You won't lose anything. After reboot your phone will be exactly as it was before. 8107 takes about 10-12 minutes and is very simple process. Go for it!

I had a rooted photon and after numerous OTA updates to MR7 I decided to stock reset and tried flashing the CM5 release. I kept getting the snowy screen issue, so I wiped the phone with Android Recovery and managed to get to a working install. My problem is that the phone is on 45.2.5 and every time I manually push for an update, I am told the phone is up to date.
Are there any ways of manually applying the update, or flashing back to an older release and perhaps trying again? atm I have an unrooted 2.5 version.
EDIT: btw I am running Linux.
ota issues
I'm getting that same problem. I was rooted and unlocked then I re-locked my phone back to stock to get the ota but it keeps telling me I'm update. I'm trying to update to 4.5.7 but it want push the ota to my phone.
I have installed 9.4.2.11.1 manually from HoneyCome
I have no issue with freezes or lockups, but I realized It stopped giving me an OTA updates.
While some people are getting .14 update, I am still on 11.1 and even when I check for an update, Prime says there is no update for me.
Is it because I manually updated my prime? If so, how do I get OTA update back?
You are on a beta build of sorts so the actual firm ware updates don't recognize your Build # as one that needs to be updated.
What you need to do is manually up date to a current Build # and get back in the loop. I just did this myself, here are the steps. It's easy and only takes a little time.
Go to the Asus firmware download site.
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&s=16&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+Prime+TF201&os=&hashedid=FqCKMQDqgvSncfFM
Download the firmware update for version 13.
Then follow the instructions here to manually update (you probably already know this since you are on 11.1
http://service.asus.com/infopage.aspx?rid=18
You'll update and be on version 13 and your Prime will now "see" OTAs.
Check for firmware updates, it will say there is a new version and it will start to download 14.
ta-da!! You (and I) are back in the loop for OTAs

Ok I have the same problem but .13 update is not available on asus site and trying to manual update to .14 does not work any help ?
Does anyone know where is the downloaded update stored ?
Don't want to update right now but it is going to remind me in 3 hours, and is there a way to stop the update process or do a factory reset will it skip the update?

Just connect to the pc and update with Kies, or flash the new rom with Odin.
Just wanted to skip the update completely, so how to avoid update ?

If a box appears that an update is available just press no, look in settings, about the phone, software update and you can disable fota updates.
Did you try removing the battery in between the update ?
It stopped popping up after i installed a ROM. I refuse to install it since i did it before and my phone would not root until i got an exchange from sprint and didn't install it the second time.
This morning I got a notification saying there is a software update available for the EVO 3D. Went to download it and it came back saying there are no updates available. I checked the software number on my phone and it is listed as 2.17.651.5, the new one is 2.89.651.2. Is there any other way to get this update on my phone? It is stock. Thanks!
Did you go to System Updates > HTC software updates? 2.17 is GB and 2.89 is ICS, so since you are stock, you should be able to just take the ota.

Yes, I went into system updates > HTC software updates, then comes back saying no update available. I checked my software and it is still running 2.17 GB so I know it didn't update overnight or something. Just wasn't sure if there is another way to find the update, while still being stock.

It's been a while since I've been stock. If I remember right, the phone should notify you in the status bar of the update after restarting the phone. You can then select the notification and it should run the update.

Correct. And all this happened, minus the actual update....still stuck in 2.17 GB. If you have any other ideas, please let me know!

Keep trying. I was getting the same message this morning (that no update was available), but I just tried the manual update again, and now it tells me there is an update available. My phone is downloading the update. It is 305.76MB in size, so you need a fast connection like wifi to make it go faster.
BTW - the update tells me that I am getting HTC Sense 3.6 along with Android 4.0 so this should be interesting to see.
Good luck!
Jason
Ok, finally getting the update. These are the steps I took to get there:
1) Dial pad: ##72786#
2) Password: 132820
3) Menu > Reset
4) Phone reboots, keep clicking 'ok' while updating firmware, prl, profile, etc.
5) Try to do a software update.
6) If that doesn't work, go into hboot and do a factory reset.
7) Update Profile
8) Update Software
I am now downloading the new software. Thanks to those who gave input!
I'm trying to get some foreknowledge for when the day comes so I can avoid this. I'm currently using a Bell Motorola Atrix running 2.3.4 gingerbread. I absolutely do not want the latest 2.3.6 on this phone. My question is, when I perform a factory reset, how do I avoid it installing 2.3.6 automatically OTA? Remove the simcard maybe? I'm not sure. I'm currently using a carrier unlocked and rooted Atrix, but the bootloader is not unlocked and never will be.
Please no answers that involve unlocked bootloaders / flashing custom ROMs. I am rooted but I will never be unlocking the bootloader on this phone, nor flashing custom ROMs for my own reasons.
Afaik, phone will ask you for confirmation to download update. It will not start automatically. Especially not over network. It happened to me few months ago. Then I froze updater.
I think that everything shoul be defrost before factory reset.

If you didn't download, no. I never heard that any OS just automatically download update and install without permission.

Obviously you've never seen Windows 7.

that's not what I'm talking about though. The Atrix shipped with Froyo at launch. But I could have sworn that the last couple of times I factory reset it (after GB came out for it), it just automatically installed the latest Gingerbread version during the setup process. I don't actually remember it asking me to download and install the first 2.3 GB release, then the next 2.3.4 release, then the latest 2.3.6 release. (As if it were reset to just like when I bought it, with Froyo)
Right now the Atrix is at 2.3.6. I bought my 2nd Atrix carrier-unlocked from a 3rd party vendor and it already had 2.3.4 on it. I want to make sure that if I ever factory reset it that the setup process isn't going to take me straight to 2.3.6
