I have to constantly toggle Wifi on and off all the time. I know it is a known issue but is it as common as mine is? Is there any fix to this? I hope it is a priority of CM7 developers cause it is making android on the touchpad pointless.
LoL, I tried to post this but guess what? Wifi off again. Here we go...

Yes everyone experiences this quite often... its why is is a known issue. Its also why so many threads on the issue exist. Its also why its in the Common issues and problems thread at the VERY top. People wouldn't have so much emphasis on it if it wasn't common.
Make sure you set your Wifi Sleep policy in Wifi advanced settings to NEVER.
The problem I am having is that I can connect to a network. Says the normal optaining ip address, then it says connected, but I have no internet connection. I do have internet connection on multiple devices running on the same network. Did I miss something in the settings for wifi? Thank you
This guy also suggests changing the hostname to something more palatable to some routers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319838
Not sure if it'll help, but I've made this change myself. We'll see...
I'm running Android without any problem with WiFi, but, I do run Regpon to keep it "alive".
It may help unless you are talking about problems with Webos!
Wifi is basically useless to me on Android. It will work for a couple minutes, crap out, say it's connected yet provide no connection, etc. I'm just going to stop worrying about it until an update is out.

I had WiFi working for a bit after first installing CM7, but after it went to sleep' I can't reconnect. I get force closes when I try editing WiFi settings. I've tried rebooting multiple times, toggling wifi on and off, airplane mode on and off, etc. It refuses to reconnect. It shows "connecting” briefly, but never actually does.
Can't do much of anything with no wifi... It was great while it lasted though.
Search is your friend people..... Known issue but there is a temp fix you need to do once and you will be fine until the next time you reboot. Leaving wifi on, press your network and tell your tp to forget it. Now turn wifi off. Turn back on, select your network, enter key and you are good to go until you reboot. Easy fix.
If wii settings is running real slow, no worries, do above steps pressing buttons only once and wait, it will catch up. If you pop up says it is not responding, click wait, it will work. Remember you only have to do this on reboots.

Thanks, but it also doesn't work for me. I had already searched, found that method (aside from already thinking of it and attempting it myself), but I get force closes every time and clicking wait doesn't help. It never allows me to click "Forget Network". It just cycles through Force Close when I try to get the menu to pop up allowing me to click on "Forget Network".
I downloaded an app called softlocker and it keeps the unit from going to sleep in all ways. I have noticed a huge improvement
We are clearly talking about 2 different problems here.
1) The known issue where WiFi is rock solid whilst using the touchpad, but if you let it go into deep sleep it will turn off and not come back until the wifi is cycled
2) This guys problem where he is randomly being disconnected whilst using his pad. I recommend getting the latest firmware update for your home router and also "temporarily" turn off all WiFi security connect your pad and see how it reacts, just to make sure this is not a security issue.
My Wifi crapped out a couple times last night. I was playing with Airplane Mode. After turning off Airplane Mode it works flawlessly again.
If it keeps searching / obtaining ip, put in the correct password.
I seem to have fixed the issue by changing my router from WPA to WEP security. Haven't dropped my connection in over 24 hours. Perfect.
Edit: 48 hours now, never dropped wifi.
Guys, i've been bugged by this since the i9003 days.. While my sgsl was in froyo i can download while screen is off (using 3g) and after gb upgrade when i tuen off the screen download will stop.. After i bought sgs2 i thought it will change but the same thing happened.. I think it is a feature of Gb.. My question is, is there an app that lets you download over 3g even when the screen is off???

Do you have JuiceDefender installed? It shuts off data when screen is off by default. My S2 downloads over 3g or wifi just fine. I do use JuiceDefender though. I set it to allow a program to stay connected (opera, adownloader, etc). But that program needs to be in the foreground when screen turns off.
If you're having the issue with wifi, make sure the sleep policy is set to never.
Also, make sure your background data is enabled just in case if you changed it.

Your WiFi is set to turn off when screen is off you should be able to change this in WiFi settings as a side note it will cause more battery drain

You don't have Tasker installed, do you?
Probably there is some 'battery saving' app installed that has a profile to turn of 3g when screen is off.
I have a same trouble. My connection stops while the screen goes off. My wifi doen't go to sleep and I already checked option "Never" in wifi sleep policy setting. I can't listen music online or even download file has a large size while screen turn off. If I turn on it again, downloading will be continue. I think this cause is JuiceDefender, however, after uninstall it nothing change
Hi,
In my Sony S I set WiFi to turn off when: "Never, when charging" and turn off (unchecked) GSM data transfer but still when screen is off I am receiving emails.
Why it is? If WiFi is not working when screen off, data transfer is turn off why I receiving emails?
It's really icky.
Whenever my screen is off, it DC's, then I hear getting an e-mail, and 10 mins after that, when I turn on the screen it says disconnected. Also, the settings aren't that clear.
A minor bug if you'd ask me
me too
This also happens to me. I recieve email even thogh I have checked wifi off when screen off.
Now I put into flight mode then turn screen off. This seems to work.
So, it looking like we found another firmware bug
I just got my SGPT111 this thursday. Been playing with it ever since. Updating to latest firmware and installing apps and trying different things tearing my hair over the lcd-protection for the display and such IO'm happier than an tornado in a trailerpark over this tablet. Only drawback I have found so far is just the WiFi.
I don't want it to turn of or go offline when screen goes black. I want it active 100% of the time, but no matter what I do or what I try, it still goes off when screen goes black ?!?
Is there something I have missed?
I've tried "when screen goes off"
"never when plugged in" and also
"never (uses more battery power) but still no dice.
Any ideas or suggestions that might help ?
I guess its the system turning wifi on to push email notifications.

something it is. Will try and test another AP if possible and see if that helps.
I want it on, not off
oh ell, I guess I can live with it beeing off when screen is off, but I rather not.
I didn't try it too much time, but with the app "Advanced WiFi Lock Free" it seems that the wifi still works when the screen is off.
However i tried it only a couple of minutes.

a little sad you need to use a 3rd part app for it, but I guess that'll have to do until Sony fix it
Thanx for testing it.
No problem, but its true.. a pitty that has to be an app, fixing this maybe with ics will be corrected... I was trying in the other modes now, like wifi on, only when connected, but it seems. That with this app, the wifi is always on, and not only when the tab is plugged..

Hey,
I'm looking for exactly the opposite. I want wifi off when i turn my display off. Is there an app for that? Because it seems to me that wifi starts sometimes again when i turn the display off even when I've adjusted my settings otherwise.

Hi,
I have problem with my Streak 5 running DSC 2.2.
Whatever I set for wifi (using adv settings in wifi networking - setting turni off to "never") and via dsc config (setting Wifi timeout to "1 day" and Wifi PM to "Off/Off" my wifi card is deactivated after couple of minuted of sceeen off. It automaticaly up when screen is back to on.
Is there any other place where I can change that setting ?
I'm not sure but I think that with DSC 2.1 I haven't had that issue.
if you are downliading something then wifi wouldn't stop e en after switching screen off
i open whatsapp or facebook then let the phone sleep..... it serves the purpose

I'm listening music over the wifi (sharing samba resources) and unfortunately, when sceen is off and phone is on battery music stops to play after few minutes (like 5 mins) and the play again when I turn the screen on.

while downloading torrents my fone sleeps for long but downloads completes successfully on wifi

Yes, that's an idea. I will update to DSC 2.3 then. And what if you are not downloading anything but you are just waiting for email while screen is off ? Will the wifi keep the connection ?
no while the downloading is paused or wifi is not being used it disconnects sometimes but this disconnection is much reduced after dsc config
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda premium
The WiFi disconnecting while the Streak is in deep sleep mode is a feature, not a bug. The purpose is to conserve battery life, and not letting the Streak enter deep sleep has been proven to severely affect battery life, as described in the thread for the CyanogenMod 7.2 ROM in Development. If you don't want the WiFi to disconnect, you need to prevent the Streak from entering deep sleep. Off the top of my head I don't believe either DSC ROM has a setting to disable deep sleep, but if you install Wake My Android Pro you can adjust the sleep mode that way. Just be aware that your battery life is going to suck.
Something that has been annoying me since the day I bought the tablet (LTE SPG 521)
When the tablet has been idle for a while, the WiFi turns itself off.
So whenever I pick it up without thinking, open chrome to start web browsing, I am connected to internet, and things are fine until I realise that I have been using 3G instead of WiFi.
Most of the time I need to go into shortcut quick access from pulling down top right corner and turn WiFi on.
Sometimes I need to go into WiFi settings and turn it on, even though the quick access shortcut says WiFi is on.
I do have stamina mode on, but have disabled every other power saving feature related to WiFi. In fact it is the same setting on my Z Ultra and Z1 Compact, but needless to say, I do not see this behaviour on my other sony devices.
But somehow on the tablet, WiFi does not auto connect, even in presence of a WiFi router that is set for auto connect.
Even If I was using the particular access point for WiFi connection, lets say I play games for about 30 minutes... the connection is lost and I need to go into WiFi settings to turn it on again (with the small slide to the right toggle switch within WiFi settings to turn on WiFi itself).
Anyone else experiencing this?
I would rather avoid it, since over usage on 3G for me means speed throttling later in the month...
P.S. Yes, I am on latest firmware 17.1.A.2.69
On Advanced WiFi, Keep wifi on during sleep is set to ALWAYS., avoid poor connection is turned OFF, and Wifi optimization is also OFF
Factory reset it? That's probably the first thing they tell you to do if you approach the technicians, if the problem still persist then demand for an exchange if not refund it.
I'd just bought mine today and unfortunately the bottom right corner the glass sticks out and it is pushable. I'm going to exchange it tmr.

Thanks for the idea, but no luck.
In any case each time I upgraded firmware, it should have sorted itself out, but problem still remains...
"Factory reset" is always the first "solution" you get by "technicians". Usually translates to: "Keeps the customer occupied for hours, silencing him."
Regarding the issue: I cannot confirm that, NO WLAN issues with my LTE Z2, it's just "always on", never losing the connection.

Do you have stamina mode ON?
With my other Xperias, the second I turn my screen on, the wifi is off/sleeping, but it launches and connects almost instantaneously. I guess the problem in my tablet is that it is not doing so, requiring me to do it manually...
I thought the FW for the tablet and the phone Z2 was the same? Maybe I should go and look in the forums over there...
I don't have the problem, either.
UPDATE
Problem Solved.
The cause was ad blocker app that I had installed, and it seems to me that whenever I was using certain apps that needed ad-blocking, all this thing would do is turn wifi off (but not 3g/LTE)
How Dumb is that?
Anyways, Wifi now always on even with stamina mode on.
Thanks for all who listened and threw suggestions!
Thanks
