Hi guys,
am hoping someone here already has one of these and can convince me it is worth the expense.
I have just got my evo3d and have ordered an otterbox commuter case. I also need to get a windscreen mount and i am in and out of my vehicle alot during the day so taking the phone out of the case will not be an option.
I know this because with my old hd2 i ended up discarding the case. Then on numerous occasions dropping the phone so i want to find an alternative.
After doing abit of research i have come up with the possible solution of either a ram mount. from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAP-B-166...shield-Phone-Mount-/260725742907#ht_539wt_698
or a slip grip from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SlipGrip-...erBox-Defender-HV-/400229693449#ht_2692wt_746
Has anyone tried these or have a better option? Does the ram mount allow access to the charging port and does it truly grip the phone within the otterbox case?
cheers.
I have a slip grip for my evo 3d and otterbox. I did have to take my dremel to the slip grip for the charging port as I wanted to be able to remove the phone from the mount without having to unplug the charging cord first. If you normally unplug your charger before removing from the mount, then no dremel is needed. Otherwise, it goes in and out of the mount with ease and holds the phone, in the otterbox, very well.

top stuff mate thanks. I presume a dremel is a drill of some kind? but as you say if it can be removed without the need then fabulous.
May i ask did you look at the ram mount? Was there a reason why you picked the slip grip? Also how strong is the grip on the windscreen? My old one was forever falling off.
Again thanks for taking the time to reply.
edit - after abit more decsion making i think the slipgrip does look a better option as it is purpose fit for our phone and case. thanks again for your advice.

The slipgrip offers many mounting options and case options for the 3d, that is why I chose it. I use the air vent mount personally, works fine, no issues. Had it over 6 months now.

perfect! i have emailed the ebay seller to ensure he will deliver to me here in the uk and that the item comes with the windscreen mount. As long as it does i am taking your advice and buying the slipgrip.
Cheers for the help.
just wanted to add that i bought the slipgrip windscreen mount thanks to SteelH recommendations. I paid for the heavier duty version http://www.slipgripcarmounts.com/SlipGrip-Car-Mount-HTC-EVO-3D-4G-OtterBox-Commuter-HV_p_99091.html
it really is a big old lump and the phone and case sits inside wonderfully. It also really feels sturdy once fitted to the screen. My old one kept falling off.
I have not figured out how to turn the phone from portrait into landscape. Not sure if that is possible whilst attached to the screen or not?
Either way i would really recommend this mount and again thanks to SteelH for the heads-up.
It says it swivels 360 degree's so you should be able to do that.

yeah i might try it monday. I had a go at getting it to swivel when i first attached it to the screen but it would not budge and i was reluctant to start getting oto heavy with it in case it worked lose from the screen. My old mount had a terrible habit of flying accross the dashboard whenever my phone was inside.
well i may be thick but i cannot see how it swivels. Like i say not an issue to me as i prefer it in portrait mode anyway.
I just received this from Amazon...

not sure if i like it...it seams secure, but i had a problem with it on a bike ride today and i think im going to send it back...anyone have a good one that they recomend?
i thought about getting one for my bike also, but then for some reason i don't think i want my expensive phone getting crushed if i happen to fall over or hit something.
surprisingly that never went through my head with my iphone.
Trident offers a bike mount for their Kraken case, which should be released soon. I've used RAM mounts before, very very sturdy.

I ride with my wifes old Aria in an Otterbox (REAL Otterbox) + standard 4 hole GPS mount motorcycle mount. It stays in place pretty well, but no way to interact with the phone, so I gotta leave the screen on, and the box isn't that clear, has some amount of frosting to it, although I haven't had any problems reading through it.
Plusses are it's waterproof and pretty bomb proof, so if I get caught in the rain or wreck, the phone should be safe. It'd really be nice to be able to interact with it though. I have to stop, pop the latches, open the lid...
The Note actually fits in it if I take off the phone case, but I don't think I'll be riding with it like that.
Anywho, if you want, I'll look up the exact things I got.
I don't think it's a good idea to mount a bike on the Note. It's not that big...

Do you have a link for the mount? (and the case)
Thanks
I got the Samsung Car Holder for the Note which holds it very securely . It seems to have the same ball connector. Maybe it would fit together with the handle holder instead of the Window thingy. Just a thought.

If you buy the trident kraken ams case there is a bike clip attatchment accessory you can buy seperately on the website! !

Those squeezable mounts suck. Sorry for your loss. I have used these, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cycling-Bik...962477?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3375756eed. From ebay, and Asia. But they have worked out. You can find different sellers for them.

The note with a VERY THIN case will fit in this Otterbox. A normal silicon or TPU it wont' fit, or will just barely fit. And remember, you can't interact with the phone in the case! Although with a dremel, you could possibly have a pretty tough case that you could touch though, although it'd obviously be less bomb-proof and you'd have to do something for water resistance. As-is, it's almost bombproof and waterproof.

http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-GN032-AMPS-Motorcycle-Connection-Compatible/dp/B003FMUP14
To attach I just templated the holes on the case with the mount, drilled. To maintain water resistance, I put a piece of an old intertube between the mount and the case, just a bit of silicone, and screwed down tight. I've dunked it in in the sink, nothing. The screws on the inside I put duct tape over just in case anything rubs, but I put together a piece of cut-up foam in there to secure the Aria I normally use in the case.
Anyone found a bicycle mount for this phone? I found a website which showed a Zixtro mount, and stated the HTC Titan would fit, but the inner diameters were just a few mm's short.
I've seen zip up bags a lot, but I want a bit more protection just incase I fall off. I've also tried looking for mounts for the Titan's sister phones but couldn't find one for them either
This is the only pain if you don't have an iphone, you don't have the huge choice of accessories
I recently picked up a Scosche BM01 at Fry's, and so far it's working great with my Titan.
I would get an arm strap that would mount onto the Titan if you're going to be riding bike with it.
As of late I've been without a car and as a result I've had to ride my bicycle everywhere I need to get. When it was a bit colder out, I had pockets a-plenty, but as of the past few weeks it's been too damn hot for a jacket or even cargo shorts. I usually tend to wear athletic shorts to and from my destination, but the pockets just let my phone flop all around all willy nilly and it's gotten to the point I'm a bit concerned that the constant slapping against my leg might eventually lead to some phone problems or, at the very least, screen problems. Plus, pulling my phone in and out of my pocket while riding can be very bothersome.
That said, I'm looking into getting a bicycle mount. I've found a few different setups, but I'm a bit concerned as I've got my phone in a Trident Electra case and it makes my phone shape...unique. It's about twice the thickness of a regular Dx2 and I really don't want to have to remove the case every time to mount it to my bike, plus I'd feel even less safe with it mounted that way as the path I take too and from work are none to gentle and IF the phone were to come out of the holder it could be very bad indeed.
I've looked at a couple universal solutions, but for some there appears to be a consensus that you'll need to use a strap in conjunction with the holder to make sure it's held solidly in place and others don't really appear to support anything more than the typical phone's thickness.
The two mounts I'm considering are:
The GN032+WPCS-IP2 Universal Handlebar Mount
OR
The RAM Universal Bike Mount
The GN032 seems like it'd be better suited for the elements, and the thickness of my phone. BUT I've been reading several good reviews of the RAM mount system and it seems like it'd really be able to hold up against the ****ty sidewalks in my city. I'm leaning more towards this unit, but I just can't find anyone who has used a thick case like the Electra in combination with this unit, the closest I've read so far is people with Otterboxes.
So, anyone have any experience with these or any other handlebar mount kits?

I have been looking at the RAM Universal. I have used RAM mounts in my vehicle for various devices and have always been pleased with them. Just my $0.02 (adjusted for inflation, of course!).
They have a Universal AquaBox mount and have pictures of a Droid X in it. http://www.ram-mount.com/Gallery/motoroladroidxmotorcyclemount/tabid/4067/Default.aspx
Also, after doing a little more research, the Universal X Grip Mount is spring loaded and I don't think will take bumps as well as the AquaBox.
Ciao!

Whoa! Dunno how I missed the aqua box. That thing is massive!
With your other RAM mounts did they use the X grip? What devices did you use?

Never used the X-Grip. I have a universal mount for my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx. It's never fallen off my windshield and holds the GPS well. I have also used a modified laptop mount to hold my laptop in my vehicle, before I purchased the Garmin. That was pretty cool... I don't have any pictures of it, though.
Ciao!
I used the arkon GN032 on my old motorcycle when the speedo light went out. It work perfectly for what I used it for, a night time digital speedo. I did use it a couple times for daytime navigation, and it worked fine, though sun glare was an issue; it was on a naked bike, however.
I've struggled to find a phone holder that works well with the size of my note 3 in a Trident Kraken AMS case.
This one however is inexpensive and works well http://www.wilko.com/car-accessories/rockland-mp3sat-nav-holder/invt/0345172?VBMST=car phone holder
I thought I'd post it up in case it helps anyone.

I love ProClip's holders. You select the custom mount for your car, and then the custom mount for you phone. I've owned several brands of custom clips throughout the years, and I've never been happier.

After having tried several car mounts, I have come to a point where I do not want any snake-type car mount - the ones with extensible, adjustable arm ... with time, and car vibrations, they do not really stick in place, and dangle around a little bit.
Lately I happened to pick a glass screen cover from xtreme guard where they offered promotional Flozu car mount + a 90% discount coupon ... at the end, it was really a deal for the both of them..
I have been using the flozu mount since around 1 month now, very solid, top notch. secure suction locking mechanism, seems to hold much stronger to the windshield than my previous ones. The absense of the extensible arm made it VERY stable in terms of vibration and permanent "dangle" . It holds my note 3 firmly (not strongly) between its pliers, and manipulating the plier to open it is very easy - not complicated spring-loaded buttons to press - which get worse with time - which you see on other models. Seriously recommend.
Here is the link to the Flozu mount:
http://www.xtremeguard.com/product-p/car-mount-flozu.htm
mine came today (Flozu mount), fairly quick standard shipping delivery. I expect it'll do a very good job. At first I thought it was rather pricey ($49.99 USD) but then the 75% off discount code appeared -- can't find anything decent in the stores for $12.75! easy to mount to the windshield, nice firm grip of my unprotected S3 (countdown to upgrade: 3days). I'll update after having used it awhile.

I use mountek products. one of the most stable products to use by locking it in your cd slot or between the dash crevices. Great as some states may not allow suction cup mount on glass.

Airframe+
I use the Kenu Airframe+. Mounts in the vent and holds really well. Also works as a kick stand since it's small and you can carry it around with you with you're not in the car.
Best mounting system I've ever owned, but it's not cheap.

I use this holder for my Note 3. Its been good for a year now and cheap.
Can twist it for landscape or portrait and can hold any phone as most of us use cases on our phones it will fit any phone... One problem is your car will need to have strong vents and not too deep directors inside as the back will need to grip onto those.

I've had this mount for around 2 years and I love it! 2 of my friends got it after they saw mine.
I hardly ever use my CD changer but it still functions normally if you do.
In my car it puts the phone in the perfect place. Here's a few pictures of it in my car so you know how it looks.
Hello
In the past I used only phone specific holders like proclip. Works fine but expensive. Now the kids want to use the car too so I changed to an universal holder.
Now I use http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-HOL-UN7BU
Fits the s4 mini and my Note 3 too.
Besides the holder you'l need:
Ball base http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-202U
Arm: http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-201U-A (various lengths available).
Not cheap but you by it once.

I got a simple silicon mat on ebay - sticks like glue to the dash and you can just slap the phone on it (gently) and it sticks even on bumpy roads. And if it gets dusty you can just wash it in water - works brilliantly and cost me about $5
Looks a little like these but the 'bumps' aren't so noticeable on mine.
ProClip
I've used ProClip mounts in two different trucks with three different phones. I wouldn't use anything else. You buy the mount in two pieces - one piece for the vehicle, that's specific to the vehicle, and where in the vehicle you want to mount the phone. It has tabs that insert into the existing seams of your car's interior. No drilling, no bolts to unscrew, a very clean installation. The other piece you buy for the phone (or tablet, or GPS unit). They have many phone mounts each designed to fit a specific phone - as long as you don't have a case on it. They also have phone mounts that are more universal in nature for those that use a case. Any of the phone mounts will attach to any of the vehicle mounts.
It's expensive - each piece has cost me between $35 and $40, so around $75 when you first buy the system. But if you get a new phone, you only have to replace the phone mount. If you get a new car, you only have to replace the vehicle mount.
It's a premium mount. It holds your phone firmly in place, and it's a clean , professional looking installation. I think it's worth the cost.
For my Note 3, I've been using the Exogear ExoMount Touch -http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-touch-one-touch-car-mount-holder.html . The reusable adhesive pad works surprisingly well and it is a cinch putting in and taking out my Note 3, even in my Urban Armor Gear case. Simply put the phone into the mount and the arms snap close around the device, and to remove I just press the release buttons. Easy in, easy out.
The one issue I had was one one occasion the tightening nut cracking, but I think that was as a result of me carelessly over-tightening on one occasion. The company quickly sent me a free replacement, however.

Not sure where you are, but mine's been through some pretty hot days with the car parked in the sun and no problems. Silicon shouldn't melt - it melts around 1400ÂșC - if your car is getting that hot you'd have to be approaching the Sun I think. Maybe yours was plastic?
Just check my history on dx.com, and yes, it seems you were right, it was PVC, must say I didn't check that as it said made for car dashboard.
Anyway, just be careful what you buy.

I second the RAM mounts. I use the cupholder version, then the ball arm, and the X clip. I can even swap out the attachment with my medium/large RAM holder that fits a nexus 7, or my large holder that fits an ipad air. Ram mounts aren't cheap, but they're versatile and built to last. I'll never need to buy another mount system again, unless I find a really oddball device in the future and need a new attachment for the Ram.
I finally found the perfect mount for my taste. Universal + with charge function.
http://www.1a-pc-shop.de/shop/hr-30417-universal-smartphone-charging-dock.html
You cand adjust the x and the z axis of the power connector holder at the bottom. There are 5 adapters included for different cables. Works very well with my usb 3.0 car charger. Silicon case no problem.
Now I just slide in the Note 3 and it charges. And this should work for many devices to come.
