So looks like Sprint is going to run a lil upgrade promo for 2 months starting next week....
http://www.sprintfeed.com/2012/02/sprint-to-offer-early-upgrade-buyout-program/
Odd timing to do this imho.
Maybe they plan on releasing the nexus phone during this time and want people to buy it?....

so I talked to sprint yesterday. They told me that I could trade my evo3d in and open a new contract for a galaxy nexus and receive 99.00 credit for my evo 3d, and cancel my terms on my 3d for 61 dollars + new contract price of the galaxy nexus being 199 or 299?

yeah either way, until galaxy nexus is out, I wont really know anything.. I'm getting that phone no matter the situation.

Same here.
when is the nexus supposed to be released on sprint's network?
this sounds like a huge trap... d3rp.
"oh yes i will upgrade early! i have been wanting a SGS2 zomgzorz!!!!"
1 week after this promo is over.... nexus hits shelves... customers who upgraded their plan now have to pay full price if they want another phone within the next year or two.
sneaky bastards. i hate the way they do business.
They are just trying to swindle people into a new contract because most people are waiting for LTE and LTE phones, and will move on if they don't get them soon.
I mean I get the promo as it kinda sorta makes up a little bit on the whole losing of the yearly upgrade gift for Premier gold members when they kicked that program out the door.
BUT that would only be the case if it was a permanent program instead of a temporary one....
Well, I hope this is still around when the Evo 3d successor comes out. New better evo coming this summer? I had og Evo, todays Evo 3d. And eventually ill have the this years Evo. Hopefully this will help me get it.
May use this for the nexus. But I'm only 10 months in.

+1 on that. would be nice to beable to do this anytime.
I won't jump on this as appealing as the Galaxy Nexus is. For one, I know there will be some beast ass phones out in August when my contract expires. Second, Sprint has to prove to me that their network will get that much better with their network speed. I won't believe this whole "network vision" till I see it. They claim they have been making some upgrades to their 3G network already according to their network tower map but I have seen absolutely no increase in speed or coverage. I want to have faith in their LTE network but their current network really has me in doubt.
So unless they REALLY get their **** together I'm switching to Verizon. They have excellent coverage around here and a blazing fast LTE network.
Does this mean we have to trade our evo 3d's into sprint or can we sell them on ebay or whatever and use that cash to pay for the fee and the new phone we get?

I would take the early upgrade to a gnexus if lte had been confirmed for my area at all. I will stick with my 3d until lte is available or my contract is up and I have to go somewhere else

Wow the nexus is not that great. It's sammy so I prefer htc anyways but pretty much same specs but no mass storage slot. Def not a flagship imo. I would save up and wait March or July for the quads coming out. Tegra and such. htc has some pretty cool stuff planned. Just be patient. The 3vo is still best in the market hands down.

The great part about the galaxy nexus is that it will always have the latest android updates and you won't have to wait for the manufacturer and carrier to release the update.
I am interested to see what quad core phones come out.

This is pretty much how I feel, The Rezound, the Nexus, and the Note are the only thing that gets my attention, and the Rezound is what interests me, but its just my 3D with a higher res screen and LTE. The Nexus has the a larger screen but the same resolution as the Rezound, still has a 5mp cam like my 3D and is a samsung. The Note is cool except it is AT&T (I know Verizon's coming.) So it comes down to OS. I want asop ICS in one form or another, so thats the selling point. I'd go for a rezound if I had a nice cm9 or such with everything working including LTE, but still I would wish for a larger screen size, since I would feel like I still have my 3D...

This is the correct choice. Sprint is due for a new phone, and anything you get right now will be outdated soon. The Nexus S is your best bet for a relatively affordable phone off-contract right now, because it's already got ICS unofficially, and behind the Galaxy Nexus, it'll likely be first to have it officially as well.
Don't get an Evo 3D. The 3D is cool, but barely anybody can view the photos and videos you make with it right now anyway, and the difficulty it apparently adds to development has choked our dev community when compared to other phones. It's frustrating.
Just make sure that is not a Samsung phone....couple of friends at work have the new epic touch and i havnt heard anythin good about em
And yea just get a watever phone and hold your upgrade like that you can get a way better phone in the near future...
I have the Evo 3D and honestly i have no complaints but thats up to you
Use your upgrade wisely!

I would go with a 3d just for one reason Samsung does not update there phone fast enough. My wife had her epic since day one and a few weeks ago she got 2.3. While the og evo had 2.3 six months earlyer go with HTC but that's just me

this is the best answer that you could give. good idea! ive seen a nexus 4g on craigslist for 200 at the most in good condition. im thinking about getting one in addition to my evo 3d haha.

Funny. I want this so bad, but depending what happens, I may go with Gnex. I got my mom one for mothers day, and it's nice. So nice to not have ICS uglified by sense.
That said, I would prefer Evo cuz I could play with sense if I felt like it, or mostly just use CM or AOKP (hopefully, I'm just assuming there will be AOSP development). Also, I'm sure the HTC camera is better, and from reports, the processor is better.

Yeah the GNEX is really not that bad but I always want the most up to date phone so the evo would fit that category

I was really excited about the GNex pre-launch of Verizon. I planned to pick it up once it hit Sprint, though I expected Sprint would get it shorty after Verizon. I went to a Verizon store to check it out when it launched but was highly disappointed with the device. While the GNex is still probably the best looking device to me, the camera let me down, screen, and overall performance as well. I was stoked to see the HTC One line announcement at MWC, and new that the One X/XL would be my next device

Ditto. I was 100% sold on a Gnex until my Step Mom got one from VZW it was nice to play with but there was enough lacking that I decided to wait for the Evo LTE, That of course is not saying it's bad at all if there was no EVO LTE it would definitely be my next upgrade.
I have the gnex and am going with the new evo because I can't seem to get used to the on screen nav buttons. I guess I'm a stick in the mud and like the touch buttons under the screen. Added my wife to my plan and she's getting the gnex when the evo arrives. Its a really nice phone and it will be her first touch screen device so she will be stoked.

I was holding out pulling the trigger on a purchase.. I wanted the Gnex for thep ur experience but at the current prices I had to go 4G LTE.. Best I saw was Wirefly no activation fee, +50$ GW credit on Gnex which brings it to $100 all said and done. The 4G LTE while delayed has no activation fee either, gets a +10$ GW credit, and would be $140.00 after applying everything. I couldn't justify such an old device for $50 less then the 4GLTE all things considered so I got the 4G LTE.
I've always wanted a Nexus device but CDMA is not a fav at Google.. The wait just isn't worth it. Unfortunately I will be waiting a little bit for a pure experience
I think it was Android Central where an HTC executive said the HTC ONE will be their only flagship device this year and it won't be modified for carriers..... So where does the leave the EVO line?? Carriers always leave their best phones for a summer release and the ONE comes out next month.....No way Sprint won't have a flagship device releasing in May/June!!!!
The article is on Phandroid!!
Maybe sprint will release the Htc One in late spring like the EVO 4g Lte was? We don't even have a official release date from sprint yet
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Its confirmed that it's definitely a March release....we just don't know what day!!!!! It would be horrible if that's their summer release because I know I'm willing to wait for a device with the s800 and I'm sure most geeks feel the same way and HTC isn't Apple....geeks are HTC's bread and butter!!!!
Maybe we'll get an evo with that sweet sweet Snapdragon 800 chipset in the summer.

You could be right, however I think there is another situation about to happen. As far as marketing and hyping up a phone, HTC will only be making noise about the One. So you won't see any big shows, commercials, or anything else from HTC unless its about the One. That is HTC baby for 2013.
But....that doesn't mean that Spint won't contract HTC to design an EVO with lets says a snapdragon 800, and some other goodies. But the marketing, and hype will all have to come from sprint. And for that reason, I am not sure how that will go over. But I do think sprint will contine the EVO, but expect no noise from HTC about it.
Htc is crap. I wish i got a S3.... or At least they get rid of Rosie. That is all. lol.

Nah, I doubt sprint would even consider that. LG doesn't have that kind of backing ot credibility to pull off an EVO. No history of updates, pro/con development, or releasing of source. Not sure many would opt to grab that over the One. I know I wouldn't.

That looks really nice to me! I've never owned an LG phone, but they have definitely been improving their Android game lately! While my next phone will definitely have at least a 5"display, I'm not so sure I want a 5.5" display as the Note 2 actually felt a little larger than I was expecting (and I had expected that I'd love that size display). Only complaint with the Optimus G Pro is that the display is only IPS, instead of IPS Plus/Super IPS. Both of my current tablets have an IPS Plus display, being the Asus Prime (TF201) and the Asus Infinity (TF700T). That article even mentions that the display is not as bright as they would have liked, and IPS Plus does exactly that - increases display brightness. I guess we'll see what all Sprint has planned for this spring/summer, as that will be 1 year for me with the Evo LTE and that's about how often I've been purchasing a new phone for the last 6 years. So far though, the Optimus G Pro is in the front of the pack. I'm hoping HTC releases a phone with a 5"+ display soon very soon, as they have officially said that they will be producing phones with 5"+ displays this year.
Sent from my White Evo LTE running MeanBean, using XDA Premium
The One is HTC's only flagship phone, not Sprint's. I'm sure they're working with Sprint on a phone that'll be released in the summer to continue the EVO name. Remember, HTC had a couple different "flagship" phones last year with the One line. Now, they're sticking with just one phone (no pun intended). Now, I have been wrong before, but this is just my speculation. I'd buy the One if an EVO isn't in the cards.
If the One will be HTC's only flagship then the EVO is dead, unless they release one and it's a mid-tier device. If that was the case, why would you buy it?
Face it guys, it's over for the EVO.
As for Sprint, the only rumored device I see potentially topping the One is the Moto X. This is purely speculation seeing as there are no released specs, but I believe it won't be exclusive to any one carrier and Google wants to offer a non-Nexus device to beat Samsung's flagship. Too bad we probably won't get any details until May because I really want the One next month. It would suck waiting until May just to hear its not as superior as rumored, or that it won't go to Sprint anyway.
Yea, the EVO line is dead. I enjoyed it, but it's time to go. This will make advertising, accessories and everything else much easier.
I know people like the body design of the 4g LTE, but I for one think the one X on at&t was a much much better looking phone. The HTC ONE looks even better than that. I'll miss the kickstand, but I'm tired of explaining to people what an evo is and why it's actually still part of HTCs flagship line. It makes zero sense to keep making carrier specific models.

I for one am glad that the EVO line might be dead. The reason I am saying that is because this "should" make for quicker updates. One phone two base updates (CDMA/GSM). HTC can pour all their recourses into keeping these 2 versions updated. I know that carriers will add there bloat but keeping the base updates basically uniform should speed up the process. Just my 2 cents.

Got that code to do the tradeup and I plugged in the info and it looks like the HTC Evo LTE is worth just $100 trade up for the HTC One, in case anyone was curious. Don't know how this can be of any benefit Would you be charged the full price of the phone or just $99 ($199- $100 trade up)? Would your contract with Sprint reset for 2 yrs when you got the phone? I'm still reading through the fine print.
Surprisingly the One X is $115 and the One S is $100. Shows you how much they don't value the Evo LTE. Even the old G1 is worth $100. Sad I tell you.

Yes. However, I bought the LTE off-contract last year, which means I have an upgrade coming up. Really don't know if I should sell the LTE and get the One or wait to see what else comes out. Hate sitting with an upgrade though.
The chipset upgrade is looking less crucial for me than back in the day, the LTE is pretty fast the way it is. So what I would be really gaining is great speaker sound, better camera (questionable), slightly better screen (but how much better is slcd2 --> slcd 3?), and Sense 5.
However, I would be losing the kickstand, dedicated camera button, menu/recent apps button, slightly smaller phone (dimension-wise, the One has more bezel, which equates to bigger phone even though they're both 4.7")
Love the chassis on the One though! But the LTE is mostly aluminum, so it doesn't make it as bad.
Can't decide!!

What do you think I did with the phone I had when I bought the LTE off-contract? It's a 3D by the way, and it's sitting in my office for this very reason
I for one am not impressed with the HTC One in regards to it really being worth an upgrade from the LTE
The 1st camera reviews that have come out so far have been beyond disappointing.
In due time a Dev will have the HTC One software running on the EVO LTE
After that, what would be a reason to upgrade if you are not eligible for a full upgrade?
I would also be highly disappointed if HTC no longer gives sprint an exclusive phone.
Thats one of the main reasons why I have chosen to remain with sprint (11 years) as I refuse to have a sprint phone that other carriers offer
because i know that phone performs better on their networks that have better LTE reception

It made sense to me. He said he needs a reason to be on Sprint. He said his reason was the awesome exclusive phone. So if there's no excusivity (i.e. same phone on every carrier), then it doesn't make sense to him to be on Sprint, sense the signals are worse than the other big name carriers.
One big reason I'm on Sprint though is the price. I'm willing to suck up the signal quality for a lower phone bill.

Why do some think the One isn't an upgrade? It has a quad core and double the ram. Really, to me, it's a bigger upgrade from the LTE than the LTE was from the 3D (unless you actually have LTE). The 3D was a duo core just as our phone and with the same 1gb of ram. Hell, with the sense 4 ports it was a pretty spiffy handset. Coming to this phone from the Note 2, there is a definitive difference from a duo core processor to a quad core..I think sometimes (myself included) we don't see the next best thing as a justification for upgrade simply because we aren't eligible yet or can't afford it outright. Just my thoughts...

Holding off on this phone. I've owned all of the Evos but won't be buying this one. Sprint sucks. I'm waiting until a couple months remain on my contract and then jumping ship to Verizon. Verizon has 4g in my city and have for almost a year and I'm stuck here with Sprint's ****ty 3g service that won't even load a Google search in a decent amount of time.

Yea I agree. Verizon is just a gauge master with the bill, otherwise I'd go too.

I'm most probably getting it, but not sure whether I'm staying on Sprint or not. Each carrier has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Isn't our evo sprints version of the one. What is changing and how is the one x on sprint differnt than the evo lte other than the way it looks physically

So what is different about the evo and the one x coming.

Had the EVO, EVO 3D, and now EVO LTE.
I'm going Galaxy IV this time around.

if the galaxy s4 turns out to impress...i may consider that if i choose to upgrade. although, the htc one is tempting as well, so it'll be a tough choice for me

Me too. Having a hard time deciding. How are you so certain, trying something different?

Sense always wins me back. Will probably find a way to try both.
But I do like the one so far

Read the thread " is the m7 the next EVO" and climb out from under that rock lol ...and yes I'm def getting it ...it will match my new metal i7 Asus well
ugh i just wish it supported sd cards
I've also had all of the Evos. I personally like the One even without a sd card. It sucks because I bought the LTE outright because I'm not due for a upgrade until April. Oh well I'll just have the LTE and the One. No way in hell I'm giving the LTE up for a 100.00 dollars after I paid 550.00 for it in December.
method1911 Tranquility LTE
Ill mostly find a way to buy the one but, ill probably not let this EVO go for quite a while. This has easily been the best phone I've ever had and I love this phone! I wish it would've had all the crazy development we had with the first EVO. That was so much fun. Everytime you would log on to the forum you never knew what new thing would be there. Which is funny because I almost exclusively ran warm or virus but I read everything. Needless to say, I love this phone and I am excited to see this new one.
I also have to say that the development for this phone is, although not as heavy and as many, I think it is definitely WAY better. Mikey, and superjelly, and these others are really throwing solid builds. I just miss the buzz that used to be here.
Unless the galaxy s4 has something to deter me away then the HTC One it is.
