[Q] Should I flash to a newer radio? If so which? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an unlocked Atrix a while back from amazon and had it shipped to me to latin america (Panama). It ended up being a German O2 version with Froyo and a N_01.95.00R baseband/radio. It's been running great with everything unlocked and TDS ROM, however I've always had that nagging feeling that I should flash to a newer radio firmware.
Would anyone advise against it? More than looking for how to flash a radio (I read about fruitcake), I'm more interested in finding out which radio is it safe flash or which would be the correct one for me to flash. I'm a bit lost on this, since there doesn't appear to be a lot of information on the subject compared to everything else.

Unless you're having problems with your current radio - I'd just leave it alone. If you dont know what you're doing, you'll only break something.

Anyone have the bell 6800 stock radio 1.37.30

Anyone have the bell 6800 stock radio 1.37.30? Before I flash my device, I want to know I can flash it back to stock if needed. Doesn't anyone have this radio version or can give me pointers on how I can extract it from my device?
Thanks
Anyone able to help me out?
Yes, it's available. I posted a link in the DCD3.0.1 thread. I'll link it here when I find it.
Update: A step by step I took to install DCD 3.0.0, including links.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that Rom update from bell does not update the radio. So even with it, it's still not possible to take the Bell 6800 back to Stock if you update with a newer radio revision.

Look at the filename on the link:
http://www.utstarcom.com/pcd/downlo...E_2.13.666.1_RS_1.37.30_BM_1.27_0604_SHIP.exe
For me, the original radio ROM was 1.37.30.
This suggests to me that it includes the radio. As far as I can tell, this is the stock radio and WM6 ROM that comes with the phone from Bell.

Help upgrading to G2 to 2.1

Hello all,
Apologies is this has come up in the forums before but I hve looked through and couldn't find an answer.
Basically I bought a used G2 from ebay that was locked (& branded) to T-Mobile. I had it rooted/unlocked and now am on a Vodafone 30 day contract. It is currently running android 1.5.
I have not been prompted by the OTA update. I am unsure whether I use Vodafone or T-Mobile software for the update, or whether there is maybe a generic HTC version available? I want to make sure that the phone is left open to work on Vodafone after the updgrade also.
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated,
Thank you very much in advance!!
Keith
If you're going to stick with the official releases just flash the WWE version (which you should be able to find a link on here somewhere). Bear in mind that this will permanently lock you into v2.1 official releases as there is no known method to gain root on 2.1 as of yet and custom rom's will be out of the question.
The Vodafone and T-Mobile versions of the software mainly contain advertisement rather than actual changes.
duno if it helps but i was gettin pissed waiting for the t-mobile ota update, so i created a gold card using the method in another section, downgraded to the generic rom then run both ota updates when my phone promted me (setting my date 1 year ahead) i did not like the 2.1 as it was running peep and teh rest that i never use, i just reflashed it with the generic 1.5 rom i used originaly, installed flashrec and a recovery image, and is now running, happly, vallian 12. i was originaly on the latest t-mobile firmware.
duno if that helps? or was it a cooked version of 2.1 it downloaded via the ota system?
i is still happly rooted.

[Q] Help for not working Android

Got an HD2 TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) branded with ROM 1.72.901.1 and Radio 2.07.51.22_2. TIM lock was removed by someone else and first I installed Artemis 4.5 but it was really sluggish so I downloaded stock 3.14 version from HTC and installed it which brought the system back to regular Win with logo on top (Artemis had it at the bottom). ROM was
_HTCHD2_RUU_Leo_S_HTC_ITA_3.14.408.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
What I noticed is that the radio is not what is on the above link but instead has remained the old one 2.07.51.22_2.
Shouldn't the ROM upgrade have changed the radio too with the new one (2.15.50.14 in this case)?
In either case Android on the SD card did not work and the phone gets stuck at the black screen with the really tiny lines of text. I tried a few of the major builds of Android with the same results.
Since Clearcad removes windows from memory the version of Windows should not matter and the only thing left is the radio but can it block the loading of Android or could it be the fact that it was a carrier (TIM) branded phone (can't really imagine that the carrier has had HTC make specific hardware mods to screw up changes to it)?
I have downloaded the 2.15.50.14 radio by itself but when I tried to install it the SSPL program tell me that it wants to replace the existing ROM 3.14 with this so I stopped. If I continue will the radio upgrade just replace the radio section or will it replace everything? Tried to look at other posts but everyone is different and couldn't find a situation similar to mine.
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanks
Paolo
Sounds like problem after problem mate!
For sure, you do need to upgrade the radio. 2.07.xxxxx is just too old. It needs to be at least 2.08.50 (not 51), but I would strongly recommend the one you talk about yourself (2.15.50).
Flashing just the radio will not erase anything on your phone. Only a ROM flash will do that.
i had the same problem running android on my hd2............then i update my radio version to 2.12 then it worked.........
Thanks
Thanks guys
I was afraid the radio might have been the culprit.
Given the info in my original post above can you tell me what I should do and which program I should use to flash the new radio trying to minimize the risk to brick the thing and should I re-install the ROM afterward ?
Why the ROM upgrade did not take care of the radio upgrade in the first place?

The ROM upgrade should have upgraded the radio at the same time. If it's not big deal to you, I'd flash the ROM again to see if it has any effect.
No changes
reinstalled official 3.14 but radio stays at 2.07.51.22_2
Still don't know what is the program to install new radio and if I risk bricking the phone doing it. It seems strange that it doesn't allow the upgrade from within the rom.
Now I need to look for rom 1.72.901.1 to go back to the origins.
Suggestions on best way to install new radio is appreciated.

What radio to choose ?

Hi,
I have a french orange branded Atrix running under ORFR 2.3.4 and will most likely flash RedPill as soon as it gets in V4. I haven't changed the Radio yet, so I'd like to know
1) what radio would fit the best ?
2) is it safe to flash it ?
3) Can Intl and ATT users flash the same radios ?
We're having more and more ROMs but there's not much information about the radios, and I have to say that I'm starting to get lost with all those hardbrick problems...
Thanks for your help
Envoyé de mon Motorola Atrix
First off I'd recommend alien or picrust
But really, I would suggest trying the bell radio here first, then the ATT radio if that does not work.
It is safe to flash the radios found here.

1) Try bell, then ATT (and speedtest). If that fails, use the telestra radio
2) Yes (if it is extracted from an update ie. only 10-30mb in size)
3) Yes
Cheers
Ok I'll try the Bell when I'll flash a new rom. Thanks for the information !

[Q] Is your radio updated after OTA 4.5.91 ?

Just want to know...
After you updated your device to OTA 4.5.91 (2.3.4) AT&T , is your radio updated too ?
Thanks.
UP ..........
radio
You get the .91 radio also. So yes, new radio. (even if nothing changes, I heard they give it a new number.)
I am running unlocked 4.5.91, flashed via the SBF, and my Baseband version is N_01.77.30P.
Does that sound right, or do I need to flash something newer (for kernel support, etc; my phone is functioning fine with good cell speeds (5.4mbps down, 1mbps up) and gps lock, and although wifi is slow to start it works)?
Thanks!
Yeah, thats the radio you need to be on, its the at&t GingerBread radio.
OP, you can get just the radio .img here if you want to flash it before doing the OTA udpate (assuming you haven't already done this):

"Very positive comments about this radio from everyone who's flashed. Looks like this is the best yet."

Thanks but already update with Fruit Cakes
