Now I am using the FeraLab v4 ROM,a quite perfect ROM.
I'd like to change the background picture in the Settings( also Phonebook, sms, etc),then I replaced the "semc_bg.png"and"semc_bg_bright.png" both in framework-res.apk and SemcGenericUxpRes.apk.
However I failed. The backgroud turned black.
Adding more:
I have found the reason why the background turned black.
It is right to replace the semc_bg.png in the SemcGenericUxpRes.apk.
I used another picture to replace it and the background changed.
And the cause was that I chose a translucent picture to replace it and the translucent picture could not be translucent in the settings/phone/sms/etc.
In some ROMs,in the settings etc the background is translucent and we can see the wallpaper. It is nice.
Besides replacing a translucent picture, what else should we do so that we can see the wallpaper in the settings? Could you please tell me?
(Sorry,my English is poor and I have so many questions.^_^ )

What did you use to change the file in the framework? Maybe it's a repackaging problem?
I had this problem when I played with mine. It worked when I used 7zip to open the apk, copied the .png to desktop, edited that file in photoshop, then dragged it back in, closed 7zip and adb pushed it back to phone, rebooted and it worked

Use root explorer in your phone, i always use it to modify my framework, systemui and genericuxpres and it works fantastic
Open root explorer
Go into your system folder
Select to Extract the both framework and generic
Extract them again, you will end up with 2 folders of the same names in the folder called extracted in your sd
Replace the pics and whathever u need to replace in both the /res folders
After youre done, select the folder called framework and scroll to zip this folder then select go to zip or something(it will popup)
Find framework.zip and rename it to framework.apk
Then either paste it in some random flashable zip or push it to system and reboot(i always use the first method)
Repeat with Genericuxpres.apk
And youre done, always works for me, and ive always themed my phone this way(battery mods, signal, lockcreen, etc)
I also replace icons, mod the launcher and everything right from the phone
I only use a computer if i need a new rom
PS, dont replace semc bg bright only the other one

It is a domestic software named Haozip.
But I used it to change the icons of battery and signal and it worked.
I have got the 7zip as well. Let me have a try.
Thank you all!

Ok new plan, extract only the SemcgenericUxpres.apk from my zip and put it into another flashable zip and flash it straight
That apk is the same across all roms so it wont be a problem, but make a backup just in case

Its not different, SemcgenericUxpres.apk is the same across all stock based roms, devs dont mess too much with that file so its practically the same for everybody except for the background

How do you change the conversation bubble colors in the stock text messaging app? I know I could just use GoSMS or Handcent, but I like how clean the stock app is and the fact that it works well. I just dont like that "peach" color...doesn't match anything.
Use handcent SMS its free in the mareket and you can customize everything from bubble colors to fonts to the color of the notification icon

@jhild352 I am aware of the many different free options that I could use, just wanted to know if I could "theme" the stock one.
Yes I am using GB.
There arent settings to change it. You will need to manually do it. If you really are dedicated enough, then extract the apk and replace the desirable drawables.

You can find the images in the framework. They're located in the blur-res.apk in the drawable-hdpi folder. The images are called msg_in_item_bg and msg_out_item_bg. They are .9 pngs so you'll have to decompile the blur-res.apk to edit the images. If you don't want to edit them yourself you can maybe find a theme that includes the blur-res.apk and replace your current apk with that one.

1. Download the theme and place it on your internal sd card.
2. Reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery.

4. Flash and Reboot
5. First boot will take a while as dalvik cache refreshes. Be patient.

Go Launcher Ex lets you use custom dock icons also. Looks great, just one thing though. The dialer got themed but when you make a phone call that part didn't get themed. Could it be because I was using the blurphone.apk from a different theme? I even took the blurphone.apk from this theme and manually put it in the sytem/apps folder and set the permissions but it still uses the old themed one.

You might need to download an icon pack, or with go launcher, (which is what I use) you can steal the icons, recreate them in photoshop and then use them in your dock. When you long press on the icons, you can replace them with "Custom Icon".
As for your battery, it sounds like you might need to recalibrate it. You might need to go into charge mode (when you see the battery charging while the phone is off) and then wait till it hits 100%, reboot into CWM recovery, or Bootstrap, and wipe battery stats. I don't know if just using the Battery Calibrator app from market is enough to fix this problem. I had the same thing happen when I was flashing ROMs.

I'm asking this because I would like to replace the exDialer icon (green one) with the default JB telephone one (blue receiver).. but I don't know where I can locate the JB telephone app icon..
I think you may have had the right image, but I believe you may have to decompile then recompile the app properly to do change that. Google should produce results for a guide to do this as I have seen one recently

Which one do you want? If I have it I will drop box it for you
To replace images you don't have to decompile just drop them in /res/*whichever folder it goes in* with a store compression value.
Only when you need to edit XML's do you need to decompile and recompile.

that's wonderful.. at last.. thanks so much! :good::good::highfive::victory:
You dont need to decompile to change .pngs...just open the .apk with winrar and go to res/drawable-xhdpi and replace what you want to
the other drawable folders arent used in the S3 - they are overwritten by the xhdpi folder
Edit, couldnt type it fast enough...!!
And that should be dropped in appname.apk/res/mipmap-xhdpi or hdpi or mdpi whichever one is for your dpi.

/edit By the way, this method (WinRar or muCommander) also works for editing update.zip. This means you can customise the rom (add/remove system apks, change the boot animation etc) before you flash it.
The one thing I'm having trouble with is the green bars on the bottom of the notification toggles. I can't find where they're at.

In a root file explorer (I use esfile) move the systemui.apk to system>app ... It will ask you to replace the existing file ..chose yes. Then reboot. (It will start force closing ...don't panic...work through the warnings and reboot).

This Guide Is For On Screen Buttons And How To Activate/Deactivate Them, Resize And CustomizeThere Are Already Many Guides Out There Like This, But Many Do Not Know Them, So This Is To Ease Their Troubles
Requirements:
- Root
- Apktool
- If You Use Apktool, A good App To Sign Apps on android is ZipSigner From PlayStore ZipSigner
There Are 3 Ways To Activate/Deactivate On Screen Buttons,1 Very Easy Way, 1 Easy Way , And The Other Is Not Too Hard But Is Longer ( But Better )
- App Method ( Easiest Way)
- Build.prop Method ( Easy Way )
- Framework-res Method ( Longer Way )
[SIZE="+1"]App Method[/SIZE]
Just Use This Simple App By Soheil_rf
Thank Him If It Was Useful
This App Just Utilizes the Build.prop Method
[APP][Universal] On Screen Button Enabler
[SIZE="+1"]Build.prop Method[/SIZE]
Enable Via Build.prop
To Enable Via Build.prop, Just Navigate To The /System Partition And Mount It
Now Open And Edit The Build.Prop And Add This Small Line To The End
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
And Reboot, This Will Activate Your On Screen Buttons
Please Remember To leave A Empty Line At The End Of The Build.prop

Yep there is
Will add in OP later
Decompile systemUI
Navigate to /res/layout
Open navigation_bar.xml
In the second or first line there will be a code like android:background
It will state the color within apostrophes
Change the Color to
#88000000
Or
#5a000000

That won't make the navibar fully transparent, it requires some smali modification, there are guides about it but they're all for jb, and i couldn't find a way to make them work in ics.
