Battery Charging Problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been getting error message of charging paused because temperature too high or too low using the travel charger that came with my SGS2. The phone has been heating up of late for no reason even though I've been on the same sensation Rom 3 for past 1 month. Using Speedmod or Siyah as kernel. No problem until yesterday. Temp indicated as 67 degree Celsius on battery monitor widget. I have uninstalled the programs installed recently but still the same problem.
Would really appreciate some advice. Thanks.

I had the same issue a few months ago but desappeared as magicaly as it appeared, just a few days after so i really don't know how you could go throw this :/
Perhaps you could try to make a nandroid backup, wipe everything and restore your backup, just in case...

Yes, thanks for your sound advice. Was just thinking of doing that. Btw are you also on Sensation ROM 3?

Just try doing a hard reset by removing the battery. There should not be any specific reason for battery temp to shoot.

Battery is messed up- Help please.

Right i seriously need help now guys.
My battery is completely and utterly- f*cked.
It says it is charging but it doesnt charge- the number changes but it goes for 80% then drop to 70% etc so i can never get a full charge.
I thought i fixed it last night when i drained it and recharged it back to as high as i could get it (94%), unlocked it this morning and it went from 70% when i locked it last night to 50%- and thats not the worst part- i sent 3 texts and it went to 15% battery, yes, 15%.
I am appaled at it and its well and truly put me off buying another Android phone or Samsung phone.
I need help now, if you guys cant fix it for me, my warranty is over from Carphone Warehouse and i cant be arsed with it.
I cant afford to simply go and buy a new phone so please dont say that kind of dumb suggestion.
Thank you.
Also i want to know if the problem is my phone, the battery itself or the charger/usb cable.

Well, alittle phone info might help.
What phone is it?
How old is it?
If you do have warranty, I would suggest using it.
If you're rooted, try calibrating the battery, Either wipe the battery stats manually in CWM or just use this handy app from the market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&feature=search_result
be sure to follow instructions precisely.
Check to make sure that all your apps that have updates where it can notify you are set to update in intervals of.every 1-2 hours. If you have several games on the phone that have a simulation theme to it like paradise island there are constant clocks that will run in the background regardless if you use a task killer. That I'm only like 90% sure but of. If you think about It things kinda evolve in the game each little item takes a form of clock in the code..which drains battery. The more.games you have the more constant clocks that will run. If you have several social networking apps I.e Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Google+ etc or any other app that can post to one another social i.e Twitter will also post one Facebook at the same time. One post Will run both apps if one is always set to update like every 30 minutes both with run in the background. If any app that you log in with logs in with a.Facebook account then once you open that up and your signed in then the internet app will be active.because.its accessing.the internet to log in. So in the end check to see what the intervals are when apps refresh for notifications. Try setting your peek times and off peek times for updates, and uninstall Any apps that you haven't gone to for over a 4 days. The chances.are you rarely use them. Hopefully this helps. One last thing is that some batteries if it only takes 4 hrs to fully charge the battery stops charging and uses its own power regardless if its plugged in. Ie you plug the phone in when you go to bed at 10pm the phone takes 4hra so at 2am the battery no longer runs off the charger it runs from the battery itself. Then when you wake up it may aleady be at 80%.
I'd any of this helps let me know. Gold luck.

So what your saying is when everyone that unplugs their phones in the morning and it says 100%, it actually means 80% or something other than what it reads? May I have some of what your having? That's crazy talk right there.

I never said everyone i said some.batteries and there's not many. If the meter says 100% then its at 100%. But my brother im not sure what phone he has but.when he unplugged his phone its at 94% and that when I said the battery will stop charging after its fully charges is what a Verizon store told him.

Does clockworkmod v4 automatically get uninstalled when you flash a new rom as i flashed my device back to stock 2.2 so is CWM gone now?

You need to redownload the Rom manager and do a new flash recovery. Other than that i think your battery might be just old. Batteries do have a limit to to how many times they can be recharged. That's why on new battery packages they say 1000 charges or something like that meaning after 1000 charges the battery will begin to increasingly die quicker. Sorry for the wording I'm not sure how to to word that. Youll probably be better off buying a new battery.

I cant do a new flash recovery as my phone isnt on the Clockworkmod Rom Manager list- i had to install it via ODIN, its alot of hassle.
Ive had this phone barely 6 months- it got replaced last time it got repaired, i find it hard to believe the battery is gone already :S

if you had your phone replaced you may have received a refurbished phone. Most businesses do that if your not there to pick a new one up.
I can try as a favor. Exactly what brand of phone do you have and version. I.E HTC Hero. if its a device that is on multiple carriers which carrier. I might have a battery laying around. If i have one they are in good shape I keep tons from friends who give me there old phones I use the phones for robotics but not the batteries So if you let me know what you have and if i have it i can mail the battery to you for free. I know how it feels when someone is in this case im more then will to help. its up to you.

Ooo. Galaxy I haven't gotten one of those. But if you look on the battery its should have information like 2600mAh Li-Polymer Rechargeable Battery. 3.7V 9.6Wh.
And on the bitten it will say "for use with Sprint smart devise EVO 4g by HTC Sony cells." That's for my phone yours will be different but similar. With that info i can try and find a battery that is compatible. If i don't I have a friend where i live that is the co owner soft this battery surplus store. They have every kind if battery imaginable. I can get one there and send it to you. Its not a problem because phones are a requirment and your in a sitiuation that I have no problem helping out with. Let me know what the battery info is and ill see what i can do

Battery drain problem..I think?

And im not sure what to do. I need some advice because I just cant find the issue! This morning was the final straw, my phone was at 100% charged and all i did was take about a 3 hour nap woke up to an over heated phone and the battery at 10%. WTH?? I use cpu spy and juice defender and nothing. I barely have any apps other than a wellsfargo one and 3g watchdog. Im running [ROM]<=TASK650's ICS'd OUT! V5 right now and i just switched over from cm7 because i thought maybe that would've been the problem? I dont know if its a deep sleep issue because ill look over at it sometimes and the screen just turns on out of nowhere and ill have to press the sleep button for it to turn back off. It also like to randomly turn off as it please. AHH THE FRUSTRATION .
Anyway enough rant can someone help? Or at least give some advice on what I should try or do? Thanks.
Your screenshots are inconsistent with your stated behavior... Loss of 20-30%/hour and an overheated phone says the thing is stuck at 1200 MHz and full load - but your CPUSpy graph shows only 9% at 1200, and a total of maybe 40-50 minutes since reset.
Also the battery graph in your first shot has a major discontinuity... It drops from 100% to 10% instantly. I've seen glitches of 20-30% jumps at a time after a fuel gauge reset, but never anything like that.
So then what your saying is I should kill it with fire and then return it and grab another one? lol I dont know anyone else with this type of situation. Im not just one to go and ask a question because im too lazy to search. I swear i looked and googled EVERYWHERE for some type of solution but i just haven't found someone with this type of problem.
as Entropy mentioned, that jump in the first screenshot makes no sense. You should probably recalibrate the fuel gauge.
Looking at the 2nd screenshot, a lack of deep sleep seems to be the culprit. You'll need to track down what's keeping your phone awake. I've read something about exporting the wakelock log but perhaps there's already an app for that...
Also, clicking on the graph (in the first SS) will show you a more detailed burn down which might help isolate the issue.
Lastly, did you change kernels as well?
Im sorry im fairly new at this. It just has the kernel that the rom came with. I recalibrated the fuel gauge like you said and retook some screen shots that ill just leave here. It keeps over heating and Shutting off on me every half hour or so. On top of that The battery just drains in a mater of 3 to 4 hours. I think the problem is just the phone itself. Im going to try and put the original stock rom on it later this week when i have time (Finals are driving me crazy) and then Im going to try and send it back and get another one. I might need a usb jig thingy tho. Its very frustrating this phone isn't even a month old and like i said before i googled for a full hour and a half and I just couldnt find a solution to this.
mmmk this just happened.
That certainly doesn't look normal. When it takes those sharp dives is the phone rebooting? Also when you flashed your new ROM did you wipe all data in cwm first?

I had a similar problem (phone got extremely hot) when i first flashed to UnNamed but after re-calibrating the fuel gauge a few times everything was all good.

Suggest running better battery stats from a full charge and when you get that instant drop go into bbs look at partial wake locks.
Also have you done any
oc/uc ?
Running ICScrewD ROM

Yes it shuts off every half hour or so and when i realize it and turn it back on the battery is drained significantly and yes i wiped all the data in cwm.

Ok Ill definitely give that a try the moment I have a chance and report back here the results. I haven't done any oc/uc either. Thank you guys for taking the time to help me figure this out.
I would try a CWM Backup. Then Factory Reset, Cache Wipe. Then install a fresh copy of Task v6. If that doesn't fix it, restore back to your backup you did.
I was having fun with undervolting myself (would crash my phone). Every battery pull I did, I lost 20-50% battery life. JUST turning the phone back on! Though in my case the phone would stick at this percentage for a long time, then when it caught up, eventually draining. I would assume the battery was not calibrated, but people keep telling me "this battery does not need calibration" (Whatever).
It seemed to fix itself for me though, after letting it drain down a bit more. I let it fully charge this time with the official wall charger. This was with Task & Siyah. Has not happened since.
I hope your battery works itself out!

kk so I'd guess your battery really isn't that low, it's just reading low after those reboots. For whatever reason sometimes the phone will show a significant loss after a reboot, but really didn't lose that much. However something still isn't rite obviously. I'd suggest redownloading your ROM and clearing/wiping everything in CWM. And do a fresh install. Someone might be better able to help, but if I was getting random power downs that's probably what I'd try. (I might be wrong, but I don't see how wakelocks would be causing it to power down)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the input everyone. I just got back from class now and my phones dead no surprise there but Im gonna let it charge back up and ill repost some screen shots of cpu spy and betterbatterystats since i just got that running on the phone. Afterwards Im going to try to just wipe everything on cwm reinstall a rom and see what happens from there. I bought a usb jig that should be coming in by the end of the week just in case all else fails and i'll just send it to att and have them ship me a new one. Thanks for all the feedback you guys are awesome!
OH I forgot to mention I dont think the phone actually shuts off because I was talking on it for a bit but i was talking through my bluetooth headset. I went to check if i had a text message and the screen wouldn't power on but I was still able to talk on the phone WTF? Makes no sense to me.
Really starting to wonder if your CPU has voltages it can't handle...

[Troubleshoot]My Galaxy S2 is draining battery very fast!

Hello XDA,i bought my Samsung Galaxy S2,two months back, around end of november.Since then,i had a 1650 mAh battery and the XXLSJ JB leak.I thought it was normal to do that for a leaked firmware,so i switched to 4.0.4 (stock firmware, from england aka XEU).That didn't solve the problem either.I struggled for about 2 months, installing custom ROM's,Kernel's,verifying wakelocks on BBS,rooting,SetCPU,everything that i found out on google. My friends said it was the battery's fault.3 Days ago,i bought the 2000 mAh battery kit (wich comes with the 2000 mAh battery, and the expanded case).I've upgraded to 4.1.2 since it was released 7 days ago for Nordic Countries (NEE) and it still didn't fix it.A week ago,i've tried a market app called "Battery Calibration".It somewhat worked. Now,i'm on the 3rd reformat of the battery and it's still draining as before. What is happenning?May it be a hardware problem? It also gets hot on top, near the camera...
Maybe you have too many services running, maybe the reception in your area is poor, maybe you have wifi-bluetooth-gps constantly running, maybe your brighness is set the max and you play all day, maybe it's a hardware fault....
Post your battery screenshots will help alot. Post both screens plus display running time. BBS info will also help.

First of all.Everything i do,it's draining battery,wi-fi is always on when i'm at home.I chat very often when i'm at home on WhatsApp.Bluetooth and GPS is always off.Brightness is always set on Automatic and i don't play that often.I categorize my phone at about medium usage.
About BBS screenshots and Battery ones, look.
EDIT:
Right now,i'm using NeatROM Lite 4.3 with PhilZ Kernel.

Make it outta the box and claim warranty, go with the excuse that gets hot near the camera (which is scary) and tell them that you need a device that can hold at least 12 hours.

It was on 2.3.5 when i bought it..I don't know if it had the same problem or not..My girlfriend has a Samsung SII and she gets a 1d life outta 1650 mAh battery.I don't get it why i get less since she has no Auto-Brightness and she constantly talks with me on Whatsapp and listens to music sometimes. She also plays games, and she still gets atleast 1d battery life.
I've heard this happening to phones after water damage
If both stock and extended batteries don't do it, plus the warm spot near the camera - I suspect it to be hardware fault.
Edit: try to sell it for parts (or...) and get another phone. This probably will require to chang the main PCB.

Well, I have been thinking of buying a new battery (either the stock 1650mAh or the 2000mAh) but when I was running the stock samsung 4.0.4 firmware the most battery draining process was ''google services'' or something like that so I thought there was a problem with the software and so I didn't buy a new battery. I checked was anyone else having the same problem and it seemed to be a common bug. Some people where experiencing it on 2.3 and some on 4.0 but i didn't found an answer. When I heard that the 4.1 update was out I wished that it would fix the battery draining and kinda it did because no more the ''google services'' was draining all the battery but now it's the screen (which I know it should be) but even know that the software seems to be all good, battery still drains just as fast so just buying a new battery might fix my problem... and it hopefully does.

Battery life comes with good settings.
I got lucky there, 5.4 hours is a good number. Today I'm at 33% looking at 3.5 hours screen time. If I keep my screen on from now on i'll get to 4.4 hrs for sure. Now...good screen time right? Well...I AM gonna have to CHARGE it TODAY!
The thing is to catch the drainer "in the act" with betterbatterystats and once you've done that, you're off the hook.
This is the "where's the charger era", we all need to embrace that, so when we suddenly get 2 days outta 'em we can brag & giggle.
The day will come...where we will be able to charge our devices in 15 minutes and battery will last a week.....

heavy usage
as i see it, you are a heavy user.
also the 4.1.2 official roms have a media scanner issue. you can search xda for the fix, but it willl just shorten the wakeup time.
best to avoid heat from the battery/phone. if it's heating up, it's probably working hard.
also check your network signal, sometimes when the signal is weak, the phone does extra work to search for a signal.
follow the previous post.. try to install a new fresh rom. make sure to wipe everything.
turn off all animations for 4.1.2
check your widgets so that they won't refresh. set it to manual refresh.
good luck!

[Q] New Battery, Factory Reset - still battery drain

I have got a strange problem.
My Samsung S5830i Galaxy Ace has a battery drain of 50% per night without usage, WLAN off.
The device is rooted, and I've had an battery issue when using Link2sd with a ext2 partition (bcm.sdhc.3 kept the phone awake all time). I fixed it using ext3. This was six month ago, no problems after that.
Since last week, I got this huge battery drain. BetterBatteryStats tells me the phone is sleeping most of the time, no suspicious processes.
I tried with a battery from a friend, no result.
I factory-reset my phone, no result.
I used a ClockworkMod recovery from the time before link2sd, no result.
The battery is still draining like hell.
What else could I do instead of throwing the phone away? Please help!

It most probably will be your battery problem. How old is your battery? I know you said you tried your friend's battery, but try again with another battery for Ace. Also try using another rom. Do post the results. Hope I Helped

His Battery is not very old. And I think it would be strange it is really a battery problem, because it happens very sudden and the behaviour of the two batteries is the same.
The phone is 1,5 year old. I think about unrooting and try to make use of the guarantee or to get another rom and flash.
But if it would be a software problem, at least the recovery should overwritten the faulty settings, or not?

Once your battery gets as low as 15 to 20%, go to CWM> Advanced> Wipe Battery Stats and then charge for 3 hours without a break. See if there is any change. Follow this beautiful guide by @Venomous Viper 119 on improving the battery backup and performance of ace. Here is the link,

Well, thanks for the link. My newest information is: the battery is draining even when the phone is off. I think, either the NSA installed their new feature, or it is relly a hardware defect

Fast Batter Loss @ 30%

Hi All,
Firstly after posting I realised that the thread title is fast Batter loss.. My phone does not lose batter but battery.. Apologies for the error.
Had my Galaxy S9+ for around 10 months and all has bee fine. In the last week or 2 the battery has been dying very quickly at around 30% so maybe 30% to zero in around 5-10 mins especially if its in use. I went to the local Samsung store where they ran diagnostics and they concluded that my battery was still at 100% efficient. I thought this may have been due to the Pie upgrade, they seem to have maybe happened around the same time but cant be precise. I have since fully factory rest and re-installed everything and the issue remains.
So has anyone else experienced this? does that mean I'm left with trying to work out which app is playing up? or does anyone know if there's anything else I could look at to try and solve.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
You could use some battery apps like betterbatterystats to find out which app is draining.
Check to see if the Samsung Pay Framework is draining it. Happened to me and cleared up immediately after deleting Samsung Pay

Samsung said they had an issue with that and they 'supposedly' fixed it with an update to the app. Only time will tell... Lol

Solved the same problem by deleted Samsung Pay. And after uploaded in Pie this problem disappeared.

In the case of the SAT are correct in the diagnostic of the battery and the battery is good, then you can do a battery calibration, open dialer and put *#0228#, then Quick start, wait until screen power on again, then do a full charge.
cheers.-
