Hey guys,
What's the best kernel to flash with CM 10.1.3 (stable release)? Maybe one that supports BLN, or improves battery life...

Sigh... there is no "best kernel"... insert 'whatever suits your needs best' blurb here, something like "Everyone will have different needs, you need to test which one suits your needs. No one can tell you that, all kernels can be configured differently for battery life/performance....
Long and the short of it, if you're not prepared to flash for yourself and test a bit, you're probably best sticking with the stock CM kernel. I will tell you that Dorimanx and Apolo both have versions compatible with 10.1.3, the rest is up to you.

Siyah kernel. Most popular kernel for sgs2 at the moment. Unified kernel, can be flashed on any Samsung based rom or aosp roms like miui and cm7.

Well, it depends on how wisely you undervolt and also make use of many no of features this kernel offers. I haven't used miui. So i don't know if something specific, like media scanner running endlessly or something that's causing battery drain.
I'm on gingermod rom. With siyah, battery is really good. See this (my own ) post about some of the features for saving battery in Siyah, that the dev has incorporated. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19231855&postcount=9615
Reviving an old thread.... now that MIUI hmade the jump to ICS.... which kernel do you recommend?
Hello, well i tried to search for good combinations, but nothing seemed to work so far. First of all i installed CM 7.1 mod, then villainrom, then foxhound and etc. Now my battery drains so fast and i want to start like from begining. Can you guys advise me a good rom and kernel to suit my needs? I need smooth uiand good battery life. I would like to get a mod that would be not far from original rom, it should be optimized, all the unnecesary programs should be cleaned, all the logs and debuggings and etc off so i could get max out from my battery life and performance. (Like speed mod kernel (using it atm))
Oh and I'm now using speedmod kernel and batista70 foxhound edition 3.0 - xwkl1, but my baseband version is i9100xxkl1, does that make difference of the baseband version? And is that combination is good? Thanks for your answers.
There is no best rom, if your battery is draining, check for wakelocks using betterbatterystats (see my sig).
Do the thing that Veyka has said. Click the link on his sig. Download the app. Betterbatterystats. Find out what causes the wakelocks under partial wakelocks first. then remove or freeze using titanium backup the app that causes the drain. Simple as that. Regarding kernel and rom. For you i would suggest speedmod. No need to tweak around with it or nothing. Just flash away and let the kernel do its job for you. Regarding rom..All roms are good..It is down to you to find the one that meets your needs..Good luck
Try turkbeyRom with siyah kernel. My personal favorite was liteningRom, but the developer discontinued its support, so I switched over to TurkbeyRom, it is definitely the best or one of the best Roms out there. Here is a link to the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347711
Hey guys, i'm running CM10 by M66B (421) the last release by him and i was wondering what's the most suitable kernel which i could use for it. I need performance (gaming) and battery life. I currently am on the stock nAa by M66B which was included in a zip and i thought if there is a more suitable kernel out there, i should try it. The only problem is that i don't have enough time to try all JB kernels at the moment (though i tried nAa 3.0.8 kernel 3) and it does have battery problems.
Another request is to how to get the maximum performance on CM10 M66B? What do you guys suggest should i try?
Thanks a lot,
Ishan
Everyone has different choices. What may seem good for one person, may not be suitable for the needs of the other. You can try reading the comments of diffent JB kernels to know about their performance. And xda dosen't allow comparing between roms/kernel.

Hmmm...there NOTHING more suitable kernel for CM10 Extended Roms by M66B than its own kernel made special for his roms...the roms and kernel are made to to help each other, making your phone as stable and usable for daily use..
Hey, first of all thanks alot for all the development and crazy amount of information going on in here
I have searched but unfortunately I couldn't find a solution to my problem so I'm asking here. I recently installed official Cyanogenmod 10.2 stable release on my i9300 international S3 (since CM11 gave me some bugs) and it's pretty great so far, but I've been searching a way to change the color settings of the screen. On CM there are some built in ones but I don't really like those. On the 4.3 Stock Samsung ROM there was "Professional Photo" or something like that that I did like. Does anyone know what I can do? If I understood correctly kernels can do that sort of stuff but I didn't find a kernel to suit my needs.
Thanks in advance

Yes you understood it correctly If your Planning to run a ROM based on CM Screen modes like Dynamic, Professional Photo etc Are available only through custom Kernel.
In Sammy as v all know you can change it under settings but for CM unfortunately you have to stick to Kernel Settings to do that.
Almost All popular Kernels Have that option under Screen>MDNIE mode
All you have to do is select the right kernel
Unfortunatly You asked a Question in this Thread and Also Gave an answer for the same.
Just remeber that for CM ul have to stick to some Externel Kernel as these options wont be available with stock CM 10.2 Kernel as well
Just as a recommendation give GoogyMax , Boeffla, Agni a try as these gave me really good results(Special Thx to Dev's of the same )

Thanks for the reply
I've looked into GoogyMax and Boeffla but as far as I could tell they don't support color changing. If I do install them what can I do to change the colors?
And I have yet to install a kernel, does it come in a zip file that I can install in CWM?

Wrong GoogyMax supports it . Give it a try .

I also opened this thread if you think you can help me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/gps-cm-10-2-i9300-t2667873
I'm really frustrated because I like vanilla android and CM is just so much faster than TouchWiz (I'm no won Android Revolution HD 40.0), I switched just because of the GPS issue but I really don't want it as my daily driver.. Maybe a different AOSP based ROM you know that the GPS would work in?

Strange To hear that. Well ive never used Stock CM so cant Comment on that GPS issue.
As Far As Now the AOSP or AOKP Roms ive used have never Had this GPS issue. You Can Try Anyone From Below Thread (CM 10.2/1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/10-04-index-roms-t2218825
For me i would have chosen between PACMAN PARANOID n SLIMBEAN . All are great for Daily use
Also Check out This ROM. MY personal favourite Amongst All. Bug Free and Stable , Archidroid but its KK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-archidroid-v2-3-3-power-hands-t2354859
Yes CM is definately Smoother than TouchWIz( Thx to Free RAM ). But Try out the ArchiDroid Stock Sammy ROM. You Might Like it for its smoothness
Rom recommendations are not allowed on xda. You have to try out and search for which rom suits u the best same goes with kernels

Hello! I thinking about rom and kernel for my neo but... i cant find good combo. One kernel can OC my cpu to 1.8GHz but next crashing phone on 1.8GHz, some roms aren't stable. What rom + kernel you prefer?

Welcome to XDA, I see you are new, but here on XDA "best" threads are found useless, as everyone have different opinion on best rom/kernel.
You will find best rom/kernel, by simply trying them out and finding which one best suits your needs.
Usually, people can help you if you specify what exactly you need from rom/kernel and by that I don't mean " I need it fast/stable" kind of specification
Oh and yes, 1.8GHz is a bit to much for this phone, just for your information 1.4GHz was sometime useful but 1.8GHz..no point really.

Since you are new, If you want to go with the jellybean then I personally have used Super JellyBean 8(details about which kernal to use are mentioned in the thread) which is good and stable..but there are so many good roms out there... You may try them as per your requirements
Hope this answers your question.

Hi there. I think that CyanogenMod 11 from LegacyXperia Project is one of the best ROMs and I advise you to use it with Dark Kernel.
Also I prefer using Android 2.3 because it's faster. One of my favorite ROMs is Gin2KitKat.
