Okay so I'm like a real noob that doesn't even know anything about programming and all those stuff.
So I'm interested in this so-called ICS ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465401
which people say that it's just a theme and wanna install it on my Galaxy Ace.
In the thread he says :
" -Do a 3x wipe dalvik cache
-Flash normally through CWM "
I don't get what he's talking about, so I hope someone kind can explain it to me.
Sorry for this noob and easy question but I hope you can understand my condition as I'm new to everything. Please don't flame me =)
If u have root, put the Rom on your SD Card
Boot Into Recovery, there u can find a option to clear/wipe dalvik cache make this 3 times.
Afther that install the rom with the option install zip from Sdcard.
CWM means Clockworkmod - a Recovery System.
If its your first time to install a new Rom, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145

Follow the instructions for that rom is all you do dont make up your own instructions .
Usually wipe of cache and dalvik is recommend by rom instructions .
jje
ok, also i must every update make a wipe cache partition, advanced / wipe dalvik cache, wipe data / factory reset and set my homescreen apps every time new?

No just follow the makers instructions for that rom .
If they say factory reset thats what you do otherwise no.
jje
but the maker have not an UPDATE instruction... only an install instruction with a fullwipe...
i use this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457061
Thats a non Samsung based custom rom i suggest you search for MIU post/forum .
Found via the stickies .

In that case, if you do an update, do a wipe cache/Dalvik before & after update (this is what I do when I update Galnet Miui, unless it's a new stable release. I do a clean install for these). Obviously if you have problems/FC's, then perhaps do a full wipe. It really does depend on the rom as JJE has said. The maker may not have a specific update instruction, but did it ever occur to you to ask the creator of the rom either in the thread, by PM, or by carrier pigeon note ?
Initiative, tho a beautiful thing, seems to have become less and less common on here of late. Everyone's looking for 'the easy route'.

How do i install this, Do i just do the usual Like format the phone Wipe Cache and all that Or not. Also if i did Flash to this Would i be able to Flash back to Cm7.
Thanks
Just flash it like any other rom... i.e.
Wipe all - Factory Reset
Format System
Wipe DALVIK Cache
Wipe Battery Stat
FLASH ROM
And yeah, u can flash back to ur cm7 any time.
Make sure that the new rom ur flashing doesn't require u to also flash a different kernel or radio.

Hi! I see that you are a new member, I suggest you read first the forum rules not that you've done something wrong, but just to inform you
1. you must be ROOTED: here is a guide on how to root it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505172
2. download your ROM and send it to your SD Card
3. Go to recovery mode
Go to recovery mode and wipe cache/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache (which is found in Advanced)
Here is how to get there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKJQjxOCtkg
4. Install your ROM!
Now it's time to install your ROM, in your main homescreen in your recovery mode, you can find "install zip from sd card" click on it, and then choose the .zip file you downloaded (your ROM)
hope this helps
cheers
Hello People.. i Joined XDa like 1 or 2 months ago.. i installed some roms and discovered why i get some random bootloops when installing a rom.. (if you done all ok and you get a bootloop follow this steps)
-Wipe Data --> Yes
-Wipe cache --> Yes
*Mounts and Storage* Format System --> Yes
*Advanced* Wipe Dalvik Cache --> Yes
Now Flash the ROM.. if The ROM have a CWM SuperSu Fix in Addons Flash it Without Rebooting! then Reboot.. after you boot to Home... complete Wizard and reboot again (not to CWM)
Now Install CWM (if u have locked bl now u dont have anymore CWM recovery.. so install it using the app called x-parts)
Boot to CWM and install add ons 1 by 1.. (for example.. Lockscreen, then reboot.. then flashlight, reboot.. camera fix, reboot.. etc..)
This way is needed in roms Like HyperBeamNewEra or HyperBeamNewTime (because khemaras told to flash lockscreen after rom and that cause many bootloops! if u check out last comments of NewTime all of them say Bootloops at LWW.. and i tried this way and i got no bootloop at locked bl.)
Hope you enjoyed the Post!

2- sorry for the bad english.. i dont speak it well.. if you didnt understand it well pm me and i will try to explain it better.
I was having problem installing some roms but as i was not formatting the system....thanks for this thread...now they work like charm....pressed thanks
I wouldn't recommend to format system before installing a rom:
1. Formatting system should be defined in the updater-script, so there's no need to do it manually
2. Formatting system can cause a status 7 (?) error, because of a getprop line. It tries to get the device's information, but because of formatting system it can't read the information and you get an error.
I would just format system, if it's necessary according to the thread of the rom :good:
