Since the latest update I've been getting random reboots and my wifi does not stay connected when i take the prime out of sleep mode (i have the setting to always stay connected checked). i never had these problems before this new update. My wifi is also half as fast now. This device is stock, never rooted. Looks like the update is breaking some primes that were working fine before.

This is very bad news for everyone and I saw this coming... Instead of doing the right thing and replacing the defective Primes they come up with a crazy bandaid patch that underclocks and all kinda of other BS kills our battery life and now causes lockups on Primes that were fine......... Everyone who owns a Prime now only has one choice and thats to return these defective junk units for a refund.

Yea i was happy with it before this update but now i am having second thoughts, kinda sucks cause i love this device. I should have just kept my XOOM lol
I'm very upset about this. My prime has been one of the lucky ones, no problems since I got it. After the update yesterday i got many first random reboot. Not happy....

Yes this further proves there is hardware differences in some primes and now they are trying to find a magical firmware that will play nice with both.... not going to happen they and we are screwed time to return for refunds.
Well i feel for you guys that had bad luck. But seriously you guys think about returning a device because of one bad patch? Well go ahead... There's one thing i learned from having an apple device once (ipod touch back in the day).
There only one rule: You NEVER apply an update unless you're 100% sure what it does and if its bad or not (Barney says: "Unless she's hot" )
If the patch has bugs in it, it will be fixed. Soon. Asus is quite fast man^^ Apple for example usually needs like half a year to get a new firmware with bugfixes out. I sticked to iOS 3.x for one YEAR after 4.x was released because there were serious battery drain problems and other bugs with wifi connection with 4.x. Just to give some comparison with the company that is known for delivering perfect software...

that's fine when we can be sure a software/firmware fix will fix something but its been clearly obvious ASUS has thrown different hardware in Primes and or defective hardware.
And how do you come to this conclusion, or rather where is the evidence for that? Which parts of the hardware are different?
Every CPU/GPU's or rather any Microchip acts differently. Some act very wierd if you just OC/UV slightly and others handle massive Overclocks/Undervolts with ease. I've seen DesireHDs (1ghz Snapdragon CPU) running stable at 1.6ghz and others already have random reboots with 1.1ghz. Thats just how it is.
And btw the Chipset comes from nvidia. Its up to them to release stable drivers. Why blame this on Asus?
It really helps reading up a little on such stuff before posting on XDA because this is mainly a DEV forum and not a IMA ANGRY I WANNA SHOUT AT PEOPLE-type forum. No offense
In one month there will bootloader unlock tool, there will be custom kernels and custom software. Then you can OC/UV the hell out of your prime if you're not happy with stock values

i am just reporting an issue after a new update so other users are aware. i am not screaming and yelling about the prime being a piece of **** tablet, i actually love the device but the update blows. i called cust support and they told me to do a factory reset lol just have to wait for the next "fix" and deal with it until then
You did not specify the update version that you applied.
Can we assume you applied .13?

Before you blame you patch, I suggest you do a factory reset. Just to be sure its not one of those that is causing your reboots. It certainly wouldn't be the cause of problems.

After my update to .13 - my prime had a few random reboots last night for the first time since I got the tablet a month ago...and while wifi "appears" stronger (I haven't used wifi analyzer on it yet but noticed in one corner of my house, it was showing 2 bars whereas in the past it showed only 1), I did notice that upon resuming, a handful of times Wifi was no longer reconnecting. I had to go into settings, then all of a sudden wifi would come back to life.
Definitely do a factory reset. Had the sale dropout issues and it fixed it! Good luck!

Doesn't appear to be too many effected by new update as far as lockups? Maybe a couple?

Succeeding fw updates caused more problems than improvements.
Rapid Battery drain issues
Wifi connection issues
Reboot looping
Audio player forced closures
White screen issues
Sluggish performance
UI fluidity update caused screen transition jerkiness
Deep sleep issues
Tethering issues
Very limited in going back to previous fw's
etc, etc, etc.....
And what about all the stuff that was defect in 2.1.0.8?
All the things you are talking about have effected a few users and thousends have never heared of them.
Wifi is mostly connected to the router ( ok that stupid >10channel thing coming back now and then ).
Batteriedrain is in 99% caused by the use of some software that doesn't let the tab sleep.
UI, if you stay with the std launcher there is no help. This is the same for every Android device, that's the reason why every rom has some other Launcher included.
Otherwise everything you talk about is fixed .
Is you glas half full or half empty?
Have you even considered that you are doing something wrong?

Again, if you are happy any firmware updates since 2.1.8, what are they specifically and why?
I never upgraded my 101 beyond 2.1.08 because it was stable for me. I did briefly play with a tablet with a newer firmware and didn't notice any issues.
I am still on 3.2.61 on my Gen tablet because it is working for me and none of the changelogs have mentioned Bluetooth fixes, which is my main issue.

Here's another questions:
Why do some users stick to the old times, while others live on the bleeding edge of daily updates?
I am happy with the updates, and i don't know any reason why not to do it.
The only thing that i miss sometimes are the working mpg codecs in the 2.3.81 firmware.

I usually take the first two or three updates immediately after release. If my Archos is working fine, then I usually wait to see what others say before updating after that, unless it is an OS upgrade or there is something in the changelog that fixes an issue I have. One of the reasons I wait is because sometimes you can't downgrade the firmware if you have major issues.

This question is for people in the US that downloaded the 11.1 firmware update and applied it. Did it fix / break anything? Should I try it and see if it helps with the rebooting issues?
I just want to know if it helps at all.

Been wondering the same thing. I actually read the entire thread on it, and came away with no real detail on what it has that may be different. I like to incorporate any fixes I can get my hands on, but there is too little info on this "undocumented" update. Folks were nice enough to make it available, but no one ever tore it down enough to know what it does/has. I won't take that kind of risk on... Probably best to wait for the next official, especially since that thread went nowhere, and was not too conclusive as to what this update may or may not do.

Oh OK..did only specific people get this one? Like Asus only made this available to people they contacted?
This is the thread
OP: Try to include the full release number so people know what you are talking about, specifically. In this case, its the ICS Update 9.4.2.11.1
This seems to be the bulk of avalable info on this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452933
In other words... not much. I thought about it... a lot. In fact I downloaded it last night, but so far, I am brave, but not stupid, I hope.
NEVER update to something that you do not know EXACTLY what it is, what it does(or is trying to do) and what is in it.
NEVER
Unless you LIKE having a shine "Spun Metalic" Brick... in which case, go for it.
I had the random freeze then immediately reboot bug. Really sucked and was really random. I couldn't pinpoint what was causing it at all.
Soooo, I gave 11.1 a go and all is well now.

Um, where would I see it? Build is 9. whatever.. It updated automatically after unboxing and connecting, don't see an update available. Mine is working fine software wise, no reboots or anything

I have installed it and have been running it for a week or 2. I know that it has fixed my YouTube buffering issue. It seems that it hasn't fixed the lockup issue it wifi issue, but I have not had any reboot.
I would recommend it.
Ive been running it since a half hour after it was posted and its been very good. Everything runs great with the occasional browser freeze( doesnt matter which browser)one in a while which may be my own fault because of the way i hold it with one hand in the middle and my thumb touches the bottom of the display.

Hence why I posted this thread -_-
And so far people seem to be saying that it fixes up the problems a little bit. If I can get more confirmation of this, then I'll apply it. It's an official ASUS beta for USA users only, so that's why it's not "untrustworthy".
Updating now.
I don't mind trying new things, and I'm still within my return window. I'll post if I notice anything new, but I have had 0 software bugs to date.
I have 11, but my tablet does not think it needs an update (to 11.1) Suggestions?

It's not an OTA. It's a beta that requires manual install. Or are you receiving errors on manual installation?
I actually don't get any response from my Prime regarding the update. It doesn't even try, just boots on up... will keep trying

I think you have to set the brightness to 50% and something else for it to go into "update mode" or whatever.
I've had it installed for over a week and a half, and it fixed my re-booting issue.

I'm used to searching on my tablet to see if it needs an update. But you said this was a manual.
However, when I got to the Asus Prime Firmware update site, the newest looks like 11, not 11.1.
I've bite the bullet to manually update to the beta 11.1, I will report back if it worked for me. I've had reboots/crashes/and lockups. Not too many, but enough to make me mad at this expensive 64gb tablet. Let's see. I've applied the update without a factory reset, hopefully a factor reset isn't needed since I've done a few after the orginal ICS update.

Let us know if it helps at all. It'd be great for someone to personally clarify it.
Are you tired of the constant updates lately? I didn't know if it would fix my prime or break it further I was just hoping for the best with 13,14, and 15. I was also hoping someone could hack the unlock key so I could still have my warranty. Well yesterday I got irritated and decided to unlock. The entire time I had second thoughts because I am unsure if this tablet will last a year without breaking lol, so I clicked through as fast as I could (after reading all the unlock ops.) Well as soon as I was unlocked I felt a whole lot better about my prime. Maybe I have just lost faith in Asus, I don't know but as soon as I loaded virtuous I felt more secure about my purchase. I guess I have finally come to the conclusion that Asus ISNT going to have a miracle fix for the prime that fixes all the problems and after asking someone through PM twice for a refund since I was dissatisfied with the product (only to get no response what so ever..) I decided I would make the best of what I have and stop worrying.
I don't know how to explain it but now that my device is unlocked all of my uncertainties are gone. I will keep this device for the next year or so and crack flash like there's no tomorrow!
If you are undecided on unlocking I say go for it. (Assuming you read the tutorials!!) I did and I am much happier.

Reboots, bad wifi range, zero GPS, screen flickering, lag in the UI, bad battery life. Some of these issues would come and go depending on the update.

Could you let me know if installing a custom rom has made any improvement to your gps performance.

Interesting, i was to on the fence about unlocking. I returned my Prime the other day. I've never had wifi probs on any of mine. Just got fed up with random reboot and YouTube glitches and browser freezing. One had dead pixels and light bleed.
Might have to pick up another today. Why not make it 5 lol.

let me know how you like the virtuous rom. how is the battery life compared to stock? how is the overall speed of device now in your opinion? have you come across any shortcomings on the rom yet? I'm on the fence also but still holding on. I will at least wait till I see more roms. plus I'm really looking for a rom to bring 1.8-2.0Ghz+ speeds. then I might jump the gun if its stable and performs very well.
I think I know the feeling you talking about. its a feeling like you have more control now over the fate of your device now that you can flash new roms at will. did you use rom manager to install official updated CMW or did you use the unofficial method? or the all in one method with viperprimetime 4.5?
glad to hear you feeling more confident about device now that you have the power..lol

This. Yes more control over its fate lol. I tried to use rom manager but it wouldn't work for me. I did use vipers mod to unlock and install cmw. Virtuous is great, very stock feeling and buttery smooth. Ill let you know about the battery after a week or so of testing. I do like the 1.6 ghz overclock being the new performance mode. No screen flicker anymore either! It does seem very stable in the few hours I've tested it. Will update when I can.

I won't get the fuzzy feeling until I can unbrick with nvflash, like with my phone (only not nvflash lol)
But I absolutely understand! 20 minutes after I picked up my phone from the Post Office, it was running custom ROMs (without voiding warranty... bah!). 10 minutes after I picked up my Prime it was rooted
Until then I'm still kind of sitting on a sharp edge with the Prime.

I'm in the exact boat you are, C1 and no issues besides GPS. Just solved that today with GPS over bluetooth pairing with my Nexus. Ive got no need to unlock with Voodoo rootkeeper, haven't had any issue with Asus' OTA's (.13 had the battery issue but it disappeared for me in .14) and if they want to provide me with frequent updates- I'll take em. To each his own I guess.

Definitely, I'm glad your having great luck with your prime! As far as battery life on vitreous rom, it seems VERY solid. Still no concrete numbers but its been on for about 12 hours with about 5 hours of usage and I have 68% battery. I've ran several benchmarks during this time as well. Seems quite a bit better!
Edit: by the way, I am in no way hating on the prime. I was so excited when I got it (one of bestbuys first batches!!!) But I've just had more problems than is normally acceptable even from a new product. I love my prime so much I'm just disappointed with a few critical features and was hoping Asus could somehow fix these issues. I am a HUGE techie and even though I can get about 27-32 mbs from my prime upstairs, all my other devices get a solid 42 mbs which makes me sad face! Lmao.

I read a reply in a thread which explained that the current ICS leak runs the CPU full speed, instead of scaling it, whenever the screen is on. This was the member's explanation for why some people notice their phones running hotter than on GB.
Is this true? And to the extent that it is true, is it true of the preceding leaks as well? I guess what I'm wondering is whether this is something that HTC might be hoping to resolve before going live with an OTA.

Your guess is as good as mine and I too read that same reply. I've been trying to figure this out since the leak came out. Some people aren't having any problems and some people are having all sorts of problems. I haven't been in the Rezound thread long but I'm not new to flashing and I've been going back on forth on doing the leak or waiting for either the source for kernel help or the official ota. I was thinking maybe it was "noob" mistakes but from alot of the posts it seems that experienced flashers are having problems as well. Scott has a kernel thread in the Dev section if you wish to follow that, if you aren't already. I know that all phones are created equal and there are some built better than others. So far I've been pretty fortunate in my phones. I've never had to take a phone in for repair that I didn't eff up myself.... Obviously, I'd like to think by the time we get the official ota all things will be resolved but you never know. When I had my Evo 3D it took the latest ota to solve alot of battery issues that we had. I know I don't answer your question but I too have similar ones myself. Be well.
The current leak/kernel that is having problems is part of a release candidate, we can only hope HTC resolves it before the update is finalized. I wouldn't be surprised if another leak/release candidate shows up in the near future, each one has fixed more issues found in the earlier leaks.
jjwalter--
If I was in your shoes I would not take the leak. My phone is worse than bricked.
I can put the .11 GB kernel back on the phone with my old software, but the WIFI doesn't seem to work with the ICS radio firmware, and the thing's running hotter than ever.
I had no heat or battery life issues on the current GB -- all my problems began when I flashed the .22 leak. And as long as I'm stuck with these radios I don't think they'll get better. Your mileage may vary, but if it was up to me I wouldn't get in that car again.

Thanks for the heads up. From past flashing experience I have never seen a leak with a radio and firmware update. It's usually just a rom. With a leak this close I'm sure the ota isn't too far off and I'll just keep hanging around and root and flash once that drops. Thanks again.
I know if I were HTC/Verizon/ATT/Motorola... I'd be leaking any new builds right here on XDA. You couldn't find a better group of knowledgeable testers anywhere. In my mind, these leaks are on purpose, and I'd also guess there will be future releases that fix the issues the group here has found.
im running the latest leaked version and i have no heat problems whatsoever. i play hd games, on youtube for hours, etc...hottest its gotten was 120 degrees thats it. im running stock. as far as im concerned GB is dead to me
My phone doesn't get hot playing games on the leak, but you put that mofo to stream some music and it about burns through my pants in class, and then half my extended battery is gone. It is definately due to the scaling issue
Yea I see a lot of people saying they have heat and reboot issue but they are the same people asking newb questions if ya wipe everything, check the md5, flash the ruu, and do it right you will not have problems 99% of the time. Don't be afraid to update just because a couple user experience problems its not like some guy in his mom's basement made this leak its a leak from google got out god knows how but still built with their algorithm, software, and knowledgeable engineers. I would update sense 3.6 is way better than 3.5 and ics has a lot more backup options and a better user experience. I recommend you do just make sure to do a backup before you do so you can revert back if need be.

What are the across the board issues with ics at the moment on the rezound? I'm thinking about coming from the bionic/thunderbolt, no Ril and hardware acceleration, etc.

Yep, I'm with ^ Everything is running top notch for me as well.
What are the bluetooth issues mentioned in the ics rom threads? I saw it said there was one known issue, but didn't specify.
Too many damn reboots!
Even on 4.2.2
Only good thing is the incredible ipad beating resolution.
So whats the next best tablet over this nexus 10?I'm in the market to buy like today!

Cya. I'll let you know how Ubuntu is, and you can sit behind from another 10" tablet and receive all of the future android updates 3 months behind, or a month later and half baked.
I wouldn't normally agree with a comment like above but as I have a nexus 10 I totally agree he he sorry

Does there really need to be another post on the front page about someone else returning their N10? Why not just post in the other "I'm done with this tablet and am returning it/selling it" thread?
As for me, still loving my Nexus 10, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Ubuntu works on it.

The Xperia Z or Samsung's version of the N10. The former is ultra-thin but only has a 6,000 mAh battery. It runs S4 Pro which is incredibly efficient so it's too early to say whether or not battery size will be an issue. The latter could be a good choice if in the version of the N10 Samsung sells directly they address the display and QC issues the N10's been experiencing. TW/JB on the Note 10.1 has been issue free unlike what people have been experiencing with AOSP 4.2 on the N10. MWC is next week and more info on the release of both tablets should be available.

I'm waiting to see what comes out at MWC. Id rather have a nexus just for the pure android but I have decided NOT to try another N10. I don't think they will fix the problems on this one. Sure some get 'good' ones but that seems rare. If nothing comparable comes out soon I will just wait until the next iteration of the nexus 10. But I will only buy in a retail(google) store. Never again Play Store.
My household does not have an ounce of apple (by choice) so ipad out of the question

Same here my friend. Never had a single issue with mine. Loving it.
The Nexus 10 was made for those who like to tinker. And as such, the reboots aren't as big a problem as they would be on other devices since they're easily solved by flashing a custom rom.
If you want something working flawless out of the box and dont see an issue with a walled garden, get an iPad. If you can put up with manufacture skins and a lack of speedy updates, get a Note 10.1. If you want to play russian roulette with your build quality, get a Transformer TF700. If you dont care about vast application support, get a Surface. If none of those sound appealing, give up on tablets.

Maybe something's wrong with your tablet? I used to get at least one reboot per day on 4.2.1, but haven't had any on 4.2.2 (received it on 2/14), and I haven't seen many many many owners complaining of reboots after the latest update.
Bought it a month ago to this day.. Still waiting for my first reboot.

You obviously haven't read the reboot thread then, smh
Used to have reboots all the time on 4.2.1... been pretty solid since 4.2.2... Wi-Fi drops like crazy tho on stock. I feel like when I was on cm10.1 Wi-Fi was generally solid so I'm thinking it's a combo of software and my schools some wat dodgy Wi-Fi... My iPad never experienced Wi-Fi issues that my android devices have here on campus but... That's the only good thing about those

That's unfortunate, I wonder what they're doing differently from those who are seeing a massive improvement in reboots and crashes with 4.2.2.
Even with rebooting this is the best tablet out.

I agree. I had many reboots prior to 4.2.2 but after the update I had zero reboots so far. Maybe something wrong with your unit or you got some bad **** installed in it.

so everybody was experiencing reboots on 4.2.1,and nobody says its hardware. now 4.2.2 comes out and a few people reboots stop so NOW its a hardware problem? really?
definitely isnt apps, i basically run the same apps on my tablet that i run on my phone. phone has YET to reboot once. If an app is bad and causes a crash (i guess because of its code) it will crash on any device running the same android version right? because its an app problem and not hardware...
for example, list 5 android apps that are KNOWN without a doubt to cause a reboot
please dont say chrome because it only crashes on the nexus 10
in fact, list ONE bad **** app as you say that will cause a reboot across any android device...
P.S. i think that an app causing a device to reboot is still the fault of an OS. i mean why reboot the whole device? why not jus crash the faulty app instead?
Well, I guess I spoke too soon (or jinxed myself) but I got my first post-update reboot this morning. Once per week is still much better than at least one per day, but there's still work to do it seems.

Or, maybe it's the thing that the software communicates with to interact with hardware (drivers)?
Lets say I have a desktop. I run a 3D-intensive app on it. My computer locks up and reboots. The app can be coded to be 100% perfect, and the hardware can be 100% flawless, but if the driver is flawed, then it wouldn't matter how perfect the software and hardware is.

well cool but that still eliminates the app as being the culprit of reboots as a lot of people like to suggest
so thats still an OS problem and not hardware. which means useless to send in back because i have a "bad unit"
still waiting on people to tell me apps that will get me a reboot
