After reading this forum for quite a while, am i the only person who's sitting on the fence when it comes to ROMs?
All the ROMs which i checked out have one problem or another.... either not stable, slower than stock, buggy, or lack in one department or another. I don't really see the point of updating to any ROMs if there are some unresolved issues.
Is there any 2.0 based roms which are not buggy and which have all functions working perfectly? Or should i wait until the official ROM comes out?
copying my thread?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627494
Didn't see your thread... sorry. Seems like we are in the same boat.
that is why i stay with modaco rom xD faster then the original & keep those most function with speed boost.
Seems to be the sae reasonas to why im also trying to dig into customising roms. Though, thus far, any un-official rom i have tested thus far seems to be atleast just as stable as any official rom, except they tend to be alot faster. Might be worth it to try and get some sort of guide started once i know how it all works. One of the issues i didnt manage to find anything on yet is signing a modified rom .zip-archive.
One thing ill definately share when ive completed it will be a very stripped down sense 2.1 rom, and then try to see where i can get from there. Im currently in-between villain rom and the 1.6 beta rom with cooker app, switching back and forth from one another...
Atleast that tought me how to backup and restore things should i keep you all updated if anything changes?
How do you like villain? have you tried kagu? I'm undecided between the two..
i'm using ckdroid ... it's quite fast. very stable and fulfills all of my needs
if you don't really need / want a 2.x rom you should definitly go with modaco for the great tweaks and speed improvements!
also, the first ported roms from cyanogen are being released!
most of present quirks come from drivers not being available for 2.x roms from htc because they haven't realeased them in their own 2.x rom yet. just be a little more patient.
there are already rumors of an official 2.1 htc rom with sense coming out in the beginning of march

As the Villain chef, you'd possibly expect me to promote my own rom. However, I find Kagu to be an outstanding rom. lox has done a great job with it. If I wanted a quick, Vanilla, feature-rich rom, I'd go with Kagu.
I love Sense UI though... hence Villain.
Kagudroid is good, CKDroid is awesome, but they are both Vanilla roms.
I like Villain ROM much better because of Sense UI, even though it's still a bit buggy and is a little slower. totally worth it for me.
You've obviously not been 'round the Dream parts of the forum...
Right now I'm running Supra 1.5, but I see there's a metric crapton of roms available. Any suggestions on what roms are particularly fast, or ones that have great eye candy? Full support for hardware (WiMAX, 3D camera/screen, etc) is necessary - although I'm not sure if there are any roms out there that have that support limitation.
I've looked over the ROM list, but I haven't found a really good comparison of features, or what sets each ROM apart from the others.

i think all current ROMs (especially based off stock sense) will support WiMAX and 3D camera/screen. as the aosp roms start to be released though, there *might* be gaps with 3d camera and wimax support as those aren't open sourced in aosp.
accurate comparison lists are generally hard to find and once they're created, hard to maintain. each rom developer kind of follows their own patch and posts up whatever information they determine relevant. there really is not set list of categories or features they all agree on.
if anybody does create this type of list, i'm sure there is demand for it. the rom scene has been kind of disparate. rom manager is one of the few centralized location to find roms with some kind of congregated feedback/comment system.
the general advice given, and sometimes the best, is to try them all out yourself. being able to create a nandroid does make it easier to switch back and forth between ROMs. i personally run all stock with root, busybox and some linux dev binaries for experimenting.
most of the ROMs give a pretty decent description of their ROM in their OP including features and enhancements they have made. almost most post screenshots in their thread and you can glance thru their posts to get a general feel for feedback.
sorry there isnt a great answer and i have yet to see a guide which provides a full ROM feature comparison list. none the less, hope my opinion and feedback helps point in the right direction!
This is an awesome, basic, pertinent information filled, troll-free reply that should be copied and pasted for any other threads that start up with the same question. Kudos to you.

I'm running viper ROM 1.3 with silverneedle kernel and honeycomb sense 3.0 theme. Runs fast and looks really nice.
I personally think the Viper rom is one of the best... Completely opinion though. I say just check them out and see which ones you like the best. I also like BloodyBeast. I personally used to love AOSP but that was when I had an atrix with motoblur. I really do like sense.

Supra ROM is a GREAT ROM. It is a great blend of ASOP and Sense and it also had good performance.
Other Roms I like include:
Viper ROM: Great ROM but hasnt been updated in a while
SteelROM: I just like it...
Synergy: Love it other than the fact native hotspot isnt working, also SVN is epic.
Synergy.
Free Dirk!!!
In my honest and humble opinion,
Best sense ROMs: Viper and of course Supra
Best non-sense: SenselessROM 2.1 (my favorite), EVO-nonsense.
They are all good and fully functional unless stated otherwise.
Viper with no lights kernel -- viper is super stable and works great for me. No lights is perfect because I know where all the soft buttons are and now when docked at night or watching a movie I don't have super bright lights across the bottom of the phone.
XRON Rom has everything working and no issues. They have a really good team of devs that respond to your concerns regularly.
I liked Viper 1.3 stable at 1.7
Had troubles with Synergy.. force closes and invisible notification bars. Has to do with the new version being for the GB version with unreleased kernel source. No OC
Ran Bloody Final for a long time. Stable at 1.8
On Supra 1.5 now. Please remove TitaniumBackup from the rom!
OK, this might be a dumb question for some, but i am confused. Which of the two ROMs is the better one? Is Euphoria the next generation Passion? I do not care about GPS but rather stable and bug free ICS ROM. Don't care for customization either...
I am currently on ICS Passion 11b5 and have some issues like, my ringtones stop working every now and then and I need to re-select them in my sounds. Phone is laggy and becomes unresponsive pretty often..
If customization isn't your thing then I'd stick with ICS Passion if I were you. However you should probably update. ICS Passion v13.1 has been out for a while and I hear that that rom coupled with the newest Kiss kernel (Sealed_with_a_kiss #4) make a good pair. You should try that before testing out Euphoria.
Try the AOKP rom, it is similiar to Passion with fewer bugs and less laggy.
If you like MIUI, there are 2 or 3 MIUI V4 roms being worked on. They run solid, just dont allow for much customization at this point.

AOKP = Android Open Kang Project - Milestone 4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1512518
Ice Cream Zenwich is also AOKP based and very good. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499455
(Euphoria is AOKP based too. that's where all the customization comes from. Passion was based on CM9)
So the AOKP should be better than both Zenwich and Euphoria then? How come the AOPK Rom's thread is not very big (that's how I judge if a rom is popular)?

Ok, let me make this simple for you to understand.
Zenwich and Euphoria ARE aokp, not AOKP is better. So to make it clear, AOKP Roms are Zenwich, Euphoria, and Milestone 4. And if you judge a rom's popularity based on the number of posts then you're surely mistaken. The reason some roms have more posts than others are because the development of the rom has been out longer. That doesn't mean the rom is better (or more popular). In fact, the best way to judge a rom is by testing it yourself and finding the right one; kinda like buying a pair of shoes, or a car, or a woman.
The ONLY way you're gonna find the BEST rom for you is to take them for a test drive, give them a fair chance and use each one for a few days and see for yourself.
OK, good to know. Yes, I think you are right about the test drive .. and the women .. I guess I should install them and see. The thing is it generally takes some time to setup and configure everything back the way i need. But I will start with Zen probably because it has inverted apps built-in and see how it goes . Thanks!

Well put DJ, and I agree totally!! These people questioning us for opinions on ROMs to choose, need to test them out and experience the ROM for what it is to see if it suits them.
I personally was a diehard Honey Fan of EB's Roms, until the ICS ROM's came out which addressed some issues I was having using SHoney, And Ive been moving forward with a ROM that has everything I WANT, not what other peeps need or desire!!
Again Its a personal choice, and should be made outta what you need and want from a ROM, not popularity!!
JMO!!
What is the best rom for the htc rezound? I want to have the latest version of android and sense for the htc rezound with everything working. I think the latest is android 4.0.4 and sense 4.0
What ROM are you using? If you are on S4, then you are using a custom ROM. Our "official" ICS only has Sense 3.6
BTW, wrong place to put this...not being a jerk about it like some will, but this should be in Q & A
Post one thread, one time, in the correct section please
Please delete this post. Sorry for posting in wrong forum.
Best ROM?
Well, if you insist on ICS, your choices are OK.
But, until the approved ICS rom appears, you may
get the best battery mileage with the latest GBread 2.01.605.11.
I have tried them ALL, and come back to a daily driver
of GB that's rooted and cleaned out with Titanium Backup.
It runs smooth, no FC's, and does everything I need without
any issues. Only the programs I use are installed or
loaded on startup. Once you get it the way you like, Nandroids will
allow you to jump around, try new stuff, then go back to what you like.
Venasaur 3.2 or cleanrom dev 1.4. Period.!

The best ROM is which ever ROM runs the best on your phone.
From my experience, the best way is to read the OP of the ROMs you are interested in, narrow it down to say 3-4 ROMs and try them out.
There is a good amount to choose from, GingerBread, ICS sense 3.5 to Sense 4.0
it looks like miui has even come too.
I will not go into anything DEV related, as I don't use ROMs based on the Dev, I use it based on how well it runs on my phone.
Nils' Business ICS 4.1 is my choice for Sense 3.6 out of everything I've tried. Great sound quality for Bluetooth audio. Everything works, no FCs, smooth, great theming. Love it!

NAND is your friend
Ineffabilis Deus has been by go to rom as of late.
it all defend on your preference!
This is totally subjective, but the first step is to figure out if you like Sense or not. That will help narrow it down by 50%
Beyond that, just try a bunch that have healthy threads and update frequency, and you can't go wrong.
Newt's XXX RLS1 is the best ROM I've run to date. Sense 4 is sick, and I haven't found one thing that doesn't work yet (besides the stupid data arrows, but who REALLY needs those anyway?) It's just too bad you can't get support in the thread for it here anymore, but he's easy to find if you know where to look.....

I've tried me7 Roms and other aosp Roms and I like how his provides bits of TW and aosp features together. This is his TW ROM.

I use Google Edition Pure by Dubbsy and hlxanthus.
I started with the modified version for a month or so, then I played around with PAC-Man ROM RC1 by Papa Smurf151 for a few days to test out a ton of custom features in one go. Some of them were quite good, but I got tired of all the options and customisations and just wanted stock Google again . So now I am on Google Edition Pure.
Being able to go to HALO and Pie to hardware buttons to the soft navbar (mod by hlxanthus) and all around again has really helped my form my UI tastes. Turns out I prefer Google's on-screen buttons, and one of the reasons why I bought the S4 was because of its hardware buttons!
I sold my iPhone and got the S4 on the weekend that the new update rolled out. I was able to get it home and root it and flash the GE ROM all on the first day. The only bugs have I've noticed have been the missing 4G bars (fixed), garbled carrier name (unimportant), and a few recent build glitches that I think are fixed now as well (MTP botched and random reboots). On the other had, I tried installing Google Wallet before, but I ended up having to reflash the ROM. Now this latest version has Wallet working out of the box.
Stock ME7 unrooted. Not by choice obviously, but to be honest with force gpu rendering it's incredibly fast and smooth for a stock experience. Great battery too.

Flashed over to Official PAC RC1 yesterday, and it's pretty awesome. I have yet to experience an issue, and it runs like a dream. I ran an older PAC on my Incredible2, and this just further cements my enjoyment of it. I'm sure I'll miss the TW camera soon, but that's what AndyBones BoneStock is for :good:
Also, forcing people to vote is probably going to get the thread locked as a "best ROM" thread. Not to mention the list is missing quite a few options, even those found on XDA - PAC has been around since we first got root.

I saw that in your op. I commented on that ROM/Mod/Kernel list thread, as I didn't realize it was still being updated.
"Daily Driver" is a term people throw around way too loosely, and it means different things to different people. For me, a daily driver is a ROM I can use for my normal activities without major bugs adversely affecting it. Longevity, to me, is irrelevant because there are quite a few ROMs that meet my criteria. I don't think I'm a "crack-flasher" so nightlies aren't my thing, but I've gotten pretty fast at setting up on a new ROM. So even though a ROM may run great for me, I like to change it up every now and then. I loved Beans' and DarkSlide - and would consider those daily drivers. I am now on PAC, and so far it meets all of my requirements. I'll probably switch to BoneStock in the next couple weeks, since ME7 is very smooth and the TW camera is a nice improvement over AOSP.
Im using HellsRom and its great. Pure stock and that's the way I like it for now. I havent found any bugs yet. Everything works great and very fast.

No Omega, Pacman, or Revolt?
I'm currently using Hyperdrive but it's my first custom ROM and I'm not too thrilled with it. Battery life seems a little worse than stock and TouchWiz just feels bloated naturally-- all the S4 stuff doesn't seem to work at all? Smart scroll, smart stay, etc?
Hyperdrive for me has been quirkier and actually a tad slower than stock. I don't mean to blame it but it's my observation based on the options I chose upon install, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid ROM for sure, however I'm definitely not tied to it yet.
