SO I have an international SGSII and I now live in US. I can't get 3G or H+ with T-mobile. The only company I know of that would offer me that speed is at&t But they are sooo expensive!
Are here any alternatives to get the highspeed?
I found a company that's on same network as at&t but they aren't that much cheaper. Thanks for help!

I don't think there are any other carriers in the US that use the necessary frequencies for mobile high-speed other than AT&T and H2O, no.

Yup, this works; I've got this exact setup, and my bill is around $65 a month. That's for 450 anytime minutes (with rollover), 5000 night/weekend minutes (with rollover), unlimited mobile to any mobile minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited "non-smartphone" data.
From what I hear, you could even go on the GoPhone unlimited everything plan for $50 a month, and it works.
The ISGS2 doesn't support T-Mobile US' bands so you'll get 500K down using GRPS. GoPhone plan's double that to about 950K. If you want fake-4G, you'll have to go with a real AT&T plan. What you can do is sign up for a cheap minutes plan and add unlimited messaging with mobile-to-any-mobile calling ($20) and add the unlimited data for non-smartphones plan for $10. It's not too bad a price that way.

So what you guys mean is that if I get an at&t plan (whichever one) and puch in these apn settings I will get unlimited HSPA? Even if I get a prepaid plan? Do I have to get a data plan included or what?
This is exciting!
I'm not sure about the pre-paid plans but it definitely works for me on my family plan. You'll just have to try it out and report back!
By the way, I wouldn't tell at&t that you have a gs2, just tell them its an old unlocked flip phone you got off of eBay. You can even give them a fake imei #.

Wha?
Yes, you'll have to get SOME kind of data plan. I think any data plan will do. I am using this very phone on the "unlimited data for non-smartphones" data plan just fine, and get pretty decent HSPA+ speeds - usually between 1.5 and 6 mbps down.
Think for a second, dude. If you don't get a data plan at all, when your phone tries to connect to the gateway, it will not get a connection.

But I'll try this and report back as soon as I touch US soil again .
If you have an old at&t phone you can use that imei to give at&t or change a few #'s on your i9100 imei. At&t won't recognize the imei from your i9100 even if you do give them that #. I always give them a fake # just in case.
Yes, get whatever plan for calling you want, but tell them you want the unlimited data for non smart phones.

If you already have an AT&T SIM card that is at least 3g capable, you don't HAVE to tell them squat. I haven't told AT&T about any of my last 3 phones - an XT701, a Motorola Milestone, or this one. I just plugged my SIM card in, and away I went.

In this case, you sacrificed potentially higher speeds in the future (when LTE comes online in your market, if it hasn't already), for a cheaper unlimited plan.
Not saying I wouldn't have done the same (I totally would have - I've decided an average of 3mbps down on HSPA+ is PLENTY fast enough for my phone... it's a phone for crying out loud! So I'm staying on my non-smartphone plan), just pointing it out.
Where I live they have to pipe sunlight in, I won't have LTE for a long time. Where I work I get around 3 mbps down so that's plenty for me as well.

So, Im back in LA. The first thing I did was to go to AT&T store and buy myself a prepaid plan. $50, includes unlimited, talk, text and data for non-smartphones. Then I punched in the APN settings and now I have H+!
I did a speed test and the results were pretty decent:
PING: 156
DOWNLOAD: 3683kbps
UPLOAD: 733kbps
It's good enough, even though in Sweden we have sooo much better and faster... I did the speed test in Sweden and the numbers were doubled for D/U.
But I have another question. My roommate has an iPhone, and we tried to punch in the same APN (which by the way is soooo annoying and complicated....). But they never worked for him. Does anyone, for some reason, know if they work on iPhone 4s? And if yes how do I do it the "easy way"

No offense, but you'd be better off asking iPhone questions in an iPhone forum. There is not a very high percentage of i9100 users who also use iPhones... Not to say that there aren't any at all. I know they exist. Just saying.

So based off of reading this thread..
I have T-Mobile prepaid right now.
I will be receiving an i9100 sometime this week, and don't want to live with EDGE.
Can I sign up for a plan online, get unlimited data for non smartphones, get a cheapo free non smartphone, then just pop the sim into the i9100?
Or can I just get a GoPhone plan and pop the sim into the i9100?

I think either will work.
EDIT: FYI, I've got the unlimited data for non smartphones from back when I had a sony ericsson w810, and have gone through three other smartphones before this one just by popping my SIM card into the new phone. Just make sure the SIM card is at least 3g capable. They should all be at this point, but you never know if they're still giving out old SIM cards or not.

So I had a Touch Pro2 and the internet worked as it should with no restrictions, when I first put my SIM card into my new Vibrant the internet worked and everything so rooted, flashed a few ROMs/kernals until I got the right combination and the internet doesn't work... it takes me to that stupid web2go crap.
So I put the SIM in my TP2 and it works like normal, then back into the Vibrant and still goes to that crappy web2go! I can't use the market or anything because, for some reason, it won't let me use the internet plan I pay for!
Anyone might know why and how to fix it? Should I call T-Mobile and complain?
I mean when I do go into market the 3G arrows do show that it's doing something, but I always get the whole "Please check your internet connection and try again" and I have manually selected T-Mobile as my carrier in the settings, airplane mode on, reboot, then off... nothing works .
I love this phone lol any help is greatly appreciated!!
Call T-Mobile.
When I switched from a Blackberry to my Vibrant I had to call T-Mobile and switch from the BB data plan to the Android one. Before I did that I had a lot of weird issues. Might be something like that.
But isn't like Windows Mobile and Android listed as the same type of smartphone?
Ugh, so I might have to pay more for my internet??
Man T-Mobile is getting outrageous. They're lucky they have nice phones... man I'll be pissed if my internet is going to cost more.
Nope, it'll cost the same. ALL smartphone plans cost $30, and $25 for loyal customer discount.

I pay $20 as loyal
Wonder when I'll be considered a loyal customer? Been with them for like 3 years, but never had a contract lol...
So I'll just basically have to change to a "different" data plan specifically for Android but will cost the same? Well that's stupid.
Check Settings
Check your APN settings, Does it say epc.tmobile.com?
Yes sir, and APN Type says internet + MMS.
All my settings are as follows:
(I will only post the things that have some sort of value in them)
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication Type: None
APN Type: internet + mms
Doing some googling it appears that those are all the correct and only needed values :/, yeah just going to give T-Mobile a call tomorrow... weird though .
There are 2 (maybe 3?) android data plans...Mytouch line and similar use a specific data plan, and all other android phones use a generic data plan.
Had to switch from the G1/MT3GS plan to the "Android" plan once I got my Vibrant.
So it pisses me off when places like T-Mobile try to jip off customers just because of the quality of the phone.
My Touch Pro2 (with the 20$ data plan) gets the EXACT SAME GOD DAMN 3G that my Vibrant gets (HSDPA 2100).. so why the hell do I have to pay 10 extra dollars for "Android" internet??
WHAT the **** is the difference?? What the hell extra am I paying for? Not like this phone gets 4G then maybe I would understand.
Ugh pisses me off badly, going to call them tomorrow just to trip them up as to WHY and WHAT am I paying for extra when the data throughput is the EXACT same!!
Bah!!
Hi everyone,
I just got the phone from the shipment yesterday and I just swap the sim card that I'm using and it work out of the blue. But today I got a msg from AT&T that I need the correct data plan in order for the 4G to work???
So here's the story, the plan I'm currently using is iPhone unlimited data plan back in 2009 then I get the Captivate, keeping the same data plan and internet still works normally. Now come the galaxy s ii with the so-called 4G speed I noticed I still get the same speed as the Captivate? The only different is on the Captivate it shows H but on the galaxy s ii it shows H+.
Is it supposed to say 4G or something on the indicator? or H+ is the 4G that AT&T is blowing up about?
Supposedly there's a new unlimited data plan you should be able to be put on. Look at the threads of people using iPhone 2gs to get unlimited.

Interesting. I can't say for certain but I do know there's only supposed to be 1 HSDPA Unlimited plan for Smartphones. If you go into your account online and go to Manage Features > View All Included Features - do you see SMT Personal $30? If you do, and you saw the code you listed on your actual current data usage screen, I'm pretty sure you're good. Obviously I'd call just to make sure...

To make it simple, call ATT or go into a store and have them update your IMEI so it will also update the correct plan for you.
There's no difference in price, just a different SOC code in the system. So yes, you keep your unlimited data!
If you go into a store, they *should* be able to change your sim free of charge. It doesn't really make anything better, but it doesn't hurt to keep everything updated.

I did some speedtest but results turn out the same as before, still got the same speed as my Captivate thou... avg about 2 Mbps - 3 Mbps for download and 800 kbps - 1.2 Mbps for upload (This is in San Jose area, not sure about the speed in other areas)
So basically if you live in NorCal, you don't need to go through all the hassle to change the current data plan.

Didn't cost me anything, plus we don't even have 4G in the St Louis market yet, so no big deal either way.
I asked this in the Note section as they have a different issue as ATT CAN see their devices as "smartphones" Many have spoken of GoPhone as an option for UL data and messaging.
We are off contract with two i9100s on $15 MediaNet sharing 700 minutes with NO messaging plan. We are paying $100 a month.
Seems to me we can transfer to a GoPhone plan for $50 with unlimited everything using any device (except maybe the iPhone) Why not use that advantage especially since LTE is not widely available and some may not really need the extra speeds.
What am I missing? We already get 3G+ (H) data speeds using the wap.cingular apn provisioned for MediaNet using our actual i9100 IMEIs

No I am not on that plan I am doing some research into possibly switching to it though. I am reading conflicting information on download speeds. Guess I should just call ATT.
EDIT called ATT. Claimed Speeds were the same as what we were getting now on MediaNet But Data would cost the same for a smart phone as a regular plan. So technically one could do the same as we are doing ow on the regular plan. give them the IMEI of the phone we are using and it will show up as a Dumbphone and get $50 Unlimited everything using the MediaNet APN
ATT has our SGS i9100 IMEIs If they did a sweep they would see them anyway. So I gave them the real ones. I have been on mine since last July. I may switch over to Gophone. Probably only need to call them and say switch us. The Additional benefit would be messaging which we do not currently have and unlimited calling.
We are paying $100 now without messaging and 700 minutes.
UPDATE: This worked well for a short time but now reverts back to the up sell page. My only guess is T-Mo caught on and shut us out; YMMV.
I searched the forum and didn't see this, although I may have missed it. Just wanted to share in case it hasn't been posted or for anyone that may not know.
[Disclaimer: I have no idea if this will inevitably result in a loss of service, so don't blame me if that happens! Proceed at your own risk.]
I recently got a T-Mo prepaid SIM to use with my unlocked i777, as AT&T's coverage where I work is basically nonexistent. I had a rep set me up with the $15/month unlimited text plan which I quickly realized has no web access included (not even pay per MB lol). This was confirmed by opening the browser and being greeted by a T-Mo upsell page.
Okay, so... after some digging around and trying different APN settings, I found a workaround:
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Username: TMobile.com 0000000000 (use your phone # in place of 0000000000)
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: Internet+MMS
After saving and selecting the new APN, I now have data! Confirmed this by loading multiple pages in the browser. It may be slow, but it's still nice to have available for the times when you really need it!
Cool trick, did you do any speed tests?
it would be edge (2g) speeds because this phones 3g and 4g (hspa) radios are built for att frequencies only, but att and T-Mobile share the same 2g frequency.
Still working internet is working internet. Good find.

No, I didn't even think about that at the time. As stated above, it'll only be Edge speeds. I'm not sure it would be any faster even if our phone supported the proper bands, since it's using the WAP APN meant for cheapo feature phones.
If data could be fix to use 3g I would go pick up a Sim and only use T-Mobile. Att keeps getting more and more expensive.

This phone is physically and technically incapable of using 3g on T-Mobile.

I recently got a T-Mo prepaid SIM to use with my unlocked i777, as AT&T's coverage where I work is basically nonexistent. I had a rep set me up with the $15/month unlimited text plan...
After saving and selecting the new APN, I now have data! Confirmed this by loading multiple pages in the browser. It may be slow, but it's still nice to have available for the times when you really need it!

This might sound silly, but if anyone knows... 1.) Does there need to be a working Tmo card in the phone w/ that APN (vs. att card), 2.) Does it need to have recurring services or could any purchased prepaid Tmo card be swapped into the 777 in an emergency?
I ask b/c AT$T data services blow in my area and I currently have a network data block to avoid paying for said unusable services...I'm curious if this would work in an emergency on the road or if it's likely that Tmo data is as bad as AT$T's.

An (educated) guess tells me 1. Yes, you would need to have the T-Mo SIM in when using the APN. And 2. I would imagine so, since your phone number is used as the Username in the APN, and I'm sure their network identifies the request as either coming from an active/inactive account.
So, if i can use 3g 4g only with AT&T, how come mine is working with Tim (brazilian carrier) ?

No one said that. Learn to read.

Hmmmm interesting. I am on Tmobile but not a prepaid card. I'm tempted to try this but don't want to get hit with data charges after...

It's not only with AT&T. AT&T and T-mobile use different bands for 3g. Obviously TIM uses the same bands as AT&T.
Is this still working for anybody? All of a sudden I started getting the web2go error page.
And since upgrading to CM9, I don't even get that anymore. I get Unable to connect to the Internet. No edge logo up top or anything.
iXNyNe said:
it would be edge (2g) speeds because this phones 3g and 4g (hspa) radios are built for att frequencies only, but att and T-Mobile share the same 2g frequency.
Still working internet is working internet. Good find.

Not quite correct - AT&T and international frequencies. Basically everything but AWS1700 (T-Mo)

Same thing is happening on my end. Guess T-Mo is on to us.

Straight Talk for the i777 is totally there for you to make the switch. All you need is :
Straight talk Sim
At least on months service
Correct APN via settings>carrier>APN (access point names)
What device are you thinking or leaning towards after your i777? We wanna know. Share your next move with your straight talk service!
This is the link to the nexus 4 with straight talk. If you wanna check it out. I'm gonna also put up another link that talks about why everyone should actually look into this method of service.

Straight Talk is cheap and a good option if you don't use (much) data.

I think so. I do mainly have WiFi around me all day anyway. Home and work. I listen to Pandora on the way to and from though.

If you'll be using the AT&T network, be careful. They also track daily data usage. Something like 70-100mb a day will cause you to get suspended.
Yeah. I was reading the nexus 4 thread for the straight talk. They where changing the info and proxy info to not get suspended and or get better data and cell coverage. Think that's possible with the i777 as well?

I was looking into the straight talk plans for my son. The one plan says its 45 a month with unlimited talk text and data. Is it not unlimited?

Not truly unlimited. I would read the fine print. There's something called the fair usage policy or something like that. Still a good deal if your son is not a heavy user

Not unlimited. Head over to the nexus 4 (straight talk thread) and read what those guys are doing. You can change some codes around to get better signal strength and do things to not get capped on data. Its pretty neat. Im headed in that direction. I'm not resigning again. I'm gonna use this phone to make the switch.

I switched over roughly 4 months ago and couldn't be happier. I get more than I did with ATT for less money. I was only getting 450 minutes, 200 texts and unlimited data for around $80, where as I now get unlimited everything for $45 a month.
I haven't noticed anything in regards to data caps. I'm not an extremely heavy user, but I don't attempt to use as little as possible either. Most of the extremely heavy users are people that are just abusing the system anyway.

Correct. I have the i777. I purchased the sim card from their website. It took roughly 3 business days for the sim card to get here. If you're looking to keep your same phone number/port it to Straight Talk. I found the most effective method for doing so is doing it through the Straight Talk website where you simply fill in the forms with your information as well as your account information. The transfer process took approximately 30 seconds to finish(not including typing in the information). I was up and running on Straight Talk basically immediately after submitting the information and putting the sim card in my phone. Now that time frame can vary, but I've seen that it's a rather consistent trend in regards to transfer times. I swapped my fiancee's phone over as well(she is using the Infuse) and it took the same time frame to complete. Just make sure you have all of your information on hand when you are ready to transfer over(phone number, account number, password/pin, social security number of the account holder of the previous carrier and their basic contact information as well.)
My wife has the iphone4s. At&t. We are going go both do it. I'm up for renewal now. She is soon. Sounds pretty smooth on the transition.

First I've heard of "Straight Talk". I've rarely used data in the past, and only started because I was paying for it anyway

I don't think its that bad....its the people who abuse the data that get capped on data usage.... from what I understand. Also, some are experiencing lower speeds due to high volumes in certain areas with heavy usage and peak times. Thinking that is being idled down ......

Sweet that's nice to know. Well if she has Google on her focus then you can just transfer over her account on to the s2 and her contacts should be there . Just have to make sure its Synced. I'm not very familiar with the windows set up. Thank you for posting and sharing feedback. Good luck with the transition on to the s2 (much better phone!)

^ I concur to this statement
ST S2 i777 Settings.
Glad to know that someone has the S2 running on ST. Unfortunately, I've not been able to get my phone to connect. I think when I got the phone the EFS/NV files had been corrupted.
Can any of you guys who have a working system for ST with an i777 please post up your settings. You can copy and paste the information below and fill in the details by looking at the Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. You can leave your Username and Password off if you have it set but it should say NOT SET.
Name:
APN:
Proxy:
Port:
UserName:
Password:
Server:
MMSC:
MMS Proxy:
MMS Port:
MCC:
MNC:
Authentication Type:
APN Type:
APN Protocol:
APN Enable/Disable: Check Marked but Greyed Out.
Bearer:
The information that I got with the ST card with all of the settings does NOT list the MCC or MNC settings and the settings I found online do NOT match the settings I was given by the ST rep when I talked to them on the phone. So any help/settings would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time and trouble folks.
BTW, I'll go again and see if I can find a "Settings" thread and delete this post if I do.

Pm zeroisntahero. He has st on the i777 . Good luck ! I hope you can get it resolved.
