I have updated my phone, Android 2.3.6 KI4
When I made the update to this version, I've noticed a HUGE improvement in battery life, to which the phone can last a full whole day - that's with data switched on, making phone calls, listening to music and browsing the web.
From my previous version, I would find my phone just under 50% of battery life at about 12pm noon. But now, the phone can last over 75% at 3pm! Not only that but I still have enough battery life past 12am!
Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this perk. One of my mates has the phone too, though he hasn't updated the phone yet. We noticed a big comparison between the 2 phones battery life where his phone would die at 3pm, whereas my phone still has 70% of it.
Updates can help. But different apps make an even bigger difference. Sometimes one app can cause a battery drain. Use betterbatterystats which is free on xda to see if there see apps causing drain

I have the best battery life with the KL1 modem which has so far been the best for me as regards to battery life, I flash through odin.
I must agree samsung have done really good Job with each rom updates / modems with regards to battery life and other things .
Frankly as a heavy user, I decided addressing the issue by the supply side, i.e. got a spare with a wall charger and really don't bother about it. Right now, two are more than enough, if I ever feel that even this is a bit low, will get another battery!
previously on 2.3.3 - battery 9am to 6pm
now with XXKI3 2.3.5 battery 9am (1st day) to 10pm (Next day)
i am really happy now
I went down the 2 charge route, one for work, and one for overnight in my house..
2's a charm.
It's true that 2.3.5 battery life is good and can last for 2 days on average use and easily 1 day on heavy usage (except gaming).
I my experience that's much better than 2.3.4
2.3.5 is very stable too, so I have decided not to be first mover when official ICS 4.0.3 is available through KIES
Running 2.3.6 now.. I would strongly suggest you guys charge your S2's using the usb cable to your laptop or desktop... why? Based on my personal experience.. I noticed that my s2 drains much lesser than when I used to charge using the wall charger.
It dramatically increased my battery's life...
Could it be of the slow but steady trickle charging effect on the usb cable rather than directly on the charger?

Hi,
What is the battery life we may expect from a Galaxy S2 ? Mine (from fully charged) lasted only 3-4 hours surfing the web using 3G, maybe including some wifi usage, however screen was dimmed down. Isn't the battery supposed to last a little longer ? The phone is new and I am on the third day now. Is there anything wrong with my device or will battery performance improve after some battery cycles ?

You can expect for more battery but you wont get until some optimization from google and samsung...

Mate 3g browsing on the sgs2 does kill that battery in 3-4 hours max.. that is actually the time scale most reviews give.. i know its a pain i hate it myself, but ull find generally using the phone ie camera, music etc gives you a longer battery. The browser rocks! but its a serious power drinker, i did discover that some sites are saying that using a 3rd party browser helps things abit e.g dolphin or opera. It has something to do wiv the gpu accelaration which enables u to do things like play 1080p videos in the stock browser and the constant smooth perfomance
oh and i found the battery does improve after a few cycles, but i think thats mainly due to the fact u tend to not be constantly playing with the phone al the time
Yep, 4 hours tops for me screen on usage.
Using Juice Defender which helps a bit..
Abouth the battery...
Earlier this evening my phone was at 28%, when i picked it back up an hour later it was 31%????
I watched the battery graph and it showed a Yellow line going upwarts slitghtly., is that strange??
Afterwards i saw green going down and than up again. I will post a pic of it.
Seriously, there are 5+ battery threads already, what is so specific about your case you felt the need to start a completely new discussion on it????
Fully charged this morning, moderate use throughout the day, on 52% now after 16 hours. I'm happy with that.

Battery now at 66%, after 20 hours and 6 minutes. Android OS running at 32% and it my largest process.
2% drop in battery over 4 hours with Android OS running at 32%... android OS bug my arse...
I wonder what would happen if people actually used their phones for talking.
I pre ordered this and waiting shipment. I can compare with the atrix i had, that the battery life was not to shabby but it had a 1900mah battery.
You can't expect amazing battery life with this phone
4.3inch screen
AMOLED+
1.2ghz CPU.
if they made the phone a bit thicker a tiny bit they could of put a bigger battery in there but samsung wants to compete with apple on thinest phones.

And it's more expensive so it's all about how much profit they want make and what price it's going to sell at.
well after the ke7 fw update my battery life seems to have improved
Doesn't sip too much when it's idle but mine tops out at 3.5h with screen on

Mine is run about 1,5-2 days, not so intensive usage.
After reading through so many threads about owners having issues with the battery life, I thought I'd start a happy thread!
I've had my SGS2 for almost two weeks now and I've always been happy with the battery life because it seemed to last a while.
I'm not up to the stage where i can just leave the phone alone (because I always want to play with it!), but I did an experiment 3 nights in a row to see how much power the phone drains in standby mode.
Each night, I'd charge my phone up to 100% and take it off the charger and then wake up to see how much power is remaining.
I left all the settings as-is and DID NOT turn anything off (eg 3G, etc).
The first night, I didnt touch my phone from 11pm and woke up at 7am to see that there was 97% battery left.
The second night, I left the phone alone at 11:30pm and woke up at 8am with 96%.
The third night, I slept at midnight and woke up at 8am to have 97% left.
If I average it out, it means that the phone on standby drains a lot less than 1% per hour. At that rate, the bettary seems like it can go with minimal use for at least two or three days. But it's something that I haven't been able to test just yet because I'm constantly surfing the net, testing out apps, etc during the day.
Admittedly, I don't have all that much installed on the phone that could possibly drain battery:
Friend Caster
Kakao
Whatsapp
Crazy Colours Live Wallpaper
Seekdroid
Official EBay
Battery Solo Widget
"Standard" clock
"Applications Running" widget
(I've got more applications, but the ones listed above are the ones that might have some sort of network connection and/or widgets that may need to update during the night).
I'm also using stock Vodafone Australia firmware in Melbourne city (in Australia):
Baseband: I900TDUKF4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKF4-CL331615
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DUKF4
Does anyone else get battery life like this?
I'm not sure how big a role the network plays in these stats because I'm based in the centre of a major city.
As much as I hate the Vodafone bloatware, I've been reluctant to flash other firmwares like I did on my previous HTC Aria/HTCHD2/HTCDiamond because this one works so well with the battery.
3% battery over night ?. I get under 10%, with all off what can be off, with no funky widgets, no data, no wifi, no nothing. Still phone wakes up in the night for unkown reason and 80% of battery is taken by mysterious Android OS process.
I had Optus bloatware and I kept it for a week or two. I wasn't unhappy with the battery life but wanted to customise it and get root.
After flashing Lite'ning it was obvious how much less battery drain there was. I have since moved to Cognition and I am very happy with how it's going. I charge nightly, but I've never had the battery drop below 50%, and I do use the phone quite a lot. I wouldn't say I'm a heavy user (it's all so subjective) but I would have to be at least medium if not more.
I also love the Black Theme by Nitrozk and Pele, which is why I moved from Lite'ning to Cognition to begin with.

That is a problem with the 2.3.3 firmware mate. Best switch to 2.3.4 ASAP!
To answer your question, yes, I'm hugely impressed by the battery life.
Here's my latest and I'm still at 15%. I'm bone stock on KF3 with all the syncs set to every three hours and using Exchange push.
People blame everything (Wi-Fi Sharing, AOS) for their issues except what they do to their individual phone. Network signal strength plays a big role so does the individual router used for Wi-Fi access. But outside of that there's no other explanation other than individual configuration when identical phone's from the factory get such different results.
I don't participate in battery threads because they're pointless. Dozens of different people using the phone differently with different apps and settings on different carriers all talk in circles when there's no common basis for a legitimate discussion.
I'd call 3% overnight something impressive.
I'll try it out tonight.
I'm running 2.3.3 (No updates avaliable here in Brazil) and i'm not about to root it now. I'm getting a generic 7" tablet to mess around and learn how to do it properly.
So i'll be running minimalistic UI, Snowstorm, Battery Monitor Widget Pro on the desktop, with 2 screens.
HSPA+, bluetooth and wifi disabled.
Let's see how it turns out tomorow morning.
One thing i wanted was to flash in Samsung's oficial fw for Brazil, mine's a carrier customized one, and that's sort of pissing me off since i wanted to uninstall 75% of the garbage Claro has installed here.

I agree with you BarryH... having put the great battery stats in the first post, I wouldn't expect anywhere near that sort of level had I been playing with the phone or I had a thousand apps that run constantly in the background.
Having said that, it seems that there are the people who do have legitimate problems and then there are the people who simply have unrealistic expections of the battery in such a powerful phone. Kinda like buying a big truck expecting it to run on the same amount of fuel as a little car.

Let me know how you go Unreal... I saw on a thread a couple of weeks ago (not sure exactly which one now because there's so many of these "bad battery" threads) that someone had said that their phone lasted more than three days with minimal use.. and noone believed him! lol
How strange, I was about to make a similar thread. I had just gotten 3 and a half days out of my battery earlier tonight, no connection to charger since friday night. Minimal use of course, few phone calls and general tinkering, but still impressed with the standby. It was at 1% battery left so time to charge her up again. I charged my phone till the 100% alert came up, then charged it for another 45 minutes as I heard it stops it dropping immediately to 95% as some others have experienced. I've experienced similar too.
So after unplugging it, I pressed the power button to turn the screen off and haven't touched the phone till just now, about 6 and a half hours later. I pressed the power button and battery widget shows me 98% on the battery. If i was to leave the phone completely in standby and not use it, at about 1% drain per 3 and a quarter hours, that's about 13 and a half days standby!
I'm on 2.3.3 btw.
2-3% overnight drain is along the lines of what I get with KE2 and KF3. Data off, 2G. I get about 20-30% of drain a day, 30 mins usage, 30 mins talk.
I get great battery life on mine, although I have not made a valid experiment using quatitative data
Hopefully, this will be the NEW TREND for all the Android Gingerbread dual core phones.

I have owned a lot of androids and my sgs2 has the best battery life.
I guess you think it's ok, probably because coming from another android phone, it is.
For me is a pain, every half day have to think about charging, my whole usage of this phone although brilliant, has been taken over by thoughts of how I'm going to next get it charged aposed to what I want to do with my phone.
Something I didn't expect was just how much this phone discharges whilst playing music with the screen off.

Im not impressed, it just met my expectation coming from an SGS1, but the first one impressed me so ergo Im also impressed on the SGS2
I have had this phone since pretty much near release date. I have been and still am very impressed,by the battery life.
I'm currently on KG1 2.3.4, but since before this past Saturday I was always on 2.3.3 (KE2). Even on 2.3.3 with the AOS bug I was still very happy with battery life.
Now with KG2 out, I'm sure ill be even way more impressed.
I love this phone, and I have been a religous iphone user previously too!

On my phone with 3500mAh battery. With yellow arrows, the behaivour during night.
KG1: during 4 days ( no drain at all)
KG2: during one night
I must agree, this is my 3rd Android phone (out of a total of 37 phones since 1990) and it's by far the best battery of any smart phone.
My best battery usage is 3 days 13 hours with 25% battery left. That was with wifi on all the time, over an hour of screen time (I was working at home, so no need to play with the phone) and over an hour of phone calls. I'm sure it would have reached 5 days. BTW, I'm running 5 pages of widgets, firefiles wallpaper and GMail is updating all the time.
During the 3 days time I switched off 3G as this is the biggest battery drainer I have seen. I live in a 40 floor tower which is made of thick concrete and the 3G signal in my home office is terrible, the phone is constantly hunting for 3G. When I'm at home, I don't need 3G as I'm using Wifi.

Guys, it's because you've probably spent every millisecond that your eye lids were parted from each other playing around with new features, thus using the phone more often now than you probably were prior to the ICS update........ Oh wait, sorry that was an evaluation of my own battery issue.
Strange hearing this. I was more than a month on ICS china leak and battery was great. Now i went back to oficial 2.36 due to waiting for genuine ICS and bat life is terrible. Clean system, no apps installed, no play, just couple of calls and emails, phone didnt last 14 hours. Where is this ics!

You're probably for the most part right, but I still think my battery life on ICS is less than GB. I managed to use up the entire battery in less than a day, on my first day with ICS. This is something that never happened with GB, even on the first day I got my Maxx. My battery usage doesn't show anything unusual. 60% of it was used by the screen (auto brightness).
NOt sure what builds we are talking about but here are my stats using the baddass battery monitor.
OTA GB (.181) = 2days average battery life
.79 Moto leak = 1 day average battery life
So in reality my battery lif is half what it used to be, with the Android OS using about 20%.
Here's to hoping the ICS OTA update is better than the 4.0.3 .79 build.

I'm on the OTA, and the Android OS is using 10%.
I'm rooted on the .211 leak and noticed a considerable drop in battery life when I first flashed. I did some digging using the 'badass battery' app and found that winamp had been draining my battery for some reason. After uninstalling winamp my battery life immediately returned to normal. I highly suggest getting that app and looking at the 'app sucker' breakdown to see which apps are using the most battery as opposed to androids stock usage breakdown.

Well actually, this is kind of scary. I got off work at 6 am this morning, came up and went to sleep somewhere between 7:30 and 8 am. I woke up around 3 pm and my batter was left charging via usb from the computer with about 80% battery THEN. So I woke up at 3 pm and my battery was COMPLETELY DEAD. I had to plug it up to a power outlet. I understand that, but what I DON'T understand is how in the heck did the battery die in the FIRST place when all it was doing while I slept is being charged from my computer (which I ALWAYS do) and was already at 80% when it was plugged up?

I have the same issue. I fully charge my phone every night. I drive a truck for UPS so I don't look at my phone too often throughout the day. By end of day, I have about 30% battery left and over 70% of it has been consumed by the screen!?
Also, I have noticed the battery takes MUCH longer to charge. Usually, when I had GB, I would get home from work, usually with about 60% battery left. I would plug it in and go take a shower. When I got out, it would be fully charged. About 30 minutes. NOW, I get home with a 30% battery and 30 minutes of charging gets me up to about 45% battery. I don't get it. Is there anyway to go back to GB?
My issue was, I was rooted on GB and I could NOT update to 4.0.4. It would download, get about 1/4 way installed and fail. I unrooted the phone and got the same results. Used rootkeeper etc. So I had to sideload the OEM ICS from Verizon. Nothing but horrible battery life ever since.
Some people are having battery issues, but it's not a universal thing. I'm getting great battery life. I was about a day and a half with moderate use on my Maxx and was down to 60%.
People having these issues, I'd look at all your installed apps and maybe you guys can find a commonality. It's a known issue that Facebook's apps is a battery killer, maybe others are under ICS.
Try epsilon V2.
My battery life is pretty bad. It was bad on stock and still not any better with eclipse. It dies after about 6 hours and I only use it for 5 minutes every hour in that time. I even exit apps before putting it in my pocket. Badass battery and stock battery app both give similar info. The screen accounts for 70% or more even though its only on for a total of 30 minutes in those 6 hours. Charging is also incredibly slow. With gingerbread it would last for 8+ hours and usually only be at 30-40% by then.
Since the JB update I have been trying to narrow down the culprit in battery drain that has cropped up. Going through better battery stats there was never a definitive clue as to the cause.
Tonight my phone has been off charge 3 hours and its drained 10% in battery sat on a shelf doing nothing, simply because WIFI was enabled.
One of the stand out features of this device was decent battery life up against comparable handsets, now that's been taken away from a shocking firmware update i'm considering jumping ship.
Has anyone else found any means of fixing this yet? Or just a case of waiting for Samsung?

Theres some threads talking about this.
I don´t feel that.I´ m on LJ5 build and sincethe LJ builds I´m very happy with battery drain, even sometimes I get 5 hours screen on with wifi on.
Maybe you update your phone from ICS and don´t wyped your data or made a fresh install. Try to do so and you should be happy again.
It's probably due to a dirty WiFi network that's smashing a bunch of multicast packets. Pretty much all the custom kernels available now have a patch to ignore multicast when screen off; otherwise you'll just have to wait for Samsung to realise they did something silly (read: never)

That makes sense. Always the same with Samsung, takes them an age to get a new software update out and when they finally do it always comes at a cost.
My battery drain is less after settings in advanced to always on and changing the location settings and turning off notifications in some apps and also in play store.
Also in maps automatically update your location might be a battery drain.
I've got a lot of battery drain with wifi on, too. Last night, my battery dropped from 29% to 0% (in 5-6 hours) with wifi on. I woke up to find that my battery had been depleted. UGH!
Must check what is draining your battery. I don t experience that... so far and from many android devices I ve the s3 is by far the battery frindly I have.
I i ve s2 and xperia neo dayly use and I'm happy. I use also some dirty wifi networks and don't have problems at all.

it's a known issue on latest JB rlses. Whats funny is that :
-The leaks did not have the wifi battery drain
- The wifi drains more Battery battery than 3G. I can have 3G on all the time the phone last up to 1d10hrs with 2hrs screen time
I'm on the leaked version. But on lj5 I didn't experience that so far.

Iv had my galaxy s3 for 5 months now and i dont know if its just the Jellybean update but the battery drain when having wifi on is really bad im lucky to get 1 days usage with the phone , i got my google nexus4 yesterday and iv used wifi and data for most of the day and im now in day 2 my battery is at 44% and both batteries are same 2100mah
think im gonna sell my GS3 as the google nexus4 is so much better with battery , but before i do i will reflash stock jellybean on GS3 without root and run them both side by side to compare results , but so far GS3 battery is real bad for drain if i install juice defender on Nexus4 im sure i would get between 2-3 days usage with moderate usage
i will run my tests on both phones side by side with and without juice defender and try to show
I have had the same issue. Though the battery drain is not drastic, it certainly is more compared to ics. If you require better battery life then go back to ics and flash Aosp/Aokp roms

Hi All
I have had my HTC One X+ for roughly 3 weeks now and just recently I noticed the phone reaching a very hot temperature, I have not measured exactly but it is significantly hotter than I have ever noticed since owning the handset. I don't use it that heavily i.e. for games etc and only charge it when the battery is less than 20%, I have not needed to have the power saving setting turned on because the battery life suited me without the settings. However when I noticed the overheating it seems the battery is draining much quicker, A full charge went down to 8% within roughly 4 - 5 hours without any heavy use.
Can anyone assist me on this
Thanks

Did you update?, i just played a game with the charger plugged in with full battery, after 10 mins of game play my battery was at 95% and that with the charger plugged in, my battery life wasnt as good as yours before the update but it was def alot better than it is now, theres quite a few more bugs since 1.16.401 and up, touch screen is dodgy as hell, that could be one reason for the battery drain, im seriouslt thinking of selling it and getting out my onex.
No I havent done any software updates, currently have the latest version available which 1.14.161.18. The problem only started yesterday out of nowhere, I can't understand what is causing it!! My usage has not changed at all :S
I was having the same issues the second I turned my HOX+ on. I have fixed it by not using LTE all the time. I found that when LTE was on, it over-heated my phone and killed my battery life especially when restoring my gmail on initial setup with settings and apps coming down from the cloud.
