Okay so I'm like a real noob that doesn't even know anything about programming and all those stuff.
So I'm interested in this so-called ICS ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465401
which people say that it's just a theme and wanna install it on my Galaxy Ace.
In the thread he says :
" -Do a 3x wipe dalvik cache
-Flash normally through CWM "
I don't get what he's talking about, so I hope someone kind can explain it to me.
Sorry for this noob and easy question but I hope you can understand my condition as I'm new to everything. Please don't flame me =)
If u have root, put the Rom on your SD Card
Boot Into Recovery, there u can find a option to clear/wipe dalvik cache make this 3 times.
Afther that install the rom with the option install zip from Sdcard.
CWM means Clockworkmod - a Recovery System.
If its your first time to install a new Rom, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145

When I first got my Optimus V it'd been, and still is, my first android phone. I jumped in ass first and followed a guide to put Clockwork Recovery and aospcmod on my phone. I've been reading up on Bumblebee and Xionia recovery and want to try that out.
The only problem that I am faced with is I don't know how to change recoveries, how to wipe, backup, and install a new rom & kernel. Any help, much appreciated.

afaik you can flash the new recovery in recovery
all the wiping is done in recovery. there should a an option to wipe data, dalvik cache, etc.
theres an option to make a nand backup in recovery too but remember that backups from one recovery are probably not compatible with another recovery.
your rom should have specific instructions on how to flash it, but this is the general scope:
download the file (on your phone, or on your computer and then transfer it to your phone)
place it in at the root of your sdcard (directory /sdcard)
boot into recovery and wipe data, dalvik cache, etc
flash rom (it comes with a kernel, you can flash your own kernel later)
done (first boot might take a while, dont worry)
of course as i said, this is kinda the general thing. check the instructions for your rom
I didn't find an answer to this question in my search, so here goes:
I did Optimus T root (gingerbreak) & custom recovery (amonra) and installed a custom ROM. (android 2.2.2)
It says that it may take "a while" to boot . What is the longest time anyone has had to wait for the phone to boot for the first time after custom ROM ?
I've been waiting over 20 minutes now and no response.
Should I assume it is bricked ?
I thought I did everything the way it was supposed to, except I'm not sure about this step: "Wipe your cache, dalvik cache, SD card"
What does wipe your SD card mean ? The card contains the recovery stuff, so surely you're not supposed to delete that ?
Thanks.
Sd card wipe is optional, however did you wipe data before installing a ROM?
Swyped from my LG-P509 using XDA App.
I did the wipe of cache and davlik cache.
Actually, I just tried a different custom rom, and now it worked. Not sure why, but I'll experiment some more I guess.
5-10minute ??
Hello People.. i Joined XDa like 1 or 2 months ago.. i installed some roms and discovered why i get some random bootloops when installing a rom.. (if you done all ok and you get a bootloop follow this steps)
-Wipe Data --> Yes
-Wipe cache --> Yes
*Mounts and Storage* Format System --> Yes
*Advanced* Wipe Dalvik Cache --> Yes
Now Flash the ROM.. if The ROM have a CWM SuperSu Fix in Addons Flash it Without Rebooting! then Reboot.. after you boot to Home... complete Wizard and reboot again (not to CWM)
Now Install CWM (if u have locked bl now u dont have anymore CWM recovery.. so install it using the app called x-parts)
Boot to CWM and install add ons 1 by 1.. (for example.. Lockscreen, then reboot.. then flashlight, reboot.. camera fix, reboot.. etc..)
This way is needed in roms Like HyperBeamNewEra or HyperBeamNewTime (because khemaras told to flash lockscreen after rom and that cause many bootloops! if u check out last comments of NewTime all of them say Bootloops at LWW.. and i tried this way and i got no bootloop at locked bl.)
Hope you enjoyed the Post!

2- sorry for the bad english.. i dont speak it well.. if you didnt understand it well pm me and i will try to explain it better.
I was having problem installing some roms but as i was not formatting the system....thanks for this thread...now they work like charm....pressed thanks
I wouldn't recommend to format system before installing a rom:
1. Formatting system should be defined in the updater-script, so there's no need to do it manually
2. Formatting system can cause a status 7 (?) error, because of a getprop line. It tries to get the device's information, but because of formatting system it can't read the information and you get an error.
I would just format system, if it's necessary according to the thread of the rom :good:
I dont know what am I doing wrong. Let me start from the all over again. I have cwm 5.x (dont know the exact version) and cm7. Now i dont know how to install cwm to be my default recovery so i can only acces it when i enter my default recovery mode and go to install update.zip and aelect cwm 5.x, than i am in cwm recovery. At first i wipe data/factory reset after that i wipe cache and last i go to advanced and wipe dalvik. Than i go to install zip from sd and select cm7.zip a it says (no matter what cm i had) assert failed getprop something like that and there i loose my minds so i dont know what am i doing wrong. Can somei make a detailed noob guide for me. My mobile phone is samsung galaxy ace s5830i.
Please refer to the Q&A thread.

you miss 1 thing, Wipe Data / Factory Reset
And next time, please posting in the "Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" if you wanna ask something, this section for developers only, not for asking questions...
