so i was wanting to load the bionix rom, so i did a nandroid on my last rom. bionix was "okay" so i decided i wanted to go back to my eugene rom.
so i use rom manager to load the old image, and while doing so it gives me some error that i should report to rom manager. i cant exactly say what it was. so i told it to reboot, but now im back on bionix, and all my apps are crashing. i cant get into the launcher or anything. so getting to rom manager was out of the question.
so i call my friend who says i probably need to load a stock image, which thats fine whatever. so i do some googlin' and i come across this method forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 (new user..cant post links)
i try to follow the directions best i could. ive never used odin before. so for the "pit" i select the "samsung galaxy s firmware flasher" (which was the only file my computer let me pick) and for the pda part i selected t959uvjd.tar file they also had listed. also the instructions said i didnt need to select the other boxes (phone, csc, etc)
so i put it in recovery, hit start, after a few minutes my screen just shows the little android guy and a caution sign. odin still says "file analysis" and its been like this for about 20 minutes...
so....where do i go now? please be as descriptive as possible..apparently im still a lil green at all this
How did you get into recovery mode? Are you sure it wasn't download mode? Did you use the hardware way with vol up +dwn and power or did you use adb

i used adb to get into recovery. i figured out its not bricked. i restarted it and its doing the same thing. by that i mean it boots up, but all my apps are crashing still..so i guess i gotta figure out how to actually use odin to mount the stock image.
before you use odin, make sure you are hardware unlocked. I bricked one that was hardware locked using odin. Read, read, read.
The android guy and the caution sign is download mode, what you need to flash odin. Odin can be finicky. Once your in dl mode on your phone, unplug it from the usb cable, then launch odin and load the files. Reconnect your pc and you should see a com port light up in odin. If it doesn't light up, disconnect and reconnect again, or relaunch odin, reload the files and then reconnect the usb. Sometimes it takes some playing with it to find the right combo to make it work. After that its happy flashing time, you should see the progress under the selected com port in odin, kick back and wait for the reboot.
Be sure you have the GalaxyS drivers loaded on your pc too, your comp will never see your phone in dl mode without the drivers

Download mode for me is an android guy is IN a triangular caution sign & says "downloading..."
Stock recovery with the MENU button pressed shows me an android standing next to a caution sign. Think the op should clarify.

I do remember the little andriod guy and the caution sign from the one and only time i got stuck in stock recovery. I can't boot to it with any button combo, but the first time I tried to make an update.zip myself, well, yeah i got rebooted to stock recovery. My mind went to dl mode when I read the op, as thats what I have the most experience using, and luckily can boot to that way easily on my phone. I think you are correct G1, op may be booting to recovery mode and attempting to flash, when dl mode is whats necessary.

well origionally i was not in download mode, i only saw the screen i was talking about once, but i ended up actually getting it into download mode and using odin tried flashing the stock roms. it would hang everytime. the only rom i was able to get working was eugenes froyo port. its incredibly buggy and a whole lot of things dont work correctly on my phone. i tried the unlocking method to see if that helps, but my phone is really fighting everything i do right now.
but i do have a replacement coming, so im just gonna deal with a phone that wigs out whenever i try to do stuff for a few days.
Hello ppl
I've had some problems with my Samsung Vibrant (The T-Mobile model) since last friday. As I am kinda new to android, i did some stupid things, such as inserting GT-i9000 firmware into it by mistake, wich didn't work.
So I downloaded JI5 firmware, inserted it into my Vibrant using Odin, and upgraded it to JI6 using Kies.
The only thing I was bothered is that every time i switched my phone On, the 1st screen I was seeing was "Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000", wich suddenly was changing into VIBRANT and the boot was going on OK, and I could use my phone normally.
In fact, not normally. I couldn't root it with One Click Lag Fix, nor with that update.zip thing in recovery mode, since I couldn't enter recovery mode (the keys combination were not working at all for it).
After a few hours of google, I found nothing that would solve my problem. By this far, I've have already downloaded a lot of firmwares, and i was still seeing the GT-i9000 screen before everything, and could not root or access recovery mode on myd device.
Then it came to me the GREAT IDEA! Download JI4, and older firmware, and upgrade it using KIES to JI6.
First step was alright. I downloaded JI4, installed on my vibrant using Odin... but when I started kies to upgrade it, Kies told me my fw version wasn't upgradeable. Damn!
So i decided to turn back to JI5 using Odin.
Occurs that when I start my phone in "download mode", now it shows me a screen saying "POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE". Odins recognize it normally, but when I try to upload a JI5 or JI6 firmware, it keeps stuck in this message:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
I've tried to restart this proccess dozens of times and still had no success.
Would any of you guys help me?
My phone is working right now, with JI4, but it is not what I want!!
Close odin and restart it. Sometimes it takes a few times with odin.
Incidentally, why don't you just download the OTA JI6 file and flash it with odin on here.
Or just keep it open and open another one to flash with, that helps my odin issues

Hey. I recently was using the Froyo Rom that had the same boot screen that read "Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000." I also have a TMobile Samsung Vibrant. I had that same problem with recovery where none of the keys would work. I resolved the issue by using oding and I flashed T959UVJFD which is the original shipped FW for it. Try that method.
Remember use Odin 1.3 version. In Odin, place a check box in "Re-partition" and leave everything else the same. Select your 512.PIT for PIT and Phone should be set to
T959UVJD.tar. Than select start. Before that make sure your phone displays "Downloading Mode". Remove battery first and Re-insert it, while holding both up and down volume keys (make sure usb cable is connected into phone first) than finally open up odin, connect the usb cable to the computer. Odin should detect it with a yellow COM Port ID.
Thanks.

I was just coming here to tell this. I've downloaded T959UVJFD and made this to enter download mode correctly:
METHOD 1: ACCESSING DOWNLOADER/RECOVERY:
(if the following directions do not work... then your phone may be locked out from using hardware buttons to access downloader/recovery)
Download Mode:
With the phone powered off
Plug in the USB cable.
Turn the phone on it's side and use both thumbs to hold (left thumb) Vol Up and (right thumb) Vol Down
Press and hold the power button with your right index finger til you see "Virbant" release the power button and it should say Downloading.
Recovery Mode:
With the phone powered off
UnPlug the USB cable.
Turn the phone on it's side and use both thumbs to hold (left thumb) Vol Up and (right thumb) Vol Down
Press and hold the power button with your right index finger til you see "Virbant" release the power button and it should be on the recovery screen.

Now i'm upgrading to JI6 with KIES, i think everything is gonna be alright.
Cool. Glad to see things will be okay now.
Using KIES is your first mistake, even T-Mobile doesn't recommend it...
Make sure you have the Samsung USB drivers installed to use ODIN.
Moved to...Q&A
So i accidently managed to start to put samsung captivate software on my phone. It boots up and shows AT&t logo and just blinks every 5 seconds.
I am trying to save it by this article
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
The problem is that i cant get into Download mode. So im stuck. Please help. im an idiot. I cant get into Hboot to....
Ok those instructions are screwy...turn oden on then hold both volume up and volume down and plug vibrant to computer still holding both volumes your phone should automaticaly start in download mode...and oden will recognize your phone as com x ....x representing some random #....from there add the pit and tar files then hit start...good to go
Ps while oden is loading you will see a blue rectangle that says reset or reseting....wait till it is green and says pass.
Pm me if you have any other probs, ill do my best to help you out
Bionix-V 1.3 w/a Splash of Color
Get into recovery like caricj5 said remove the battery then holding volume up and down at the same time plug in the computer to the usb already hooked up to the computer Also use the Odin 1.81 vwesion Then follow these instructions:
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
Thanks guys, i couldnt get it into download mode, around the verge of giving up (10th time) it worked. From there Oden then failed with the packages. Unplugged and replugged the phone and that it worked. now running bionix 1.3.1, funny thing is it still shows that AT&T logo when booting up.
Try reflashing JUST the kernel that came with bionix 1.3.1. I think it's overstock 1.4 and see if the at&t logo still comes up. I'm not sure if a reboot or wiping dalvik will fix that? Somebody correct me, if i'm wrong. Good luck.
EDIT: bionix 1.3.1 came with kb1/voodoo so i guess try flashing overstock 1.4. then if you prefer kb1 download just the kernel and flash back.

he has to reflash the sbl.bin for the vibrant to get that screen off of there.
Hello,
Recently I tried to fix my phone and for some reason thought I needed to repair my bootloader. I was reading a thread on here and it seemed like the solution someone posted was the fix I needed.
Wrong! I flashed the primary bootloader and secondary bootloader that was intended for a Samsung I9000 Galaxy S. After I had done that I couldn't get into download mode. My phone would still turn on and go to a boot screen that said "Samsung I9000 Galaxy S" and then it would turn into my old "Vibrant" screen. This would just loop over and over.
I couldn't get it into download mode for the life of me! Up/Down + Power wasn't working. Neither was the Up/Down + drop your battery back into your phone trick. So today I went out and picked up a jig and SUCCESS! My phone can now get back into download mode. At this point my computer doesn't recognize my phone when I plug it in while in download mode. I fixed that by installed the drivers for the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S. Heimdall and Odin both recognize my phone as being plugged in.
Now this is where I'm stuck. How can I flash my original bootloader(s) back onto my phone? Where would I even download those at?
Regards,
kitchen
just odin the stock jfd in the bible
I was facing this problem.
At first I just could not go in Download mode as Vibrant does not have Home button. But then from one of the threads on xda I found out that pressing Up volume key (actual Up key of Vibrant not considering the reversing effect) and Power button together got me successfully on Download mode. I could do this successfully a number of times.
Now the second part. Yes, xstone is right, just download the stock JFD from Vibrant bible and flash it using Odin.
Make sure you use a 512 pit file while flashing and the 'Re-partition' and 'Phone Bootloader Update' check boxes should be checked.
Note: Although I got JFD working, I was still seeing i9000 screen followed by Vibrant screen at startup (though this does not have any ill effect). I then had a nandroid backup of my KA6 (froyo), I restored that using CWM and bang, everything was normal after that. No more i9000 screen at startup.
You can skip the nandroid backup if you don't have it or you don't want to, at least you would having a working phone with stock JFD.
This is where you will get stock JFD - "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475"
Thanks for the links and info guys.
However, Odin doesn't seem to be getting anywhere past "File analysis.."
Here's what I'm doing:
1) Removed SD and SIM card
2) Removed battery and made sure phone was completely off
3) Put battery back in and used a jig to get it into download mode
4) Open up Odin (as administrator)
5) Setup the PIT and PDA, and checked Re-Partition
6) Plugged phone into the USB port (I've tried both)
7) Hit Start

did you check the md5 sum to make sure they were a good download for the pit/tar?
May not matter, but I prefer this order when i ODIN
open odin on pc
connect usb to pc
phone into download
connect usb to phone
odin should show a COM & a # to show it's connected
select the pit and tar files
click start
wait for it to finish and phone reboot.

This did happen for me. Go to Control Panel > Device Manager and remove Samsung Composite Device or any other drivers related to Samsung Phone.
Then reconnect your phone to your pc/laptop, it will freshly install the phoen drivers. Now open Odin and try flashing.
^ good point... also make sure you are using the latest one in addition.
Please please please could anyone help!
About a month ago I upgraded to Ice cream sandwich (LP7) and then rooted my S2. All worked fine for 3 or 4 days and then suddenly it crashed for no reason. I suspect, but am not sure, that it did an automatic update. On rebooting it just stops at the Samsung S2 screen with a yellow triangle.
For the last few weeks i have been trying to find a fix, but am at my wits end now.
I have gone through the different solutions on your site but to no avail also where mine seems to be different is that I can get into boot mode and odin always says its successful. I have tried different pc and usb cable too just in case that was an issue
I can not get into Volume up mode, but i can get into boot mode with volume down. I have tried re loading a few different rom's and Odin says that the transfer was successful each time, however it is still stuck at the same place on reboot.
Tried reloading kernel and re partitioning, and again Odin said it went OK, but still stuck on start screen.
Tried using a jig and turned phone on, but it the phone just went to the start screen again.
If i could just get into reset mode, i could clear the memory, but this is not working either.
If anyone could help i would be very so grateful.
Thanks

I think your data partition is corrupt, but you can still get it solved.
You need to special .pit file. I'll post you the link (for the .pit file and instructions) very soon

In the Odin window, click on the PDA button and select the I9100_CODE_I9100XXLQ5_CL753921_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5file. The file should show on the space beside the PDA button.
Click on the PHONE button and select MODEM_I9100XXLQ5_REV_02_CL1165929.tar.md5 file. The file should show on the space beside the Phone button.
Click on the CSC button and select the GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXALQ5.tar.md5file. The file should show on the space beside the CSC button.
Don’t alter anything else in Odin. Leave everything else as is, except for adding the files mentioned in steps 7 to 9.
Click on the Start button in Odin to start flashing the firmware to your phone.
After the flashing completes, your phone will automatically reboot. You should be able to get a “PASS†message on the top left part of Odin.
NOTE: If you get a FAIL message or Odin gets stuck, disconnect your phone from the PC and close Odin. Remove the battery from your phone, re-insert it, and place your phone into Download Mode again. Open Odin and do the procedure starting from step 6.
Once you see the Samsung logo on your phone’s screen, you can safely disconnect your phone from the PC.
Hope this helps!

Extract the contents of the I9100XXLQ5_I9100OXALQ5_OXA.zip file to get these files:
I9100_CODE_I9100XXLQ5_CL753921_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXALQ5.tar.md5
MODEM_I9100XXLQ5_REV_02_CL1165929.tar.md5
u1_02_20120326_emmc_EXT4_8GB.pit
Extract the contents of the Odin 1.85.zip file to obtain the Odin3 v1.85.exe file.
Double-click on the Odin3 v1.85.exe file to launch Odin on your computer.
Unplug your phone from the computer if it is connected. After unplugging, turn your phone off.
Put your phone into Download Mode. To do this, hold the Volume Down, Home, and Power buttons together until the screen turns on. Press the Volume Up key to put your phone into Download Mode.
Connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable. In Odin, a message saying “Added!!†will appear on the bottom left of the window.

Try this I did and it worked to get mine booting after a bad update.
I messed around with it using several methods of getting it to boot into download mode until I finally got it to do it. I think I left it plugged into the USB, powered it down until I saw the charging screen, then I proceeded to play with the different ways to hold the buttons to get it to download mode. If you are persistent enough and read a little on booting methods to get bricked phone into download mode you will succed if not then your not for the world of trial and error... the main thing is do the first steps I said before until it works
1. Get into Download Mode (WITH THE PHONE PLUGGED IN) by following the steps below
*Turn off the phone until you get to the charging battery screen (keep in mind, your phone is currently PLUGGED IN)
*Press volume up and down, and power all at once.
*As soon as the screen turns black, release your power button.
2. Unplug phone from USB
or try
2. Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
3. Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
4. Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
5. As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
6. You should be in Download Mode.
7. Unplug phone from USB
any how try try try until it works
Once in download mode
Get your files together for your phone, and use Odin 1.85.
Plug into Odin and make sure it shows yellow and its added!
1. Now if your files have like 3 files and the exact .pit file for your phone if available.
I found mine here (Find yous stock firmware for your phone)
2. Click the PIT button and browse to your exact .pit file for your phone *It should now have added a check in the re-partition box under the options area of the Odin window. If not CHECK IT!
***If you don't have your .pit don't worry about this unless you suspect, or have a bad partition
3. If you have just 1 file just click the PDA button and load the file. If you have 3 then you will load the PDA file in PDA, the Modem file into PHONE, and the CSC file into CSC, there are way too many phones to link all the files so get you stuff together!
4. Now hit start.
5. When done and the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever... immediately unplug the battery from the phone to shut it down.
6. Now put it back in and start it in Upload mode by pressing Vol Up, Home at the same time then the Power button.
7. As soon as the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever let go of all buttons and using the Vol Up down Choose the Clear Cache option and go through and make sure you factory reset it if you can just for good measure.
8. Reboot
9. Now when the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever take out battery again to power off
10. Now put it back in and start it in Download mode by pressing Vol Down, Home at the same time then the Power button.
11. Once in download mode Hook up to Odin again and flash it with a root kernel for your phone. Do not ask me just find it. I did it took time but I got all the files together over several days of reading and collecting the correct ones.
12. When done and the phone shows the first sign of starting up IE Logo or whatever... immediately unplug the battery from the phone to shut it down.
13. Now put it back in and start it in Upload mode by pressing Vol Up, Home at the same time then the Power button.
14. In most roots you will now have a advanced or mounting options and more options to use.
15. I cleared the Cache again, Cleared the Davilik Cache, Went into a option and actually mounted the cache formatted the Cache.
16. Use the option now to restart the phone...
And mine started up installed the apps and I am up and running, nice and smooth and no issues so far
I hope this helps out someone whos just about to go off the deep end, as I was there and patience and trial and error came up with this step by step way to recover mine. Thank me by hitting the little thumbs up THANKS button below this post.
And if your so happy your phone is up show your appreciation by buying me a Pepsi
