Funny. I want this so bad, but depending what happens, I may go with Gnex. I got my mom one for mothers day, and it's nice. So nice to not have ICS uglified by sense.
That said, I would prefer Evo cuz I could play with sense if I felt like it, or mostly just use CM or AOKP (hopefully, I'm just assuming there will be AOSP development). Also, I'm sure the HTC camera is better, and from reports, the processor is better.

Yeah the GNEX is really not that bad but I always want the most up to date phone so the evo would fit that category

I have the gnex on Verizon. Bad display. Bad camera. Hate the on screen buttons. I want my evo!

I have the gnex now but am planning on buying the evo lte full price also....I'll stay with both for a few months and then decide which to stay with. If I can have aosp on the evo I'll probably stick with that one.

Yeah I was really hype for this GNEX but I got bored with it I guess in a way you can call me a phone whore lol
Sent from GNEX waiting the arrival of the HTC Evo LTE to be released
I was really excited about the GNex pre-launch of Verizon. I planned to pick it up once it hit Sprint, though I expected Sprint would get it shorty after Verizon. I went to a Verizon store to check it out when it launched but was highly disappointed with the device. While the GNex is still probably the best looking device to me, the camera let me down, screen, and overall performance as well. I was stoked to see the HTC One line announcement at MWC, and new that the One X/XL would be my next device

Ditto. I was 100% sold on a Gnex until my Step Mom got one from VZW it was nice to play with but there was enough lacking that I decided to wait for the Evo LTE, That of course is not saying it's bad at all if there was no EVO LTE it would definitely be my next upgrade.
I have the gnex and am going with the new evo because I can't seem to get used to the on screen nav buttons. I guess I'm a stick in the mud and like the touch buttons under the screen. Added my wife to my plan and she's getting the gnex when the evo arrives. Its a really nice phone and it will be her first touch screen device so she will be stoked.

I was holding out pulling the trigger on a purchase.. I wanted the Gnex for thep ur experience but at the current prices I had to go 4G LTE.. Best I saw was Wirefly no activation fee, +50$ GW credit on Gnex which brings it to $100 all said and done. The 4G LTE while delayed has no activation fee either, gets a +10$ GW credit, and would be $140.00 after applying everything. I couldn't justify such an old device for $50 less then the 4GLTE all things considered so I got the 4G LTE.
I've always wanted a Nexus device but CDMA is not a fav at Google.. The wait just isn't worth it. Unfortunately I will be waiting a little bit for a pure experience

I keep seeing these "I love my phone" threads or "I'm returning my phone" thread and all it does to me is make me indecisive. My upgrade is available on August 1st and I want to know if it's worth it. I am an evo 4g user since last year and i want to know from someone who enjoyed the evo since day 1 the difference between the two phones. By the way I am not planning on getting a gs2. Thanks guys.
UPDATE : Bought the damn phone and then I rooted the damn thing and I overclocked it and I am loving it. Thank god my account was eligible for an upgrade on August 1st while root was out. Patience is a virtue.

I had the Evo 4G since launch day, used it all year, and upgraded to the Evo3D on launch day as well. It is definitely an upgrade from the Evo 4G. The qHD screen is superior, the smoothness of the UI is awesome, sense 3.0 is cool, the processor and gpu are both beasts, and 90% of the devs that worked on the Evo4g are here for the Evo3D as well. The only thing the Evo has on the 3d (IMO) is full root and custom roms/kernels. However, we are very close to having that on the 3D as well. (hopefully) So to answer your question, yes I think you would enjoy the upgrade from the Evo4g. The power of this phone is amazing, even stock. The battery life is superior to the Evo too. And things are only going to get better from here, once we have S-off.

What he said. I have both phones still. The only issue I have run into with the phone is wireless speeds. I am in the sticks, and pretty sure I am usually roaming on Verizon 1x towers. When I was in a big city over the weekend, Colorado Springs, the 4G speeds were pretty stinking awesome! 3G left a lot to be desired though. I have read up on it a bit, talked with those who I thought would know more than me, and did the 3G speed fix. So far, is loads about 200kbps regardless of signal strength. If you can look past that, you're set. I am pretty sure I'll be sticking this device out for as long as Devs are willing to work on it. Keeping fingers crossed for all of the fun possibilities that this POWERFUL device will bring when kinks are worked out.
Buy it you won't regret it!

For me, i was torn between evo3d and nexus s, i ended up with the 3d and for my first 30 i considered trading for the nexus, if it had just a few more features i probably would have traded for it. Now i wish i would have waited for the samsung s2.
Do i like the phone? Yes
Was it worth $200 to upgrade from the evo? No
But i sold my evo back to sprint for $150, so for a $50 upgrade from the evo it was worth it. Although i still wish i would have heald off for the new samsung coming out
Everything everyone wants in a custom rom and everything every custom rom advertises for the OG EVO is already in the 3D stock, plus the 3d features and more. Yes. Buy the damn phone! It hasn't even been rooted yet. This means where the OG EVO is being pushed to its limits, the 3D's true potential hasn't even been tapped yet.
Yes. Phone is awesome, even without full root.
I love my 3vo. But to each their own. Make sure the screen isn't crooked before they activate it.
Battery life is awesome. Way far superior than the OG 4G.
The ONLY think I like about the OG 4G is the width of the screen. I wish the 3vo was the same width. The 3vo seems a little top heavy in my hands. But it is so minor that I'll soon forget about it.

Wait for the Samsung Within. It just cleared the FCC today!! I can't wait.
I will likely be a EVO lifer. I purchased the EVO 4G on launch and bought the EVO 3D on launch, like many on here have previously stated. I loved my EVO 4G and I love this phone as well.
With or without root (which will come) this phone is beastly. I cannot guarantee that you will like it since I do not know of your previous phone history/preferences but I am assuming that your not a stranger to the smartphone/Android/HTC arena?
Thanks for the replies guys. Also I would like to know what defects should I look for in the phone b4 I can take it out of the store.

Great phone but with Sprint's version of the GSII (Within) just passing through the FCC yesterday I would personally wait a few weeks. Looks like the GSII is coming soon. I personally will be getting it but I walk around with 2 phones. If I only had one upgrade I would wait till you get a firm release date so you can at least have that 30 day window in case you don't like the 3D & want to go with the GSII (Within). But both are great phones so I guess the decision is ultimately whether you prefer Samsung over HTC. I personally think Samsung wins the hardware battle just sucks when it comes to software and support of their products. Also the big time devs are in the 3D's corner right now.

Go with HTC
Had the Samsung Epic and gave up on Samsung providing any updates over a year or more. Always saw HTC updates in the forums. I will not be done in again by sightly better hardware verses superior software support. I'm in HTC's camp from now on.
So looks like Sprint is going to run a lil upgrade promo for 2 months starting next week....

so I talked to sprint yesterday. They told me that I could trade my evo3d in and open a new contract for a galaxy nexus and receive 99.00 credit for my evo 3d, and cancel my terms on my 3d for 61 dollars + new contract price of the galaxy nexus being 199 or 299?

Same here.
when is the nexus supposed to be released on sprint's network?
this sounds like a huge trap... d3rp.
"oh yes i will upgrade early! i have been wanting a SGS2 zomgzorz!!!!"
1 week after this promo is over.... nexus hits shelves... customers who upgraded their plan now have to pay full price if they want another phone within the next year or two.
sneaky bastards. i hate the way they do business.
They are just trying to swindle people into a new contract because most people are waiting for LTE and LTE phones, and will move on if they don't get them soon.
I mean I get the promo as it kinda sorta makes up a little bit on the whole losing of the yearly upgrade gift for Premier gold members when they kicked that program out the door.
BUT that would only be the case if it was a permanent program instead of a temporary one....
Well, I hope this is still around when the Evo 3d successor comes out. New better evo coming this summer? I had og Evo, todays Evo 3d. And eventually ill have the this years Evo. Hopefully this will help me get it.
May use this for the nexus. But I'm only 10 months in.

+1 on that. would be nice to beable to do this anytime.
I won't jump on this as appealing as the Galaxy Nexus is. For one, I know there will be some beast ass phones out in August when my contract expires. Second, Sprint has to prove to me that their network will get that much better with their network speed. I won't believe this whole "network vision" till I see it. They claim they have been making some upgrades to their 3G network already according to their network tower map but I have seen absolutely no increase in speed or coverage. I want to have faith in their LTE network but their current network really has me in doubt.
So unless they REALLY get their **** together I'm switching to Verizon. They have excellent coverage around here and a blazing fast LTE network.
Does this mean we have to trade our evo 3d's into sprint or can we sell them on ebay or whatever and use that cash to pay for the fee and the new phone we get?

The great part about the galaxy nexus is that it will always have the latest android updates and you won't have to wait for the manufacturer and carrier to release the update.

This is pretty much how I feel, The Rezound, the Nexus, and the Note are the only thing that gets my attention, and the Rezound is what interests me, but its just my 3D with a higher res screen and LTE. The Nexus has the a larger screen but the same resolution as the Rezound, still has a 5mp cam like my 3D and is a samsung. The Note is cool except it is AT&T (I know Verizon's coming.) So it comes down to OS. I want asop ICS in one form or another, so thats the selling point. I'd go for a rezound if I had a nice cm9 or such with everything working including LTE, but still I would wish for a larger screen size, since I would feel like I still have my 3D...
Well today I made it a point to go to the Sprint Corporate store to handle a EVO 4G LTE, and left totally amazed. I didn't pick one up because last year my EVO 3D performed like crap when I 1st picked it up. It was freezing and dropping calls until I replace it with a Photon.
So I figure I don't need a phone now and will wait a few weeks to see what head aches it has software wise with bugs. This is because 15 days is not log enough to find bugs and its unfair to buy a phone and be stuck with a a fail.
That said I like the thought of GSIII, but after handling this phone and how gorgeous it looks I say that the LCD 2 screen, SVDO and HD voice makes it the best android device on the market along with its camera performance. When I 1st looked at it I thought it was a demo unit with the screen that brilliant until I picked it up and interacted with it.
Speeds are blazing, there is no lag sense is not over whelming, and I just can't see anyone hating on this device based on my interface. for the 1st time I don't feel the need to use any other launcher. I feel that if there are no bugs that I can just use it and go until the next 800 LTE drops.
I barley use Wimax so going to this until LTE arrives in NYC will be fine for me. The user experience is that good IMHO. Some of you think sticking with and old device is better until LTE arrives, and that's ok. I say if you want a light weight phone that performs superbly until LTE don't be afraid to try this. Just hope that there are no bugs, or that they are just minimal like I am.

hey guys,
I have had a Evo 4 G LTE for a while now and am fairly happy... for me the S3 and the Evo 4 G LTE are fairly similar... now both might have some pluspoints in one category and some others in another, but here is my question...
my wife is now on my old evo 4G. Her plan is up and she can buy a new phone...
Now the 2 i consider are Evo 4G LTE and S3 since they still seem to dominate the market...
My wife does not necessarily wanna root her device and she is not as involved as me...
Still are there any pros to having 2 same phones, that i am not aware of? meaning buying a second EVO LTE ?
Or are there any Pro about having 2 different phones? Any EVO 4 LTE Owner out there?? What does your significant other own?

Evo all the way. That way any apps you share, any texts and pictures you send, etc. will all work the same. And Sense is more user friendly than touchwiz will ever be. It's the closest you can get to the IPhone for user experience (and the reviews and consumer reports back it up). The dedicated camera button also helps a lot.

S3 is the most overrated and overhyped phone ever. if you do not like your 4g LTE, look at the droid razr maxx hd, it has one of the largest battery while staying in reasonable form factor. Build quality is also superb. Nexus 4 is also a very good phone as it has one of the fastest cpu (quad core s4 pro) and the build quality is also superb. The only downside is it lacks microsd. The upcoming Sony yuga is also very good choice.

Get her the EVO LTE. My wife had the OG EVO and now has the EVO LTE and loves it. She is stock/no root and is not interested either. Being that she was used to the sense UI on the OG EVO, the EVO LTE was a perfect phone for her. Don't change it up by going with an S3 or even the iphone5, it will probably just confuse and fustrate her having to learn the UI all over again.

If she's used to sense and is abusive I would get the HTC evo LTE, however if your wife doesn't drop things or bang it around I would say go with the s3, the s3 is pretty bad ass when not rooted. I have both devices and I will say the s3 is easier to use. Not to mention the s3 is also noticeably faster

I bought the wife a GS3 on black friday and she loves it. But she is basically a noob on android and has no idea what the phone can even do.
A bit of background.................She was using an OG Evo, (I rooted it and put meanrom on it) she abused that phone........so for the last 2 months I gave her my retired Evo 3D.....in 2 months she made it look like it was 5 years old. Broke the red ring around the camera, the side of the bezel is coming off on both sides. So I bought her the GS3 for $50 on black friday.
She has no idea what root is other than its what lets her use her kindle on the train in the mornings, lol. I play with it every once in a while but I definately like the evo experiance better. But the only good I found for having 2 different phones was to actually see if there was a difference getting LTE on my EVO and her GS3. And for me there is no difference, they both hold the signal the same.

I'm in the same spot as you, my wife has an OG evo... her contract isnt up yet, but I have been telling her to get the S3 ( i have the evo 4g lte)... too many annoying quirks with the stock evo 4g lte... now if the jelly bean update actually comes... and actually fixes wifi bounce or the issues with the 4g lte signal... then i will be telling her to get the evo... if i could do it all over again, I would get an s3 ( I was a day one OG Evo buyer and really liked the phone)... just because it has a larger user base and more development as far as I can tell.
Still no lte fix on the evo lte and its been 6 monthes since it came out
gs3 with android 4.2 cm10.1
After owning both phones, the EvoLTE wins in some areas and the GS3 wins in some areas. I personally chose to leave the EvoLTE becuase of the 4G problems, locked battery, and constant Sense freeze ups. I don't think your wife will have as many apps, contacts, and need for extra batteries like me so you might as well keep the interface consistent by sticking with HTC since she is already using the OG Evo.
The EvoLTE has a better screen, camera, and keyboard.
The GS3 has a removable battery, better 4G signal, more intuitive software/shortcuts, and better multitasking.

I guess possible root from teh evo iw ould be more familiar with.... on the other side my mother in law has a S2... so she might be attracted to get the next model her mom got...The multitasking still buggs me out BIG TIME... but it is somewhat under control in Mean Rom i am running....
she does abuse phones... as far as just throwing it in the purse... that beeing said i still have a good Seido cover on my OG EVO ... so it absorbs most of the scratches... still she doesnt care about phones that much... they just land in the bottom of the purse...
Has she looked at the phones?
I'm the more phone techy one, so it may be just me but I'd be a bit disturbed if my husband gave me a phone with out my input.
FWIW, I had the Evo OG, rooted it. I thought about getting SGIII but I preferred Sense over Touch wiz and I liked how Evo LTE felt in my hand.
Finally, not everyone wants an iPhone even if the phone remains stocked and unrooted. I wish people would stop suggesting the iPhone as the default.

I always suggest iPhones for people that are not tech savvy. Ie: women and children

I think it was Android Central where an HTC executive said the HTC ONE will be their only flagship device this year and it won't be modified for carriers..... So where does the leave the EVO line?? Carriers always leave their best phones for a summer release and the ONE comes out next month.....No way Sprint won't have a flagship device releasing in May/June!!!!
The article is on Phandroid!!
Maybe sprint will release the Htc One in late spring like the EVO 4g Lte was? We don't even have a official release date from sprint yet

Its confirmed that it's definitely a March release....we just don't know what day!!!!! It would be horrible if that's their summer release because I know I'm willing to wait for a device with the s800 and I'm sure most geeks feel the same way and HTC isn't Apple....geeks are HTC's bread and butter!!!!
Maybe we'll get an evo with that sweet sweet Snapdragon 800 chipset in the summer.

We might be holding the last EVO. I would love the SD Card & Kickstand added to the One in EVO form.

You could be right, however I think there is another situation about to happen. As far as marketing and hyping up a phone, HTC will only be making noise about the One. So you won't see any big shows, commercials, or anything else from HTC unless its about the One. That is HTC baby for 2013.
But....that doesn't mean that Spint won't contract HTC to design an EVO with lets says a snapdragon 800, and some other goodies. But the marketing, and hype will all have to come from sprint. And for that reason, I am not sure how that will go over. But I do think sprint will contine the EVO, but expect no noise from HTC about it.
Htc is crap. I wish i got a S3.... or At least they get rid of Rosie. That is all. lol.
Here's sprints summer flagship http://gizmodo.com/5986617/lgs-55+inch-optimus-pro-has-a-1080p-ips-screen-hands-on I know I'll be getting one... The evo has been good to me but maybe Google did their homework with LG and I'm going to follow suit

Nah, I doubt sprint would even consider that. LG doesn't have that kind of backing ot credibility to pull off an EVO. No history of updates, pro/con development, or releasing of source. Not sure many would opt to grab that over the One. I know I wouldn't.

That looks really nice to me! I've never owned an LG phone, but they have definitely been improving their Android game lately! While my next phone will definitely have at least a 5"display, I'm not so sure I want a 5.5" display as the Note 2 actually felt a little larger than I was expecting (and I had expected that I'd love that size display). Only complaint with the Optimus G Pro is that the display is only IPS, instead of IPS Plus/Super IPS. Both of my current tablets have an IPS Plus display, being the Asus Prime (TF201) and the Asus Infinity (TF700T). That article even mentions that the display is not as bright as they would have liked, and IPS Plus does exactly that - increases display brightness. I guess we'll see what all Sprint has planned for this spring/summer, as that will be 1 year for me with the Evo LTE and that's about how often I've been purchasing a new phone for the last 6 years. So far though, the Optimus G Pro is in the front of the pack. I'm hoping HTC releases a phone with a 5"+ display soon very soon, as they have officially said that they will be producing phones with 5"+ displays this year.

The One is HTC's only flagship phone, not Sprint's. I'm sure they're working with Sprint on a phone that'll be released in the summer to continue the EVO name. Remember, HTC had a couple different "flagship" phones last year with the One line. Now, they're sticking with just one phone (no pun intended). Now, I have been wrong before, but this is just my speculation. I'd buy the One if an EVO isn't in the cards.
If the One will be HTC's only flagship then the EVO is dead, unless they release one and it's a mid-tier device. If that was the case, why would you buy it?
Face it guys, it's over for the EVO.
As for Sprint, the only rumored device I see potentially topping the One is the Moto X. This is purely speculation seeing as there are no released specs, but I believe it won't be exclusive to any one carrier and Google wants to offer a non-Nexus device to beat Samsung's flagship. Too bad we probably won't get any details until May because I really want the One next month. It would suck waiting until May just to hear its not as superior as rumored, or that it won't go to Sprint anyway.
Yea, the EVO line is dead. I enjoyed it, but it's time to go. This will make advertising, accessories and everything else much easier.
I know people like the body design of the 4g LTE, but I for one think the one X on at&t was a much much better looking phone. The HTC ONE looks even better than that. I'll miss the kickstand, but I'm tired of explaining to people what an evo is and why it's actually still part of HTCs flagship line. It makes zero sense to keep making carrier specific models.

I for one am glad that the EVO line might be dead. The reason I am saying that is because this "should" make for quicker updates. One phone two base updates (CDMA/GSM). HTC can pour all their recourses into keeping these 2 versions updated. I know that carriers will add there bloat but keeping the base updates basically uniform should speed up the process. Just my 2 cents.

Well seeing that us Sprint guys don't need the SIM slot on the side, maybe we'll get an sdcard slot. Maybe.
