Hi guys,
I really need your experience help now. I can't decide which ROM to use for my Ace. I've been using 2.2.1 Froyo, and I decided to upgrade to 2.3.4 KPH. Then I realized that there is lockscreen lag and was really slow. One friend suggested me to use GingerReal 1.1.0 to solve the problem with lockscreen lag and speed, and I upgrade with this custom ROM, but it had a billion of custom stuffs in it, that I don't really understand and use (Tweaks, ext4, QQ launcher, etc.). So I reverted back to my stock Froyo, and started to read here. 3 days I've been reading, and finally decided to put the latest 2.3.3 KPO ROM (LUXKP1). Everything went smooth, but now I can see that my Ace is really slow, lockscreen lag takes ages to show. Otherwise it's really clean ROM, nothing unnecessary pre-installed and contains only the most important apps in it.
Now, I really want to fix that speed and lockscreen lag problem, and I'm thinking to upgrade to KPN. What's your advise to me? Is KPN fast and no lockscreen lag and also - SOD with stock ROM (i'm not planing to use custom ROM for now)?
Also which KPN to choose - 0OXXKP7 or XEUKP1? And at last but not at least what apps pre-installed contains this ROM? Some unnecessary stuffs like those mentioned above? And is it pre-routed?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English...
We cannot make this decision for you, you'll have to do it yourself. The only way to find out is to try different firmwares, until you find the one that you think is the best.
What I CAN tell you is the following: I've had both KPN and KPO on my device, and I did not notice any difference between them. They were both stable and pretty fast. They have the screen unlock-lag, but think this is not a really big problem, since it only takes ~0.5/1 second.
None of the apps you noted in your post will be included on those firmwares, since these are original samsungfirmwares and not modded ones. Therefore it is not pre-rooted either.
Just going to put it out there. My rom my ui is kpn based it does use tencent launcher witch is simular to miui/iphone. Theres a test out now thats fully working and the complete rom will be out soon. Its really simple and easy to use, but very different to the stock rom. Your call. . .

Thanks for the answers. I'll give a try at KPN.
@jusada, I'll test your ROM soon, and will see if it's compatible with my Ace style
Thanks again you both
Try other custom ROMs when you have free time. You might find one of them that fits you.

Damned... I bricked my phone, because of KPN. I downloaded the S5830OXXKP7 and loaded it to Odin. It's one package file, so I clicked START, and... the download failed. I suppose that my phone must have some 2.3.3 Android before flashing KPN S5830OXXKP7... But it was 2.2.1 Froyo, and it bricks.
Now I'm downloading KPO 'cause I know it's full package, and will try to unbrick it...
Damned! How did you install KPN???

Calm down, i get this issue too. Flash back to 2.2.1 it will fix it. Then flash kpn. Trust me you'll be fine. You'll find 2.2.1 at samfirmware.com

I am curious how you did it. Did you use a Copper.ops file? You need it always when flashing firmwares.
Hey guys I was off line for quite sometime now and lots of new roms came up.please suggest me the best rom for me.i need mainly 3 things
1.excellent battery backup(high priority)
2.darktremors apps2sd with no hassles

Yes, of course. If I didn't use .ops, my "One Package" field is not active even when "One Package" radio button is marked...
I don't know how I bricked my phone - I loaded all files in Odin (the ROM .tar and the .ops file), and clicked on start button - the usual stuff when u flash new rom, step by step were accomplished. And then... BANG, stays on step number 3 at Odin, for about 2 hours... The counter shows that estimated time imo, is about 3-4 more hours, judging by that the green bar wasn't reach even the half way to end... And after that the connection drops, my phone says "Download failed" and... that was all...
Thanks God, I could go to download mode again, and I flashed back 2.2.1 and then KPO Full Package ROM, and my phone is still alive
But... it's slow... and still got the lockscreen lag, and I'm thinking to flash some custom ROM, because of speed...
Good moring everyone.
I would like to downgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.5 after updating from ICS through Kies couple days ago,As Ice Cream Sandwich is a complete failure on S2 there nothing special,Face-unlock: Too long time before the camera opens., it quicker just unlock with your finger, interface is the same, Battery seem to suck more juice only last day even though i got Genuine Samsung Extended Battery Kit for Galaxy S2 - 2000mAh where GB last 3 day plus dodgey lockscreen and etc the only best bit is in Setting. ICS and Samsung deffo need more work to it.
So would like to no how to go back to GB 2.3.5?

Im using the official Stock ICS that came though Kies
ICS Detail
PDA I9100XXLPQ
phone I9100NELP2
CSC I9100H3GLP2
so i like to retrun GB Official Firmware
It can be done.I had a custom XXLPH 4.0.3 ICS rom that I flashed via odin onto my galaxy S2.
I'm going through the same process now, going back to an original orange stock rom.
I downloaded an integrated package via check fus downloader and tried (as read and advised to load into Odin PDA box, check re- partition, have phone in USB debug mode, download mode on phone and flash.
However be careful as I'm finding out the (compressed / encrypted) ENC2 file that I downloaded is invalid so its causing me problems to install.
However to prove a point downgrading is easy, I have a copy of gingerbread 2.3.5 that is already split into various files to fill in the PHONE, PDA, PIT, CSC boxes in Odin.
This flashed over the ICS no problem.
So hopefully when I manage to download an uncorrupted Orange stock rom I'm sure it will work too!

Here's the answer!!
Is deep sleep? You can check with CPU-Spy. If not, remove the battery a few minutes and then returned.
I put 2.3.5 Orange rom back on temporarily, noticed the battery drain rather quick, don't know why anyone bothers downgrading or putting original stock rom back on their phones.
Changed network anyway to different sim package and I put ICS 4.0.3 UK carphone warehouse on the phone, no bloatware and battery doesn't drain now.
I'm going to stick with 4.0.3
Got roms from here:

Hey fellas, i'm looking to send my phone to Samsung for servicing, but obviously i cant let them see that i'm running ICS because it isnt out in Singapore yet.
so i've download DXLP7 in hope that i could flash my country's firmware before returning my phone.
Download both the kernel and the 7zip file that is 310mb in size.
opened the massive file to only find one tar file, so if i flash that via odin, my phone will completely return to stock?
as in a condition that the service centre wont suspect?
what about the kernel that i downloaded, do i have to flash that as well?
Much appreciate some help.
Regards,
Shawn.

Look at the battery status wich app is draining your battery.
Yesterday i didnt use my phone for 2 hours, before my battery was around 50% but after the 2 hour my battery was only 18%. I looked at my battery report/status and it said:
Xda 29
Screen 27
And some things like
Bla bla 7
Bla bla 4
...
Mostly my screen haves around 60% so, now xda is the same value but the screen didnt use more or less energy so.........
Thanks to the xda app my battery drained 2x so hard.
I gues (how do you spell that?) you also use the xda app and it alsobis your problem.

Hello All,
I am a noob.
So I am looking into going back to GB 2.3.5
I have flashed stock ICS Netherlands XWLP7 and I have downloaded the firmware of my country.
Which is: GT-I9100_EGY_I9100JPKJ2_I9100OJPKJ1_I9100XXKI4.tar.md5
And kernal: Kernel_I9100JPKJ2.tar.md5
I have a question, it has been explained to me that I need to flash these files using odin+flashing a PIT file and using re-partition.
I could not find a PIT file? where do I get it from to go along with my firmware?
And, do I need to flash a Modem?
Is it possible for the kind soul thats going to answer my questions to put it in 1,2, 3 steps so I can understand what do to first?
I.E
1- Flash kernal
2- Flash firmware
or what?
Thanks a lot!
@ Sn3aks:
What is the reason you are downgrading to GB?
What is the condtion of your phone now?
Who advised you to use pit file?
---------- Post added at 10:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 AM ----------
the firmware package you have mentioned already contains a kernel, no need of flashing kernel seperately..that is uploaded in the thread for future use when you needed to flash after rooting.
Thanks for your reply.
I am downgrading cause GB is more stable than ICS. Music player lags with some songs
Random crashes
I can not modify the in-call headset/handset volume from the servicemode. If you click Audio it doesnt come up with anything. And the in-call voice through earphones is really low
And other stuff that annoyed me and I couldnt remember.
The noticeable improvement in ICS is battery life and performance is fast
What is the condtion of your phone now?
My phone is ok, working fine, making calls, going over the internet normaly, IMEI is valid. Not rooted. Binary count = NO
Faryaab advised me to use a PIT file. I checked the guide in your signature and I read that anyone who asks about PIT file is a moron. Is this my case?
I dont think PIT file is required in your case,
You can try without using PIT first.

hello everyone.
I'm using andyx firmware v15 and taking my attention that battery dies too fast and phone feels lagging at times.
So i want to go back to the stock firmware and use a rooted stock firmware. but i have a couple of questions:
1) i dont really know which pda or country's firmware i have to use.bought my phone from poland and living in turkey now. can i find out which version the phone originally came with from the box or anywhere else?
if using any firmware wont matter, is there any particular one i should use? maybe getting the newest updates before the ones?
2) is the version 4.0.4 safe to use? my friend suggested me to use that one but i'm a little pissed off after reading the brick stories about it.
3) also someone else told me to flash stock firmware then go for the siyah kernel. whats the benefit for that?

1) there are no particular firmwares. Try out different firmwares on whatever suits you best. I suggest you go up for Gingerbread because of its stability and battery life. But if you want to be updated on the trending things, go for ICS.
2) i suggest you go for custom roms with 4.0.4 as a basis.
3) siyah kernel MAY be a suitable kernel for you, but then again, it could be different. Try out different kernels that best suits you

Use CheckFus to find the latest firmware for your phone and flash it with ODIN.
To root your phone just do some reading. There are quite a few methods described here, some are easy, some are more complicated. In the end choose one that corresponds to your needs and skills.
Ive just done what you were asking for similar reasons. I went on to samfirmware site and picked latest and safest ROM. Then on to chainfires thread for the insecure kernel to root my S2. (thanks to chainfire) No a difficult task just read before flasing and make necessary back ups. All tbe best.

Help me guys - please just clarify, the 1 .tar.md5 file found when the stock package is unzipped goes into which box?
bootloader pda phone or csc??
I ask because my girlfriend has upgraded from a galaxy pro - so from froyo to gingerbread. She restored all apps and data via titanium backup and her froyo sms app has overwritten her gingerbread one, i tried reinstalling google apps after deleting the froyo version but it didnt work, (not sure if i flashed the official ones or the cyanogenmod ones, nothing on the internet i could find gave a clear definition between the two, it didnt fully install because of a lack of signature or something) any way that is why im sat here now waiting for the answer to the question at the top.
Any help would earn my eternal gratitude. Breaking your own phone is one thing but someone elses would be a nightmare. :|
