LauncherPro MUCH Faster than Go Launcher on the View! - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi guys,
I recently purchased the EVO View 4G, mainly for the awesome pen input now that Honeycomb is working (and it really is awesome).
On my EVO 3D I use Go launcher Ex which works a charm and is super fast. However, I found that on my View it was painfully slow, especially things like browsing. With a 1.5 ghz processor I was wonder how the heck it could lag so badly loading web pages.
So, for grins I loaded up LauncherPro. All I can say is WOW, this thing FLIES now. Everything feels faster and lighter. Web pages load twice as fast with no hang.
So, if you have a View, are running Honeycomb and it seems slow, give LauncherPro Plus a whirl and see if you don't notice an instant difference.

Hey Mitch!!
It’s great to see you here.
I always enjoyed your input at MiksRoms.

I switch between Sense and GO Launcher-EX because I love the pen, but love the flexibility of Go Launcher. I see little or no difference in speed, they are both snappy as can be. Don't know what your launcher would have to do with your browser speed? Unless you are letting the launcher lock itself in memory and eat all the free space.

Yeah seemed weird to me as well. However, Launchers play differently with different OS versions. Could be that Go Launcher manages resources differently or something. Nevertheless, the performance improvement is marked.

Alternate Launcher with Hardware Acceleration

I love sense 3.0 but Im honestly tired of having 7 screens im a 3-4 screen type of person. I like using go launcher but When it comes to smoothness sense 3.0 has everything beat. Is there any alternate launcher that have hardware acceleration.
BTW i also dont like the way some of the sense widgets refresh
Launchers haven't really changed, just go with what you know is what I say
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
if you use launcher pro is smoother than an iphone. But somehow im loving sense even though it is really sluggish compare to lancher pro.

No way....LauncherPro is wayyyyy smoother. Hell, ADW launcher has never been smoother...in fact it has LP beat. LP's 4D app drawer stutters a little...but with the massive horsepower of this phone ADW is smooth as silk.
Sense has never been smooth for me on any phone ever.
Sense is quite the "pig with lipstick" compared to other launchers, has battery life been better for those of you switching to a different launcher?
not saying battery life is an issue, but a lil more juice never hurts

Tough to say...I've been screwing with the phone constantly, so, I've been plowing through the batter as fast as possible. That said, I'm getting such fantastic life out of the battery (considering how much I am using it) that I have no concerns for the battery...it's definitely _much_ better than my EVO4G...
...in another week or two we'll really be able to get an accurate measure of battery life. First of all we need to stop screwing with the phone every free second we have--that'll wear off by then. Plus we need to get a week or two of charge cycles under our belts. But something tells me, even bone stock, that we should be pretty happy with the results.

I use Go Launcher EX and it's pretty dang smooth. The speed of this phone really helps.
Launcherpro is buttery smooth. I very rarely ever see lag. I'm one that can notice even the slightest bit of lag and, this launcher is 99.9% lag free..
ADW looks badass.. I love the screenshots I've seen. I'm just not sure if it's worth shelling out the money to buy yet another launcher.

Any lag or fc on reboot like there was with cm7?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Unfortunately I've not had the pleasure of using CM7. I am very new to android.
ive tried adw and launcher pro however, i found that go launcher was the smoothest. plus they have a ton of cool transitions that are buttery smooth. I use it with the classic theme.

Laggy performance

This may have been mentioned here before, but I didn't find any threads about it.
I have been using the AT&T Note since about a week before it was available. I absolutely love my Note and it's the best phone I have owned. Lately, though, the laggy performance has been getting to me. There are little delays everywhere: Unlocking the screen, scrolling between home screens, opening messaging, etc.
Truth is, I never realized how bad it was until I started up my Skyrocket and started using it. The difference is night and day. I tried a few custom launchers, but the results are the same. I suppose it could be attributed to the higher resolution display, but the delays add up and get to be frustrating.
Seriously considering going back to my Skyrocket until ICS comes out for the Note. Anyone else have any insight? Is there something I'm missing? I'm pretty sure it's not any of the apps I have installed and I'm on stock ROM. I did notice that the available RAM is always low, even after a "clean RAM". Maybe that contributes to the overall sluggishness.

Haven't seen any other threads about lag around here either. But mine doesn't have the issues you discuss. OC and clean off the bloat and use a new launcher. Install a custom rom. If that doesn't satisfy you, get the international version or wait for the sgs III.

Mine was bad. Remove most system apps. Nearly everything Samsung and att. Install custom launcher, remove touch wiz, run support charger scripts, Flash custom ROM then OC KERNEL, done.

Thanks, guys. I was hoping not to go the custom ROM route, with ICS right around the corner, but it may prove necessary. Seems like it has the same bloatware as the Skyrocket, so with both at stock, I don't understand why the Skyrocket is so much smoother with so much more free RAM.
International Note isn't an option. No way I could give up LTE. I get 40-50 Mbps download consistently where I'm at.
Note all note created equal
I'm going through 4 note I exchanged 2 of them the last 2 got is very smooth and I'm still on stock rom not root

TSF Launcher, Launcher pro & Go Launcher. TSF has no lag, Launcher pro & Go are strange.. I'll explain.
I had my first Note, and the only Launcher pro had no lag, and not on my third note, it's go launcher that has no problems, and launcher pro lags a bit. TSF however is lag free. Dev support for TSF is terrible though.
I went through notes because of hardware issues, one the speaker busted, and the other had really bad color banding on dark screens.
I'm running go launcher, right now with little to no lag.
1.5ghz dualcore snapdragon s3 processors in both the skyrocket and note. The note has higher resolution which causes the phone to lag slightly more than the skyrocket. That is why the Exynos processor in the international is favored. If you dont want to flash a rom, try using a launcher from market. Im using launcher pro and theres less lag compared to touchwiz. Also uses less rams compared to tw.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I'd like to see an overclocked Snapdragon Note and overclocked Exynos Note go head-to-head. See which is the better performer at top overclock.
Even after Da_g's overclock I was a little perturbed over lag when scrolling with multiple widgets. I couldn't shake the thought of ICS's gpu acceleration.
I'm now running Saurom RC4 and the 1000hp V6 Supercharger script (I'm a noob, took me about half an hour of reading and execution tonight) and it's now running very smoothly. I'll have to see wait till tomorrow if the battery will improve any with the super script but right now it's junk. ( 3.5/ 4 hours screen time, which isn't bad if I except I'm between work contracts right now, so lots of free time and use this thing as my primary device all day).
I've also reinstalled Go Launcher EX after previously turfing it over lag, I'm now loving it.

So you're running STOCK with Go Launcher and you have less lag then with Touchwiz?
I had Go Launcher initially, but I don't remember it being less laggy. I did experience an extra battery drain from it, though.
I have been using my Skyrocket for a few days and it's incredibly fast compared to my note. I compared them side-by-side last night, launching the same apps and performing the same tasks and sometimes the Note would have a 1-2 second delay, where the Skyrocket would be instant.
Love the idea of the Note and the hardware, but the lag drives me nuts. I was hoping ICS would come out soon and the GUI hardware acceleration would fix it, but it looks like the update will be delayed, as usual.
you want 100% no lag, TSF Launcher.
Got my note last weekend and it has been pretty laggy at times. Last night I froze all the AT&T and Samsung bloatware. Didn't really expect any difference. I unlocked my phone for the first time and instantly noticed how smooth it was. The stock browser is much quicker than before and Touchwiz is now super smooth. I am rooted on stock kernal and ROM.
Is there a list somewhere of all the apps and processes that you can delete and stop from running? I'm all stock using Go Launcher. I wouldn't say I'm bothered by lag but I do get it occasionally. In total I have 27 applications listed under 'running'. 262MB RAM used, 354MB Free. This is immediately after reboot. Before I rebooted (calendar wouldn't open) I had about 100MB RAM free. So apparently I need to be sure to reboot occasionally to clear RAM, but I know there's much more I can do. I want to stay stock for now at least as I've only had this a week.

something a custom rom could fix?
heard good things about V2
just waiting on V2 before I do my first custom rom install
If your note is laggy I would do a reset, mine got real laggy about a week after I got it,the camera would actually take 10-15 seconds to snap a photo,I reset mine about 3 weeks ago and just ran side by side test with my skyrocket, some apps the skyrocket opens a flash quicker some apps the note opens a flash quicker, the note camera is actually faster then the skyrocket camera now.

Is the Flyer supposed to feel sluggish?

I picked up 2 Flyers recently from Cowboom and one of the first things I did was root and flash a custom rom. After setting everything up how I wanted it, I have come to find that the Flyer is sluggish in a lot of things, like scrolling around, switching apps, opening new apps, etc.
I understand that it's a single core processor but is this normal? I am running the latest LeeDroid rom.
Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Not it's not normal. It may be single core, but it's much faster than most single cores. It's fairly comparable to dual cores, and you can flash an overclocked kernel. Mine isn't sluggish.

Hmmm any recommendations on kernels? I flashed LeeDroid's kernel but haven't tweaked. Should I?
Opening the app drawer is obviously skipping frames, zoom in/zoom out too.. as well as browser scrolling.. extremely lagged.
Overclocking won't fix that. I don't know what you have loaded. Some people put 2000 animated widgets and 200 apps on a tablet, then say,"its laggy". Guarantee there ain't a device on the planet that won't bog down under that. If you are using it in a sensible manner it should be very snappy. The home screens and most of the GUI is rendered by the GPU so overclocking will do very little for you since the GPU doesn't overclock. That's also one of the big reasons that dual core devices don't perform any better. Try removing a bunch of apps and widgets and see how it behaves. If that doesn't work, Id try a different ROM.
Download Advanced task manager
Here is the Link :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.taskmanager&hl=en
It shows the RAM u got free. When i kill all my apps, i get about 400+ RAM free and then it runs very smooth. It becomes sluggish when you hit the lower 300's. So just kill unecessary apps and you won't have a problem. I supposed you could go back to Gingerbread (it uses less resources) or try a different honeycomb ROM like CoolHoney 3D. If you REALLY want smoothness and can live without the Pen and Camera, you should try the ICS ROMS. They still in developement, but most are functional and very very smooth.

The Flyer is sluggish. I have an Acer Iconia A100 also and it is much more responsive. I think that the culprit is Honeycomb and Sense combined.
Flyer running on the ICS ports is much, much more responsive but those ports cannot be used as daily drivers, IMO, at least for me.
For this reason, I hope either that the ports progress or that we somehow get AOSP ICS.
Honeycomb is garbage and Honeycomb with Sense slows things to a crawl.

I am on LeeDroid with sense stripped.. I'm pretty sure there are still components there, but coming from Samsung products I am not sure how involved Sense is compared to TouchWiz (Samsung's crap).
It's not that the tablet is slow, it is like it just has trouble keeping up sometimes. It's very hit or miss. I guess it's expected from a $150 tablet.
Seems to be personal opinion and maybe experience. I run the stock HC rooted and have no lag , no slow downs, no problems. Other complains of these. I had and sold my Acer A100 because i hated the screen on it. Found the Acer to be slower in almost everything compared to the Flyer. So your mileage may very.

The Flyer is fine for apps. It is the user interface that lags. This is very obvious when compared to the A100, especially now that the A100 has ICS. And, yes, the screen on the A100 is horrible (as is the build quality overall).
Well some people say this and I believe them, but its certainly not universal, and its certainly not obvious on my HC Flyer. I see no lag. Its very smooth and quick. I never had ICS on the A100, but the Flyer was clearly faster for most apps, as it should be with a faster base processor speed.
I'm going to try a different launcher and see if that helps. Are there any recommended HC launchers?

The HC notification bar is part of the system, not part of the launcher. You cannot safely eliminate it or replace it. There are some hack apps that hide it, but they can cause compatibility problems.

I believe you may be talking about the extra bar on top that many nonnative apps and launchers add to 7inch hc tablets. Unfortunately you'll just have to look around. I use xeam which allows icons up to the screen edges.
About laggyness: I experienced a huge amount of lag after some rom installs. This shouldn't be the case but leedros rom was very slow even after a couple months usage. I use the senseless hc rom now and its noticeably faster.
If you want to see blazing speed, downgrade and install the CM7 1.1 rom. I would switch in a heartbeat if pen worked properly.
Yeah I use the pen for work so I can't go to GB/CM/ICS, unfortunately
Are there any tablet-oriented UIs out? I do see that new one Chameleon but that's not out yet.. all of the launchers I'm finding are just larger phone launchers, like Go Launcher EX HD, ADW EX, etc.
I thought it was fast until I played with my bothers ipad and my dads playbook. Really smooth scrolling web pages and stuff compared to mine.
The best I managed to do was use setcpu to set the minimum cpu freq to like 800MHz, which helped.

Tell your father to throw anything blackberry related out of the house . Anyway, just install a custom ROM. DeSensified v3 and CoolHoney 3d V4 are the best two i tried so far, if you kill all running apps, you have about 400+ RAM free and only ocasional lag, but not on the UI. Keep in mind that honeycomb uses alot more resources than others and HTC just threw it together in a few min.

You can try VTL Launcher, it's not developed anymore afaik but works fine except for some occasional bugs. It's pretty much what I would want from a homescreen, very customizable, uses ADW icon sets and gives you the whole screen without any wasted space.

Phone Slows Down

Not sure if this is just me or everyone, but I noticed that when after flashing a rom and starting blank and fresh with no apps installed and with the HTC Sense pages at default with the preloaded widgets. At this point the whole phone is fast and very snappy and very smooth when swiping between different home screens. Even if you rotate the phone to landscape the phone rotates very fast.
BUT
As soon as I start installing my games and apps from the Play store, the whole phone just doesnt become snappy anymore. With 1GB Ram and Dual Core 1.5 GHz S4 CPU shouldnt the phone stay snappy no matter how many apps you have installed? This seems to be the case for every Sense phone.
It seems like the slow down comes when I start opening a couple apps and customizing the home screens. I tried down grading to 5 screens instead of 7 with a couple widgets such as the weather clock and I have my apps grouped into folders ect. At this point swiping between screens is a little jerky but if I keep swiping it goes back to being smooth.
My previous phones Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2 didnt have this problem. I could have all 7 pages maxed out with widgets and apps filling up each page and the phone would remain snappy with no lag.
I never been a fan of the Snap Dragon CPU. I had better experience with Exynos.

EXACTLY!
Yeah, im aware that I can switch to Nova launcher ect, but if that was the case, I would have kept my Galaxy Nexus. I want to beable to use the nice fancy Sense Widgets but the phone shouldnt have to slow down like it does.
I found this to happen on each rom I been on and I tried just about each of them in the Dev section. I havnt tried %100 stock because, soon as I got the phone I rooted and used a custom rom so im not sure if pure stock has this problem.
Maybe a Dev can chime in with a solution.
I can agree to an extent..no matter what though, this phone will always be faster than a galaxy nexus. (Don't know bout jellybean). That thing stuttered like a mofo when I was testin it.
Anyways, the phone tends to slow down and speed up at will. Could be a combination of cache or resources that sense needs in order for it to run that bogs memory. (Like adding different widgets, apps, etc) Sense just isn't well made like the pure android experience imo. It needs more fluidity within the system to run smoother and this is probably why you experience lag every now and then. Overall, I'm satisfied. It doesn't slow down too much. Still feels like a superior device even with its flaws (sense UI)

i noticed that too. my phone seems to be getting slower and slower. my gf's galaxy nexus with jellybean is much faster and smoother than my phone. i can't wait for cm10.
its not your phone, rom or sense. it's the play store. it happens on stock or rooted. even does it on my wife's 3D(stock unrooted). I blame it on when the play store changed over to the format it uses, now. even noticed it on her epic touch before I gave her my 3D. just my opinion I know. otherwise I have no lag.

I'm not sure what it is. All I know my Galaxy Nexus never slowed down with AOKP and CM and my Epic Touch was also always smooth. Can't say that about this phone. The camera is nice and screen is nice but can't say that about this Snap Dragon so far.
Well this damn phone flies with Nova Launcher..HTC should be ashamed of them selves for still continuing to have sense be as slow as it is.
And I'm afraid even project butter in jelly bean won't help because HTC will find a way to slow things down

I have absolutely no speed decrease what so ever. Stock or Custom Rom. Try uninstalling aps that you don't need system or data. Try locking sense into memory threw bp. That will definitely help IMO. Also how you set your phone up will always play a major role in performance. If anyone wants to know how I run mine to compare to there setup just hit me with a pm. I have over 40 apps installed and I have no lag in anything I do. This phone is a Monster lol. I've had the hero,evo4g,evo3d, and none of them can match the performance of this phone. Just my opinion.

Getting Lag on homescreen with ADW EX

Getting a bit of lag while swiping homescreens and in the app drawer with ADW. Anyone else? There's gotta be a way to fix it unless it's an issue with the app not working well with quad core procs. I thought maybe it was some sense crap slowing the phone down, but there doesn't seem to be any memory/processor hogs running in the background. Plus I have removed a lot of the bloat. It's not really that bad of lag, most people probably wouldn't even notice it, but I am really sensitive to framerates. I know it should run better than it is because it actually runs a lot smoother on my Gnex. Anyways, just wanted to hear from some other people who use ADW EX.

Getting a bit of lag while swiping homescreens and in the app drawer with ADW. Anyone else? There's gotta be a way to fix it unless it's an issue with the app not working well with quad core procs. It has to be the app because stock sense runs flawless on the DNA and has to be heavier than ADW. Contact the developer of ADW EX and maybe he will update it to work for quad core.
Just tried ADW no lag at all

I think it would more likely be because of the high resolution than the quad cores.
