Hi all, i am new on here, so let me know if this is the right forum to post this on.
i have a rooted vodaphone australia, I9100T Samsung Galaxy S2 running the stock 2.3.5 rom. it has a ChainFire Kernel installed.
i want to change the boot animation. so that instead of the vodaphone animation it shows this boot animation instead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693064
i have tried heaps of things, i have searched all over google, but i cant find anything about how to install on a S2, only other phones.
can someone please help me cos i am getting bored :-(
Thanks Heaps
Cheers CoreyB
You need to first have a kernel supporting custom boot animation such as siyahkernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838
Edit: 9100 and 9100T are same where it comes to ROM's and kernels mods and themes etc. There is just specific modems for the T version found in the shipped modem thread. Other 9100 modems may work as well, some better, most worse.
There are a few apps about that easily download and instal various boot animations. Some of many around.......

Hope this helps

Hi, thanks heaps, that rom toolbox is great, it has loads of great bootloaders, and it has all the features i have been trying to download seprately (cpu overclocker ect).
the other bootanimation changer does not work on the SGS2.
and the rom toolbox wont let me install my own custom rom, you have to install the ones it comes with. and i really want the android pissing on apple bootanimation lol.
i have copyed the zip file to system/media/bootanimation
but when i start the phone up, where the is normaly the vodaphone bootanimation, the is just a black screen, and then it turns to the lockscreen.
can someone help me figure out how to add a custom bootanimation
Thanks heaps to anyone who can help
Cheers Corey
1. Samsung is a little different, and I am pretty sure you need to have a kernel that supports custom boot animation, such as I posted above.
2. Before that, you can backup and rename your original bootanimation.zip ( to .bak).
3. Make sure the bootanimation.zip has "permissions" (mount r/w first)
Or,
4. Flash the attachment manually in CWM Recovery (wipe cache and advanced/dalvik first)
5. If it still dosn't work, back to step one.
Hit the "thanks" when you have time.
Edit: Credit to checkROM for the CWM .zip and original dev for the anim

Is there a link to explain how to delete or change the stock start up pink screen on the T959 Vibrant? I hate it.
Root the phone then put download Rom Manager and titanium backup. The download a custom rom and flash that....... you will never see the pink screen again.
You need to read more, alot more.........
WHAT ????
ya ya ya done all that , done all the reading, done a lot of roms, done a lot of rooting ........
your assumption is "all" rom make new boot screens I guess?????
guess not. go load Project_V & see what I'm talking about.
i'm looking for answers, not rebukes.
Never been on Project V and i dont even remember stock but theres 3 startup images usually ~Bootloader, kernel, bootanimation. I doubt its bootloader
If its Bootanimation is located in /system/media/bootanimation.zip just swap for something else or put "debug.sf.nobootanimation=1" in build.prop for no boot animation at all
Or it might be the kernel boot picture, change kernels since i dunno where kernel image is stored, Bullet is good
Root rom boot animation.
sent from my Sensation XD
replace the boot animation. and delete the shutdown animation. thats what i did. im currently on project v.

Hey guys,
I've seen some people asking for numbered battery mods for stock or StreakDroid4 2.5.0 ROMs so I put together a simple theme (thanks to UOT Kitchen) and wanted to share it with anyone who is interested.
The theme simply changes the look of status bar and the icons, battery, system menus, adds new Roboto font ( from ICS), ICS window animations and Blue Android boot animation. Also, due to Raven 2 kindly allowing us use some files from his theme, you will now get ICS-like Phone, Contacts, Gallery and Calendar apk. I'm attaching some screenshots so you can get a visual idea.
I'm running on StreakDroid4 2.5.0 but it may also work on the deodexed or stock 408 ROM.
As usual, I do not take any responsibility for any issues that the process may cause - proceed with caution
To install:
1.Download the zip file below
2. Flash via CWM
Big thanks to TheManii for his ROM and Raven 2 for letting us use his files in this theme.
Just in case you were wondering, the screen lock on the first image is Widgetlocker which isn't free, but you can download MagicLocker or MiLocker that have similar look for free. The launchers I used in the shots (just to show different looks) are Go Launcher EX (with ICS theme) and Espier Launcher both are free too. Also shown and used is another free app - Widgetsoid.

Thanks!

Also, if Raven ever comes back to the site I would like to ask him if we can use his themed Phone and Contacts apks that have an ICS look and I will include it in this theme.

Your language is fine, no worries. Thanks for letting us use your files. I'm going to update the OP and attach the new theme file.
I'll try it out on my deoxed 408 and see how it goes. I just put TeamDRH ICS on my Viewsonic GTab (no thanks to Viewsonic - you suck) and would like a consistent interface across devices
Cool, let me know how it works/looks. It isn't the actual ICS UI but the color scheme and other mods at least remind you of one
It works great! I flashed with CWM, cleared cache & delvik, and fixed permissions for good measure. I especially like the battery icon. Now to find a way to port ICS over to this and we will be set. Maybe our new Korean friends are working on that?

Nice, glad to hear that. Yes, I agree about ICS port or a new ROM from our Korean friends would be great. I think one of their main contributors Kukjin11 is going to upload his ROM in a couple of days, so we will see from there

hey guys iam having the 408 olleh gb running on my phone with ravens theam on top of it..
can i upgrade it to ics them here.. if yes do i have to rename the file that has been given here....
if possible can some one please write the steps since iam very new to this stuff...
thanks alot guys..
hey crainz,
Do you have CWM installed? Are you on deodexed stock 408 ROM created by TheManii? The theme was based on deodexed ROM files from StreakDroid4 2.5.0 (which I use) and I believe it works on the deodexed 408 stock - both of which put together by TheManii. I don't know for sure if it works with a normal odexed ROM - so let's hear from TheManii or anyone else who can verify.
If you have CWM installed, you can easily flash files, like the StreakDroid4 2.5.0 which is basically stock with tweaks and debranded (so no Olleh stuff) and then flash my theme. I recommend you install Titanium backup and back up your apps and data so when you install a new ROM you can restore (or import) you saved data like passwords, shortcuts, game levels, and so on.
Edit: Here's the XDA Wiki page that TheManii created which has the links to SD4 2.5.0 and CWM Recovery downloads:

If you have CWM installed then you can go ahead and install StreakDroid4 2.5.0. However, you would need to do a factory reset first so back your data up using Titanium Backup (this is a free version) and then you can restore all your apps and data once you flashed SD4. After that just flash ICStock theme and you're good to go.
Thank a lot for the information streak4m3
Just 2 more question before i start the process of upgrade.
1. when i installed the CWM using this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423002
Ans started the phone i was able to get the CWM to work. But once i shut down the phone again and try
You switch mute to OFF hold both volume buttons down and power on. You will see a menu with 3 options, choose the one to upgrage SW package and choose with the camera button.
iam getting the Blue colour screen. iam not getting the CWM options.
Is this how it is suppose to work or am i doing something wrong.
2.Once i have flashed StreakDroid4 2.5.0 after renaming the file to upgrade.pkg.how do i flash the ICS theam?? IF you could kindly give me the steps that would be great..

OK, first of all you're not supposed to rename SD4 2.5.0 to update.pkg
Let's make sure I understand you correctly. You're saying that you have (or had) CWM installed and you verified that it works (worked), right? That means that you can (could) get to CWM recovery and see all the options, like: reboot system, install zip, wipe cache partition, advanced and so on, correct?
Are you now saying you can't get to CWM recovery? That it somehow goes to Dell stock recovery option which is blue (I think)? CWM mode has blue color text too so that's why it is a little bit confusing.
If you somehow lost CWM recovery just install it again and then simply flash SD4 2.5.0
i have seen the option that come with CWM reboot system, install zip, wipe cache partition, advanced and so on...
This comes once i have installed it using the instruction listed in the post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1423002
i even was able to create a back up the rom on my system using CWM.. which got listed in the sdcard as well.
but once i shutdown the phone and start it again i dont get that CWM again it comes up with the blue dell flash tool.(which is in blue colour again) just like CWM
Just wanted to know if this is the same that happens in you case as well or are you able to get CWM evertime.
(if i install it again Iam able to get it to work once and them again back to the dell flash screen)
Just wanted to know if there is a way by which we can get it permenantly to work without having to flast it again and again..

CWM should be there every time - it's a permanent thing. You can install it again and flash SD4 2.5.0 during that one time that you can get into CWM recovery.
hey
Here is what i did. I flashed SD4 2.5.0 on my phone using CWM.. all went well
Then i flashed your ICS theme.. and restarted the phone.. that went well as well.
But what i did after that was i reset the phone to default using the option in settings.
The phone just stoped working completly.
It got stuck at the Blue Andriod startup... I tryed to do the process all over again...
No luck.... I think i have messed up my phone completly.
But before i started doing all this what i did was i took a back up of my phone using CMW..
So when restored the system back all came back using CWM the phone was back and working again...
What did i do wrong..... and is there any better way of doing this???

Not really sure what exactly may have happened in your situation. So are you up and running again? And why did you want to do a factory reset after flashing SD4 2.5.0?
If you're phone is not up and runing right now then you need to get to CWM if you can and just reflash SD4 and the theme. If you can't get to CWM, then you need to restore your phone using TheManii's steps in his thread for unbricking your phone (basically you would need to flash via fastboot options).
Hey guys, I know back to soon asking questions for help but honest I couldn't find guides on how to install roms and that I sort of had questions..
1. Will flashing CM 9 rom the stable one have any draw backs on my device? like some apps/function not working, I wanna know..
2. I'm on gingerbread 2.3.3 right now CM 9 is based on ICS, so my question is what do I need for this rom to install on my phone..
3. I've only rooted with CF-root method and I am totally a noob I just rooted to run GS2 repair app cause I somehow had messed up my EFS which I hav fixed now.. so I'm totally a noob and definitely need a guide.. can someone please help me out it would mean a lot to me..

1. No. However, Samsung proprietary apps will not work with CM9
2. Since you have ROOT, we can get to work now.
I'll post steps soon
3. You are lucky you got it fixed. Do you have backup of your /efs now?

Well Sir I have the back up from GS2 repair that initially backed up my corrupted folder and then began the process of replacing the original files with .bak files which worked, I backed up my efs folder again and now I have a copy of it on the PC.. I'm not satisfied to call it a back up... so I'll love it if you help me with that too, right now my phone is totally alright.
Thank you so much for helping me out.

To backup your /efs again, visit: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
Although optional, I recommended you flash a Samsung based ICS 4.0.3 ROM before flashing CM9.
I recommend Wanamlite ROM. Download Wanamlite 12.0 here: wanamlite.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=26
Visit CM9 thread, download ROM and Gapps here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419102

Sorry bro for late reply, I've been very busy.
Step 1:
We will need to flash the Samsung ICS ROM (Wanamlite), you downloaded first, like I recommended
- boot to CWM recovery
- backup your present ROM
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- format /system (under mount and storage)
- flash Wanamlite ROM you downloaded
- reboot phone
Use the phone for about 30 minutes to 1 hour then proceed to step two
Step 2:
We will now be flashing CM9
- boot to CWM recovery
- backup your present ROM (optional)
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- format /system (under mount and storage)
- flash CM9 ROM
- flash gapps
- fix permissions (under Advanced)
- reboot phone
Please report feedback.

I'm so sorry for replying late.. I sort of had gotten busy..
so anyhow I did as I was instructed and first installed the wanamlite rom, everything worked smoothly however I didn't like the rom one bit.. it was laggy and boring..
after a little time I decided to install cm9 which was a nightly and after doing everything it didn't work the phone was stuck on the start, I reverted back to the wanamlite rom and then downloaded the stable cm9 and installed it and it worked like a charm and it wasn't that laggy at all,
however after installing it I immediately started to missing some of the samsung features such as, screenshot with home and power button, the choco cooky font and the ringtones, but I love the fact that the vibration was restored which I some how had weakened on my phone (I love texting with that)..
now I've come across new issues and I wanna restore my ability to change brightness from screen, screen shots and of course change the font.. I'd be beyond happy if you can help me out with that...
right now I wanna say thank you so much for helping this noob :3 your the best.

About your problem:
-brightness slider, screen shots (from power button) all can be found under settings, just go there and tweak your device as you please
-Rom Toolbox lite, a free app can help you change your fonts to whatever font you want, and lot more
good luck
I just came here to tell I had found the brightness option in the settings he he Okay now I really like this rom, its lovely.. yeah some little problems but I love it!
and about the font application its safe to use?.. I know very annoying question but I'm just asking cause Its really not that important for me to have a custom font :3

I've not heard a single complaints account that that app since I've been recommending it.

Well I tired the app worked great for the first two tries but on the third I got stuck on the boot loop, quick googling saved me the horror of starting over as I simply reinstalled the rom without doing any wipes and I'm back on the phone..
yeah on the third try I decided to apply the font I wanted which resided in the system fonts it was by a different name however after the reboot I was stuck..
There could be many reasons behind it.. but I think I shouldn't go taking too much risks over a stupid font..
I rooted my samsung for the first time Friday (worked out great). I just installed Rom Toolbox Pro & was looking through the features (I should of backed up first thing!) & decided to install a custom boot animation (big mistake!). The boot animation worked fine but even though the phone boots up & actually works, the screen is stuck in the boot animation state & will not bring up the home screen.
I've tried everything (actually learned quite a bit) using CWM to install boot animation disable zips, clear all kinds of caches, & even clear data & factory reset (lost everything). Even used odin3 to install Jelly Bean (originally ice cream sandwich 4.0.4.) & still this f$%^ing boot animation will not clear off the screen.
The phone still works to where I can answer & if I flip it on the side I can use the voice app with the home key to see half the screen (scrolling is a pain) but if I click to the home screen the dam boot animation takes over the whole screen again.
The firmware updates & zip files don't work. Is there a full android system out there to restore it or some way easy to get my home screen back. I really don't want to turn it to a brick if possible.
Thanks for all your help

is it Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 or I9305 or verizon ?
try this

1. If you haven’t already, you should check whether or not your phone is able to play custom bootanimations.
2. Download this bootanimation.zip, I’ve made only for testing, and place it in /data/local or /system/media folder. Or flash this with CWM: CWM_CustomBootanimation_Test.zip
3. Reboot, and if it’s still Samsung original booting sequence, it’s not enabled.
4. If you have a Samsung (touchwiz) based rom (stock), you can easily enable it with my cwm flashable zip, attached to this post.
5. Download both CWM_CustomBootanimation_Enable.zip and CWM_CustomBootanimation_Disable.zip, and place them at your internal sdcard. The reason I say you should get both, is because when trying out different animations, it can easily mess up the boot. If that happens it’s quite simple to just reboot into cwm, flash the disable zip, reboot, replace the animation with a working one, and reboot into cwm again and flash the enable zip. Should be easy for beginners.
**The test animation works for both ICS and JB**
Minimum requirements:
- CF-root with CWM
- Busybox
This has been reported working on:
[ICS]4.0.4 --> [JB]4.2.1 --> [JB]4.2.2 --> [JB]4.3
i9300, i9305, Sprint, Verizon and i747m devices.
Galaxy Note II - N7100
Galaxy Grand - i9082
And should in theory work on all other samsung android devices.
UPDATE:
made two new flashable zip files, that should work for 4.2.1.. it uses the AOSP "bootanimation"-file, that already has the "bootanimation.zip"-method implemented..
EDIT: it has been confirmed that this works for the 4.2.2 as well..
UPDATE2:
if anyone is having issues having the Anbech-folder on internal sdcard, and cant remove it, then try flash the "CWM_RemoveAnbechFolder.zip"-file from the attachments..
UPDATE3:
made 2 new flashzips:
Code:
CWM_CustomBootanimation_43_Enable.zip
CWM_CustomBootanimation_43_Disable.zip
they should work for any 4.3 sammy rom. make sure to get both files, as the disable-flashzip is handy if anything gets messed up
UPDATE4:
2 new flashzips:
Code:
CWM_CustomBootanimation_44_Enable.zip
CWM_CustomBootanimation_44_Disable.zip
let me know how they work out, as i cant test them myself
if just half of those who uses my work, would hit the thanks-button, i would be very happy

Thanks! I've looked for my full stock firmware for my model which is GT-I9300 but I'm in Alaska. The provider used international models which I don't know which to use. Will the FCC ID or SSN help?
There

FULL GUIDE TO STOCK ROM (WARRANTY STATE)
Read very carefully as this process can kill your device
Happy flashing and let us know if you got rid of this boot animation
ok, if you still can access your phone thats good news because i can hep you get your phone back to normal mode without harming any of your files or anything... what you need is a rooted (preferable identical to yours) android device.
1) in the second working device, use the filemanager of your choice that has root access and copy the file in system/media/bootanimation.zip to an accessable location in an ext sd.
2) since you can use your phone, install the app bootanimation changer in both the phones, use the second phone for navigational purposes... it helps you to see where you are in your misbehaving phone.
3) insert the sd card with the copy of the boot animation to the malfunctioning phone and start the device
4) open bootanimation changer in both phones, and using the working phone change the animation of the malfunctioning phone and you good to go!!:good:
get back for anything you didnt understand... hopefully it helps.
Hi all! I have a slight issue.. So my sisters phone is rooted and on offical kit-kat NAB.
I tried to install @kevinrocksman's hypnotoad boot animation, flashable through twrp. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467543
It didnt work and after the Note 3 screen it stays black till it boots up. I figure it is because the phones only on stock rooted, and that uses a bunch of weird .qmg files. I cant restore the nandroid for several reasons so thats not an option. So I tried the following troubleshooting steps to either get the hypnotoad to work or restore the default sprint sound and animation.
1. I manually pushed the hypnotoad bootanimation.zip into system/media and changed permissions. no go
2. Then in hypnotoad aroma installer I installed it again. Still no go
3. In aroma I tried restore default feature, the sounds back but no yellow sprint animation
4.I deleted the bootanimation.zip in system/media. no go
.5.On the thread @shabbypenguin commented. Posting an enable bootanimation.zip to have the phone look for .zips instead of .qmg. I flashed it. (http://www.mediafire.com/download/xlbsop29q44vlco/Enable-Bootanimation.zip)
6. Then I tried twrping the hypnotoad aroma boot ani again, hoping shabbypenguins enable bootani will make it work. Nada
7. I tried restoring default again through aroma, still boots with sound but no yellow sprint animation.
So if anyone has an idea to either get the hypntoad to work or get back the defualt boot animation, that would be GREATLY appreciated.
I know it was probably dumb to try on stock rooted sorry, but my sister is stuck with no bootanimation, and she does not want to flash a new rom
So thanks

Ive read the whole thread, and the comments. I believed it would work because I have been on several stock Samsung based roms, and all of either the flashable.zips or manually pushing to /system/media have worked fine. Im even currently on AOSP and pushing the monster attack bootanimation.zip to system/media worked perfectly. So I believe my error lies in possibly two things. Either..
A.these bootanimaton.zips are not NAB compatible; which would seem odd because as far as I know bootanimation.zips are fairly universal. It worked on AOSP just fine
B. Or since this is stock STOCK rooted, the system files have not been configured by a dev to allow changing bootanimation.zips.
If it is scenario B, which i think is more likely, then a solution would be to flash a custom built Nab rom, right? I would think if I flashed Freezas stockISH rom it would be too stock and the boot ani system files would be the same situation. Which is why im thinking @sac23 s kit-kats v1 nab rom would allow me to change bootanimation.zip. Do you think this would be accurate?
I did some further digging and I believe I may have found a way to be able to push bootanimation.zips and have them work even on stock stock roms.
What do you think of this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50218786
I gather if I push the bootanimation.bin in OP and replace it with the current one in /system/bin it will enable me to change bootanimations just like normal. You probably would have a better idea then me, do you think this is an accurate conclusion?
Thanks :good:

samsung has been using qmg files since before the SGS1, this http://www.mediafire.com/download/xl...tanimation.zip should enable it. it swaps out the bootanimation binary for one looking for .zip's. it may not work if they are still using samsungani
