & That's why at some point your device memory will get full.
While in mine (using S2E), I have created a partition which totally works like a built-in memory. Whatever I install, ALL gets automatically installed in that partition. which actually saves a lot more actual device memory.
2) You can not move Widget supporting app to the SDCard. It won't work.
While in mine, Everything in that 1GB partition can work even as a Widgets too. Which again means totally functioning as a device memory.
3) I also observed that, when I connect my SGA with computer through USB Mass Storage (Which actually gives more transfer speeds than adb push commands), all my apps which saved in 1GB partition stay active completely. So it takes a lot less time while scanning SDCard for media after removing from USB mass storage.

My i9300 is nealy unusable. The first sign of trouble was a error message trying to open gallery on 4.1.2. I then flashed latest omegarom after wipeing everything didnt solve the problem just gives a better description.
"There is not enough space (-5371MB) in your device memory. Delete some files" In settings the internal storage has 5.36GB free. I have been trying out a few different roms over the last few days but have always full wiped.
Now a lot of my apps force close on launch. How can my internal storeage be showing to some apps as a minus but the system gets the correct free space. I did have a play around with ExtDs2InternalSd v5 but decided to to swap back.
Hope someone can help me..Thanx in advance..

Then this is your problem did you follow proper uninstall instructions for ExtDs2InternalSd v5 >> If you want to remove the mod with a file explorer with root ability, delete the file 11extsd2internalsd from etc/init.d folder <<
If that does not work you will need to flash new rom and full wipe..

Yes back up internal and external sd cards and format both..make sure you format any ext2 partitions on your external sd card with minitool partition wizard or equivalent formatting tool.
