Hello guys =)
Since I installed the newest version of the CWM Recovery (5.0.2.0) I'm unable to do anything in the recovery menu.
It just happens nothing when selecting something. (Not even reboot or power off).
Is there a way to get another (older?) version ?
Help is much appreciated

Are you on htc unlocked Hboot 1.50? I'm having similar issues:

You asked for recovery and timezone12 gave you what you needed. Why did you flashed that by choosing kernel option in Flash image GUI???? It should be flashed on recovery partition. You have flashed a recovery on boot partition of your EVO 3D!!!!!! Even the name of img starts with the word "recovery".
If you can boot in bootloader > select fastboot > connect to PC > open cmd prompt > navigate to your fastboot folder in cmd > type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-shooter.img" (make sure you put "recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-shooter.img" in fastboot folder of your PC.)
After that recovery should work (if it does not work flash this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=803714&d=1322926029 ,change commands according to file name)
Then you will need to flash another kernel/restore Nandroid/another Rom.....as you have flash a recovery on boot partition. There is no kernel on your phone right now.

I tried to DL that file to see what you recommended and got the following popup:
"cwm.rar is unsafe to download and was blocked by SmartScreen Filter" (ie9 Download mgr). Never seen that before. Usually Norton is more uptight about DL's. Any idea why?

It shouldnt be a problem as its the same rar file of the recovery which Zedomax packed
Yea, I see. I tried to open the screenshot "I posted" and got the attached warning. Don't know why IE9 is identify the xda attachment site as malware/viruses. Maybe it's a forerunner to SOPA/PIPA!
There isn't an option to overide the warning and DL the file anyway.
FYI: the cwm 4014 img in Attn1's post has the same md5 as the one zedomax packaged.

There are definitely a few options and a few things to be aware of.
HTC official unlock does NOT unlock kernel/boot write access while in the custom recovery mode. Still is helpful to flash the custom recovery as all other features will work from recovery mode, just not the ability to write to the kernel/boot partition.
This means there are only two modes you can flash the kernel from, either fastboot mode (requiring a computer) or standard Android mode, for which I made a handy application, Flash Image GUI.
1) Using my application, Flash Image GUI, will allow you to flash custom kernels and also select ROM .zip files, and then load the kernel out of the ROM .zip, while then booting into recovery mode to load the rest of the ROM (system portion). My application will also allow you to flash the recovery.img or any .zip file containing the recovery .img.
2) Using the fastboot mode there are two ways to flash a kernel, both require being connected to another device, generally a computer.
2-A) fastboot boot c:\downloads\recovery.img . This command will temporary load the custom recovery with write access to the kernel partition and allow a full kernel .zip or ROM .zip to be loaded correctly.
2-B) fastboot boot c:\downloads\boot.img . This command will flash just the kernel boot.img file. The associated kernel modules, such as WiFi will not be loaded and must be loaded by the ROM .zip in the custom recovery, otherwise WiFi will not work.
HTC unlock is definitely very helpf when compared to no official option, but has a few quirks forcing us to take a few extra steps.
Hope that helps clarify a bit!
I have tried this & it says "main version older" idk what that means but it didn't work!

Either download superusers from the market free version works fine or just click okay on it.. May need superusers from the market. Didn't have any issues.
Got it, but how do I get superuser to give them the permissions? In the app I see the "app" catergory with nothing there.
Remember, all I've done is HTC unlock to unlock bootloader. I'm still s-on with no custom recovery, if I can get that I'll be fine. I got everything you said also

This is gonna sound retarted man sorry just need to know does your hboot say unlocked at the top?
I know alot of folks were having issues when they applied the unlock code bin part using the HTC Dev way and it would say sucess but nothing would happen the phone would sit in hboot and no new screen would come up and say do you wish to unlock the bootloader.... Only way around that was to download the latest RUU exe 2.17 and use it then reapply the unlock code bin
I am trying to figure out why TWRP 2.0 was havin issues along with CWM and so I I have been swapping recoverys around on my phone all day to see if I could get the same issue you have been having...
I am running outta ideas since everything isn't wanting to flash over it's acting like the boot is still locked even tho you unlocked it.
Im hboot 1.5 S-ON
If nothing works you could try this then redo the custom recovery.. by fastboot flash.

Might be able too. PC86IMG.ZIP I just can't figure out why nothing is flashin over to your phone recovery wise...
I did the same thing took the OTA software update before I rooted and did the HTC DEV applied the unlock code and chose to unlock boot even tho said it could void my warranty. Then I downloaded TWRP 2.0 which I don't recommend using put that in my platform tools folder and fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or what ever you renamed the file tooo.
This is the recovery I was using worked fine just copy the file that is in the zip to your platform tools folder and fastboot flash recovery cwm.img
I really am tryin to figure out what is going wrong with the recoverys not wanting to flash over....
I dunno why cwm isn't flashing right..
Tried to pg86img with stock recovery & failed. When dad gets here I'll take a pic proving I unlocked with HTC method. Idk what's going on really because people say these steps worked for them & nothing has worked for me at all!

I believe you on the unlocked part. Man im just stumped on this part the way it's acting up seems like the phone is still locked....
I have been tryin to screw up mine to see if I have the same issue as you...
I am really tryin to figure this out lol.
When you did the HTC Dev method you had latest java JDK and HTC sync 3.0 I think was the latest and ADB and the tools it needs downloaded...
Also you don't have two pc86img.zip files on your SD card right?
Some of the PC86IMG.ZIP files might error or not work due to them being named PC86IMG.ZIP.ZIP
Does the computer you were using have ADB installed on it with the tools you can download when you open up SDK manager there called SDK tools or platform tools...
Since you need these to work adb and make sure debug is on in the main menu of your phone under applications development.
I dunno why superusers wouldn't flash either.. Might be something with ADB or SDK tools or Platform tools aren't downloaded. On windows 7 if your right click on your platform tools while holding down shift it will open up a quick path to adb
The stock recovery I used astro zip to zip the stock signed recovery.img. It was named stock signed recovery.zip when I zipped it. Then I renamed it to PG86IMG.zip & powered off phone. I went to bootloader & it found the file like before, said "parsing" & nothing else happens but it goes back to the bootloader highlighting fastboot. I did this several times by clicking on fastboot & then clicking bootloader so it can load the file again. Still it said "parsing" & nothing else. Like before, the only one that said something different was twrp which said "main version outdated" & the only option after that was to reboot using power button!
Also, I'm not near a computer & the super user I downloaded is from the market! I'm on hboot 1.5 unlocked WITH software 2.17. Do you think it's because the ota?

There isn't a folder on the SD card called recovery is there?
Nope there isn't. It's not a folder named recovery on the root of the SD card or on the main root of the SD card where you see the really important files & you can see the system apks etc! What does this mean?

Ok so I could not wait for the root to come out and I could not for the life of me figure out how to install a custom rom without first rooting your EVO LTE first. But I was randomly doing stuff and I figured out how to install a custom recovery onto a phone that has 1.22.651.3.
Edit: This method seems to get rid of the "This build is for development purposes only.
Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission.

Before you can do this you need to have an unlocked bootloader.
1. Download this file http://www.mediafire.com/?h0qfd9idc6h3c03
2. Place the file into where your android sdk folder is.
3. Put your phone into bootloader mode.
4. Click Fastboot and make sure your device is in FastUSB mode.
5. Open command prompt on your computer.
6. In command prompt locate the folder where you put the image in for me its "cd c:\android-sdk-windows
7. Type in "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.1-jewel.img"
8. Hit enter.
The image should be pushed onto your device and TWRP should now be installed.
You should mention that you need to be at least HTC DEV Unlocked in order to install a custom recovery, a working Link, and proper way to push a file.

I honestly had no idea that even existed. I only go on XDA xD. I guess Iwill just get my posted deleted then. But what was not mentioned in that post was about that HTC DEV text that appears when you unlock the bootloader. From what I understand the only way to get rid of that is through S-OFF but I never did S-OFF and the text is not appearing on my phone. This is very mystifying.

I flashed a landscape rosie via clockworks, now my phone will not boot past the splash screen. When I start it it make it to that point and just stays there. I can boot to recovery but it doesnt show anything when I go to sub menus.
Thanks
Are you S-OFF?
Install TWRP. Get rid of ClockworkMod.
yeah s-off
I wanted to install TWRP img but there was no exe file in the folder (other than the abd file) I downloaded. When I executed the adb file it ran so fast that I couldnt read it and then it closed.
You should be able to install twrp through the bootloader seeing that your s-off. Govtovtheir website and download it.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.
Key Features:
Ability to save custom recovery settings
Default partitions to back up
Default zip folder location
Default color theme (lots to choose from) (Thanks to ffolkes!)
Default Time Zone (for more accurate time stamps)
Zip Signature Verification
Zip md5 Verification (looks for file with zipname.zip.md5)
Ability to flash multiple zips in one go
Ability to select which individual partitions to backup, and restore.
Ability to choose compression or no compression backups.
Compression takes longer of course, but you save roughly half the space. EVO3D's stock system uncompressed is ~800mb, 380mb compressed. You choose.
Ability to auto restore GAPPS on zip flash (for CM based ROMS)
Ability to auto reboot after successful flashes (for the lazy)
Some devices utilize their capacitive buttons in recovery.
Home - Main Menu
Menu - Advanced Menu
Back - Up a Menu Level
Search - Select Current Selection
Battery Level and Timestamp (Better safe than sorry)
HTC Dumlock Instructions:
Install the build of TWRP using your method of choice, but you must actually flash TWRP to recovery. No fastboot booting it. We need it in recovery so that this build of TWRP will be flashed to your boot. This new build of TWRP has features in it to easily restore your original boot.
Reboot into recovery.
Make a backup of your phone.
Tap Advanced.
Tap HTC Dumlock. (If you don't see HTC Dumlock then you need to remove any custom TWRP theme that you might be using.)
Tap Install HTC Dumlock. This will install the app and binaries needed to make everything work nicely.
Reboot your device.
Find and open the HTC Dumlock app.
If/when prompted, give the app root (SuperUser) permissions.
Tap the Execute HTC Dumlock button.
Wait patiently for a couple of minutes. It takes a little while.
If your device doesn't reboot automatically, reboot it manually. Reboot it normally. DO NOT reboot it to recovery.
You should now be in your recovery, but your recovery is flashed into boot.
Tap Advanced.
Tap HTC Dumlock.
Tap Restore Original Boot.
Use your recovery like normal. Flash a new kernel. Restore a backup with a different kernel. Do whatever you please!
Consider donating!
Note, you must repeat steps 8 through 17 EVERY TIME you need to flash boot.
Installation:
Unlock bootloader at http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
Make sure fastboot is unchecked in power options and turn phone completely off
Boot into HBOOT then Fastboot
From fastboot. Use command "fastboot erase cache"
From fastboot. Use command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"

Go unlock your bootloader. Then inside of TWRP it should detect that your not rooted and automatically root . If it doesn't prompt you. There are two links in the OP that you flash in recovery that will give you root.

Ok to make sure I understand you install the twrp attached and install the Dumlock and this will allow us to flash the boot.img in twrp and not through fastboot?

Coming from samsung devices, all this fastboot stuff and HTC Dumlock is super confusing.. I'm rooted and running TWRP, but I'm certainly not comfortable with flashing another ROM and kernel yet. Thanks for the thread though, I extremely appreciate you work and time!:good:
Edit: Do I follow these exact steps to flash a full ROM zip with a non-stock kernel as part of it, or are there extra steps.. Really hate sounding like a noob, just do not want to do something dumb..

The international roms have a script in them that flashes the kernel with the Rom. No need to fastboot or anything like that.

Make sure your phone is on Fastboot and not HBOOT and it's plugged in good.
Nice job! This is really tempting me as I try to hold out for the Galaxy S4. Your making it very hard for me not to go buy this
Hello guys,
I just rooted and unlocked the phone to start trying to install a ROM. I tried to install "Sense.Revolution.R5" but it didn't go well .
I followed every step from the guide ending up installing the ROM from sdcard zip after wiping but it always ended on an error like assert failed: write_raw_image("tmp/boot.img and next line Error in sdcard/Sense.Revolution.R5.zip (Status 7). After that i tried to reboot the phone but it was always on black screen. I went into my bootloader and factory reset but it didn't work (black screen again).
I just want it to be like it was on factory (no ROMS, i'm already done ).
I'm using Clockworkmod v6.0.1.5
HBOOT-1.25.0002
Used AllinOneKit for unlocking and rooting.
Can anyone help me? I'm very noobish . Anything you want me to upload just ask for it!.

Hello,
Look at the attachment. I don't see that on the kit. Do you mean putting recovery.img into Data/Kernels and then Flash Kernel with command? Or put it into Data/Recoveries and then Your Own Recovery->Flash Recovery?
Tell me if it's ok and i will go into next step
Flash recovery . 2 your own recovery. 3 put phone in fastboot mode . 4 connect phone 5 select downloaded recovery.omg from desktop 6 close first window 7 enjoy

Oh okay...i downloaded it already ^^.
TWRP, downloaded (http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/140)
Filename: openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-protou.img
MD5sum: 0ceede5826e18640d6a81451793444ae
What do i have to do now? I mean where i have to put the md5 and img ? and backup of __304? :/
2. Extract the TWRP Nandroid Backup to your desktop and find the folder 2.22.707.6
I don't have that folder. I have 2013-06-23--01-37-10 but someone says it is fine with that "ell your TWRP is for JB
the 2.22.707.6 folder you are looking for is this folder: 2013-06-23--01-37-10 Just extract that inside TWRP/BACKUP/(your serial number)/" so it's ok there i guess.
1- "Copy this folder to your sdcard" 2-"After that go into recovery and restore it and reboot the device. You are back on stock"
I'm lost on those 2 steps. 1- i can't open my sdcard. 2- What do i have to do there :S
Which recovery.img do i have to download from here? -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099513
EDIT: my folders (TWRP one is the TWRP/BACKUP/YOURSERIALNAME etc)
Ignore all from before, i finally got it
Now i'm on the phone but i have a problem...when i go to the phone memory i have 2,3 GB used and i didn't install or do anything since the mobile is without anything. What could it be? Oo
And another problem...there is an icon called SUPERSU which one i try to open but says "SUPERSU's su binary is not preset, this is a fatal error" i guess this is because i did all of this and it unrooted?
And to end...i don't know what happened but TWRP doesn't open now. I try to do the recovery etc but nothing happens in the bootloader oO
Yeah... By flashing stock ROM you unrooted your phone. To have root again, just flash latest SuperSU in recovery. To have recovery working again, just flash recovery image via fastboot and it should work again. Maybe you accidentally flashed stock recovery while returning back to stock...

Hello,
