So, here I am, I've been several years a reliable SE customer.
Well, ain't that anymore!
- K550i :
* hardware fabrication fault (phone turned itself off by the smallest shock/hobble)
- x1a:hardware fabrication fault
* motherboard
- x10:hardware fabrication fault
*motherboard
I've seen a lot of people (including myself) spitting their anger on the SE forum, just below the new arc. I've lost my trust, & so do thousands of x10 users.
& I haven't talked about the update-service yet....
Same with samsung/htc? The ones who quit SE (I'm sure I am not the only one who's lost their trust), what's your opinion?
It seems Samsung is also like SE. May be HTC is better.
Manufacturers have their pros and cons. As it stands, HTC has the biggest dev support and is the smartest choice if you want to maximize your phone's potential. SE, although a bit like Samsung as far as limited upgradability and bugfix support in the current XPERIA line, to me is not a bad choice. For most people the device works and mostly delivers on the platform's expected performance and features.
I would love nothing more than to get a bug free firmware but product branding seems to be top priority for some of these manufacturers. It's not all bad, but timescape and mediascape to me aren't fleshed out applications and time spent creating them should've been relegated to software/hardware R&D and QC.
Also, the X10 was their first venture into high end Android territory, the roadmap should have taken into consideration what kind of impression they would like to make in the Android community. Looking back it seems like SE cares about their user base because they gave us 2.1 and only a few days ago, dual touch. But as an X10 owner, I don't like hearing news about the x10's EOL because there are still bugs to fix yet. Bugs that should have taken top priority to address but there you go, they still exist. Not to mention an OS upgrade can breathe new life into the device because it's just too early to let it take a back seat in favor of new handsets that are only marginally better than the X10.
A great impression is an investment and will ensure brand loyalty. I think it has a lot to do with SE's business practice and how they are obviously so unprepared for the Android market on their first try. It pains me to see them stumble as they learn the ropes but some things are just not negotiable. Like trying to make customers believe that the x10 is not capable of DT. WTF?
All in all, I think the X10 is a masterpiece of a modern device and I'm proud to own one. I love it for what it does. You can bet that I will monitor SE's progress and their aftermarket support on their new lineup. But the next time I shop for a new handset, my hard earned money will go to a different manufacturer, but I'm not totally writing SE off. Unless SE does something so outrageously unexpected (like a froyo/gingerbread upgrade with all bugs fixed).
serious stop whining about se..
they brought u a very nice hardware piece, ok the support for the software sucks but still everything works.... just wait untill our devs gets to better stuff...
what did you think se would give u lifetime support or so? they need to think about their payments also.... if they stick with old stuff that has been sold they will lose money on it... simple aye?
well they sold 9 million units of the xperia series including x10 mini/pro and the x8
so what is your point? that they had enough money to maintain all their servers, employees, buildings, cars etc. for a month? LOL
Don't believe in loyalty to manufacturers, or network provider. They make their money, I make mine, I wanted an X10 due to its potential, which is finally being realised. I used to swear by Nokia, cos their quality was second to none, but that's not the case any more.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
SE forget about a phone and hope on to the next project as soon as they release the phone. I am moving over to HTC for my next phone. At least HTC phones have more dev potential.
When the update comes out will we receive s-voice, s note, s memo, video editor, etc?
Just curious.

Likely not S-voice, as they are likely going to try to make that an SIII selling point. The international version of the note already has ICS, so, All of the apps that came in the ICS update will likely be the same for the i717.

AT&T today announced the availability of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) for HTC Vivid™ customers. After installing the software update, customers can now enjoy the optimized audio experience of Beats by Dr. Dre Audio™ and new and improved HTC Sense™ experience. Information about these features and more can be found at http://www.att.com/vividupdate. HTC Vivid™ will be the first U.S. smartphone to receive Ice Cream Sandwich as an update and the first to be issued by a wireless carrier. It will be followed by several other AT&T devices in the coming months:
LG Nitro
Motorola ATRIX 2
Motorola ATRIX 4G
Pantech Burst
Pantech Element
Samsung Captivate Glide
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
4. A AT&T Galaxy Note was seen on the CTIA trade show floor running a build of ICS.
5. The leaks suggest its near final.
So it's coming soon...and while were only committed to a vague "Q2" release....that doesn't include carrier approval. Without some additional information, we can't know if it's being tested already by ATT or if the update is still in Samsung's Lab. Nor can we tell how long it takes to go from final, then through the labs, then to us, but some higher ups have suggested 2-4 weeks. If we put all of this together, it points to a end of q2, extremely early in q3 release.

I you look at the build number in the video you can see thats the first ICS leak that was made available for the I717 and it means nothing. The build had been leaked for a couple weeks before this video was even posted. Also if you notice the Note in the video has nothing on it keeping it secure so people cannot steal it which tell me its somebodys device and not an AT&T display. Also AT&T has never said when the update will come. There were rumors it was coming two weeks after The I717 was released and after that didn't come true then the rumor was it would be released by the end of Q1 and when that also failed to be true the rumor switched to early Q2 now the rumor is by the end of Q2 and if that also fails to be true there will be more rumors about Q3. AT&T use to post estimates for updates on windows mobile phones but it was hell waitin cause the dates would always change for every device. I remember having the Samsung Epix and them pushing the dates back three months on two seperate occasions which made everyone have to wait 6 months before it was finally released. I do think it will be released soon but its really just a rumor and knowin how AT&T used to put update dates on their site I am not gonna trust any date or month posted on another site. If they wanted us to know they would post it on ATT.COM and not pass the info for someone else to post. They will release it when they are ready to and if they wanna let us in on the date believe me they will post it on their site first. There are way to many rumors about cell phones that we all know in the end turn out to be false from "confirmed" pics of the next iphone to "confirmed" dates of the cell phone you cannot wait to get your hands on. Take the HTC Vivid which was "confirmed" to be the HTC Holiday and all the rumors that surrounded it like two rear cams, 1.8GHz, rumored release dates that spanned at least 8 month. Come on guys were better than this. Can't you just wait? You see rumors everyday and you should know better than to believe everything you read
They would have to re-code the video editor to work with our chips.

Because Atom is less efficient with respect ARM. In particular the model of Atom processor Z2560 mounted in geekphones is made with 32 nm production process and it has a TDP of 3W while Qualcomm-Snapdragon-600 is made with 28 nm production process and it has lower TDP 2.5W.

so that snapgragon consumes 20% less power? correct?
probably the *best* device would be the Flame reference phone.
will be sold shortly and is aimed at developers, or at least so Mozilla claims.
costs 170USD including WW free shipping.
as long as there is no clarification on how future updates will be supported there is no real best phone anyways, since it is the same as with Android - if the hardware supplier does not offer an upgrade, you are stuck with whatever version you have.

I think so
Best device should be Flame reference phone
Look at
developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/Flame
developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/Phone_specs
A modern dual core with frequent OS updates
But a good dev phone could be our future Xiaomi Mi2S (look at xiaomi_mi_2s-5397 in gsmarena 16GB model) with Firefox OS 1.3 optimized.
And, of course, frequent updates to latest stable version of Firefox OS
Coming soon, stay tuned

Yesterday I read a new on news portal that Mozilla joined hands with Intex and Spice to offer their own smartphone. Now you were thinking of the price..Interestingly, they have mentioned that they will launch that smartphone with an ultra low price of just Rs 1500. Isn't it amazing.
But they have taken 1 year time to made it available in public. So it will be really interesting to view what they are planning to give in such a negotiable cost and what quality will be available.
Hi guys,
What do you think about this phone?
I already own a OPX, but I need another new phone for my wife. Instead of buying again the same phone, I'm thinking to vary a bit and try also something else.
From the specs point of view, the P8 seems to be slightly better; the nice thing it's that I found it at the same price I bought the OPX, considering also its shipping cost (P8 is free shipping on that store).
What I'm not sure about, it's the custom development scene. The phone has been out for months, but AFAIK there's no CM available, while root is.
Also, I don't think I'm going to appreciate the heavy lifting done by Huawei to the system UI.
What do you think?
Thanks for any insight/thoughts.
I also liked the P8 and used to own the P6, development is very poor and updates are also horribly slow with Huawei
would avoid
You can forget about third party development unless they start releasing sources. Huawei have to be one of the worst along with Samsung as both use their own SoCs.
Agreed. The long standing problem of Huawei is their lack of support for their released products and late release(if they ever release!) their sources. This is a major advantage in owning phones of oneplus type brands.
Thanks everyone for the valuable comments.
don't buy huawei phone if you are a geek
points to highlight:
- Huawei Phones don't get S/W updates from Android Version to the next, you are stuck with what you get with the phone
- Huawei Phones usually don't get S/W updates at all, unless major issues happen, security issues are not mandatory fixed
- Huawei Phones don't get sold to people who has money to donate to developers, hence developers are less interested in developing for it
- Huawei Phones has Huawei' CPU and GPU, this makes the developer less than enthusiastic to develop for H/W used only by one manufacturer who dont sell tens of millions of units of the same device, and depends heavily on the volume of KINDS of devices to compensate the lack of volume sales per model.
End to end, you are better going with OPX than Huawei Phones all together

What do you guys think will happen to XTE as a result of this news? Multiple articles have the same info so I don't think it's fake. Could this mean we will lose a major competitor in the US market?
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...ling-to-chinese-phone-maker-zte-idUSKBN1HN1P1
It doesn't seem fake sadly. Androidpolice said the same : https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/04/16/new-us-ban-zte-means-might-not-axon-8/
I was just about to post a thread on this as well, but you were faster
Anyway, if this will really be for next 7 years, then there won't be an axon successor or at least not a good one, since mediatek is still lacking behind. Although they are getting better at every year on making processors. Its still sad news tho
Sent from my ZTE A2017G running V1.2.0B08 using XDA Labs
Oh no, that's not good. And here I was thinking of getting an Axon 9. Guess I'll continue to play the waiting game to she what ZTE says about this.
https://www.androidcentral.com/zte-banned-using-us-based-hardware-or-software-its-products
This means no more Axon successor as expected with Snapdragon. It also means a crippled Android with no license to Google services. It effectively means no Axon 9 and the end of ZTE's business in its current form.
For current devices they can't release any updates that include license to Google's apps and services. Won't see official Oreo now unless they remove all the Google licensing.
Sent from my ZTE Axon 7 using XDA Labs
Well that's ****ty. I can't say I feel sorry for a company that agrees to legal terms and doesn't abide by them.
Very disappointed with this.
If it does kill Oreo for A7 I will look at unlocking and rooting mine, make changes and un-root.
Someone at ZTE should "leak" the update and sources before **** fully hits the fan.....
This is a showstopper.
Perhaps we will find very cheap 2nd hand ZTEs in a near future...
Regards
ZTE does not only disappoint itself, but also their customers. Great job, guess I can avoid this company now.
As someone mentioned above, I sure as hell hope someone leaks the update because we have waited a long time for this and it was almost complete in the third round of testing. All of the effort put into developing the update would be wasted if they decide not to release it, not to mention all the customers it would disappoint.
I have owned Android devices since 2012 and the Axon 7 has been the biggest let down for me, unfortunately. I think from now onwards I will only consider Chinese manufacturers with a better reputation like Xiaomi. Maybe I will look at getting the Mi Note 3 since it has such an excellent camera. It would be nice if more manufacturers adopted 120Hz displays like the Razer Phone and iPad Pro.
Calm down...
ZTE is still allowed to sell their products in the USA. And We, europeans exists. USA are not the only market in the world. If ZTE can't use Qualcomm anymore, this is a big problem for Qualcomm and not such a big one for ZTE.
They still can use other processors from other manufacturers.
And I really trust we all gonna have Oreo.
Envoyé de mon ZTE A2017G en utilisant Tapatalk
The current situation with ZTE company is very serious.
All ZTE phone users become collateral damage.
It leaves ZTE’s use of Android in a potential quandary.
The software is released under the open source license,
which means that ZTE can presumably continue to install it on its smartphones and tablets.
However, that doesn’t include Google’s specific apps for Gmail, the Google Play store, Google Maps, and other software.
Use of those is governed by the Mobile Application Distribution Agreement, or MAPA, a contract signed between Google and device OEMs.
Without that agreement – which, it would appear at first glance,
Google would no longer be able to extend to ZTE
under the terms of these sanctions – ZTE’s phones
could not be considered Android certified.

P.S.
We do not want to stay forever blocked on Android 7
Would this affect lineage os 15.1?
I love my Axon 7, but this could mean I have to jump ship.
This is the result of an American aggressive imperialist policy, innocent victims. It will not be long.
Reuters is reporting at least one analyst that says this may be resolved in 3-5 months:
"But Jefferies also said it expected ZTE would be able to settle with U.S. authorities in three to five months."
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...nies-from-selling-to-chinas-zte-idUSKBN1HN1P1
The bottom line is that ZTE has always been cautious to a fault about their US flagships after the Axon 7, probably because the US market takes so many resources and is so hard to compete in. The Axon 7 was an incredible value but failed to become a bona fide hit, and they seem skittish about their commitment to the US even in the best of times. So my guess? An effective 3-5 month ban is better but still may spook them enough to derail Oreo and the Axon 9. It's a shame...
Time to jump to the one plus company ?

ZTE want to take the worldwide of mobile, but by the lack of Qualcomm chipset, Gapps, this ambition may be end now.
They may no longer invest in developing anything suitable for global user, or at least Qualcomm compatible rom.
