So I have seen quite a few threads about installing ICS but I have yet to see anyone install it over MIUI. Is there a suggested method for this?
I couldnt get it to install over MIUI, it kept throwing me an error, I restored to cm7 and it flashed fine
Thanks for the reply, I don't have a backup of cm7 as the wifi never worked for me on it. Is there really any reason to goto cm7 first?
To answer my own question I guess I could run a Titanium Backup restore of MIUI on CM7 then upgrade... So that should be one benefit

I installed cm9 over miui. Did wipe dalvic, wipe cache, wipe data/factory reset, installed from sdcard. Worked fine.
Note - I hadn't done a lot in miui, so I didn't mind wiping and reinstalling apps.
Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the reply not sure doing a wipe then fresh install really counts as installing over miui but good to know it worked out if it comes to that... I am still on the fence about installing alpha 0.5 as I am really happy with how I have miui setup at the moment...
I'm a huge MIUI fan and have been running it on my Mytouch 4G for a couple months now. I put it on my HP Touchpad and couldn't stand it after a couple days. It was just way too buggy. I installed ICS a few nights ago and it is running beyond what I expected! You could try both and back them up then switch back to the other if you don't like one.

What I meant was, I was running miui. It was my 1st android install.
When cm9 alpha0 came out, I installed it as I said by cwm wipe; then flashed cm9.
I like cm9 a lot better than miui. Feels more like a real tablet app. Please don't ask me to define that .

I've had CM7 a3.5 on for a few days and set up my android install pretty much exactly how I want it however I'm looking to try the Xron flavor of the rom. I know the install instructions say you need a full wipe, but I've seen a lot of reports saying that flashing over it works as well.
Anyone have any experience with it?
I installed it with just a wipe cache/dalvik cache. I did the wipes twice. It's been great so far.
Read the posts though , some have had troubles. Make sure you have a backup!
Sure you "can" just install over but the true question is "should" you. If you just install over a3.5 you wouldn't see the same benefits as coming from a full wipe.
I am currently running the CM9 4/8/12 nightly. It was the first ROM that I have installed so far since getting my TP less than a week ago. I wanted to try the 4/12 nightly and just had a quick question before I do so.
I am using cell phone ROM flashing logic here, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Do I just need to download the latest CM9 nightly zip, put it on the root of my TP and just flash the zip through CWM? Of course I would clear cache and dalvik first. That's how I would do it with my phone but I just want to make sure that it's the same with the TP before I bork something.
Thanks!
I went from CM9 to AOKP. It was my first ROM switch. All I did was clear cache/dalvik and did a factory reset. I wanted to do a factory reset just to be safe. I dont know how it acts yet when you just clear cache. But the way I did it worked just fine.

You are right... just download the latest nightly zip to your internal sdcard and flash away... wiping Cache and Dalvik in the process... nothing really different here as compared to the methods you used on your phones.
Thanks fellas!
Okay, I have gotten so blasted close with getting a custom rom on this phone. I can get them installed now and they are wonderful I tried gummy and aokp but for the life of me I can not get data to work I can not make or recieve phone calls. I am in roaming all the time too. I have gone through all settings and scoured the forum and I can not find an answer anywhere. Am I missing something totally obvious here? Does anyone maybe have any suggestion? Thank you guys for your help. It's just frustrating that I am so close.

What is the status of your Photon currently? Assuming it is rooted and unlocked, running what rom? Please provide info on what rom you are on now, which one you flashed from, and what process you used to get where you are. The more info provided the easier it will be to help.
Well lets see, currently I am back on stock, but here is what I did. I rooted, unlocked, installed CWM 5.0.2.7 I also flashed jokers recoveryv3 ( I follow QB's videos) So then I installed the gummy rom using this process. Format system, format data, format cache, wipe cache then dalvik cache. flash rom, flash rom again ( now I did not reboot into recovery after I flashed the rom the first time) I just went straight to install rom again. flash gapps, fix permissions. Reboot up and good loving it all. Waited 15 min then rebooted again. That's it. So I am at a loss. Thanks for help if you need any other info please let me know.
Oh I am on 2.3.4 with 198_7 also
In your system settings did you have "home only" or "automatic" selected for your roaming settings? For a lot of these roms, "automatic" is forced roam. And then if you didn't have roaming data enabled, that would explain why you were constantly roaming with no data.

Thanks so much .
I did have automatic checked but I did have roaming data enabled also. I flipped it around too with home only. I am truly beginning to think my phone is just plain "off " who knows. It's a shame though, I mean not that stock is bad on this phone but the custom roms are so much better imo. This is the first phone I have ever had a problem with. I have been flashing phones for years. Think I started with a HTC Mogul. That was a solid phone LOL
Does CM7 work for you? If it does then I reckon flashing that and setting it up, then instead of doing a full wipe keep your data and flash CM9 based rom over it, fix permissions and take it from there.
I have not tried CM7 but I can, sure can't hurt to try at this point. Thanks, I will give that a try tomorrow.
Have you tried *#*#4636#*#*? Sometimes flashing changes the radio in that menu. Be careful though, changing something can really Bork your phone. It should be on cdma prl I think

Deb, my photon has never been kind to me with the 'flash twice' method. It always results in no data. Try cm9 again, but this time wipe cache, system, data, and dalvik, install version 3.1 of cm9, boot into it, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalv, then install the latest cm9 version. Always works for me. Good luck

Morning all, your all are great. Okay so I am ready to start again. I'm at stock right now so I need to get her all set up again. (Yes my phone is a she) Acvice, I am going to try your method first will let you know in a bit.
Looks like joker's site may be down so I need to try and find the 2 cm9 roms
I have this rom saved already on my computer
beta-0.6.9.1-cm-9.0.0-RC0-sunfire-UNOFFICIAL-signed.zip
Wonder if I should try that one or just wait
After I install CWM 5.2.0.7 do I also need to flash joker's v3 recovery?

Glad someone provided you with that 3.1 link. Looking forward to see if it works out for ya.
By the way, you will know it worked if when you boot up in 3.1 you have working data. Flashing the newer version after that will essentially just update everything.
Deb, I take it the flash of 0.3.1 didn't work? Did you have data and then lose it when you flashed 0.6.9.3? What were your exact steps. I just rooted/unlocked and flashed my f-in-law's new photon and it worked just fine. Lemme know what you did and maybe I can help more

Thanks bullfrog that's nice of you but honestly I'm good now As you know.
I didn't even try to install 0.3.1. I kept thinking about it, seeing I had no luck with 2 others previously so I decided to go the MIUI route and I'm a happy camper with that one. I am a flashaholic for sure, as we all are here. I am thinking though, I am gonna just be happy with where I am at for now. Of course I will most likely decide to give another rom a try at some point.
Of course I am already eyeing a few Samsung Epic touch's on ebay. I hear that one can be a brick just waiting to happen....weeeee I am having way too much fun
I'm glad you made it to MIUI. if you ever want to try cm9 or and of the similar ones (aokp, gummy, paranoid) I would suggest flashing that 0.3.1 first, then updating to the latest cm9, then flashing the variant

Good day. I really like my Note. I don't crave speed but it was definitely a bit laggy sometimes and I wanted more smoothness. Since my transformer really didn't like JB, and is working like a charm with the Energy ICS ROM and overclocked to 1.5Ghz.
With this in mind, I was looking for a smooth, stable ICS ROM for my I717 Note. After much searching, I settled on Padawan...and so far, it's working like a champ...smooth, much faster than the stock ICS and compatible with all of my apps.
I rooted with Odin, backed up with Titanium, wiped everything and loaded Padawan from my sd card using CWM...and nothing happened...or rather, nothing happened after the samsung splash screen.
I waited the requested 10 minutes, (though I now suspect that's supposed to be after a good boot), and still nothing. I did this a few times, wiping everything and the 4th time was the charm.
The only thing I did differently was to do the factory reset last. Maybe that had something to do with it or it was just a fluke...dunno. Regardless, Padawan with the Note 2 look is now working like a charm on my Note, so far without any problems and all of the apps that I loaded are also working.
So any guesses why it took 4 tries to get Padawan to load properly? Had this happened to anyone else?

I may give that a try...though the fact that the flash took 4 tries has me a bit leery. I'll leave it alone for a bit until frustration and/or boredom sucks me into flashing again.

I have flashed that rom many times with no issues. This is how I do it.
reboot to latest touch recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe system, wipe dalvik cache than flash Rom.
after it reboots, I let set for 10 minutes than reboot to recover again and wipe dalvik cache and fix permissions. after that reboot and set up your phone. I have never had an issue flashing this way.
Right now I'm trying the N7005 rom. This thing is super smooth and snappy.
That's pretty much what I was doing. On my Milestone and Transformer, I never had any issues loading a new ROM by wiping then loading in CWM. I never worried about it bricking but I was a bit worried until it finally took. Now, it's running like a champ.
I'll do a nandroid backup of this and probably try something else in a while...after I smack this one around for a while.

Hi. I'm having the same problem with my i717. When you say you "did this a few times", do you mean you just wiped the user data, wiped the cache, wiped the dalvik cache, fixed permissions & then rebooted the system 4 times or did you flash the Padawan rom 4 times too? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.
Wipe everything, install, wipe everything again. Usually works for me

Yes...I wiped everything I could find. I believe the instruction to 'wait 10 minutes' is after it boots. It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to get past the boot splash, so if it doesn't work after 5 minutes, go through the entire wipe process again. I even went into 'mounts and storage' and formatted 'data', 'system' and 'cache'.
I don't know if this made any difference or not, but on the attempt that finally worked, I did the 'wipe data/factory reset' last.
Format of the system is critical on this device, even if the rom does it anyway.
Get it clean ...
And of course a good download is important as well....g

Ok, I got a question what to do now.
The following happened.
I updated the nightly CM10.1 from the settings menu. Normally this works fine. I forgot to make a backup (DUMB). When CM10.1 restarted it never came further than the boot screen (Samsung logo). After waiting for more than 30 minutes I decided to restart the device (get rid of battery). Now CM10.1 won't start again.
Luckily I had a backup, but it was from CM9 (at least I can call). I already tried to install CM10.1 again, but whit no result (bootlooping again).
How to install CM10.1 again? From CM9. What did I forget?
Hope someone can help.
Cm10.1 is no good. Unreliable I think. Try aokp milestone 2 for a solid Rom. If you really want it
Mounts and storage
Format
Data
system
Cache
Wipe dalv cache in advanced
Flash Rom
flash gapps
wipe cache
wipe dalv
Reboot
Enjoy.
or read op first post on first page
I've only just installed CM10.1 on my S2 today. I encountered the same problem with cm-10.1-20130722-NIGHTLY-i9100
However, 0723 worked fine for me. Give that (the latest at time of writing) a go perhaps?

Easy way to put it is cm 10.1 unstable aokp milestone 2 stable. Simple as that. Also more changeable things in aokp. Cm fanboys wont like what I put but they no its the truth  glad you sorted your problem
