I imagine this has been posted, but I can't seem to find it when using search on the main forum.
I just received my GB View today and rooted it via Revolutionary. My question is, can I just go ahead and update to HC or will it break root?
Question 2 is: Can I OTA or do I need to install it through CWM if so?
Thank you in advance to anyone who replies.
Don't ever install an OTA on any rooted Android device. You will lose root or get stuck in a bootloop.
Use globatron's method.

Hey guys,
Sorry if this is a dumb question but Evo3D is my first android phone and I'm trying to learn...coming from the good old world of winmo lol
I was wondering, is there a way to have root access on the stock rom? I basically want to be able to make use of all the great themes and apps that require root access but I want to stick with the stock rom as the base. Is this possible? Thanks a lot!
Yes there is. Go to the Development section and there are many topics on how to root, depending on if you've accepted the latest OTA update or not. Most are step by step and some even with YouTube tutorials.
so do I have to install a homebrew recovery thing to be able to install the superuser file?
Depends. If you still have 1.3 or 1.4 hboot/bootloader because you haven't done the new OTA update then you can easily use the Revolutionary tool and then it will install Clockwork Recovery for you after root.
If you did do the update already, head to Development and check some of the instruction threads.
So I have a wifi flyer from bb.
I have not rooted, but I probably will in the future.
Should I root before upgrading to honeycomb or after?
Obviously rooting before will be done by globotron's method.
Is there even an established method for rooting if already upgraded to honeycomb?
no root before globatrons method but you would have to s off
there is no dirrect s off as of yet for honeycomb hboot so root would not be possible with OTA until s off is available or HTC DEV has it supproted with unlock
Gotcha I think...
So if I want to guarantee s-off and thus root, I should use globotron's method right?
If you want root and s off now, yes. Globatrons method is stock release with root an s off
If updating by Globatron's method, will future, periodic updates still be received from HTC? Is it possible for HTC to detect s-off/rooted devices and ignore or blacklist them?
I would not attempt an ota while s off. All updates would come from xda threads
A couple of questions Guys please,
I don't know what this update is and is it automatic install if I allow the download ?
I don't think I want the Honeycome 3.2 as I understand i can not downgrade, is that correct ?
As with first question will I get any chance to change my mind with the HC 3.2 upgrade.
Sorry this may sound dumb but I have a problem downloading anything that does not say what it is
maybe an easy answer for someone who has upgraded ?
Thanks
It is going to ask you before updating, so relax.
But if you update by mistake you can still downgrade, like i did(in fact it was globatron).
After download, it will ask you if you want to install, and you can choose no.
Don't know about the OTA. But upgrading using globatron's method is downgradable. I haven't tried downgrading myself (liking HC), but others on globatron's thread successfully downgraded.
Thanks Guys, Like I say it may not even be the 3.2 upgrade, Personally I would like to turn off any of the crap that is checking for updates but I can not find where
I need to investigate "globatron's method " I can not believe a rom upgrade is non reversible, if HTC so desired !
Hi guys,
Have searched the forums but still unable to get a definitive answer, I brought my prime a few months ago and rooted it but left it on stock ROM in anticipation of JB update. This weekend i received the JB Update, used Voodoo to hide my root and started the install which promptly failed(Android with open tummy and Red Triangle). Therefore i have but questions three:
1. I am guessing this failure was caused by having a rooted device, is there a different software like Voodoo that will allow update to be installed?
2. How do i Unroot my device to the point when i can install the Update?
3. Once the update is installed is it possible to re-root(alot of my apps require root to function)? I know certain updates in the past have stopped users from rooting, is this the case with the JB Update?
I once again bow to your superior knowledge guys and thanks in advance.

So this mornining I received the message to update my phone to KitKat, but when I installed it, nothing happened. Am I stupid for thinking it would update a stock root? I used the chainfire automatic root method. How do I obtain KitKat and root? Thank you in advance guys.
It's best to update via PC and Odin. I doubt they'll have that file ready for a bit though. You probably want to wait anyway since I don't believe there is a root method available yet since it just dropped.
