[Q]Advise on Rom and Kernel combinations. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, well i tried to search for good combinations, but nothing seemed to work so far. First of all i installed CM 7.1 mod, then villainrom, then foxhound and etc. Now my battery drains so fast and i want to start like from begining. Can you guys advise me a good rom and kernel to suit my needs? I need smooth uiand good battery life. I would like to get a mod that would be not far from original rom, it should be optimized, all the unnecesary programs should be cleaned, all the logs and debuggings and etc off so i could get max out from my battery life and performance. (Like speed mod kernel (using it atm))
Oh and I'm now using speedmod kernel and batista70 foxhound edition 3.0 - xwkl1, but my baseband version is i9100xxkl1, does that make difference of the baseband version? And is that combination is good? Thanks for your answers.

There is no best rom, if your battery is draining, check for wakelocks using betterbatterystats (see my sig).

Do the thing that Veyka has said. Click the link on his sig. Download the app. Betterbatterystats. Find out what causes the wakelocks under partial wakelocks first. then remove or freeze using titanium backup the app that causes the drain. Simple as that. Regarding kernel and rom. For you i would suggest speedmod. No need to tweak around with it or nothing. Just flash away and let the kernel do its job for you. Regarding rom..All roms are good..It is down to you to find the one that meets your needs..Good luck

Try turkbeyRom with siyah kernel. My personal favorite was liteningRom, but the developer discontinued its support, so I switched over to TurkbeyRom, it is definitely the best or one of the best Roms out there. Here is a link to the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347711

Siyah kernel. Most popular kernel for sgs2 at the moment. Unified kernel, can be flashed on any Samsung based rom or aosp roms like miui and cm7.

Well, it depends on how wisely you undervolt and also make use of many no of features this kernel offers. I haven't used miui. So i don't know if something specific, like media scanner running endlessly or something that's causing battery drain.
I'm on gingermod rom. With siyah, battery is really good. See this (my own ) post about some of the features for saving battery in Siyah, that the dev has incorporated. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19231855&postcount=9615
Reviving an old thread.... now that MIUI hmade the jump to ICS.... which kernel do you recommend?

[Q] Best Cynogenmod Rom for battery backup

Hi,
I am currently using NightlyFourE Based 4.1 New Baseband ROM. After installing i am facing huge battery drain. I tried installing PerfectPeso.v1.7a rom also but its doing the same. I hardly get 7-9 hours of battery backup. Even when the phone is idle it drains 1% every 2-3 minutes, i have wiped batter stats after installing the ROM. Before i was using the default LG Gingerbread 2.3.3 stock ROM with atleast 19-24 hour backup with same use.
Can anyone suggest me a cynogen rom which will give me more battery backup, Please suggest suitable kernel for battery backup.
Suggest android version is 2.3.7 but can use 2.3.3 also. Also provide the link as multiupload doest seem to work anymore.
Mobile- LG Optimus One

But still if any one want to suggest me the best rom for the best battery backup ill be thankful
The best ROM is the one that you test and see if it fits to you.
Please don't ask wich is better.

Difference between ics roms

Hello,
i've seen many defferent roms all based on ics and i was woundering whats the big difference? i mean they all run the same system and have all the same feathers so why are there so many roms?
thanks
Customised as per the developers ideas .
You read the roms description posted for what's been removed added or themed .
Not all roms are based on ICS some are GB roms some are straight non Samsung ICS clones even direct Google Builds even an independent OS or two .
All cars are a box with wheels = same answer .
jje
Maybe so... but all cars have different panels hp and so
i've read some decriptions and they all seem very similar to me...
are there roms based on ics ( im not talking about gb) that really differ from each other?
Have you had Humburgers from Mcdonald and Burger King, same ingredients but different taste.....
There are many tweeks and tunings make the Rom different and stable...some devs have got magic touch for making their Roms outstanding...
hmmm you mean to tell me that different roms may influence the battery lifetime and stability of the phone?

In one word - "YES".
I played with various ICS ROMS, and can say based on experience that they all differ somehow - mostly its tweaks which influence overall performance (benchmarks - mostly CPU and SD card related), battery life, stability (no Force Closures) and various features (Beats Audio, silent camera with better FPS and enhanced image quality, call recording, preinstalled apps, removed bloatware, etc).
I tryed many and can advise to install either Lite'ning ROM v3.1 (via Odin), or Resurrection Remix ROM v1.9.1 - I had both and now run Resurrection Remix ROM - very happy ;]].
My advice - check both and use any you prefer with Apex Launcher - best performance vs. battery.
Don't forget that its very much about someone's experience as a ROM cook - if you are 18 years old and messing for fun, or you are a young (or not) professional (or getting there) and already learned a lot via fixed mistakes...;]]
Hope it helps.
ive seen some atricals that change of karnel may also improve the battery life...
can i flash any karnel i want with the roms i curently use? and will it help? or the only thing i can do to improve my battery life, camera each.. is to change the rom?

Mostly yes if compatible .

you need the basics start with Better Battery Stats thread and app .
But you would be better off reading the basics first .

I'm running the exact same rom but with the NOVA launcher because it feels alot smoother in contrary to the apex launcher. For me the reason to go for a custom rom is mainly battery life and lots of customization abbilities. Removed bloatware fix alot of battery drains present in stock roms.
Kernel I'd something that is gonna control ur CPU power and volts that battery can provide so yes it has a great impact on how ur battery performs.and each ROM is different in it's style, performance, stability and Addons it has to offer

[Q] Most suitable Kernel for CM10 M66B

Hey guys, i'm running CM10 by M66B (421) the last release by him and i was wondering what's the most suitable kernel which i could use for it. I need performance (gaming) and battery life. I currently am on the stock nAa by M66B which was included in a zip and i thought if there is a more suitable kernel out there, i should try it. The only problem is that i don't have enough time to try all JB kernels at the moment (though i tried nAa 3.0.8 kernel 3) and it does have battery problems.
Another request is to how to get the maximum performance on CM10 M66B? What do you guys suggest should i try?
Thanks a lot,
Ishan
Everyone has different choices. What may seem good for one person, may not be suitable for the needs of the other. You can try reading the comments of diffent JB kernels to know about their performance. And xda dosen't allow comparing between roms/kernel.

Hmmm...there NOTHING more suitable kernel for CM10 Extended Roms by M66B than its own kernel made special for his roms...the roms and kernel are made to to help each other, making your phone as stable and usable for daily use..

Different kernel with CM 10.1.3

Hey guys,
What's the best kernel to flash with CM 10.1.3 (stable release)? Maybe one that supports BLN, or improves battery life...

Sigh... there is no "best kernel"... insert 'whatever suits your needs best' blurb here, something like "Everyone will have different needs, you need to test which one suits your needs. No one can tell you that, all kernels can be configured differently for battery life/performance....
Long and the short of it, if you're not prepared to flash for yourself and test a bit, you're probably best sticking with the stock CM kernel. I will tell you that Dorimanx and Apolo both have versions compatible with 10.1.3, the rest is up to you.
