Hi,
Ok so I decided to fix an annoying little rattle I had with the battery today. I opened up the 2 screws, slid of the cover and placed a little foam between the battery and chassis. Job done. Then I spotted a switch here

So I switched it (Yes the Tablet was off) and then I switched it back the other way. Put it all back together and attempted to power up. No good. Dead. Held the power button for 10 secs and still nothing. Plugged in the charger and lights flashed then could power it on. The battery was already fully charged and also indicated this when successfully powered on.
SO what did I switch ?
Sony Tablet S 16GB Wifi - rooted
Any one any ideas ?
Do you mean it works when plugged in? but not on battery? If so what percentage charge does it show - maybe try measuring voltage on battery - preferably direct if you can open the case again, or try some soft first - I saw som widgets etc measure voltage, temp etc - I don't use any of them so cannot recommend. I believe setting menu has battery status too but I believe it's just stating its state or something simple like that not the voltage.
It works perfect now, it only didn't switch on the first time till i plugged in the charger. Now it works fine all the time. If you look at the picture the word OFF is printed on the PCB next to the switch. I'm really just curious to know what it switches off.
wtf... could this be like a manual s-off switch?
Would you be able to re-post the picture? It's not showing up for me (could be the work computers though) Or a link perhaps.

I wanna check this out myself when I get home, but firstly, how deep did you have to go to get to this, and did the rubber feet go straight back in easily and stay inplace well? Don't wanna have them falling out all the time
Here you go
or here too
taking the rubber feet off was a little tricky. I used 2 nail files , one to push the rubbber from the edge of the hole and the other to lift it out. They are quite sticky and go back easily.
Check this out as it might help

I had a look at the pictures on the link above but still no mention as to what this off switch it for.
There is a switch inside the asus transformer that kind a looks the same and it is for the batery, when your device does not see your batery anymore than you can use the switch to deconnect and connect your batery again without removing it.
When the batery drops under a certain voltage the tablet wont reconize it anymore and than you need to do this.
I think when pulling the switch you"removed" the batery, that is way you had a scary startup after that
Is possible to add a better battery?
The battery is completley removable so it can be exchanged. Its only a matter of waiting for one of the after market battery makers to come up with a bigger battery to install.

This never happened on my phone before ICS. Any fix for it? This message came up as I was charging in-car. Someone told me he gets the same on VK rom.

Hi, i just posted a post in a different thread about this problem
Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520528
Try cleaning the USB port on the phone with a tiny brush or something, make sure there is no dirt, and also make sure the pin is aligned correctly in the USB port, mine went like this and I fixed it by tweaking with the USB port. But also have a look at the thread.
Chris.
solution idk if its temporary or no..
I dont know if its temporary or what are the other effects...
I figured out
On a dialpad type

Get a flashing battery icon continuously too.
In no connect USB cable, it show the battery icon like cable already connected! (lightning pic in the battery)
When I search in Google, I got forum.xda-developers.com
I understand the idea of problem, of my Hardware fault finding experience
I clean the USB port in (The Samsung galaxy 2) PDA phone
gently and I am connecting to charge or computer cable,
Straight,slow, careful, every time
Last 7 days no error popup coming !!!!

This has been happening quite a lot to many of the S2s all around the world from the looks of it. I think Samsung is using some cheap faulty material in their USB ports which is causing them to corrode/fail easily. I've changed mine completely once and had to pay for it since they conveniently categorized it under 'water contact with the phone' which they couldn't cover under warranty and I paid for a complete replacement. 5 months later and its happened again. Absolutely unacceptable. Please write in to Samsung and complain about this.
I just turned my phone on and now all it's showing is a gray screen (see image) below.
Even when I pull the battery, it "boots" into this. After some time I do hear the booting sound.
The phone is unlocked/rooted/s-off'ed.
When I boot with the volume button down it does show something, but it's unreadable (only showing the top 1/2 part of the 1st text line)
Anyone here who might have a clue what is wrong, and how to fix it?
Thank you.

It's the slenderman!
Lol no you probably need a new digitizer/lcd panel. That's my guess

Try booting into the boot loader and see if it still does that if not your rom has gone corrupt. Superwipe and reinstall.

Looks like the LCD is damaged or the connection ribbon for the LCD is loose.
What everyone's said so far is right. Your LCD is either broken or has a loose cable.
Send it in for repairs.
I don't see why they wouldn't repair it even if you are rooted, as this is their flaw, not a result of your rooting.
But to be safe, try and flash an RUU on the phone, for now.
Thank you all for the input.
It's still withing waranty, and will be picked up tomorrow for replair!
It's still rooted.. Let's see what they are going to say.
Will keep you guys updated!

Correct!
Great... NOT..
Today I noticed that the compass and GPS are not working!
Compass is stuck at the North, and GPS does not see any satellites (tested outside)
HTC will pick it up tomorrow.. again......

Hi all.
Looking for some advice about what to do with my replacement n10...
I asked for a replacement of the first as there was noticeable dimming down one edge of the screen, and Google were happy to RMA.
The replacement has a better screen but 3/5 times I go to turn the screen on it stays off, and takes repeated hitting of the power button (usually three times) to get the screen on.
I thought this may be a software issue but it occurred on both stock software and cm10.1,and didn't occur on the original one.
The question is;what do I do now? I have two faulty tabs, and the new one is worse than the original. I'm worried Google will receive either back and decide the faults aren't severe enough and charge the card restocking fees, or I will receive a third with faults. Have I just been unlucky so far?
It is worth noting that the original had the seals broken on the packaging and the replacement had one seal gone.
If the screen is nice you should do a warranty repair with Samsung. Call the number on your card in the box and press the phone option and then nexus s. That should get you a rep that can help you (the tablet people have no idea how to get an RMA number for a nexus tablet).
Conversely you could just get can other RMA. Then you run the risk of getting a worse screen.

Well I went ahead and tried the RMA lottery, and boy am I glad.
In the last couple of days it has become apparent that the battery on the replacement is absolutely broken. It doesn't report correct charging levels at all, and doesn't charge properly. This is on top of the power-on button issue (which I am sure is related).

The above battery stats screenshot was taken this morning after the tablet had completely died, and been on charge overnight, switched on this morning and left for ten minutes.
Totally loopy!
I had the same problem with mine. Good screen with broken battery management. Also it would take 20 seconds for screen to turn on after hitting the power button. It would power off when I took it off the charger or sometimes show dead battery with full charge. Hope your next one works out for you.
Hey guys,
recently my s2 died (wednesday). I suspect it was due to condensation.
anyway, today i put a battery in it after leaving it in rice, and it turned on.
however, the phone was hot, very hot actually and the battery life didnt seem consistant. eg. id put a battery in, itd say 80% then turn off the phone, turn it back on and itd say 9%. this is in the space of a couple mins.
ive got 3 batteries, and all showed similar things.

the above photo shows where the heat is coming from. its too hot to touch. it wasnt like this before.
it doesnt even need to be turned on for it to heat up. once a battery is inserted, its almost instantly burning.
anyone know what that is which is circled, what the possible cause for the excess heat is, and any solutions?
thanks
Hi, I believe the IC you have circled is for battery charging/control which in the s2 is a max8627. The IC could have failed or maybe one of the caps near it (which do look like they have some sort of residue on them).
Short of replacing them there might not be much you can do i'm afraid. If you are feeling adventurous and have a good soldering iron (a steady hand can help too ) give it a try.
Mike.

Hi, thanks for the reply. makes sense why it gets so hot now.
should of mentioned, thats not my photo. i found it on another thread, but its the same place thats heating up on mine.
i think i might give cleaning that area with isopropyl a try, although not sure if thatll make much difference.
edit- using the ic part number you mentioned, i came across this thread http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/sho...age-overheating-u503-(USB-OTG)-and-Workaround
which is exactly what is happening to mine.

Good find there. Sounds like this IC in particular is prone to failure after being shorted out. Will you be attempting this fix?
yeah, no other option really. getting a new phone soon, so thisll be handed down to a family member if it works fine after attempting the fix.
update-
just used a dremel with the smallest diamond tipped bit i could find, and wore the chip away.
the phone still turns on, and temps are not only feel different, but are reported as 31c (was 80c when the chip was present).
so a success!
Sorry for late reply glad it turned out to be that component and you managed to fix it.

Hi!
Weird case here. I used my Samsung Galaxy S9 plus as normal about a month ago when I ran out of power. I connected the original Samsung charger and chared it fully. When I powered up again there was no WiFi and no cellular network. I tried to: reboot, reset network settings, reboot again, but no luck. I then used about forever to tidy up images and files before I took a full backup and then reset the phone to factory defaults. All functions was normal, except no network. The reset to factory defaults didn't help either.
To I via the online shop made a support case - and sent it for repairs. I thougt this was a clear warranty case - phone beeing under a year and everything.
A couple of weeks later the workshop told me the damage could only happen if the phone was ran in a microwave oven. Well, it didn't. I have worked with computers and phones for more than 20 years - and of course I would not put it in the microwave oven. I do not have kids or anyone else that would do this as a prank on me.
And to be frank - I can not understand how the phone can be undamaged in all other aspects than the network antenna connectors beeing burned after running it in the microwave. I asked Samsung on the phone today if this was the case, but did not get a clear answer.
So do anyone know, is it even possible to ruin just the antennas with a microwave oven, leaving everyting else on the phone intact? Have anyone seen this happening?
And how can Samsung claim this is the only way this damage could have happened when it didn't?
I am so frustrated at Samsung!
Regards Tor Arne Pedersen
(at the moment an old useless iphone 5s is my phone ( )
The problem with the WiFi and Cellular network seems like a IMEI-Error. (You can see your IMEI in your Phone-Settings) I also think, that the first part, that would break in a microwave, is the USB-Port, because of the "open" wires.
Sorry for my bad English
Thanks. The wifi and cellular is burned all right. But nothing else. I got the pictures from Samsung now.

You have plastic melted, so I agree with Samsung. You did something =)
