ICS is coming to the DX2! - Motorola Droid X2

I'm starting this on request from a little Birdie trying to help us out
let's keep the negative comments to yourself
title may be misleading....but only for now
more information to follow......

Okay, now you've piqued my interest

Im keeping my fingers crossed.

I really hope our anonymous tipster is a Motorola rat... that would be awesome and will lend him credibility... I hope so... things have been heating up and going really fast for our beloved X2 nowadays!
I am giddy with excitement!

I just wish aceoyame would tweet something soon, unless he's being held to secrecy for the moment. I know he's currently busy on the MIUI port for the X2, but even a little nugget is all we ask!

Lets hope, this is what Hash had to say in the other thread.

Well hashcode, who is another developer on here I'm getting, said he received an email back from him to but didnt go into detail with it other than the guy said he would be ready to send files later tonight.
By the way, these two threads seem like they are going to be the same thing until we actually get something confirmed. lol. Maybe we should just keep it all in the other thread for now.

no!
This thread is seperate from the other one. Hash will have everything soon. Hash will release ics 4.2 update from any current android version. This update is only for devices that have dual core processors. Links for all processor types ie. tegra 2 etc. This thread is only for the "unofficial" release of ice cream sandwich. BTW people stop sending me pm's my name isnt really melvin and my real email address isnt a hotmail one. So hash will have the details and who and what i am. but for now just call me digital robin hood! that sounds good!!!!

I didn't mean it as these threads are the same. Just the subject we are talking about is the same in both threads until something is released. THEN this will be the official thread. If we get something tonight from you, You are going to make A LOT of people happy. Something Motorola doesnt seem to care about. I like the "digital Robin Hood" name.

all bootloaders are is a digitally signed and verified peice of program. I mean its not like you can NEVER hack it or anything. I love the suspense! So here's the deal hash will have bootloader unlock apk for dx2 d2 d2 global bionic
d3 incredible,2 droid x and razr. This will unlock the codes for complete customization the kernel will be unlocked for different implementations. And my phone currently has ics version 4.2 on it my own version obviously!! After this goes viral i will have to go back into hiding i work for moto mobile i developed the security platform for moto. I dont wanna go into why etc you can ask hash for that i wrote him an email explaining everything. I will give you the updates for ice cream sandwich. I hope everyone enjoys this.

i don't believe so. toast supposedly gave aosp (the dev) a fully working rom.
Point is that if it was able to be released yet, it would be.
No dev wants to release something that still has tons of bugs. the threads will be just filled with arguing and angry *****ing members complaining about it not working.
Believe me, no one wants aosp more then i do.
I hope this means maybe a weekend release?! I always keep my hopes up! Go teamwin!

Yeah, believe he's working with Samsung if I'm not mistaken. Adding new non-samsung handsets to CM may be a restriction of the employment? I hope not, but could be a possibility. I know that if I were hiring someone and giving them privileged company info, I wouldn't want them dev'n for the competition.

[Q] Andriod 4.0 OS "Ice Cream Sandwich"

I was just wondering, how this will affect development of current roms and new roms?
Here is some info.
http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-everything-you-need-to-know-954464
It won't, and this is not at all development related. Post stuff like this in general where it belongs.
You may get a rom that is a port from another device, but don't count on it for several weeks.
oh man, i got all excited thinking someone had done an sdk build rom.
At this point with only 1-2 active ROM devs for the Photon I'm not holding my breath on anything but what Moto pumps out. I wish they would leave more of the gingerbread experience intact like the themed Alien ROM

Until Motorola pulls its head out of its ass and stops releasing phones in the shadow of bigger deal phones... and stops locking its bootloaders... you will never get a finished port of anything to a motorola phone... Photon was DOA in the developer arena since Evo3D came out just before. Locking up all the new 2 year contracts. Even the CM7 port has gone nowhere fast and will never leave alpha state. ICS won't even come close to photon by the time CM ports it.
The new RAZR will also be DOA with the nexus shadowing it. Moto has the same marketing skill as HP with touchpad... that is... none.
will ICS comes on PHOTON officially or no officially ?????
you will know it's official when they announce it for the phone officially.

They won't be getting rid of physical button entirely, especially on lower end devices where a smaller screen makes up the cost for adding buttons. Also - some users don't like on screen buttons.
Just because it has on screen controls doesn't mean they will be used for every device from here on out. I can assure you that more than "future" phones will have this OS - several phones currently out will get the update. And if you think other wise we have big issues.

LOL I may think otherwise...
It is still unclear. There needs to be a way to hide the onscreen honeycomb buttons for phones that already have buttons. What about the search button... that isn't shown as one of the new buttons. And the menu button replaced with the recent apps button.
ICS seems to be a larger update than Gingerbread was to Froyo and Froyo to Eclair. I suppose CM could hack it up to work on older phones.. but will manufacturers do that? Or did google add backwards compatibility with button-based phones?

there is no need to. the sdk is for building apps. anyone trying to base a rom off of its files is really wasting their time. it will be missing so many things that it booting would be a godsend. you are talking of a massive jump in kernel versions, froyo is on 2.6.32 gb is 2.6.35 ICS is 3.0.0
Wow what a douche move posting this here. I thought we had an sdk as well. *shakes old man fist*

Not sure why someone would start a thread like this. "My dad's friend works at Nintendo and Mewtwo is going to come out free soon" or things like that.
If anyone knows when ICS is coming out it is the people who search for leaks. *cough* *cough*
No sign of it very soon, but it is possible to see it in such a large given time-frame. 174 and 175 were dropped in favor of another update to 173. Then ICS should be out next, whenever they give it to Verizon for checking we should get it shortly after.
I sure you all were thinking the iphone 5 would come out and it would have LTE. I knew the truth.
P.S yes I made the 4 core phone thing up, because I knew that no one cared and no one ever asked just like I had for seen. I could tell of my "iphone "5" story. but there is no point.
Edit: I was just trying to give good news. (If it's true)

Droid X2 Among others to get ICS

This my be already posted but I haven't seen it on here yet. (this is my first post and I'm realllllly scared lol)
Motorola has released an updated list of their devices scheduled for Android 4.0! And finally, we have some confirmation that us X2 owners will get a taste of that delicious ICS. Moto hasn't really laid out the details yet, but atleast we know they're thinking about us! I found the article on Androidpolice.com. Thanks for the post, however, this does not guarantee that ics is coming to the Droid. Notice it is in the planning and evaluation mode. Note how other phones are listed at getting ics in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
I wouldn't hold your breath.
People, I understand how companies have to plan for releases. Believe me, I know as I am an architect and developer for a major utility company. What I expect from Motorola are constant updates, not some vague posting that sits there for months with NO updates what-so-ever. Kind of like how we were promised to have unlocked bootloaders by the 4th quarter of 2011 and it never happened. Motorola NEVER gave an update as to why this was nor if they were going to do it at a later date. Instead, dead silence and then the release of the Droid RAZR Developer Edition which costs $100 more than the MSP and no guarantee that it would be released by Verizon or other carriers. In fact, it's not schedule for release in the US for some time, which could turn out to be never.
So, don't take this update from Motorola sitting down. We MUST continue to hound them, tactfully, to release ICS for the X2 and other Motorola phones that are more than capable of running it. In addition, they MUST be made to come through on their promise to unlock the bootloader. Remember, do it with tact. As I've stated in another post, I've already filed my BBB complaint to Motorola which has been accepted by the BBB and forwarded on to Motorola, so the ball is in their court now. I suggest everyone else does the same. The more complaints, the more likely they respond, hopefully with a gesture that meets our wants and needs.

ROM LOVE! CM9, AOKP, Gummy, etc etc...

Now that the bootloader has been bypassed, can we please get official CM9 and AOKP with stable releases and everything working? My friend has an SGS2 and its already running CM9. And I know for a fact that the RAZR is WAYYYY better than the SGS2. So let the ROM MANIA BEGIN! =D
I wish I can run CM9 but I am afraid that the bypass is still in so beta stage that it will take more time until we see cm and others...
Bypass is not working. It's very close though.
Only one CPU core works for now. An overclocked DX will beat your phone, and maybe that's OK.
Bypass is working right? I dont see why we cant have CM9 with only 1 core working, its fine! =D

Exactly my point. Lets start working on custom ROMs with what we have right now. Kholk and mbm seemed to have worked pretty hard on this and it'll be a shame if we can't take advantage of it and start work on custom ROMs. Moto's gonna delay the stock ICS for us anyways.

Droid X. Not MAXX, lol.
I can overclock my old DX to 1425MHz v the Razr Maxx 1200MHz (stock).
Dual core isn't likely to work anytime soon; I cloned the source code and looked for an easy solution, but the kexec owners exhausted the options from what I can see.
A single-core 1200MHz ARM processor will still make a powerful device however. I'm with you: I'd like to play with a CM9 build. And MIUI. Even a single-core CM9 might beat a dual-core stock build.
/My two cents worth.

So why don't you go and develop them? Unless of course you are that guy found in every sub forum that likes to complain about the lack of development but doesn't contribute anything.

You're clouding the discussion with facts and reasonable argument. Is that fair?
Personally, I don't complain here or elsewhere unless there's a good reason, like when someone calls a writeable/moddable "image" a "ROM" (which means Read-Only-Memory). Call it a package, or image - call it something new - but drop the term "ROM" in the toilet where it belongs.
Maybe that's grammar Nazi nonsense, but this is science. Science requires consistent and accurate communication, else it's just a chaotic mud-scramble by bald smelly apes with beer.
Mmm beer.

Your complaint about 'ROM' has nothing to do with grammar. Don't try to act like a 'grammar nazi' if you don't even know a thing about grammar.

WOah! Chill. I'm not complaining. I'm just presenting the statement that let the development begin. U may be the guy complaining, not me. And you're not the one to judge if I contribute anything or not.

Then I guess we should thank you for being the visionary to be the only one to think about this. I imagine the ROMs will flow like water now that you created this thread.
By the way I wasn't judging you for not contributing anything. Just pointing out that you are busy asking where the free development is instead of doing it yourself.

You are really a sarcastic person, aren't you? I was just stating the obvious. U don't have to criticize me for it.
