Hey all,
I have a very odd problem that is actually apparent in the HTC Desire forums by 2 other people. (found using the search that comes up when starting a new thread)
When I use my phone on WiFi the data is automatically turned off (I'm assuming because WiFi takes priority, however when WiFi drops, the data does not reconnect and I am left with just the reception bars for SMS/Calling.
To fix this I must either cycle aeroplane mode or go to Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Vodafone Internet and then when I'm in the editing screen for that APN the data reconnects.
I have tried making a shortcut directly to the APN settings using LauncherPro activities shortcut but the data will only reconnect if I take the long way (or cycle aeroplane mode as it is a quicker fix)
Please help, this is very annoying as my data doesn't reconnect when I leave my home WiFi in the mornings until I notice it half way through the day.. missing many important emails
Thanks in advance.

u could use a widget to toggle the APN (extenedcontrols)
but i had the same problem on my old Desire from Telstra until it was updated to Froyo and then i never had the problem again.
What firmware version are you running? Also are you running Gingerblur, gladatrix or stock?
1.57 with gingerblur. Thanks for the tip about toggling the apn I will try that soon

I have a evo view 4g and its not in service. Ide like to save battery by completely disabling the 3g/4g support. Is there a cwm package or something in the system I could remove to disable the radio?
If you just un-check mobile data it turns the 3g/4g radio off..

I run my View in airplane mode and then just manually turn the WiFi on and off.
No it still searches for signal thats what the bars are on the status bar. So in essence its still using power to search for a cell signal to connect to. Doing that stops data connection but it doesnt turn the radio off. You can do that on a phone but going through dial info thing. On our tablet you cant just do that it has no dialer.

It helps if you use the Quote function so we know to whom you are replying.
Look, in airplane mode my View does not search for signals. Airplane mode has to stop the radio, that is what it is for. I'll take a look at my View tonight, but I don't think I have any bars on my status bar, since I keep it in airplane mode all the time.
EDIT: If the radio is indeed still on, HTC has a serious problem in integrating hardware and Android.
Ok, I'm on my view now and there is no signal strength icon. Turn on airplane mode to shut down the modem.

I jus got my brand new NEO V.. It's still unrooted..!
I activated the gprs pack on my carrier i.e Airtel(I live in India)..
But on the 2nd day itself I started experiencing gprs problem..
Even though my gprs is turned on, the "E" signs with those up-down arrows are still appearing, but I can't access the internet after sometime..
The gprs works for sometime but then it stops working as if it gets tired..(Lol!!).. then I've to restart the phone, again turn on gprs, it works for sometime & then freezes..!!!!
All my APNs are correctly set..
Whats the problem and whats the solution for it..??
All help is appreciated..
Can you test your SIM card in another phone? If the same SIM card have problems in a different phoje then th probpem os related to your provider. Then instead of rebooting the phone just swith to airplane mode and then turn off airplane mode, this way the phone will register again. I had similar issue some time ago with a Nokia phone, problem was solved after switching provider.
If you have a very old SIM card it will be a good idea requesting a new one.

Have u tried to simply disable and enable the "Data Enabled" setting on "Settings ---> Wireless & Networks ---> Mobile Networks" ?
This will make your phone to disconnect and reconnect to the GPRS network.
Some network operators could disconnect GPRS connections if there is no network activity during some time. So, check if the network disconnections are after some inactivity periods of time.
Yeah it should be operator problem I know airtel very well...:banghead:
"Switching to AIRPLANE mode" did work..
But still it works for sometime only..! the problem starts again..
I've to keep switching to airplane mode every now n then..!
Is there some other to permanently solve this problem..??:fingers-crossed:

The reason why airplane mode works is because it turns off the GSM radius and other stuff, switching the airplane mode on/off have the same effect as doing a reboot of the device. When you turn airplane mode Off the phone will register in the GSM network again,
It's your carrier's fault

Hey guys my s3 is great except every night when I get home I need to manually go into my mobile network settings and set it to GSM rather than Auto. Reason for this is at home at night my 3G drains my battery immensely. I'm currently running omega 27.9 with root but this also happened on stock.
I'd like to find a way to either set it up by toggle through a widget, or through taster somehow. This is different from just turning off 3G data because the voice component will still search for the 3G network, I want to find a way to actually set voice and data to GSM hopefully automatically (perhaps screen off for 10 minutes?)
I had look at tasker but it could only toggle the data network.
Thanks!

I think HD widgets has a switch widget to toggle between 2G and 3G.
Go to Settings>Mobile Networks>Network Mode>GSM

When I am at home on wifi, and even with "mobile data" turned off, I still have a 4G LTE icon in my status bar. Does this mean the cellular data radios are still on and drawing power? If so, how can I truly turn off the cellular data radios (but keep the cell radio for voice on)?
Note: I did see the *#*#4636#*#* trick, but I'm hoping for something much simpler, ideally a toggle widget. My phone is rooted but I do not want a custom ROM.
(Apologies if this question has already been answered, but I wasn't able to find it through searching.)
It should do that automatically, mine does.
