So, I would like to ask a question about that cm9 camera
"Borked, so don't even ask"
Well I'm not asking in the thread am I. But still I don't necessarily understand what ice cream sandwich really changed in as an update. Did the direction to the camera connecting to memory change through the framework? I mean, I'm no genius on how to fix this, but, keeping the community in the dark is not the answer.
So my final question is: what borked the camera in photon cm9?

why dont you ask the guys that are working on it?
Most of the library's compiled for ics are for a different kernel version. The version we need doesn't have the source code released for our devices yet.

I've been doing a good amount of research and according to most sources it's a driver issue that's currently being worked on...What I would REALLY like to know is if there will be any support for the front-facing camera as well...
i really hope that they get the camera working soon enough cause i really dont wanna flash back to another rom.
Im going to be flashin once the camera is fixed on this. Cm9 is starting to sound exciting but until the camera is working i wont be flashing haha

This should be in the general section...
Anyways one day it will

Agree is should go in general. Cyanogen said that it wouldn't be until maybe January for an alpha of CM9.
As for asking for your specific phone, give it time... it hasn't even been a month since ICS source was released.

In the meantime, CM7.1 would be nice - but will they just skip over 7.1 for new devices and focus on 9?
Just as a heads up, Max Krivonos posted that he stopped working on CM7 for the amaze and is going straight to CM9,
Double edged sword. Great for CM9 but no CM at all for a few months.
Yea I really miss CM. Wish it would get here asap.

I've thought alot about selling this phone due to the lack of having a huge community support (face it, it's no Sensation, Desire Z/HD, Evo, etc)... The hardware is good, the replacement? Obviously a Galaxy Nexus, if there is a solid CM9 port for this device, I would probably just save myself the trouble and keep using this, This has everything that the international GNex would have, except for the huge high res amoled screen. Please Koush/Max!!!! (I would think quite a bit could be borrowed from the Pyramid builds, with the obvious exception of the NFC/camera)
Uh... How long has the phone been out?? Let's face that first before complaining about the lack of development... It'd be nice if there was but its not going to happen over night...

Be patient my friend! I think the reason behind (kinda) lacking developtment for this phone is because there will be an ICS came out soon for it in early 2012 and most Devs are waiting for the official Amaze ICS release rather than wasting their time to built rom that would only last for less than two months
On that perspective I am really thankful for Xboarder for his effort to brought us something to satisfied our addictiveness of flashing meanwhile
I am more thankful to Max Krivonos, and Keyan Mobli (Scepterr/kmobs), Max is probably gonna be the maintainer for the Amaze for CM9 and is currently the maintainer for the MT4GS, kmobs is the maintainer of the Sensation for CM9 and has it to a point where he's said "So I'm now using ICS as my daily driver"... There is hope, but if you're looking for CM7/9 or any REAL AOSP build, don't expect xboarder to deliver that, I don't think he compiles anything, he's a themer/kanger/(insert less offensive term here). There is hope, but I'm dying to see some actual AOSP builds, GB or ICS.

Well, I'm by no mean a tech guy or whatsoever in that manner. All I can do is follows instruction to flashing Rom and stuff so when it come to judging who done what I have no idea eventhough I'm very much understanding what kang is ...
Perhaps when Max and whoever on CyanogenMod team came over and gave us some ICS or CM9 goodness, 'til then, the very few peoples who get this Amaze forum go on as it is and gave us something to played with is Xboarder56, Mike1986 and NRGZ28 .... and for that I am appreciates their times and effort putting into it

Just trying to keep options out there during our "slow" (see:new) period. Development takes time--Hell, I'm stuck on a macbook until I can save up for a notebook. Once I get that, I'll be able to do real theming/modding. UOT framework feels like a cop-out right now, but it is all that is being offered and we need the activity to draw more people. I have a to-do list of mods I want to do, but until I get my hardware back, it isn't happening.
Ultimately, it is patience. This phone is very new--ICS is around the corner.

Well, my question is pretty short: What benefit came to us with the new Adreno libs released by Qualcomm? I mean, we already had an almost fully functional ICS port to our Mimmis thanks to paul-xxx, so what would it help to him? Since the drivers has been released, a few more than two weeks ago, the thread has quickly descended on the MPro Development forum, and it seems no one implemented it, or gave any use to them at all. Is it slow to do this? What can developers do now that they have these new drivers at their command? Will they help to fix the camera problems that seems to happen on most ICS ports?

Could you give an example of a compatibility issue presented by ICS because of these outdated libs?
And, regarding to the ROM, paul released his CM9 after his phone broke. I dont know how did he do that, but I'm pretty sure. Also, the ROM by nAa you sent, I dont really get it: Is it just for X8 or is it for all X8/X10/Mini Pro? I think a ROM can only support one device, but the notes say: "MiniCM9 is built for the X8 / x10mini / x10minipro range. It is in ALPHA state but quite stable and it's the most feature-complete ICS ROM perfect for day to day use", so that confuses me a little bit. Thanks for your time !
There are many issues that are fixed by the new libs mostly with the camera app I believe I havent used it yet.
And devs like paul has experince with this so they know from experince. Or they could have created but did not relese it not after the phone broke. The link I bellieve is for the shakira or just the x8. Im waiting for the mimmi port

Looks rather neat honestly.
Yes that is what I meant lol, spell check for the win. I went to their site and looked at the devices supported and they had someone listed as an official Porter, but he said he could not help. I'm thinking we just gather a bunch of people who are also interested and see if we can't justify a reason for them to port it for us.

Dude, this makes me want a Galaxy Nexus even more... I can't see this working all to well on the Vibrant because of the lack of screen real estate... ROM looks sick though.. *sizzle* hawt!
Actually I think it would work just fine. I had added an early version of a tablet mod to my phone before and it worked fine for the most part.

Looks cool, but do any of you guys know if its been ported to the I9000 or even any other SGS device? Not the SGS2 but the original, if it has, it shouldn't be too hard to port it.

No I do not know that, according to the thread they are nearing the height of development and expect to be able to port it everywhere... Currently, only device they have taken it to is the Note.. This rom should catch on, I only threw that prior comment about screen size not allowing out there to get some attention.. Lol..

Yep, I understand. I was just saying that if it does get ported to the I9000, which if probably going to happen if it comes to the original SGS family at all, it won't take more than 20 minutes to port it, and thats with the upload time being like 10 minutes.
-change key buttons
-change kernel
-flash

Ditto.. I have wanted something like this on my hardware since Honeycomb 3.0 but Google never released the source for that and the 3.0 ports for the Vibrant never made it off the ground... However, tablet mode on ICS implements UI elements from 3.0 and the API's and frameworks were released for 4.0.. This ROM is a stroke of genius with it's "Hybrid Mode".. My eyes are peeled with excitement!
Yeah hoping their next release is the milestone we need for a port. Just read o e of their nexus threads and their next release is supposed to be a game changer so keep your fingers crossed.

Guys, the Nexus S has been added under supported devices! They have a thread going over there!!
I'm not sure but I think the I9000 forums have a way of porting the Nexus S ROMS. Just hope I9000 gets it.
I was looking into it how they ported that Joy OS mod and Lewa OS mod but I have not had time to fully implement their techniques... They do seem to have ways..
Not everything can be done for us users but it would be great if this from would garnish some looks from some of our more seasoned devs..
I am considering rolling up my sleeves and messing with some packages on this one though if it is not picked up soon ...
why the hell not.. although....
That whole EU ICS error going around in the Cappy section is kinda scary though.. Very little coverage on these Vibrant threads outside of Moped mentioning it and one small topic...
That is the only thing that is freaking me out with flashing anything and moving away from my current setup...
The EU is a problem on vibrant also. If you go to the aokp thread you will see lots of people have gotten EU with the last build.

Yes, that is what is spooky about it.. Like I said earlier Moped_Ryder in our development section discussed his reservations about using any additional ICS rom in his thread for his rom due to the EU errors people with Vibrant and Cappys are having.. He also commented on a users topic who posted about a brick question in the Vibrant dev section which seems to be another EU error.
.. As I also stated earlier there is hardly any info/awareness outside of random posts here in the Vibrant section on XDA...
FYI
For anyone who gets a "reset phone" message on their Vibrant, whatever you do do not hit reset... Try restarting the device into recovery even with a battery pull without an external SD card plugged in.. I hear Odin back to stock is one thing to consider in case of these events or even using SlimIcs has proven to get the phone back up is but the internal sd may be gone so a etc/Vold.fstab editing may need to happen to boot off of external sd's...
Disclaimer... for anyone who had not read up on the EU errors Vibrant and Cappy owners are having, research it... EU stands for Encryption Unsuccessful and it seems too many data wipes may be the culprit.. many users have expressed going back to 2.2 and even Gingy in many cases, it seems to have less strain on our internal sdcards...
MP the developer of the Subzero kernel is also aware and looking into it perhaps being related to Kernel versions 3.X and up... This is something to keep an eye on folks... His effort is probably not a solitary one...
See more in these two guides...

find a dev whos willing to maintain it. as long it stays true to our vision and uses cm9 we'd give support, when we can. jesus/darknessys over in the s2's i9100 original dev section can set you up, add you to the maintainer list and maybe the other guys that did it already can help you out with something.

actually google took honeycomb and completely married it to ice cream sandwich, the two are one. ics on a tablet is the same that runs on a phone. theres a tiny switch in there that acknowledges a certain display-lenght treshold and then it drops the entire UI into tab mode. this was known for a longtime but unfortunately it trashes your phone. hybrid mode means we have hooks and rewrites sitting on top of ics aosp code, we recompiled the framework, and this stuff makes tablet mode more flexible - you dont get overlapping, apps wont be too small, you can adjust fontsizes, you can switch an app from mobileUI into tabUI and back. PA on top of it gives support for things that still break, it has a fixed market for instance, a fixed keyboard, a fixed launcher, etc. its an all-in rom for this kinda stuff.
battlekry leaving this is your hands as I wouldn't even know where to start.

Hey Guys,
I want to preface my inquiry by first saying thank you to all the devs who have helped unlock the true potential that the bolt has to offer - with out the devs I would have turned my back on this device long ago. You guys keep it interesting and for that I cannot thank you enough.
For months I have read about how there were many people hard at work with getting ICS up and running. The main blocker was the RIL which pretty much left many projects at a stand still. Now that the leak has surfaced - does that mean that the RIL is good to go? I half thought XDA would be bursting at the seams with people releasing ICS roms but it hasnt really been like that. I certainly do not have the expertise to get my hands dirty and create a rom but was hoping maybe a more senior dev could explain why the leak hasnt solved the RIL issue.
Thanks,
Chris

The leaks are very buggy at this point.
Everything should be good to go once the actual OTA is released.
From that, developers should be able to use everything without having as many issues.

The leak is sense based therefore the ril for aosp is still having to be hacked up to work. I believe that it has helped with fixing the ics ril we have now but they cant just be copied and pasted and work. Roms are being developed as we speak that will use the things gained from the leak.

I know this is utter noob question but can't really help it ! In this part (and i assume that in many others parts too) of the world there are still people stuck with devices running on GB not even cyanogen or other after market rom support !
This is the main reason i was wondering whether whether goodies like 'project butter' can be ported to 2.3.6 gingerbread !
Me being a noob i don't know the technical aspects of what i just said so don't pick on me please ! This might seem like a joke to devs, if any ,who read this ! And i don't expect anybody to work on this after seeing this ! All i want to know is whether its possible ? Will there be any benefit ?and if so what would it take ?
Sorry if posted in wrong section !

Yes it's probably possible but it would not work very well due to the major differences in the way hardware acceleration works in gingerbread compared to ICS and up. Like I said if you could get it to work the instability it would cause would far outway the performance gains. As far as what would it take, libraries and binaries would have to be heavily modified and reverse engineered, then patched it would be a big undertaking. Hope this clears things up .
