Why didn't you root using CF-Root or Siyah or SpeedMod, or any other custom Kernel that just comes with CWM recovery?

Don't use Rom Manager & CW Recovery together. Rom Manager tends to break CW Recovery/cause bootloops if you have both installed so use one or t'other.

I can't seem to get Clockwork installed why I used Rom Manager in the first place, Never had an issue with it on any other device.
Just seemed easier to use it to flash recovery and then flash whatever rom I damn well pleased.

Your choice f around with an app that is known to have SGS2 problems or flash a rooted CWM kernel that works .

Siyah is good if you use gingerbread, great battery life, lots of kernel modules integrated (cifs, tun, etc.) DO NOT use Siyah with ICS based roms.

Yet another useless thread on a subject that has been discussed more times than anybody cares to remember. A quick and simple search would have given you the answer to your question.

Is Clockwork Mod Safe

I've been using AmonRA recovery since I got the Optimus in December and I am comfortable with it. I've tried out Miks port of CM7 and while it's great, i sorely miss the battery performance I was getting on Froyo with Void and running 824mhz stable without any problems. That and bluetooth is sorely missed. I want to give OpenOptimus a shot, but I am extremely weary of trying to install Clockwork Mod again, because the one time I attempted it I ended up bricking my phone. Thankfully, the guy at the Tmo kiosk in the mall just gave me a new one no questions asked. I wouldn't be so hesitant to install CWM on my phone if I could install the img just like I did with AmonRA instead of trusting Rom manager to do it for me.
I don't suggest you to flash recovery via ROM manager. IMHO ClockworkMod is better, has much more options. If you'll flash the 3.1.0.0 version using my flashable zips you won't brick anything. And remember to give openOptimus a shot, you won't regret it

I'm not sure I understand correctly. I thought that clockworkmod was the recovery that is installed by Rom Manager. All of the instructions for installing CWM simply say to install Rom Manager. Ultimately, I do aim to install OpenOptimus but I need to switch from running AmonRA recovery to CWM recovery. And what exactly do you mean by flashable zip? I installed AmonRA using the ADB and an .img file. it there is a thread anywhere here that clearly details the process to install CWM recovery, please point me to it.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197 - download and flash ZIP from recovery. Done.
Sorry about that. I didn't realize that you could actually flash a recovery from within the recovery. I just switched to CWM and flashed OpenOptimus. Waiting for first boot as I'm typing this.

yes a stated above u can just enter into recovery and flash any recovery u want from the link pointed out above and its safe ,since u already have recovery installed u dont need to flash recovery via rom manager and just remember that any backup taken from any recovery would be restored using the same recovery. To clear all doubts the problem has been solved and installing recovery from rom manger works flawlessly now. Note:Its advisable to use rommanager for ppl not having recovery installed just download the latest rom mager and flash choosig ur phone type.
slightly off topic, but does anyone know where I can get the T-Mobile branded P509 kdz stock firmware just in case I end up needing to roll back to stock? I can't seem to find it anywhere, the_ERROR's thread on howto is closed and the links don't work anymore.

nope its not safe at all using rom manager ~
I flashed CWM and my friend died a few days later.
So no it's not safe.
For me there are no problems with clockworkmod and RomManager. Flashed cwm via RomManager and everything is fine here.

it not about using rom manger for flashing rom ,it just to get the cwm recovery and then going into recovery and using it from there.
Many had problems flashing rom from clockwork so that not advisable but installing cwm is fine 100% sure
M happy with CWM
Don't use tricks like ROM Manager... It's just matter of learning to use a recovery, not that difficult.. just IMHO
You just need to use ROM manager Once to get recovery. After that you can delete the program and enjoy the CWM recovery.
I have been there, I have done it, You do want it
CWM works beautifully without problems..
I use rom manager just to reboot to recovery, as i am too lazy to use the 3 button combo to goto recovery.
Flashed ROMs and zips with CWM. 100 % safe untill now..
The new updared Rom Manager has solved that issue.

How much I've learned in just a month!
I can't believe I had to ask that question. I know now that there are numerous ways to flash recoveries. My personal preference is to do it manually using the adb.

No, it is not 100% fine, in fact it lacks any sanity checks whatsoever.
Just flash CWM through your current recovery and you'll be fine. It's by far the safest method. If you flash through ROM Manager and after reboot you get stuck in fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015332 ... happened to me, unbricked it with some slight changes to the tutorial. Nothing important.
PS: If you don't use Rom Manager you can always do a $su then #reboot recovery in a terminal (Downloadable from market) to reboot directly to recovery.

Install CWM with ROM Manager?

So Im Rooted. Can I ? And Should I Install CWM using the rom manager program? Also is there a specific CWM version for the Fascinate ? Is installing with Odin better? Where do I find the diffrent versions of CWM avialable?
Facinate seems to need ClockWorkMod Version 2.5.1.2
Facinate seems to need ClockWorkMod Version 2.5.1.2 or it will hang, (as there are two separate language barriers and it Version 3.x.x.x at this time can't communicate with the other language. See the Link Below for more Details).

Do not use rom manager at all. It does not work for the Fascinate. Also don't use anything from the link the previous poster provided. All the CWM's in that link are for the Epic 4G not the Fascinate. Most everything for the Fascinate is now written in Edify script so you have two options for a working CWM and both are better flashed in ODIN in my opinion:
CWM from times_infinity - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36791/CWM3_Voodoo.tar.md5
CWM from nemesis2all - http://www.multiupload.com/8VDE8GX69P
So IM going to assume that Rom manager is useless on the fascinate? I should be using odin for all rom management? Thank you for All the help Im learning so much! you guys Rock!
So are there any diffrences bettween the two CWM versions that are avialable ? And where do I Find info on both of them ?

Information on times_infinity's version can be found in his thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046905
The one from nemsis2all gets flashed to your phone when you flash the OTB kernel. There is no thread for nemesis2all's CWM. It is basically the same as the one from times_infinity except it includes the ability to enable and disable the 100mhz step when using an OTB kernel. If you are not using an OTB kernel from nemesis2all you may want to stick with the CWM from times_infinity.
If you are unfamiliar with using CWM here is a great guide on how to use it including screenshot visual aides:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...-clockworkmod-recovery-w-screen-captures.html
ROM Manager has been useless for many months now for the Fascinate.
I only use Odin to flash recoveries and to flash back to stock.
CWM is what you use to flash custom ROMs by using the "install zip from sdcard" option, and then navigating to the zip file of the ROM you downloaded. Just use regular USB mass storage to get the zip file on your phone or just use your phone to download the ROM.
We dont use rom manager much.but we will once we get Official CM7 support.

I use ROM Manager to boot into CWM. the older version of CWM that is brought up when I do the 3 button boot doesn't work with CM7.. is that correct?
When trying to look for new ROMS on Rom Manager - it wants to install CWM, though I already have it, obviously.. I'd do it, but there is no option for the i500 Fascinate..
I'm so very confused.
I use rom manager to boot into recovery and I'm running CWM 4.0.1.0 (blue text) with no problems
I can vouch for not using RM on the Fascinate. I tried that, used it to flash CWM, everything seemed legit, though CWM didn't want to work right. I looked around, saw that RM is useless, and decided to use some other CWM file through Odin. Had a near-brick and had to restore everything from stock. Killed my sunday afternoon, that's for sure.

Question about cwm

Hello.. I installed Rom manager and accidentally installed the cwm grocery mode that it offers and now when i use the cwm app it always boots via the Rom manager. How do i make it so it reboot into the blue cwm app's recovery mod?

ROM Manager ...
Ok, just re-flash the kernel containing the CWM recovery mode you want to have.
P.S.: I am running on RedPill kernel and the red recovery mode is also nice ;-)
But it is your decision to take the blue pill. And everything will stay as it is now.

I installed to factory firmware than flashed with kernel that used to give me blue but now it just still gives me the orange? What do?
Sent from my GT-I9100T using XDA App
Don't use Rom Manager/CWM together, I.E use/install one or the other. Rom Manager is notorious for breaking CWM and/or causing bootloops. Install one & stick to use it if you want to avoid problems. If you want to use CWM, uninstall Rom Manager.

[Q] Update CWM on incorrect kernel

I am having a little bit of trouble trying to solve a problem with CWM. I rooted my phone earlier last year and decided to try some roms lately but I am now in a bad position as CWM is telling me I have a different kernel and I am unable to get the option to restore my previous rom backup. I keep hearing to use Odin which I previously used to root my phone, to update CWM in the kernel to the latest version. Normally when I update the kernel it is quite simple - just install from the zip on sd, but Odin is a complete mess to understand. I am probably approaching this incorrectly. What can I do to restore to my previous CWM backup?
Try using ROM Manager to flash CWM, this might solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply. Do I flash the CWM.zip (current version) as a rom in this app or do I use a different option?

ROM Manager - Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery - Samsung Galaxy S2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
That did not seem to work. Rom Manager stops working and after awhile it asks if I want to wait or stop the program.
Is there a way to get this to work through odin? I am unable to reset to the default firmware as some files are irretrievable now.

Do not use rom manager. Flash cf root kernel with odin and you'll have cwm recovery.

When you installed rom manager it installed clockwork mod. (cwm)
You use this recovery instead from now on.
You can backup your rom or flash a new one or flash a modem or kernel..
There are loads of guides on this check one out if your not sure what to do..
Good luck
