Just read through too many threads and now in a state of OVERLOAD! lol... Anyway, I just ordered my new transformer prime (2/11/12) and it should be here on Tuesday.
My question is, "Are the new Primes, that are rolling out now with 4.0 installed from factory, having all these issues with WiFi / Bluetooth and GPS"? All the posts i have read seam to be user upgrade issues.
Sorry if i am wrong and posted a duplicate thread. I am alllll frazzled now and was really looking forward to my $$$ Prime purchase
Thanks,
Lee
Most likely it will be the same for you, I hope not, but its not software related. Its hardware related causing the problems with the prime.
Ah man, what a huge bummer. So it's pretty much hit or miss? Some people getting lucky having no issues? I have read a few good posts (cant remember url, maybe here), that some market apps were causing system crashes like Google + and Google Maps. I guess those issues are not related to Wifi / GPS, but are causing system instability and such. Well, my plan will be to first use the tab as is for a while before installing anything. See how it runs bare bones, etc... I will rely heavily on Wifi... Is the Wifi issue only when paired with keyboard (BT), or all the time? I was so psyched for this thing, now bummin...
The WiFi issue is all the time for me. The WiFi never drops completely out it just doesn't do very good like the signal is about half of my cell phone that's why I don't like it. I can hardly get a signal upstairs it drops to 1 bar. I haven't even tried it paired but I do see it paid to DTVBluetooth I don't even know what it is, Probably my Samsung 51" 3D? matter of fact I'm about to Google that, you just reminded me of that. I got a lot of electronics in my man cave so it hard to tell what DTVBluetooth is? I was going to check into this before but forgot.
3.2.1
well mine came with honeycomb and after reading many boos about upgraded problems i'm half sorry to say that i wish mine came with ics already on it, though if that were the case it'd have been a different model and might have had worse issues than a non working gps only.
i can happily sacrifice working gps for the ability to say everything else i've tested works very well.

Thanks for the replys, i will keep you posted. Tab should be here tomorrow...
slight thread hijack. My wife is going to new York (live in Edinburgh) in a month and was thinking of getting her to get me an ATP. Is there any reason not to have a US prime in the UK?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
Not sure, but i would definitely look into the UK receiving an unlocked boot loader in the near future. I cant remember where I saw it on the net, but def. did. That's the word, and if it's true, do NOT buy one from N.Y. Wait for the unlocked boot L.
Newer Prime's should have better QC and less issues per unit produced but in the end based on my experiences here. Also note well that they're not going to change the entire tablet.
At the idea of a US Prime in the UK....my US model has English (United Kingdom) available in the Language & Input settings so I think it should work fine, as long as you get a UK dock instead of an American one. Not sure how it would impact firmware updates though but should be fine if you don't mind whatever has already come across for people with update issues.

I bought my tablet about two weeks ago at best buy and I'm happy to report no issues with my tablet. The build of it was good. No light bleeding unless you press down hard where the lights are on the side and I have not seen a WiFi issue yet.
Over all, I've been happy with my tablet and I didn't even know it had issues till I started reading the Transformer prime section for this tablet on XDA. +1 for the TP.
I got my Prime on 2/8 from Best Buy. I didn't take any OTA's until I rooted using Viper's tool. After rooting, I updated to ICS. I have had no issues with wifi. I get signal and it doesn't drop for me. Haven't tried GPS but I am not all that concerned about it. Just waiting for the bootloader to be unlocked and custom roms to come out!
I can't seem to find anyone who has these in stock via local B&M retailers nor online. Guess the price to be paid for being popular is inability to keep pace with demand.

OfficeDepot appears to have the Transformer Prime in stock.
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/906853/ASUS-Eee-Pad-Transformer-Prime-TF201/
If you order it, I would suggest you pick up a 2nd charger as well and save on shipping.
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/768723/ASUS-Power-Adapter-For-Eee-Pad/
I ordered mine from Office depot. Got it in about a week with standard shipping. However, I am heavily considering sending mine back. There are spongy spots on the edges of my tablet on all four sides.
Also, they pack HORRIBLY... I received my tablet in a manila envelope with only one side bubble wrapped. The Envelope was beaten to heck and back and my box was pretty badly beaten up as well. Not sure if that may have been the cause of the sponyness on the screen or if tons of other people are noticing that as well.
Otherwise, I have not had a problem with ANY other part of my tablet. Wifi is strong and the ICS update went perfectly.
I have ordered from Office Depot multiple times and I haven't had any problems. I didn't order my tablet (got it from Bestbuy) but I have ordered a bunch of accessories and such and they all came reasonably well packed.
Received my new Prime today 2/13. My second one. It's a C1, came with HC and as soon as I logged on to my network it wanted to update. I let it and it did one update and showed ICS 4.03 build 9.4.2.13. So apparently they've rolled all the updates into one for new devices. Then I got the small camera update and that was all. I'm letting it charge and am almost afraid to go into another room to test the wifi.
Thanks, but did check OD and they're showing out of stock.
Interesting - NewEgg had been listing it as "out of stock" but is now marked as discontinued or specifically "Deactivated. This item is currently out of stock and it may or may not be restocked."
bought mine a month ago, came with HC, upgraded right out of the box to ICS and my wifi and blue tooth work great. GPS is spotty, but only tested once as i dont use it for that. I stream HD videos over wifi while using bluetooth headphones all the time and have not once had an issue.
Well, got mine today from BB. The order took a week. Rep said they had a shipment coming in anyway. When i picked it up this morning, i asked how many they had and she said, "None now", lol. Some shipment! Just mine... Anyway, right out of the box the firmware update started. I didn't run it yet, guess im a little nervous. So far the tablet is super sweet! Glad to report, no issues at all
Lfnsr, I didn't know we could root and still update OTA..? That's awesome man. what's the deal with that? I must have been left in the dark the past year. My only experience with Android in general is with my Droid X. Of course i had that thing tweaked, so i do have some exp. Any info you have pertaining to TP, rooting, updating etc... would be greatly appreciated.
Bgm307, How is everything since the ICS update? Honeycomb is running so good, i'm afraid to update....?
Thanks everyone for the info. I was really upset waiting for my TP after reading all the negativity here on XDA. I hope some of you reply about ICS. I'm itchin to run it, lol...

It's great actually. Like I said earlier, it went straight to ICS 4.03 build 9.4.2.13. No glitches, no crashes, no battery problems. Put it to sleep last night at 62% battery. This morning, 6 hours later I'm at 61%.
I just can't make myself walk into another room and test the wifi. Guess I have to do that this morning.

I felt very fortunate last week when HHgreg apparently priced the prime incorrectly for $399.00. I immediately ordered one online and my local store had it in stock. First thing I did when I opened it up was to check for the ICS update and it started downloading it. My battery was at about 27% when the update started downloading and at around 20% when I attempted to install. After the install was complete I had the same issue as many others in that the screen banding was happening and so I called HHgreg to see if I could exchange it. The reason I mention battery % was that I had read somewhere that if the update was completed on a low battery that it could cause the issue that I experienced. They had one more in stock and allowed me to exchange. The next one I received was one with the serial number issue that would not even recognize there was an update available. I am now waiting on my third tablet to arrive but wandering if I should keep it. I hate to take it back seeing I got it for 349.00 after the 50.00 coupon but I dont see to many comments of people who are having no issues and are completely satisfied with the tablet. Please comment if its possible to have a prime that is functioning properly.
I also purchased my TP from HHgregg for 399. but i waited before I upgraded to ICS. I was nearly charged or i might have been fully charged. But the only Issue is my gps. wifi works from 35- 40 feet from the router anlong with my other 3 device's I use in my house. Been playing agry birds for hours not problem at all. Only once did it show that Baning issue when I started using the camera after the 4th picture it started. I shut the app down and restarted the prime. No problems using the camera app again so far. Never had a screen issue either. Ialso tested the wifi with my home router and my htc sensation how spot. both work fine.

I love mine, it works BETTER after ICS and it's your own fault you got impatient and borked your first one. Us with working Primes don't come on here and *****.
We just watch everyone else and try to help when we can. Maybe it's karma that the second one didn't work...cuz you screwed up your first one.
So respect the equipment. Either way if you wait or don't, it's a nice tablet.
willowwave,
your probably right , I was very anxious to update because I've been using an Acer Iconia for a couple of months now and was really looking forward to the update. Has nothing to do with respect for the equipment, whatever that would mean, just didn't know it would cause an issue with the update. Really I'm not trying to *****, I've just read so much negative and not enough positive about the tablet. Thanks for your letting me know that yours is working perfectly. By the way, I do not believe in Karma, I would say its more likely providence.

It's not his fault that he got two units that wouldn't update correctly. While it's true that it's best practice to do upgrades either plugged into the mains or fully charged, if the tablet didn't actually run out of charge in the middle of the update I don't see how that could affect anything.

Todd don't listen to him you did nothing wrong I updated to ICS as soon as I got my new one from HHGrregg with 20% battery life and it works perfectly fine with no lockups something is different in some Primes making this happen we just don't know what that is until Asus owns up to it.
PrimeTimeBro, thats good to hear, I really want to keep the device but unfortunately I've received two bugged devices. Hope that the next one is solid.
I had no problems with my TP during or after ICS install. There are other problems - but they had nothing to do with the firmware update.
No problems here.....other than dropping off my desk and cracking the screen in 2 places.
DAMN IT ALL TO HELL!!!!!!
Not your fault.....you just got 2 bad ones. I updated mine at 20% and have had no issues. Just return it and get one that works.....350 is still a lot to pay for a tablet that can't be updated.
I have returned two as well. Both had screen issues. I am still hoping to get a good one. I ordered two just in case this time from best buy. If i get 4 bad tablets I'm not sure what I will do... I really wish another company had the nice matching docks. I suppose i would continue this until either best buy bans me from buying more or the tf700 is released and i start the process over.
Don't worry, you will get one. Just keep returning them if there is problems. Asus will not tighten qc if people keep problem tablets. I am sure they directly correlate the % they accept as defective during manufacture to the number of returns they get.
I've yet to notice any problems with mine caused by the update. The only problem is that GPS still doesn't work lol but I wasn't expecting it to be fixed either.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the GPS works with WiFi, stuffs, but I can't connect to any satellites. Nothing new lol.

Rofl this is classic I like your thinking
Fully Functional since day 1 with honeycomb. Still fully functional after ICS. WIFI is fine and GPS is shocking. Apart from a slight back light bleed in top right corner everything is great.
I feel sooo fortunate that i have a working Prime after reading pretty much every thread dedicated too faulty devices.
My name is Optimus Prime and I send this message..
one works great before and after the update. if you wanna read more about good devices, just read the Positive Transformer thread on General section.
Gotta admit, you're pretty nice and all, giving Asus so many chances.
I received a Champagne gold unit from Amazon, charged the battery up, connected to my Wifi and got the ICS update notification.
It loaded with zero problems and I have had no problems with it since then.
I cannot say if my TP has GPS issues because I have no expectation of using GPS on a Wifi only product. (.02)
No probs here just had one reboot using some app cant remember what
Just got to get a good case and protector from uk
I did have a few lock ups and random reboots after ICS, but a factory rest took care of all that. No issues anymore.
i still havent updated my hhgregg to ICS due to some games not running correctly. one of which is dead space. Once i finish that then i will probably update and hope i dont run into any issues.

I like the TF201 because I want a tablet with a docking keyboard AND because its thin, light and has excellent battery.
Here are my questions:
1. Is there any other tablet with a good keyboard dock? I dont want bluetooth ones that drain the battery.
2. There has been news about the aluminum back causing WiFi issues. Is this true? (I dont care about GPS).
Please answer these questions and I think I would know whether to buy the tablet or not. The news about all the issues is a little scary and mixed reviews dont help. So I need to hear from real users and get some opinions.
I have the regular Transformer (not Prime) and it is pretty much identical in form factor.
I love mine, but my Prime is at the local UPS and will be delivered tomorrow. I'm giving my original Transformer to my wife, but am very reluctant to part with it before my keyboard comes in. I've gotten spoiled.
So if the form factor is what you're primarily interested in, you can save $100 or so by going with the OG Transformer. The only real difference is the Prime is a Tegra 3 SoC (4 cores +1) and the OG is a Tegra 2 (2 cores).
Buy PRIME!! Tegra 3 >> Tegra 2 for only 100$!

And roll the dice on quality control issues.
I'm not telling him NOT to do it, but I am advising him to make an informed decision. Buying a Prime 4 months from now, after the GPS and WiFi issues have been resolved (now that we know to curse the pogo pins) would be a much smarter move. Especially if he has someone to bequeath the OG Transformer to.
Or w8 for 2 months ans buy whatever awesome 4core comes out!

WAIT!!
I can only tell you that I am waiting until more of the bugs are worked out, and only if then, will I consider repurchasing the TF201.
It appears from this forum that Asus is already shipping the 3rd revision of this product and still has issues. My wife ordered mine for Christmas and it didn't arrive until after the new year. I couldn't wait to receive it and was frustrated that others were receiving theirs while I was still waiting. When I finally received it, I thought I lucked out receiving the 2nd HW revision, however I was disappionted with wifi performance and the browser kept locking up. I tried contacting Asus support but could not get a response. How Asus handled the GPS issue by repackaging the product without GPS support gave me concern that they would handle other issues in a similar manner, such as low wifi performance. I ended up returning the TF201 while I still could as that path was easier than trying to escalate my issues at Asus and potentially never have my issues fixed.
Even with these problems, I am continuing to monitor this board in hopes that the situation improves, Asus fixes the issues, and puts in a support system. Currently all support seems to be handled by one marketing manager who is making posts on this board. If the TF201 issues can be resovled, the product has the potential of being a great tablet. Sooner or later I will either repurchase the TF201 or purchase something else that comes along.
I hope this was helpful.
Good Luck
I am on the same boat as you guys, been monitoring this forum for several months and just waiting for the right time to get the Prime, i wont be staying in the US long enought to get the T700 nor the Lenovo/Acer tablet unless they will start selling in early March..
As far as I know there is no other tablet that has the nice matching dock like this(other than the original transformer).
I would buy one when you can find it at a local Best Buy or somewhere with a similar return policy. Try it out for a day and return it if you don't like it. I promise if you get one without problems you will love it.
I use my dock maybe 10% of the time and usually it's just as a portable battery charger. I thought I would use it all the time but have found I enjoy sitting on the couch with the tablet alone in a nice case. I am glad I got the dock but the more I use the tablet the more I realize I would probably still be happy without it. I had to buy 4 Primes to get a good one, they all had screen issues (not screen bleed but other issues). So the fact I don't use the dock too much will probably influence my next tablet purchase....it most likely won't be an ASUS. I have had good luck with Samsung and HTC phones so I will look there first. Having said that, it is the best tablet available right now if you get a good one.
Yep. . . follow the thread on the GPS Contact issues. This POGO connector issue is, imho, a design problem that is going to make it possible/likely that GPS and WIFI will be troublesome. These connectors make it easy for movement, corrosion, etc. to create new problems at random times.
I sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 so I could purchase the TP but about to return it for the following reasons:
1. Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth issues. A quick search will tell you all you need about this.
2. Screen issues - I have backlight bleeding and several stuck pixels. Doesn't seem uncommon for this device and didn't experience this at all on my GTab. Also, I prefer the more vibrant screen on the GTab.
3. Only one speaker. This is a usability issue for me where you have to adjust your grip on the tab in order to not affect the sound level/quality.
For me, these combined are deal breakers. If none of these bother you, then I'd say buy it because aside from the issues I mentioned, its a well constructed tablet that has amazing performance (Tegra3 and ICS are killer) and has all the inputs you'll need.
I'll drop in and say.. go for it. I haven't had any huge issues with my [CG] Prime. I suppose I got lucky with the all the quality control issues (it arrived about a week ago [via Amazon], I'd guess my unit is byond the first batch and Asus has started to address the issues). I just got my [CG] dock yesterday [via TigerDirect], and I love having both.

Ok, here I go....
1. Wifi/GPS/BT issues: Wifi/BT is currently being fixed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443868
Gary key(Asus Rep) informed us that there are 2 different solutions being worked on and would be early Feb for a fix. Most likely through firmware update. GPS works! Searching will lead you to of course more negetive posts then positives. People seek answers to there issues! So finding posts like... I love my Prime woo hoo! is harder to come by because people don't generally posts Positive things.
2. Screen issues: All tablets are victums to this. It's not just the Prime. I had a SGT 10.1 that I returned for the Prime. It had Screen bleeding and stuck pixels!
3. Only one Speaker: wrong there is 2 speakers and they are stereo speakers. Actually much louder and more vibrent then the origenal Transformer.
If you take the time to read and search for answers. You will often find that it isn't that big of an issue. More people are satisfied with their Primes. Go ahead and return your prime. I'm sure you'll regreat it down the line. If not good for you.

I'm well informed on this tablet and its issues and not really concerned whether or not others are satisfied with their device. My decision is based on how well the device works for me.
RE: #1 - I've been following that thread and not willing to gamble my $500 on an expected fix 'sometime in February'. No guarantee it will come in that timeframe, nor that it will fix it when it does come.
RE: #2 - I've read many more reports of screen issues on the TP than GT. Also, while I like the screen on the TP, I feel the GT has a better one.
RE: #3 - The TP has stereo speakers but only projects the audio from one side of the tablet. Put your hand in the wrong spot and you will find the audio quality degraded. Not the best design choice.
To the OP...as I've said before, this is a nice tablet. These issues were dealbreakers for me, but you need to decide for yourself.
@jjdevega - Enjoy your tablet and good luck with the Wifi.
Thanks a lot for all the replies. Here is what I can conclude.
1. Only the transformer and transformer prime have the keyboard dock and battery. No other tablet does this.
2. Issues are mixed. Some got lucky, some got the bad one.
Purchase dates from people would be helpful to track if issues are resolved in later units. If so, at what point in time.

Thanks. Looks like you have the latest revision and things seem to be fixed.
I bought mine few days ago and I feel like I have one of the newer revisions, I have no issues with anything. If you buy one now that you are sure of is unopened and new stock you will prolly be fine.
I just received my first TP today, and I should be getting my second sometime next week. No issues at all with my current one. I'm actually trading my 16GB Tab 10.1 and some cash for a second Prime to try Roms and whatnot once they start showing up.

Yep, well put, that's how it works best.
Well, I received mine yesterday from Best Buy online. My order was kind of odd. Two weeks ago on Friday, I woke up and hit the website again to look at availability. It was sold out the night before, but to my surprise it was available. I immediately placed the order, and right afterward it went back to "out of stock".
Needless to say, I was pretty skeptical and kept checking order status. It stuck at "in process through the weekend (understandable) but remained this way through to the middle of the week. I gave up and called Best Buy to cancel. The woman put me on hold for a minute after "confirming" that the reason it was stuck on in-process was because they were most likely not available. When she came back, she said the order was cancelled...and I moved on.
Two days later, I checked my bank balance and saw that I was CHARGED for the Prime! I immediately logged into my BB account and saw that it was apparently shipped, UPS tracking and all. I was a little ticked initially that they apparently did NOT cancel my order, but decided to roll with it and figured if it arrived in anything but mint condition that it was going back to a local BB right away.
So, it arrived yesterday while I was at work. It was a LONG day at work needless to say, and when I finally got home I actually did not open it for a few hours. I was concerned about all of the negativity surrounding it in the various forums. All of the odd issues and some really scary stories. After a beer or two later, I said the hell with it and decided to open the box.
Immediately upon powering the device on, I scoured the screen with my eyes for dead pixels, dust, screen bleed..what have you. Absolutely NOTHING wrong with the screen...whew! Booted in to Honeycomb and it immediately found my network (full bars) as well as a few neighbors networks...and even some I have not seen before on my other devices! Ok, wifi is not an issue. Applied the update to ICS next. Downloaded, rebooted, Android logo with spinning gears....all done.
Went back in and checked everything out. Good deal! Everything is smooth and gorgeous. Installed a few apps, games and emulators...everything worked as expected. Played Pacmania (in Mame) and off to bed.
Came home tonight from work and continued with this baby. Tested the mini HDMI on my TV, worked perfectly. Played some music and heard it out of my surround system. HDMI working perfectly. Check that off the list.
Next, I tested the microSDHC. Popped a Kingston 32GB card in that had some previous apps and stuff from my old Asus Slider. Worked as expected.
Set up FTP access in ES FIle Explorer to my Serv-U FTP and streamed a movie (John Wayne, The Quiet Man) as well as some MP3's. Worked smooth as butter.
As for GPS, yes, I had a slight issue. I had signal for a short time in the house, and then it went out. However, this is more than normal. My Garmin gets NO signal in the house no matter what! I will have to take it out soon and test, but I have the feeling that GPS will lock on for me as well.
My point is that if you find one of these, I recommend to buy it and try it YOURSELF. You cannot go by issues in the forums. Remember, the majority of the time when people have NO issues, they do not post and say "everything is ok!". You usually only see posts when people do have these issues, and posts should not sway you from one of the greatest tablets ever created. I freakin' love this thing!
BTW, I forgot to add that mine is a C1 serial number based model. Perhaps issues were vastly fixed with this one.
Posts like yours are exactly why I'm returning my second Prime and trying a third time. My first two must have been defective!!!
Hopefully third times a charm... if I can find one.

Forgot to ask... how is your BT working with your WiFi?
I liked my prime for the first two days as well, until the glaring problems started to happen.
Test out your prime from 20-30 feet away from your router and see if your wifi speeds drop DRAMATICALLY. Mine did. From my bedroom which is no more than 25 feet from the router, my wifi speeds went from 20 mbps to less than 2.
Next, try using your wifi while also using a bluetooth device like headphones or a mouse. Odds are, your wifi speeds will drop so low that the internet is unusable while bluetooth is on.
If GPS was just the issue, I don't think many people would have a problem. However, when the wifi isn't sufficient enough to work from every area in my house, especially on a device that depends on its wifi connection, then there is definitely a problem. My router isn't cheap, and my house isn't large. None of my other devices have this issue, and from all the other people reporting the weak wifi, I'd say its more of a design flaw than a software problem.
That, to Asus has some seriously defective components or a large quality issue with their components. Either way, with as many people having issues with the prime as there are, I don't see it lasting long on the marketplace. I wouldn't try my luck again simple because I don't see Asus supporting a product with this many problems for much longer.
I would be willing to bet, they phase out product sales completely as soon as they can possibly get the redesigned units out. I know that the Staples website has removed the Prime from their search function and you can only find the item via a search for staples asus transformer prime. Also, my local 2 staples stores sent their primes back to the warehouse. They wouldn't say why, but they had stock and sent them back.

Well, many websites remove the device from the basic search when it is simply not available. I am not a Staples shopper, but more of a Microcenter guy. They do this all of the time on their site. If you order the last of something and then go back to try to find it the next day, it is purged from their search and unless you have the direct link you cannot find it!
As for Staples sending them back, if this is indeed true it may be for other reasons. The demand for the device is so high right now that Staples bigwigs may be re-assessing stock sent to stores and ordering them back to the warehouse for redist for online orders. This is quite common. I know as I work for a pretty large video card manufacturer (and SD, USB, SSD, Flash media) and these kinds of tactics are used constantly. If some Staples in timbucktoo ended up with 8 units that are going unsold while there is a demand elsewhere...well...the manager may get a return to distribution email from his DM.
I do not think at all that it is getting "phased out" in other words.
Sounds good man. I actually have 2, count them 2 perfect working Primes under one roof hahah. Me & my GF both have C1 serials numbers bought from Staples the last few days.
However i did originally return a BC i think to BB that wasnt working soo good. The lady there said they have been getting tons of returns and therfore stoped selling them. IN the store at least.
So yea it is possible to have a good working prime. I actually just upgraded mine to ICS from HC just so i could test both. So far so good. Out fo the box i upgraded my GF's to ICS right away. I did have the .13 update on the one i returned.
So far good wifi even away from the router unlike my original & no dropout with bluetooth on. It seems there is a ever so small screen bleed on the right hand bottom corner. Only if you use a all black screen using the screen bleed test. Otherwise you cant see it. Oddly enough this has been the case with all 3 of my Primes ive had, odd. But you cant even see it under normal use. Im sticking with mine lol.
Hey man I'm glad you're liking your Prime. I got mine a while ago and have had no issues, thankfully. Solid device, especially after the last update,. Since then it's been smooth sailing.
ICS Browser + made me a happy boy.
I just want to note that I'm not a fanboy, I don't care about Asus, just a happy customer. Bought my dad one and he seems happy.
I also had a customer (I work tech support) call in about a microSDHC issue (not the Prime, just a format issue) and he got to talking about his 64GB Prime. The guy had no issues with it and was using it out in the field with his job. He had more than enough good to say about it, which made me more excited about it prior to its arrival.
As I said before, there are MANY people out there with good fully functional Prime units...and I would venture to guess many more than people with defect units. You just wouldn't know as these people do not post "non-issues"
It is a damn great device and I am proud to own it. I will continue to run it through its trials over the next two weeks of course while I am inside of the return policy, but if all works as it is now (and has right out of the box) I see no reason for return. Time to just have FUN with the new incredible hardware!
PS: Not an ASUS fanboy either. My Prime sits happily on my desk right next to my Playbook...an underrated and very cool tablet as well

Here is your proof right here. Out of 195 prime owners that voted on xda, more than 75%(147) voted they like the Prime and keeping it.

Guys....just a quick question for all you lucky lucky Prime owners.....what is playback of MKV files like? Is it super smooth, both 720p and 1080p and do they all work or have you needed to re-encode them?
Cheers,
M

Super smooth. If you watch animies and have 10bit movies then it's a no go.

I like your highly scientific method of verifying that the "wifi is not an issue"
I am currently looking to buy a TPrime but obviously after reading all the issues I'm a little hesitant.
I have been reading through Gary Keys posts and wanted to know if anyone knew about any recent batches of TPrimes that have had the issues (wifi/BT/GPS/reboots) resolved.
I am in WA, Australia.
Should I be looking for a later batch model or should I just wait for the infinity? (I'm not too bothered about full HD screen though, I just want all the hardware working as it should...)
I have searched for this info but couldnt find an sufficient answer.
Thanks in advance.
Aside from maybe being more precisely assembled, nothing much has changed for quite some time with the TF201. Some are good, some are not. Sort of reminds me of Alpha Romeo cars. Great to look at and if you get a good one, its a keeper. I was lucky. I have a C1 that is a keeper. The latest firmware improved it. The GPS works. The Wi-fi is great. Minimal screen bleed. Stock browser infrequently crashes.

So you think I should be looking for a C1 model revision? Is there any indication of the model number on the box so I can check before I purchase?
Thanks for the advice mate!
There are C3s now in the market. There is a sticker in the box that says the serial number, just take a look at it
I picked a random one when i bought mine, C2 SN and it works perfectly, GPS is indeed a bit weaker than other devices but it works good.
All in all no issues and loving my device.
I just want now my .21 update!! (Not rolled out yet for Germany models )
Awesome
It would be great if Gary Key would throw some official thoughts on this. I PM'd him but I guess he must be busy at the moment...
So the later the C revision, the better...
Mixed results for me in the last couple days with C2s.
I got a C2 two nights ago that had a backlight problem at the lower left. It was unusually bright from the corner and diagonal up to the top center. That left side, probably 40% of the screen, was like that till I gave it to a coworker and the same area went dark. If I flexed it a little, it would flicker back and forth. Returned that one ASAP.
Drove 20 miles to the next nearest store with stock replacement. This second C2 is good from what I can see this evening.

Bougth one for my girlfriend week ago and in the serial number reads "C3". It came with ICS .15 firmware out of the box. Havent noticed any hardware flaws. After the latest update I uninstalled Flash, cleared all data from default Browser and installed flash back. I havent noticed any freezing since then when browsing internet.
Id say go ahead and get this awesome device.
Anymore thoughts on this?
Thanks guys
Like others have said, mine works as good as it will ever be, but not perfectly. I am now at terms with it haha.
If I had to do it again I would rebuy my prime. For me its just the OCD in me that wants EVERYTHING to work so GPS bothers me.
As far as screen bleed, I had a little and fixed it. Then it came back again, I probably opened my prime too many times hehe.

Has anyone else received one of the newer units?
I have read on amazon about a couple of people buying in the last 10 days and have no issues with wifi, gps or backlight.

I've got a c2 and everything seems to working beautifully granted i havent tried anything with gps as i never use it, it just eats battery as far as im concerned.
Just make sure you get one from a store with a good returns policy. I plan to buy another one, just to use till the Infinity comes out and then i'll return/sell it. I live in South Africa, so they're ridiculously overpriced here. Buying from the UK and could probably sell it for more here after using it a bit...
I'm in western Australia and there are a couple of stores that I should be able to return to. I just want to be as sure as I can about the later revisions being better than the earlier ones

Update from my previous post, my second C2 has no apparent flaws. I have yet to try BT with WiFi but that's not a priority for me. WiFi and GPS work fine. I have postponed updating to the latest firmware so I'll see if performance changes. Happy with this one
I agree with the suggestion to buy from a shop you can easily exchange or return it to if something is wrong. The only gotcha is actual stock. They're in short supply still. I had to drive out of my way about 50 miles round trip (understated in my previous post). The next one in stock was 180 mile round trip here in SoCal (to Victorville).

I've had mine for about 2 weeks and like you, I was hesitant because the junk you see posted on this forum but I'm glad I went ahead with it. I love my tfp! No problems with it so far. wifi works great, GPS worked well too when i tried it, but I doubt I'll use that much really.

Got one from Amazon last Friday and it was a C2 serial, I had hoped it would be C3!! Slight light bleed, GPS non existent and WiFi range not great at all. Never tested the BT and WiFi together but decided to return it today. I may go into PC World and buy one of them if they have a good returns policy when I get my refund from Amazon. The ones in my local PS World have a C3 serial number, at least the display model. Checked the GPS on it as well and did not work :-(
Cheers,
M
Really?
Well that scuppers the idea about c2/3 models then....

I got a C2 serial Prime in Brisbane, Australia last week. Wifi is perfect, bluetooth works great, but GPS is non-existant. I have applied all known GPS fixes and still zero sat signal.

Same deal with the one I got from Amazon in the UK last week :-( Have you applied the .21 update? Is the WiFI draining the battery quicker now??

im going to be buying the prime this early December and i want to know if anyone knows what serial numbers relate to latest batch?
I just got what I believe to be a brand new Prime via an RMA warranty repair. The one they sent me has a CA****** series S/N.
But are you planning to buy one of these new? They have been discontinued as I am sure you know. At this point, you can get an Infinity for maybe a few bucks more than a Prime, I would go that route if I was you. They are a better all around performer in every area from everything I have read.
My fairly new one starts out C30KAS
I was surprised at all the anger on these forums when I came here because I wasnt experiencing all the problems others were. I can tell you though that the wifi is definately still not perfect.

What kind of problems? speed or stability? My Desire HD phone is 65Mbps, i kinda expect more than that on the prime?

As much as i want the latest release I purchased Prime 2 hours ago
Infinity costs £599, Prime is £389 - no one should pay that much for a tablet, it has its own set of problems and limited stock. I worry if i go for it, it might turn up with a fault and then there will be no stock to exchange. I rather wait for another future release, faster CPU, usb 3.0 ports, 5Ghz wireless and etc...

Mine has performed well also. I had to send my original BC series Prime in for the green camera issue and got a brand new one back from Asus. The wifi works perfect in my house, and my router is downstairs on the other side of the house so I don't have the weak wifi issue others have complained about. I use it at home about 95% of the time.
But that being said, if I was buying a new or lightly used tablet, I would get the latest and greatest. I'm still considering selling this one and upgrading just because I like to do that LOL.
i got one now, all works fine apart from issue with light bleed and slightly wobbly screen, amazon sending new one on monday, dont know how many i have to go through to get good one but the hardware is very very nice.
Its C5....... serial!
