Orignally the tablet I was given is a 4G LTE data. (couldnt do anything since I didnt pay for the plan yet. So I found a way to bypass the beginning and now I use nothing but wifi.
So if i want to install certain roms, should I use 4G or Wifi roms?

whats the beginning...from my understanding you can flash wifi roms on 3G tabs..just lose 3G...soooo i'm guessing you can do the same here.
The beginning, sorry, Is the part where you have to touch the android to activate your device. I bypassed that and now it work on wifi only unless i factory reset the tablet. So will putting 4g roms/wifi roms affect my connection to wifi?

i have barnacle tether.
i have done the prop.build change
and i have the all of the APNs installed.
will i be able to use the lapdock on my H+ with out getting a tethering plan?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12000987&postcount=86
someone said it did but as i don't have one i cannot be certain
Also, if you use the tethering for a lot of data (many GBs per month), AT&T might flag your account as likely being used for unauthorized tethering. A number of users have reported receiving formal warnings from AT&T. See this thread: AT&T Tethering Crackdown
now im contemplating the lapdock.
i shall just get a Tablet instead and tether to that using barnacle instead.
they cant prove im tethering to a tablet since its android.
I have the option of getting a 10.1 3g version and looking around the forum it seems most roms are cooked for non 3g devices.I dont plan to get a new data plan so dont need the 3g basically. so here is my Q:
will flashing a non 3G rom only disable the 3G capabilites (yet wifi works) or will it not function at all (the whole device)?!
I appreciate any help.
If you read the dev forums, you'd see that yes, in fact, wifi ROMs disable 3g but otherwise work on 3g devices.
Hey all -
My friend just bought an HTC Rezound to with a 2GB (4GB due to their current promo) data plan. He plans on using it as his main internet connection at his house over the summer because up there, they don't have cable internet or DSL available. Anyone have any input on what the best setup (ROM wise and app wise) would be for him to achieve this? I'm a little worried because I've seen some people saying Verizon can charge you for teathering (I'm currently on Sprint and have never had this problem on a rooted device) even if you use are rooted and use a 3rd party app. Is that true? If he has a custom rooted ROM, and uses something like android wi-fi teather, he should be fine right? How could they tell the data is going to a desktop vs. being displayed through his phones browser?
Anyone?

I really don't think you can tether for free with any of the ROMs out now. I just came from a droid 3 and could tether after hacking the radio, but haven't seen anything like that for the rezound. Tethering does come in handy once in a while. Anyone have any success tethering for free?

I believe there are at least two threads that deal with this at xda, so search "rezound wifi tether" on Google and you should get many hits. Search is your friend.
However, the long and the short is, GB ROMs will allow adhoc wifi tethering and ICS ROMs allow infrastructure tethering.
If you don't understand the difference, I wouldn't suggest messing with your friend's Rezound until you've done some research.

There are currently no wifi hotspot hacks to allow what your friend is looking for. If he's smart he'll pay for wifi hotspot and get unlimited data in the process(plenty of info on that). Otherwise as stated above, ad-hoc tether is available for GB and infrastructure tether for ICS.

So are you saying that VZW can tell if you use ad-hoc or infrastructure tether? I canceled my mhs because it was basically useless. Haven't asked for a refund since I figured I was getting what I paid for a little at a time and I thought they didn't know...

Nope, I was just saying that there isn't a hack for free MHS. You can only do 1-to-1 device tethering without MHS. As far as we currently know ad-hoc and infrastructure tethering is still not detectable.
I know At&t was pulling "We know you are tethering" claims with all the iPhone users when I was with them. That said I don't see how they could claim this with android with the option to use Firefox+Phony to change how you see the webpage.
I tether all the time for free
Has anyone tried to use verizons' mobile hotspot with this yet? Every time I have tested it out it reduces the signal from 4G to 3G and never returns to 4G until I deactivate the hotspot. Anyone know if this is a design in the phone or maybe something I am doing wrong?
I'm new to verizon like as of two days ago and Ive been with sprint. Does verizon make you pay an extra fee to use the tethering service like sprint because i can turn on the hotspot and connect to it and its says its using 3G but i dont get any internet service to my tablet.
To keep things relevent:

The way I understand it is if you can access the service then it is part of your plan. Which is nice so you dont accidentally use it and get charged a boat load. I just moved to a share everything plan and was told by a rep that mobile hotspot comes included, which seems to be true since I am able to use is, even if only on 3G.
At the same time, I am able to use the mobile hotspot through a Rezound on the same plan with 4G all day long. That is why I am curious if it is the phone limiting my connectivity while using hotspot.
I am currently testing the mobile hotspot as I am writing you. I figured I would try it out since I've not used it as of yet on my new DNA. 4G is working and intact. No downgrade to 3G, and everything is speedy as expected. I would check your signal strength or other possible issues you may have with reception, as if I understand things correctly, a 4G connection will degrade to 3G in bad connection areas. Maybe your signal strength isn't acceptable? Just a thought. Maybe someone here has a better understanding of the underlying operations of what your particular issue could be. Good luck...

I guess I figured out what my problem was. I just restarted my phone and tested again and it works perfectly. I dont know what its malfunction was but its all good now.
Hey all,
What's the best / more reliable means to tether on the AT&T HTC One m8?
I've been trying with the Wifi Tether app but no luck on the right config yet. Also, it's probably worth mentioning that I'm on the Skyfall ROM (fully rooted, s-off, etc.)
Thanks!

What's "built in" is pretty reliable. You might consider concentrating on getting the "built in" to work instead of adding another layer of complexity. Which firmware is "skyfall" based on? (perhaps give a link to the dev thread.)

Are you using the stock AT&T firmware? If so, then your account has to be provisioned for tethering. There are ways around this... Also, depending on which data plan you have with AT&T, tethering might be included.

I'm using the Skyfall ROM so I don't think so... (unsure really).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702074
I'll play with it some more - I had made the assumption that if I used the "stock / built-in" feature there would be a charge for it and it sounds like that's not the case.
Thanks guys!
Testing
So I'm doing some testing using the built in app and it appears that while it works, I think AT&T might be throttling the connection.
I tested using a Bluetooth tether connection as well as using a Wifi Tether.
I'm both cases, I'm getting rougly 1.5-2 mbps download and 1 mbps upload speeds in my tests. Despite when I'm using the bluetooth tether having access to a Wifi network that's capable of 100 mbps up and down.
I'm using a 2013 macbook air to test with which has Bluetooth v4.2.
I believe it's throttled because I'm seeing nearly the same rates with both bluetooth and Wifi tethering. I definitely know the Wifi connection is much, much faster. For example, if I disconnect the Tether and connect directly to the Wifi AP, I get 96 mbps down and 47 mbps up.
Is there a mod to remove the throttle or an alternative?

What is installed on the phone is not going to dictate whether AT&T finds out if you are tethering or not. The stock AT&T ROM will simply block tethering if you don't have a tethering plan. Tethering hack or simply installing any non-AT&T based ROM circumvents this. I just use the stock WiFi hotspot application.
Can't say whether they throttle tethered data or not. But my gut feeling is no. And again, any such measures would likely be network based, and probably can't be circumvented simply by using a different tethering app.
What is your data speed when not tethering (measure on the phone)?
AT&T's way for detecting tethering isn't based on what app you use for it... It's based on packet header examination. If you only use it occasionally, they usually won't look. (I used it for years without being detected... but only very lightly.)
